  • Just in time for Father’s Day, the I.W. Harper 15 year bourbon has been released. I decided to compare it to the Orphan Barrel “Forged Oak” 15 year bourbon since they came from the exact same distillery (New Bernheim), share the same mash bill (86% Corn, 6% Rye & 8% Barley) and aged at identical rickhouses (Bernheim and Stitzel Weller).
As of 6-18-2015, my current bottle count stands at 1,914 total bottles. I have 1035 different ones in the bar & another 879 in back stock. I am a Certified Specialist of Spirits and have also been certified by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT). I've been actively collecting for the last two decades and what started as a small basic home bar has transformed (with the help and understanding of my wonderful wife) into what I think is a pretty nice collection. Thank you for watching and sharing in my passion.
    Cheers!

How did we miss that one? Is it because the bottle is plastered in Japanese?

I enjoyed both of these. Did not know they had the same lineage.

Ok. So I was gifted an unopened bottle of Harper's that was sitting in my friend's bar since it opened in 1980. The serial number on the lable showed it was bottled in 1967. I poured a small taste into a rocks glass. It's simply the unequivocal best drink of bourbon I have ever had. Needless to say I will not be drinking this very often. Special occasions and end of the world. The only time it gets to see the light of day.
