Fun fact: The band confirmed the story of the music video. The man suffers from terrible agoraphobia and social anxiety. He's very lonely and every day he looks through his telescope to watch people interact and takes down notes on how to socialize. He tries going out several times but is too scared and ends up changing his mind. He then has a breakdown from the isolation. Eventually he has enough and at the end he musters up the courage to leave his roof and goes out to see the world and try to make himself happy
Another fact: John Rzeznik was terribly depressed by that time, so he wasn't able to write or compose anything. And this song was a relief.

I can't stop replaying this song, Iris has definitely taught me to love music again, it's been since I was 16 that I found a song and fell in love with it. Yes I'm still here in May 2034. I just turned 66yrs old but don't feel old listening to Rock n " Roll music that I grew up with in the 70's and 80's. I saw just about all the bands like Led Zeppelin, Robin Trower, Santana 3 times and many more. Back when tickets cost $15 for great seats up front. You could bring in your drinks and smoke back then . No hassles! But now listening to the Goo Goo Dolls, they are fantastic! Incredible music and love this song 🎵 ❤ and Here is Gone is a good one too.

Reading through the comments, listening to this song and remembering the late 90s and early 2000s has made me realize that we are the first generation to grow old together in real time. Though millions of us have never met, from city to the boondocks, somehow we all share similar experiences and nostalgia. These days it's a pure truth in musical format, there's a bottomless depth of wisdom in those words, along with the sweetest pain. Undoubtedly one of the greatest songs ever written.

When I turned 17, i had to stay at my grandpa's house and this song was being played on the radio, so my grandma, who doesn't speak any English at all (I'm Mexican), let alone understand this music, turned up the volume for me to listen. 😭THANK YOU, this is honestly something I needed to hear, I'm always contemplating life every day. Do you ever wake up ever thinking why am here?what's my purpose ? literally me every day only because we're never promised tomorrow 😔, so I'm honestly thankful and blessed to still have a secure mindset of where I am with my life. I don't want to come across as depressed but it's evidently obvious .Music is my coping mechanism . Sorry no one ever asked me how I am so yeah 😥

Cuz it is the point of the song. You can interpret in many ways. I would assume, when all is so great you start to sabotage yourself. because it is so unreal and you start to think that you don't deserve it. I mean the song is in some away about to broke this "all great" time and come to the truth and hope it will last.
