  • Today we taste and review I.W. Harper Bourbon and Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey makes an appearance.
If you want to toast the channel:
    1) Upload your video toast to RUclips.
    2) Mark it as "unlisted" if you don't want the video to appear in public search results.
    3) Put a link to the video in our comments with the hashtag "#toast".

** Can I donate a whisk(e)y for you to review in The Whisk(e)y Vault?
Of course! If you’re interested in making a tax-deductible donation towards our whiskey selection, head on over to:
    austinwhiskyvault.com/whisky-d...
    ** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
    **A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

I know this is from 3 years ago 🤣 I know you mentioned doing a video specifically on the bernhiem, I haven't been able to find it. Just picked this bottle up because I originally asked for weller, he said this is our baby weller, cheap and still a wheated whiskey. Haven't tried it yet but would love to watch that video before as I am new to the whiskey game and like to watch your guys videos to try to find the same smells and tastes or compare to what I smell/taste. Thanks so much yall are wicked!

Your expertise is very much needed now Rex. I need some help deciding which whisky to get. I am looking for a whisky with a similar finish with the lagavulin 16, long, dry and sort of sweet. I have found that I dislike Bowmore 12, and Talisker, and this gives me the impression that I should stay away from the maritime and salty whisky`s. Should I therefore look to maybe Laphroaig quarter cask, Caol Ila 12, or maybe even an Ardbeg?

Hey Rex & Dan! It is no coincidence I say Rex's name first. I recently bought some Glencairn glasses and I love them. I feel like you can taste a clear distinct difference between a normal square shaped glass and the Glencairn glass. I know you guys always say its whatever you prefer but I think most whisk(e)y lovers will prefer a Glencairn glass. Also I need some advice from you guys what is your preferred top shelf bourbon under 150 dollars? I like cinnamon, vanilla, cherry, apple, and smoky flavors. Thanks again!

Great review guys. I just got a bottle of I.W. today on sale in Chicago. It was $29.99. I agree, the nose is decent but light and the taste was decent but thin. I probably wouldn't pick up another bottle. I like a creamier and spicier bourbon.

  • @TheKlickitat

I am curious and would like some feedback from those in the know.
When a whiskey is evaluated and it seems to have big flavor or thin flavor, how much of it is due to the type of still, how many times it was distilled, where the cuts were made and finally aged. I know all of these things and more make up the flavor profile, but it seems to me that there are some things that have a bigger influence than others. Is there a way that you guys (Daniel) could do a little investigating as to process of whiskeys that are either really big or really small in flavor to see if there is a correlation in certain factors?
I know myself as a whiskey geek would be interested in information like this.

Hey, I had an interesting question for you guys. I was listening to the radio and heard an ad for Tito's vodka. They said it was 100% corn vodka. Couldn't that be sold as an un-aged whisky, or are there differences in the distillation process?

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  6 лет назад

It absolutely could as long as it met all the other requirements about not being distilled beyond a certain point.

    • @ckc1966
      @ckc1966 6 лет назад

Following up on the host's comment on proof off the still, generally vodka gets distilled to 190 proof and beyond so it would not qualify as bourbon or corn whiskey as a result.

    How to kill a bottle
    1. Take a knife
    2. Make waving movements at the bottle
    3. When the bottle is finely opened (not broken in pieces) enjoy it
    4. Bottle down ceremony
    Cheers from the Netherlands

Hello guys. do you think you can talk about Cleveland Whiskey. This company is claiming that their whiskey aged in only one day using a pressure chamber can compare to whiskey aged for years in barrels. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Could you give us your opinion?

Last night I found 3 bottles(with special case) of Blood Oath Pact 3 at my local Total Wine here in Jacksonville FL. They had the price at $109, I looked at the MSRP and it’s supposed to be $99.
Do you guys still think I got a good deal at a decent price. I read that only 10,000 of these bottles were made and won’t be made again.

    • @bunit1701

Gizmomaster IMHO, $10-20 over MSRP for limited release spirit isn't a complete rip off. When they start asking 50-500% premiums over MSRP is when I start shaking my head.

Hey Mooch it’s pronounced (Lay-Ow) Leau FYI. I was wondering what you and the Soms feelings were on price gouging of certain brands. I’ve been trying to get Elmer T Lee and I know it’s asking price in CA is around $32/bottle. My brother and I have tried the two major retailers (I won’t mention names) and they sell out in minutes statewide. I found a local independent liquor store asking $80 with 5 bottles on the shelf and another store for $100. Are their industry rules that should keep retailers from pricing 2-3 times from msrp?

After catching my breath and calming myself down, I looked back at the monstrosities that appeared at the top of the email. Looking closely, I realized it was a picture of you two, which caused me to immediately gag again and nearly vomit.
All joking aside, love the work you two do. Keep it up.
