Omg, I'm loving it, everyone of their live concerts are awesome, only saw them once live and my boyfriend got up and played harp with Kim.
Yes... and Keith Ferguson effin' lays down the bass throughout. Badass.
That’s why I am here! The wife got me a book about Keith and I am going to start reading it tonight once someone gets it off the porch! (I am in a wheelchair now) But back in the day I got to see Keith with the Thunderbirds and later with the Tailgators. Great Bassist and so Cool! Miss those days! The Zoo bar in Lincoln Nebraska was a great Time.
A lot of people now don't see what other guitarists saw in Jimmie, because he plays very subtly now. But in his early days he played more of his toolkit, and you can see his actual technical skills are quite prodigious - he just doesn't enjoy flash, that's all. He likes playing old time 50s style.
That's what I've always loved about him!
Jimmie does not play one note too many. And that is how he likes it.
His solo albums have masterful playing.
He's my favorite guitar player. He reminds me of the old bands I was in at the vfw's with older guys that got that type of sound playing SGS.
Jimmy does more with less , back in the 1970s Jimmy tore it up, he was so cool , well the whole band was cool, love Mike Buck ,, Keith, and Kim , great band , I remember when Kim wore a turban, great look , first time I saw them they opened for Muddy Waters at the original Antone's, loved that band, those first 4 records were great
Ferguson Killin it. Miss those days. Fran Christina Jimmy Vaughn Kim Wilson. The T birds.
Just perfect....the classic line-up, absolutely fucking brilliant
Classic is with Mike Buck on drums. Check it out.
Mike Buck on drums was the classic line up but Fran is great too
@17:00 ain't NOBODY boogie like the T-BIRDS do! Kim spitting them facts!
immense Keith Ferguson on bass. R.I.P.
well i just have to tell you that this is awesome bcuz back then we didnt have great recording ability to get them on tape....I know them all, and I thank you FOR THESE MEMORIES REVISITED. In the 70's we never videoed nothin, bcuz we had only instamatic cameras. Just a little truth to tell you, I was a part of this crowd. I mean I knew Jimmie, Keith, Frannie and Kim personally and intimately!!! It was obsessively magical every day in those times. Times that have yet to repeat it themselves~ so glad to have been a part of the blues family in Austin from 1972 to now, but mostly from 72 to 79. Lynne AUSTIN, TEXAS ♪♪♪♪
Nothing like see them live with original people z Fran who did replace Mike .Keith is the best damn bass player who ever lived.Jimmie and Kim. Bass ass blues players.
I saw this'ultimate' line up in Sheffield UK in 1983.My favourite memory of that gig was a fan requesting 'Low Down Woman' Kim Wilson said ''you got it''..and blasted into that cool harmonca intro with JLV hallowed riffage not far behind.
Their first two albums we're especially great.
I was at that gig as well. Dancing on the table at Dingwalls!
@@somethinglikethismk So I didn’t dream it.I bought all the albums until Jimmy Vaughan left the band. Of course Kim Wilson remains a monstrous talent. When Keith Ferguson wasn’t their ( I heard he died) .. I missed his presence. On the albums Keith’s personality jumped off the cover. This is a great keep sake. I hope more footage of this line up surfaces.
Saw them many times in small clubs best bar band ever
Jimmie , what a master on the guitar!
Jimmie is kicking ass with a broken leg! Can't get any cooler than this!
What a sound that Stratocaster!!! 😍😍😍
There is no band hipper than the T-Birds, especially the first lineup. They ROCKED the house EVERYTIME! Their sound is devastating!
Just saw The Thunderbirds last night, Kim is the only original member and they were a seven piece band. They were good.
What a band. Wreaking of Texas blues mojo. It doesn't get any better than this.
Had this on VHS taped from Sky RTE channel many years ago. Never understood why Rockpalast never put this out DVD! But this is good post! Thanks.
Jimmy Vaughan......... not one note more than needed, not one note less than required... ALWAYS in the grove in the pocket and perfect.
Agreed 💯
Got to agree with others on here - this was the T Birds at their very best. Superb
Kim is One Of a Kind with a lot of Talent !!! A Great Band . I saw them just outside of New Orleans years ago . They were Very Nice . I still and will always play them and SRV .
So fuckin´fabulous - The real Fabulous Thunderbirds with Jimmie Lee and Keith Ferguson, what a awesome gang.
Big and little Walter would have been amazed by this display of youir love.
These guys were road warriors for sure .Got to see them play in the SF Bay area and the Cotati Cabaret .Drunk as hell and rocking . .
Cotati. Shared the stage with Little Charlie and the Nightcats. One in a million show...
I like The Fabulous Thunderbird Rock N Roll Blues Live N Loud. Kick up the Rockin Blues and play it loud till the cows come home. I like the Rockin Blues all day long to shake me.
I saw and experienced these Guys in Copenhagen ca 1979-1980 with Jimmie on the guitar... Seeing this i thougt: "These cats should have stayed in Europe". I can listen to this all day long, and Jimmies machinegun guitar pumps out the tempo like no other can. Well, maybe Wilco on a good day. Keith Ferguson on bass is pleasently all over the place , not missing anything at all. This is simply outstanding!
Simon GothFather Aaa
You're welcome my friend.I also have/had this on VHS and decided to digitalize and burn it to DVD. This recording made me add "Scratch My Back" to the setlist of one of my bands, and "Cherry Pink / Apple Blossom White" to my other band's setlist.
Rockpalast has put many of their concerts on DVD for sale and good quality. Sadly not this one,and neither KOLORS featuring Peter Greenbaum which I have put here on YT as well. I'd be the first to buy these two concerts.
Im the 500th Like on this?? Fucking shame on people....This is GOLD!!!
SENSATIONAL...legends on that stage..r u with me?
Jimmie playing like a boss, even with a broken foot the show must got on.
What a band! I love the T. Birds! Jimmie Vaughan is one of my favorite guitar player!
I Just wish I were there , I will still be listening to The Fabulous Thunderbirds in 2022 and Beyond .
T-Birds still rockin but the legendary line up is on this on video.
Fran Christina drums ( Mike Buck on two first records years1976-1980)
Keith Ferguson bass
Jimmy Vaughan gtrs
Kim Wilson voc, harp
Hey..its 2020..Thunderbirds..still listening....Phenomenal entertainment...band is terrific..
Fran and Kim and Jimmie - I hope you get something of the thrill the rest of uf us do seeing/hearing this. . . Thank you for the music.
And Keith!
Oh my God! This is THE Band!!! This is The S#*T!!! I had this on VHS tape a long time ago. The video was on the dark side, not very good quality. I've been hoping to find this again. Thank you so much for posting this!
I use to watch these guys at Rome Inn and Antone's back in the late 1970's great band
I was so mesmerized by Jimmie's guitar playing in this video I didn't even notice until halfway through that he has a cast on his left foot and was leaning against a stool to stay upright. I'm just exploring his old live stuff with the T Birds. I've had one of their studio CDs for a long time but it's amazing to see his guitar skills live on video. I had no idea he rocked like this. He sure mellowed out later, especially when he stopped using a pick. But it's plain to see in this early video and others how much he influenced his younger brother Stevie, down to the initial stickers on the guitar, the licks, and clothing. I think some of the way he and Stevie move similarly on stage is just down to being blood brothers.
Absolutely great, it couldn't be better...
Fabulous!
What a great,great band.Terrific to see this,thanks for sharing.
wish i'd seen these guys live. just dynamite. didn't realize JV was such a good guitarist. much appreciated for the upload.
Jimmie Lee is the bomb; little brother Stevie got it and some of us get it too.
I still remember the original concert when it was broadcasted. Recorded it on VHS but lost the tape. Excelent concert
saw this line-up in late '83...they tore it up
Thank you so very, very much for posting this. Keith. Best music I ever heard.
Great show! Thanks for posting! It's pretty hard to find this particular line up--Fran, Keith, Jimmy, and Kim--in a live clip.
I used to listen to them all the time. I miss those days. I NEED to get their music back NOW. Excellent
This is pure gold! Thank you!
This is great! The groove around 46:00 is killing!
Thunderbirds are Great..Awesome band..Jimmy Vaughan is sensational on that guitar..he owns it alright..it can actually talk..love it
R I P Keith love you man
Whiskey drinkin’ music! Love it.
nice blues realy love his harmonica and srv way of guitar!
+roodbaard51 Yes, SRV learnd a lot from his big brother Jimmy....
I think you meant' JLV style.
Thanks! I have known about them since they did the Don't Mess With Texas litter commercial.
Whooouuuuwww!!! What a famous wonderfull, great rockiin, groovin sound!!!
One word,,,,WOW !!!
Love, love, love
Great find here - nice early show! Thanks!!
The first time I saw them was at Cooter's on Richmond Ave in Houston, in 1978. I heard the gig was arranged by Billy F. Gibbons, and I had been told by older pickers that Jimmy V was legend from the Catacombs gig where the Chessmen played. Rob Winters went with me. During one song, the club lit up the disco lights and Mike Buck and Keith busted up laughing. Later Stevie played Fitzgeralds and Tbirds played Rockafellers.
yeah the TGI Friday's was on the east side of that same strip mall. I was there too, but Cooter's was more of a country joint than rock n roll like Cardi's on Westheimer!
Awesome concert!!!
Whew! Marked Deck at around 53:50! Some seriously FUNKY Texas blues by way of N'awlens.
Dammit! When Jimmie was on that shit was FOR REAL!!! No wonder Stevie looked up to him so much.
WHAT A BAND.
my bet this is the most & toughest blues harp heard In Germany, ever - Kim is not my all-time fave but this performance owuld be enough to draw someone in. amazing harp, first two tunes, Kim has got swing, funky phrsing, & can bear down almost indefinitely.
all in all this is perfect for the homeland of the harmonica.
German crowd would have heard Magic Dick, Sugar Bllue & some Muddy bands, maybe George Smith way back
this show is among the very first by Fran Christina at the drums - he joined in London Ontario Canada from down here in Nova Scotia, replacing Mike Buck
Rock on JLV!
that has to be the ultimate Jumpin Bad - astounding saxophone vibe in the hapr style, a la Walter himself

Why repeat the setlist like I did in my description???
Does "fulltime Lover" remind anyone of another song at all :) ......"Texas Flood" :) I can certainly hear a lot of what Stevie Learnt in Jimmy's playing......SRV is my Idol but, I long had Vinyl Fab T-Brids Albums before I got my first SRV tape. The Fab T-Birds even toured in Australia and played the venue just down the road from me. Unfortunately I was too young to attend The Rum Distillery. I was the only 12-14yo I knew in Australia that was into The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Was in love with Kim's harmonica and Jimmy's playing and the stories the songs told. As a teenage boy coming of age I could certainly relate to "Why Get Up" every Monday morning. You ask my mum she will swear black'n'blue Mondaitis is a REAL disease. LOL. Suffered from it all my life. I just think I enjoy myself a little too much on weekends. Thank you for the Good Times T-birds and for the upload Bluesblaster. Cheers Veni Vidi Vici ;) P.s. This concert is 3 years before SRVs first Album and still my fav.
"Texas Flood" was first released in 1958. All this T-Bird material is new to me. But I still knew all the lyrics. Every song is a cover or close to a cover of a 1950s song. I know the originals. But it's good listening. I enjoyed the T-Bird interpretations.
SRV composed little original music. And he ran into copyright problems for putting his name on music that he did not compose. The most obvious example is "Rude Mood." SRV very clearly stole that from Lightnin' Hopkins. "Rude Mood" is just an electrified and faster version of Hopkins song "Sky Hop." SRV finally admitted that it is a Hopkins' song, and he stopped playing it live. But he never paid the Hopkins Estate a single penny for copyright violation. And he didn't remove his name from the credits. To this day, SRV's name is on a song that SRV publicly admitted was composed by Hopkins.
So jealous dude. Did you see Jimmy induct stevie into hall of fame this year , was brilliant. Also another legend inducted I been into last few years is Bill Withers, what a song r
Writer and a man in touch. Only have to listen to grandma's hands.
Thos Robert yes Robert music goes around and around, still enjoy the difference interpretations . 90% of Led Zeppelin are rip offs finally giving some credit to blind Willie Dixon, but still not spirit (blatant rip off ). SPIRIT SUPPORT LED ZEP THEN YEAR LATER RIPPD TH33 SONG OFF, LOL. sorry caps on tablet didn't realize.
Jimmie Lee is KILLER; little brother Stevie knew it and some of us know as well.
@@thosrobertStevie wrote or co-wrote many songs, including several of his biggest hits. Obviously, he covered many songs in tribute. But that doesn’t diminish what he composed (Pride and Joy, Love Struck Baby, Lenny, I’m Crying, Scuttle Buttin, Couldn’t Stand the Weather, House Is Rockin, Life Without You, Empty Arms, Stang’s Swang, Honey Bee, Tightrope, and others). Rude Mood was done in a similar motif to Sky Hop, but the specific notes are vastly different. Stevie clearly said his song was inspired by Lightnin’. However, it was a very long way from plagiarism. Stevie never stated that Rude Mood was a Hopkins song; he said it was a take on it. We should be clear and specific here rather than drag the guy’s name through the mud without a factual basis.

Jeez , Tbirds mean Texas mean Rockin mean Blues. Know what I mean?
I wish they come out with a Jimmie Vaughan Stratocaster , that would be my next axe ! Have they made one ? For all of you out there who may know ? Thank you for letting me know .
Yes there is a JV signature strat: thehub.musiciansfriend.com/guitar-reviews/hands-on-review-fender-jimmie-vaughan-tex-mex-stratocaster
YES!!!.....and they used to be more affordable for all of us Jimmie wannabees.
this is the way to live and be a bluesman and come dance with the devil and some say and they blues tis evil yaaaaaaaaa
The F’n T Birds!!!
Anyone know the story behind Jimmy's broken foot here?
From what I know, he broke it falling down from a staircase backstage at the Venue, London on March 2nd 1980, while on the European tour.
Billy Bremner of Rockpile replaced him for a few shows of the European tour as the two bands were touring together, you can see him on the Old Grey Whistle Test 1980 tbirds performance, and when Jimmie checked out of the hospital now with a cast he went back to playing again
In any case, i have heard multiple versions of the incident so it's difficult to know what exactly happened
Super Band, leider sehr schlechte Tonqualität
