I.W. Harper was my Dad's Bourbon Of Choice, way back in the day. I remember seeing I.W. Harper vaguely while I was living in Boston (1990's) but wow... missed it. Now that I am living in Israel, we ARE getting Kentucky bourbons out here, but not seeing I. W. Harper out here.... yet. Since my dad passed away I have been making a point of trying to get my bourbon mojo in his memory. I am looking forward to seeing I. W. Harper out here in Israel so I can rediscover it for myself.

I know we are a month into this format, but I love it. I watch so many more videos of this format because of the stories and teaching, more than the whiskey.

There is a lot of business and social wisdom in this filtering idea. As a consumer or participant I often do this from the other side when considering what environments I choose to invest in.

Yes you guys are certainly our people and have become like family with many alumni over the years. It's so funny you mention spouses coming for free. Stephanie liked it so much after the first two hours she decided to become a somm herself and is now level 3 as well. It worked so well she is letting me build a whiskey castle haha. Cheers

Five years ago, I was sittng in the living room, watching a Vault video, when my wife walked in. I don't remember what video it was, but when it finished, she commented to me, "Well, it appears that you have found your people".
This video reminded me that she was right then and still is today.

I’ve commented before but I really like this damn channel. I just realized these videos remind me of the book How To Win Friends and Influence People. Extremely good book and you remind me of that book with each video. Cheers, keep it up.

I do not at all have a business need to become a whiskey Somm, but I absolutely want to become one so that I can improve my whiskey journey and help others along the path to enjoy the things I do.
The joy that comes from introducing a friend to a smoky scotch only to have them tell me it's their favorite whiskey so far... That joy is fulfilling.

I have to say, this was a great video. I really enjoyed the story, and it was nice to hear about the whiskey. I found myself waiting for the second part of the story, which is a guaranteed sign of capturing attention. Very well done and well said. I shared it with many non-whiskey friends!

My first time on campus it was with trepidation. I had come alone and it was over 100 degrees. I met every other classmate and the hosts. We had dinner and drank. It was a good time but I didn't know what to expect. After the first day of class though I knew I had found my people.
Now after finishing level 2 and preparing to head out for ewa I can safely say it's my home away from home if only for the company one can find there.

@@WhiskeyVault How w that be intriguing for a individual from NY w no alumni? As someone with a growing whiskey club of over a 100 members I'd like to get some additional insight but it's still just a hobby and I couldn't justify anywhere near the costs (if above are accurate). How does just the accreditation/certification compare with what you get from StaveAndThief's Brbn Steward at $75 or Whiskey Masters 1st level at $400? (both online courses I realize). Thx, I've enjoyed your vids : )

Strooonnngg disagree on the price being a valid ‘filter for attracting the right people’. Price as an incentive to be ‘serious’ only works relative to someone’s means - information to which you don’t have access (nor should you). Nothing wrong with positioning yourself on the higher end of the market, but don’t pretend it does anything but earn you a higher salary (edit: which nicely highlights the non-profit loophole - probably, not sure how it works in the USA).
…I’ll also venture to say it often won’t attract the best of people, but of course that’s just opinion and it will likely be mitigated by the word-of-mouth filter in this case.

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  5 месяцев назад +2

I think you and I agree on that point. And I think it comes down to what I mean by filtering with price.
I'm trying to make sure that people take showing up very seriously. And in the business world that Wizard Academy exists in, we are on the middle to low end of pricing for the kind of events that we do.
That is absolutely not true for the whiskey class, which is why it's been a hurdle for some people in the industry.
But if people take the initiative to reach out and mention that the price is a hurdle, we have found a way to get them in almost 100% of the time.
