lost myself in music growing up in a troubled home. This is one of the songs that took me away from it all. I will always be grateful to this band and so many others, Growing up with 90s music was an absolute blessing!!!!!
We had it soo good from the 90's. If I knew it was all down hill from there I would of savored the years just a bit more. Waco, O.J. Simpson, L.A.Riots, Heaven's Gates lol etc

This was one of my favorite songs when I was 18. I lived it out. Over the years I lost myself to someone else completely. Became someone I didn't want to be. Now, listening to it tonight 18 years later, and 9 of being on my own, I realize the words finally ring true again. The words reverberate through every fiber. Thank you Incubus.
If you see this, search "Blue stones - Magic" These guys are from Windsor Detroit border and blowing up. They have the 90s sound you're looking for especially the Magic track. Also worth mentioning: "Cleopatrick" band.
For me, it was the '90s which was the last great decade of music, but the '00s was the decade that music stopped evolving. Everything since then just sounds the same. Every decade had its style, everything was changing year after year, for example, the early '90s were so much different than the late '80s, but now, whether something came out in 2010 or 2024, it's almost the same. Even some new bands, mostly alternative, which make good music, they just rehash the '00s, if not the '90s.
@@Dreamcatcher9000early 2000s had some great music different but great .. you can listen today and brings such a nostalgic feeling … those years you mentioned were a completely different sound alternative rock bands didn’t make it 💔

I respect the generations before as well because I Also occasionally listen to music from the 60s 70s and 80s thanks to my mom
@@Soamazinq3 So which do you prefer mostly, the '90s or '00s? I have more fond (music) memories from the '80s, when I was a kid, so maybe you have more fond from the '90s when you were a kid, compared to the '00s; Objectively speaking though, regardless of ages and generations, the '90s were SO much better than the '00s. And what do you like mostly from the '80s?
+kirwi kirwinson Music in general can be an incredible source of inspiration. Music is Art. It holds so many complex emotions and themes, and much like a painting, can be interpreted by the one enjoying it. From this particular song, I noticed themes of overcoming weakness or perhaps addiction if the wine metaphor is to be taken literally, growing as a person, and most importantly seizing control of one's future. That's some pretty powerful stuff, and the raw emotion people draw from music makes an excellent reservoir to tap into when working to produce the necessary creative "building blocks" that we artists need to work with. As an aspiring writer, I can tell you right now that I cannot write without music. It gets my brain moving and into a mode that identifies words and their meanings, and it helps me construct metaphors easier. When I need ideas, I listen to very powerful music that evokes strong and intense emotions. When I need to write about something and describe it, I listen to Hip-Hop/Rap of the complex lyrical variety because hearing complex rhymes and language skills helps me to construct better sentences. I know a lot of people dismiss Rap as mere audio pollution, and don't get me wrong a lot of it is, I'm a serious Rap snob, but don't underestimate the power of the mind and the complex rhymes it can create. Story-Telling Rap is my favorite kind. I love hearing someone paint a picture in my mind with words. The moody and/or eclectic beats, the artist's raw emotive speech, the complex language skills uses to produce mesmerizing stories... there are some truly talented individuals out there. I couldn't imagine what my writing would be like had I never discovered such a powerful source of inspiration. So don't limit yourself or others to a particular type or style of music when immersing yourself in the creation of art. People seek inspiration from so many different sources; music, their lives, other forms of art entirely, all of it valid and immensely powerful.
Man does this bring back memories. Growing up my mom played this song nearly every Saturday morning. She introduced me into 90s alt rock and I've been a fan ever since. Rest in peace mom ♥
This song was my "thinking" song as a teenager. I would sing it multiple times a day cuz for some reason it was only thing that made me feel like me being me would be, okay. Idk what the feeling was that this song gave your mom that made her love to sing it repeatedly but I'm sure that she was moved in a way that made her soul happy. And she gave u this song that you will never forget , so u can always remember.
What a sweet memory! I can’t imagine a better lullaby for your mom to have sent you forth into the world with. You are a lucky girl. And your mom certainly knows that.
As a 30 something who found this band in the midst of teenage anxiety & depression, while also feeling like I didn't fit in, I am still so greatful for their music.❤ 23 years later, and the songs still take me back. Their music was such a comfort, especially growing up in a small minded rural town in Ohio.. I'm so glad new people are finding their music, it truly is timeless. ☮️✌🏼💗
It's my motivation to go on after losing so many loved ones and battling alcoholism. Just woke up and realized i gotta sober up to stick around and make more memories and be a better friend etc ❤. Much love look after yourself! You've got this!

I feel so lucky to have been a child in the 90’s and a teen in the early 2000’s. It was just the perfect time to grow up. Now I’m a disillusioned middle aged man feeling like my best days are behind me and wishing desperately that I could go back and do it all over again. Enjoy your youth.
Hey Bro! I'm close to that age, 45. I feel lucky because, even if later in my life, I learned a little bit about showing love to others, sometimes for nothing in exchange (not everyone smiles back, not everyone is capable of being a good friend). There is a lot of bad out there, but you can be part of that little good that does exist. What you did before defines what you are, but also what you're going to do from now on. I believe in God, so I am also confident that he'll reward our efforts to do good.
It all depends on you! That you are now middle aged doesn't mean you can't have fun anymore. Go out and celebrate life doing the things you always enjoyed! That is what we are here for❤ Celebrate life, love and help others, spend time with the people that make you happy❤

First heard of this song in highschool. I just turned 30 and i appreciate this song more than ever. With all the big decisions, responsibilities, risks, commitments etc, there really is a fear of uncertainty. Fear gets me stuck sometimes and this song snaps me out of it. When this song plays, i like imagining myself marching on to "adulthood", braving whatever comes, with a beer in hand.
This song still gives me the feeling I CAN conquer all the loss and trauma. "But lately I'm beginning to find that I should be the one behind the wheel."
What I find hilarious about all the people who post negative comments about Bands or other entertainers on RUclips is that they take the time out from their "So called" busy days and important lives to come online searching through numerous video's of artist they say they don't like for all the comments where others post what they find good about them and dump their nasty comments and outrage out as if other's are not entitled to their own personal opinions about what they see as talent and great songs to listen to, we are all entitled to our own opinions just as they are. Why should anyone fear expressing their opinions because the internet is filled with bored and brazen bullies? It just show's the mentality of someone who hasn't grown up, or doesn't have their shit together enough to show respect. Ignore the A**hole's, it pisses them off more to see that it does you what their opinions are... Remember why you're here, to enjoy the music, not for the entertainment of Bored Bullies... The early 00's was just about as great as the 70's-90's we almost could've kept going cause the mid 00's wasn't terrible either really, but AFTER THAT was when everything took a TOTAL Left and music started to become feeble and lifeless and all about the CLUBS & PARTIES!!! Lord only knows how much I miss those days!!!

To the Classicals such as Beethoven, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky!!!!! And of this generation Hanson, Duncan Sheik, Seether, Fuel, Evanescence, Hoizer, FKA Twiggs, Eric Benet, Carl Thomas, India Arie, Glenn Lewis, Erykah Badu, Van Hunt, D' angelo, Angus & Julie Stone, and of course Incubus!!! Now tell me, what was that you said that I don't know "nothing" about music again???
This song is so profound. I loved it when it was released in 1999. Now 23 years on, I wonder if we have learned anything about letting our fears and addictions control us?
Rebecca C I feel you, went through the same, this was my jam when I was a teenager. Still is 10 years later. Love yourself, love life, live without regret!
A.I I stopped because I learnt how to live in the moment and take it one day at a time. I try to see the good in everyday and after a while you realize life really is worth living. I didn't do it alone tho... medication settled my mind... my counselor got to the root of my problems and my family and friends carried me through. I still struggle with myself but I have come so far. things get better... we grow and look back at our old self and can feel proud for being strong enough to get through all the shit we were dealt. Hope that answers your question and helps anyone who reads it.

lost myself in music growing up in a troubled home. This is one of the songs that took me away from it all. I will always be grateful to this band and so many others, Growing up with 90s music was an absolute blessing!!!!!
You and me both
That’s fucking rad! The healing power of music is an extraordinarily profound gift.
We had it soo good from the 90's. If I knew it was all down hill from there I would of savored the years just a bit more. Waco, O.J. Simpson, L.A.Riots, Heaven's Gates lol etc
This was my older brothers favorite band. He died two days ago and still don’t know how to feel. It’s been really weird. But I’m still gonna listen to incubus for those good memories of him

I'm 14 and I've already lived a hell of a life. Incubus, RHCP, and sublime get me through it all. Spread love and be yourself. Music heals.
Life is a struggle but alas we keep moving forward

There's just something about the combination of turntables and acoustic guitars that works so well! Wish there were more songs like this.
Seen them live here in Toronto. The turntableist is a gem
There will be my friend. You just manifested it
If you see this, search "Blue stones - Magic"

They have the 90s sound you're looking for especially the Magic track.
Also worth mentioning: "Cleopatrick" band.
Sort of like blindspot phlex. My country's band ❤
@@NelsonMandela1999 Thanks for the recommendation. It's exactly what I was looking for!
been listening to this tune for 15 years and it never gets old. Incubus = musical genius.
This song and album were so good. Incubus and Linkin Park defined the early 2000s, the last great decade of music
@@Dreamcatcher9000early 2000s had some great music different but great .. you can listen today and brings such a nostalgic feeling … those years you mentioned were a completely different sound alternative rock bands didn’t make it 💔
@@Soamazinq3 Nostalgia depends on age, of course. I was born in 1979, so I was a kid in the '80s and a teenager in the '90s, so, I feel more nostalgic about those decades. Weill, I even feel nostalgic for the '70s and '60s, which I didn't live! :p I have some nostalgia for the early '00s, but they don't make me feel this "warmth" I feel for the previous decades.
What year were you born?
@@Dreamcatcher9000 understood I get it .. I was born in 91 so I was a kid in the 90s but still remember everything about the 90s from music to movies it was a great decade I was a teenager in the 2000s era then an adult so really all these decades mean something to me .. I respect the generations before as well because I Also occasionally listen to music from the 60s 70s and 80s thanks to my mom
@@Soamazinq3 So which do you prefer mostly, the '90s or '00s? I have more fond (music) memories from the '80s, when I was a kid, so maybe you have more fond from the '90s when you were a kid, compared to the '00s;
Objectively speaking though, regardless of ages and generations, the '90s were SO much better than the '00s.
And what do you like mostly from the '80s?
this song never gets old.
We would listen to this in high school art class, when this song was still a hit. Helped with the inspiration.
Early 2000's man, Good memories.
it was during 2000-2001, so very close to that year when i was listening to it.
this is one if my go to songs when I'm hitting up some new art work! just did some again today with this song on ✌👌🎨
+kirwi kirwinson incubus is avant garde enough my friend
People seek inspiration from so many different sources; music, their lives, other forms of art entirely, all of it valid and immensely powerful.
i have no memeries from 2000 just from 2002

As a 30 something who found this band in the midst of teenage anxiety & depression, while also feeling like I didn't fit in, I am still so greatful for their music.❤
23 years later, and the songs still take me back. Their music was such a comfort, especially growing up in a small minded rural town in Ohio..

"When I drive myself my life is found".. such a profound lyric
This song reminds me of my childhood that's now gone. I would play this over and over and sing and dance in my room. After we moved countries I've struggled to stay happy since, but this songs at least brings me happiness (and a weird sadness) for 3 minutes and 53 seconds. Forever gonna be one of my favourites.
I have a friend who is probably going through the same and she's the reason I know if this song. Makes me feel worthless for not being able to help.

Awwww Same I’m with you bro or girl🥺🥰
I was 7 when this song came out and every time I hear it I get sad because I miss how innocent and free my childhood was. Before stress, anxiety, and depression. This song is a light for me in the darkness. It reminds me of a time long past but a time of happiness that I can still remember.
Lyrics
Sometimes, I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can't help but ask myself how much I'll let the fear
Take the wheel and steer
It's driven me before
And it seems to have a vague, haunting mass appeal
But lately I am beginning to find
That I should be the one behind the wheel
Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes
Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there, I'll be there
So if I decide to waiver my chance
To be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine
And hold my own and drive?
It's driven me before
And it seems to be the way that everyone else gets around
But lately I am beginning to find
That when I drive myself my light is found
So whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes
Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there, I'll be there
Would you choose water over wine
Hold the wheel and drive?
Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes
Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there, I'll be there

believe me, incubus isn't underrated
only one? you clearly know nothing young one
i don´t have to, you´re the one who knows nothing. google it, check their full discography, watch morning view sessions video, you won´t regret it. you´ll also find out they have millions of fans and followers
thenightfox Anna Molly, Are you in, Pardon me, Dig, Stellar...some bands are a one hit Wonder like New Radicals, crash test dummies, incubus is way beyond that definition....perhaps you don't like the style and that s ok, but that s you
Wish you were here is another great song
I'm 36! I agree Bud!
hey,a tleast you had some best days, not everyone is as fortunate as that

Namaste and Have a great day... ;D

I was 12 when this came out. Brings back a lot of memories... The most specific one is watching mtv and vh1 in the mornings before leaving for school. I was the last one to leave my house so I would get ready and when everyone else was gone I'd turn on the tv and watch videos until it was time to walk to school. I remember seeing this one quite a few times. Always liked it, it's a great song. Seems like that was just yesterday, hard to believe it's now 2016! Time sure does fly by fast.

+paintedbird I would have been 11 when this came out and you are right that time flies! :/
+paintedbird pity mtv & vh1 has changed so much...I miss seeing actual music videos! Not to mention the music was so much better in 90's and 00's!!!!!
Let me tell you something, Deadmau5 is great at making music and so as Knife Party and Pendelum, and maybe even Diplo, the only reason why you think that because you're a non-edm fan, besides Pink Floyd is better than Incubus.
Ortum Lynx Still, Knife Party are Pendelun is awesome, but then again, your opinion sounds like it's from a non-EDM fan, so your opinion isn't really anything special.
Tristan Escano Hell I'm 21 years old and even I don't know who they are and have absolutely no interest in listening to them quite honestly!!!
Eric Chapman You know nothing about music man, there are still great bands out there, you just need to find them. For example: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Royal Blood, Royal Teeth, Kaiser Chiefs and so on and so forth.

Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there, I'll be there
So, if I
Decide to waiver my
Chance to be one of
The hive
Will I choose water over wine
And hold my own and drive?
Aah ah ooo
It's driven me before and it seems to be the way
That everyone else gets around
But lately I'm beginning to find that when
I drive myself my light is found
Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there I'll be there
Would you choose water over wine?
Hold the wheel and drive
Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there I'll be there
Turutu turutu turututuru
No no no no no
Turutu turutu turututuru
No no no no no
open eyes yeah..
Anthem for all the smart ones that won't take the poison jab!

First part is for all the Covid people who have let fear take over. You no longer think rationally. Think for yourselve avoid the mass appeal of mass media who have there own agenda.
I was 7 when this came out and it was played constantly on the radio and TV. Even now this song still hits home and helps people when they hit rough times in their lives.
Same here
@@RubyRedRobotthose were great times
I don't think a lot of people give Brandon the credit he deserves for having such a kick ass voice
That’s a fact brother
Definitely a good voice. Even live he sounded pretty good
If you want a great voice.. 30 Seconds to Mars
Just watching this randomly after, gosh, years, and I thought the exact same thing!
Tell us then how much credit is enough
It's actually unique to me. You can pick him out of any song.
Incubus! Brandon, your lyrics are so enlightened.
this music helps me a lot through the time i couldn't find myself or im having some anxiety attack and couldn't trust anyone even myself , thank you to this masterpiece.

This song will forever hold a special place in my heart. It helped me tremendously during a very difficult time in my life. Truly a timeless piece of magic.
Must play with Mother Father of all creation our creators incarnate in earth in flesh!❤ Welcome home = joyrains
“No matter what I ask myself, if I let the fear take the wheel and steer… Would you choose water over wine? And the hold the wheel and drive?” These are words that can truly wake someone up and prevent them from living a life of regret and “what if’s”. 🙏
Born in '85, been listening to them since '01. Man those teenage years were something else.
🤜🤛
Man, the early 2000's was an experience I hope to never ever forget. So much happened musically and socially. What a time.
Definitely miss and love the times where music was real feelings and the artist didn't have to get dressed up could just sing their heart out with little effort on appearance or "the look" of it. Love this gem!
RUclips will always be a time capsule of great music
I need this song in my life right about now. Ive always been a fighter, but lately Ive been feeling overwhelmed. Keeping this dope jam in my rotation to remind me that whenever I fall? I ALWAYS get back up.😊

This was my older brothers favorite band. He died two days ago and still don’t know how to feel. It’s been really weird. But I’m still gonna listen to incubus for those good memories of him
Yeah it's miles away now lol. Happened quick.

This has got to one of, if not, the most visually appealing music videos I’ve ever seen

Memories. Black inner city kid that grew up on rap but I still tuned into other music like this back when MTV played music videos. I remember this. Almost forgot until I heard it in Home Depot.
So the same. Black girl from Compton listening as a young adult getting all the crazy looks. Years later, people reach out thanking me for expanding their collections
Classic Home Depot
as an 18 year old white guy, we are very happy to have you in the rock community. u can check out my Spotify "avery50322", where i have a playlist simply called "Rock" that i highly recommend
I Play this song everyday i drive to work...its in a playlist i play everyday, tattered up and driving always hits the spot.
I'll never forget this song. As I'm driving 200km west of Sydney, with my two very young children in my car, I look behind and they are both asleep. Just my two asleep kids and myself. Feeling a bit alone and very responsible at the same time.
Please don't text and drive. :c
Drinks and drives 120 miles per hour into an active school zone
More now than ever we need this type of music
LYRIC
Sometimes I feel the fear
Of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can't help but ask myself how much
I'll let the fear take the wheel and steer
It's driven me before
And it seems to have a vague
Haunting mass appeal
But lately I'm beginning to find that
I should be the one behind the wheel
Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes, yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there
I'll be there
So if I decide to waiver my chance
To be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine
And hold my own and drive?
It's driven me before
And it seems to be the way
That everyone else gets around
But lately I'm beginning to find that
When I drive myself my light is found
Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes, yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there
I'll be there
Would you choose water over wine
Hold the wheel and drive
Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes, yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there
I'll be there

one of the few songs left in this world where you can listen and actually b inspired to do more in life....
Such an underrated band. This song is so good and yet not even near this bands best work
What you think is they best work?
Ye, please do recommend?
It's their best song. Some of their songs are good but forgettable.
This group is so underrated. One of the best musical groups of all time.
I'm with ya. 101 mill+ views is still underrated talking Incubus :)
Millions sold
Like 2 or 3 top 1 at Billboard 200
So many hits
And underrated? I don't think so. I even read ppl saying they were a one hit wonder...
Malia Laguisa totally
You have definitely overrated them.
You gotta listen to more music
One of a few vocalists who sings great live as in the recording. Went to the concert in PH this year. So amazed hearing and seeing them perform live!
I used to fall asleep to this song as a little kid, my dad burned this song and a bunch of his other favorites onto a CD because I had a hard time sleeping without white noise. Hearing this takes me back to simply being a little girl tucked into bed. Major nostalgia trip.
same
He knew the words to this song would make you strong! Smart Daddy!
This is a beautiful comment, thanks for sharing.
Props to dear soul, both you and your father...sweet how subtle the ties that bind us all. Sweet and lovely...beyond all regard. An enviable state...be well in all you'll do.
I did too. I was in my teens.
