I want to go back!
I turned 15 in 1990 as well. The 90s gave us some of the greatest music across all genres. Great albums and phenomenal one hit wonders. You could of $5 in the gas tank, another $5 on a pint Seagram's gin, put $5 together with a friend get a dime bag of good weed, $3.21 for a value combo from the drive thru your choosing. The New World Order we were looking for when 2000 came in wound up being the New Woke Order.

Someone would bring a radio, others drinks or what not, and we'd spend all night just handing out, toss back brews, making out wit our girls and just having a great old time. I'm from Ohio but I moved to Hawaii in the 80s and SoCal in the 90s... Those were great times but having a family today beats those times by a mile. Though I can't surf big waves as often in Toledo

I feel a bit of sadness at times watching music videos of 1990's hit songs. That decade meant so much to me. Yes, every decade had its BS, but the 1990's for the most part was so awesome. The music, movies, TV shows, video games, sports moments, the fashion...I miss it all. The fact that those were my teen years make me love the 1990's even more. Songs like this were the soundtrack to the most carefree times of my life. I love my life now, but I'll never have as much fun as I did back then.
So true. I'm glad I experienced it. I was born in '80. The 90s were awesome time for a teenager. It seemed a freer friendlier time, people weren't so friggin negative and self-absorbed with a phone glued to their hand like they do now. I have a phone but rarely use it.
I hear it about every day in a local rock station in Pittsburgh, WDVE... It never gets old...This was always a favorite of mine! Although, I had to look up when it was released, and I was floored that it came out in March 1997, around this time of the month... I was going on 25... I thought it came out in early 2000...Shows how fast that time went! ❤

Emerson Hart wrote this song after a tense phone call with his mother. Hart was 21 years old and planning to get married (not what his mother had in mind...). She tried to talk him out of it, but you can't argue with love. Emerson told her "If you could only see the way she loves me, then maybe you would understand", and then he hung up. With his fire sparked, Hart started writing the song, and it came very quickly, with him taking aim at his mother's "manipulations" and "lies" during the strident verses, then slowing it down to present his side of the story in the chorus. The song was very cathartic and helped him work out his feelings, but in the end his mother was right: it didn't work out with the girl and they never got married.
And his mother has a popular RUclips channel giving beauty and other advice to older women. The must have made up, she lived in a cottage in back of his mansion and always talks about her rock star son.

I really wish I could’ve :( I wasn’t around then but I still listen to the music and it’s awesome. The things people wore were great too-mainly the converse all stars (sometimes), jeans, t-shirts, and hats, etc..
I sometimes think its just nostalgia and maybe it wasnt that great, but the longer i dwell on it, the mid 90's to the first few years of the 00's were really a fantastic time.
What I miss most about the 90s was the variety of music on mainstream radio. In the Top 40 you had pop, rock, dance, hip-hop, country etc. and it felt like great variety. Today's mainstream radio seems to play very samey-sounding music, and you now have to dig deeper to find songs you really enjoy. Maybe I'm just getting old, haha.
I was born in 82' my little brother and I had a riot. Cruising around on our Huffy bikes listening to our Walkmans. The late 80s and 90s were an awesome time to be a kid, freedom. I'm 40 now and have 5 kids of my own. It's a different time and I'm not thrilled about the direction we are headed.

My Army example is if you get a single MRE (prepacked meal) but as you hungrily get it unpacked and ready to prep & chow down, say you drop the Beef Pattie main course out of its container, onto the sand/dirt/grit below? My USMC story: accidentally putting the MRE salt packet in your cold instant MRE coffee. And drinking it anyway because it's coffee and you won't get anything else. Things are as good (or as bad) as you make them. It's a choice.
I consider myself very fortunate to have been born in 1959. I was old enough to truly enjoy the incredible music of the 70's, managed a record store in the early to mid 80's, another decade that produced some great music and then recognized the talented bands of both the Grunge and Alternative genres of the 90's. I'm 54, I'd probably be going through a mid life crisis right now if not for music that keeps me sane. I remember hearing this song in the mid 90's, when people knew how to relate to each other w/o cell phones and facebook. This is a great one I recall, to go along with Fuel "Hemmorhage" and Offspring "Gone away".

I still remember the morning, don't remember the exact day but it was December of '97, waking up miserable and heading to work at 3:30AM, getting out to my car and hearing this song on the radio and just being reminded that life was not so bad. The 90s were a perfect combination of chaos and peace. Life was so simple and complex. That era was a complete example of yin and yang. Miss it and my kids will never know it... such is a shame
Well I am older so I grew up with the Beatles, Eric Clapton, Led Zep, Jethro Tull and saw hundreds if not a thousand shows. Oh and the Rolling Stones. Lots of bands you may not know of. Every era has had and will continue to have great and crappy music too. I saw these guys two days in a row when they toured with one of my fave bands STIR. Check them out. Happy Independence Day!

I play music as well and grew up listening to bands from the 50s - 90s . I definitely think older music is more of an art or better quality, as well as movies that were made in the 80s and before. The technology wasn't there that we have now so the artist or movie director had to really be creative back then . With that being said , I think they did an amazing job with what they had to work with. Now anyone can make a tune and make up a few lines , put it on RUclips and become famous.

I was 12. The 90s were a special time to be that age. One foot I genx and one in the bext generation/era with early advent of the internet but before a post 9/11 world and social media/smartphones.

I'm going to be 30 in October, I grew up listening to this music & honestly, all I could wish for the younger generation is to open their eyes. Your parents love you, your family loves you. It might not be apparent at times, but in the end, it doesn't matter. All that matters is how you play the cards you're dealt. It was a nightmare of shit music and rap. During that time I would prefer listening to some one scratching their nails on a blackboard. However in the mid eighties I found The Animals The Who Rolling Stones etc etc. I quit radio and almost missed the 90's. I called grunge angry white boy music.

I lost my adored son, Kyle on January 21,2018...at the very young age of 20, it’s completely broken me & made time stand still...me & Kyle’s father we’re so in love when this song was a radio hit...I remember we’d always talk about Kyle when we got a night out, but several instances I recall driving home to Kyle in my Nissan 240sx(remember those;)this song was playing & I was driving and singing it to my exhusband (& Kyle, everything was for him)& our love was so huge, you could feel the energy pull our souls into one, we had our ups and downs for many years...we had good & we had horrible but nothing have we ever had like losing Kyle, he made us family, this song can mean so many things to so many people, so many stories of love...music is powerful...love prevails. God Bless Everyone...be happy and thankful for what you have, people die, it happens, death does not discriminate! One of the amazing things that has come from his death is it his broadened my love for people which I always have loved people but it’s like I see him in every young man or woman and they are my adopted kids. OGkush2011 every generation will look back and nostalgically long for that magic of their youth to return. However the world was rapidly changing and information technology matured. Before people could steal whole catalogs of record companies with a few clicks they put a lot of resources into finding and producing stellar talent. The factors that produced certain media will not repeat and things are only fresh once. You can also argue for every positive that comes with time and change comes a negative. Its up to each of us to dwell on the positives to stay happy.

You know why ? Because the 80's was the best time to be alive. I was jus 8 years old in 1989 but i remember those last 4 years from 85 to 89 and that my friend is pure gold in my brain.
For me there certainly is a bittersweet flavor to the nineties and the music from that time. My life turned upside down and I became estranged from my wife and children.
One weekend in the early 2000's my friend of 20 years and I sang this song in harmony on the way home from a local pub. When the song was done we just sat in silence the rest of the way home. That was the last time I saw him alive. I didn't know in the 90's what the song would come to mean or how important it would be for me to listen to today.
Sorry mate. It was Live Forever for me and my mate. I left England two days later and in a week he was gone. We jammed to this one on our road trip to Scotland.

Ill never forget when i was home on leave, going through an incredibly difficult time. I popped in for a bite at a sports bar i was a regular at before i moved away. The bartender had to singlehandedly be the sweetest girl I think I ever met. She was just so happy to where I noticed in the corner her closing someone's tab out with the hugest grin on her face. Whatever was going on that day, she was in the best mood. And then this song came on, and she began humming along to the chorus. It's a moment i will remember for as long as i live. Thank you for making my whole Christmas, sweet girl!
I saw and heard these guys for the first time when my unit was deployed to Kosovo in 2000. Very awesome group! I still have a drumstick from the drummer.
This song is meant romantically, but it reminds me of my mom. She loves me so much, and she's the most important person in my life, and when I hear this song I think of her.
After hearing that the the lead singer ended up not marrying the girl this song is about; I am still glad he wrote it. The only part of the story that is different for me is that I ended up marrying the blue eyed girl who says she loves me. We’re still deeply passionate and in love, have three wonderful boys, and a blast being together most days. Our commitment to each other is for life, no matter who that makes uncomfortable or upset.
Take me back to the 90's when music reflected reality, and still understood what it meant to have a soul, instead of the glorification of narcissistic fantasy.

Emerson Hart wrote this song after a tense phone call with his mother. Hart was 21 years old and planning to get married (not what his mother had in mind...). She tried to talk him out of it, but you can't argue with love. Emerson told her "If you could only see the way she loves me, then maybe you would understand", and then he hung up. With his fire sparked, Hart started writing the song, and it came very quickly, with him taking aim at his mother's "manipulations" and "lies" during the strident verses, then slowing it down to present his side of the story in the chorus. The song was very cathartic and helped him work out his feelings, but in the end his mother was right: it didn't work out with the girl and they never got married.
And his mother has a popular RUclips channel giving beauty and other advice to older women. The must have made up, she lived in a cottage in back of his mansion and always talks about her rock star son.

I really wish I could’ve :( I wasn’t around then but I still listen to the music and it’s awesome. The things people wore were great too-mainly the converse all stars (sometimes), jeans, t-shirts, and hats, etc..

I sometimes think its just nostalgia and maybe it wasnt that great, but the longer i dwell on it, the mid 90's to the first few years of the 00's were really a fantastic time.
80's and 90's were great times. So many great memories that are linked to the amazing music that my brother and I got to experience.
What I miss most about the 90s was the variety of music on mainstream radio. In the Top 40 you had pop, rock, dance, hip-hop, country etc. and it felt like great variety. Today's mainstream radio seems to play very samey-sounding music, and you now have to dig deeper to find songs you really enjoy. Maybe I'm just getting old, haha.

I was born in 82' my little brother and I had a riot. Cruising around on our Huffy bikes listening to our Walkmans. The late 80s and 90s were an awesome time to be a kid, freedom. I'm 40 now and have 5 kids of my own. It's a different time and I'm not thrilled about the direction we are headed.

I was old enough to truly enjoy the incredible music of the 70's, managed a record store in the early to mid 80's, another decade that produced some great music and then recognized the talented bands of both the Grunge and Alternative genres of the 90's. I'm 54, I'd probably be going through a mid life crisis right now if not for music that keeps me sane. I remember hearing this song in the mid 90's, when people knew how to relate to each other w/o cell phones and facebook. This is a great one I recall, to go along with Fuel "Hemmorhage" and Offspring "Gone away".

Well I am older so I grew up with the Beatles, Eric Clapton, Led Zep, Jethro Tull and saw hundreds if not a thousand shows. Oh and the Rolling Stones. Lots of bands you may not know of. Every era has had and will continue to have great and crappy music too. I saw these guys two days in a row when they toured with one of my fave bands STIR. Check them out. Happy Independence Day!

I play music as well and grew up listening to bands from the 50s - 90s . I definitely think older music is more of an art or better quality, as well as movies that were made in the 80s and before. The technology wasn't there that we have now so the artist or movie director had to really be creative back then . With that being said , I think they did an amazing job with what they had to work with. Now anyone can make a tune and make up a few lines , put it on RUclips and become famous.

It was a nightmare of shit music and rap. During that time I would prefer listening to some one scratching their nails on a blackboard.

He was my rock always in my corner. It still hurts and I do still have moment's of bailing my eyes out but it's weird feels like a good cry. Sometimes we hold so much in at once then we explode. I lost my adored son, Kyle on January 21,2018...at the very young age of 20, it’s completely broken me & made time stand still...me & Kyle’s father we’re so in love when this song was a radio hit...I remember we’d always talk about Kyle when we got a night out, but several instances I recall driving home to Kyle in my Nissan 240sx(remember those;)this song was playing & I was driving and singing it to my exhusband (& Kyle, everything was for him)& our love was so huge, you could feel the energy pull our souls into one, we had our ups and downs for many years...we had good & we had horrible but nothing have we ever had like losing Kyle, he made us family, this song can mean so many things to so many people, so many stories of love...music is powerful...love prevails.

OGkush2011 every generation will look back and nostalgically long for that magic of their youth to return. However the world was rapidly changing and information technology matured. Before people could steal whole catalogs of record companies with a few clicks they put a lot of resources into finding and producing stellar talent. The factors that produced certain media will not repeat and things are only fresh once.
You can also argue for every positive that comes with time and change comes a negative. Its up to each of us to dwell on the positives to stay happy.

You know why ? Because the 80's was the best time to be alive. I was jus 8 years old in 1989 but i remember those last 4 years from 85 to 89 and that my friend is pure gold in my brain.

For me there certainly is a bittersweet flavor to the nineties and the music from that time. My life turned upside down and I became estranged from my wife and children.

One weekend in the early 2000's my friend of 20 years and I sang this song in harmony on the way home from a local pub. When the song was done we just sat in silence the rest of the way home. That was the last time I saw him alive. I didn't know in the 90's what the song would come to mean or how important it would be for me to listen to today.
Sorry mate. It was Live Forever for me and my mate. I left England two days later and in a week he was gone. We jammed to this one on our road trip to Scotland.

To say this song transcends generations is a serious understatement, one of the greatest songs of all time.
"they" created the generational put downs to make no unity possible. We are all human alive at the same time....let's get along....life is damn short.

Ill never forget when i was home on leave, going through an incredibly difficult time. I popped in for a bite at a sports bar i was a regular at before i moved away. The bartender had to singlehandedly be the sweetest girl I think I ever met. She was just so happy to where I noticed in the corner her closing someone's tab out with the hugest grin on her face. Whatever was going on that day, she was in the best mood. And then this song came on, and she began humming along to the chorus. It's a moment i will remember for as long as i live. Thank you for making my whole Christmas, sweet girl!
I saw and heard these guys for the first time when my unit was deployed to Kosovo in 2000. Very awesome group! I still have a drumstick from the drummer.

After hearing that the the lead singer ended up not marrying the girl this song is about; I am still glad he wrote it.
The only part of the story that is different for me is that I ended up marrying the blue eyed girl who says she loves me. We’re still deeply passionate and in love, have three wonderful boys, and a blast being together most days. Our commitment to each other is for life, no matter who that makes uncomfortable or upset.
