And BAM JTLK is back!!!!!! ben missing you brother been missing the campfire chats but when you are a business man work comes first looking forward to seeing more content from you have a great week see you later
Ive been watering very consistently throughout the spring and early summer, and my lawn is still looking like "meh". Been following a solid plan, regular fert, pre emergent, post emergent, fungicide, grub killer, humic acid... Im in the first season since a partial reno last fall, but still. This is the most I've ever put into my lawn, and I am still waiting for it really start banging.
My success during Summer heat is frequent watering but be sure you have good aration for maximum absorbion. If you have compacted turf..the sun will steal the moisture.
Use those exact same sprinklers for my boulevard/parkway from Menards. Super simple design and cheap to get a handful to put in a series. I can run 4 in a single row if I want but usually stick with 3 for my narrow sections. I do recommend bringing an old screwdriver with you or something else stronger to start a hole since the spikes are plastic and can snap if the ground is really dry and hard.
Amazing thumbnail....the process made the lawn on both sides of the street greener. Even the leaves on all the trees look greener. Its like a pic was photoshopped by adjusting the rbg settings and made to make greens more darker..🙊 even the road is darker
I know you disagreed with me in the past about this subject, but about 5 weeks in to drought, you need to provide water at this time. Yes, stress is needed. It "weeds" out the weak grass, and whatever survives the stress is the the grass you want to stay. You can add seed to compensate. But there is a threshold for water timing and that threshold is about 5 weeks without water. At this time you probably should provide some.
I like to do one watering a week no matter the conditions. The lawn struggles for a day or two but it always jumps right back with that one deep watering in mid summer.
Thanks, man. I just learned something new. I didn't realize it was good to let the lawn stress like that. I will definitely add this to my lawn care arsenal.
Hydretain would have been the better product to plug into this video instead of the RGS being that it’s about watering & retaining that water. Just ordered my jug online & it should help get me through the season without having to worry so much about watering! Let’s GO! 💦🌱
Wow 3 good points! I had a section of my lawn go dormant last year. This year I put down hydretain and that stuff works! Area has not gone dormant and lawn is looking good for the high temps we have been getting. Good to see another video.
Yo Jake! Another good tip, is to rinse (NOT full water) but only RINSE the morning dew into the lawn every morning. That dew is just as healthy as rain water and should be rinsed into the soil before the heat of the day evaporates it. That technique is pure gold during times of drought. 😁👍 A quick spray is all it takes. ONLY during times of drought, though. If the lawn is getting plenty of rain and/ or irrigation, then disregard this message.
lol if I water every 3 days my lawn will be pure brown in the summer. Maybe it's because the base under the lawn is rocks, construction debris, and crap dirt. Gotta love tract home contractors. That's with a full irrigation system computer controlled. Should I try every two or three days but water twice as long?
Applying Biostimulants such as RGS in very hot temps hasn’t produced good results for me. The RGS stains the grass blades and makes the lawn appear even worse. Maybe it works in the long run but I advise against putting down Biostimulants in very hot weather.
I recommend folks who are considering the biostimulant and hot temperatures to spray it in the evening and watered in for 10 minutes if applicable. Otherwise I wouldn't apply anything to the lawn. Also RGS does have a heat restriction you do not want to spray when temperatures are above 80°. So evenings are ideal.
What do you think of irrigation controllers like rachio 3 or orbital that track your lawns moisture levels based on weather and past watering amounts that determine when to water?
For cool season GCF recommends using it primarily in the early spring, late spring and one more in the fall. If you would like to use it in the summer you're more than welcome to It's a great alternative to RGS. Really would have boils down to GCF products is options You have a lot of them 💯👍
Great question! It's different for everyone depending on variables such as the sprinkler using and how many gallons per minute your hose puts out. As I mentioned in the video, place a tuna can or rain gauge in the middle of your sprinkler stream and see how long it takes to get it to the half inch mark. You're going to run it long enough to get a half inch each time three times a week.
Thanks! If it took 15 mins to fill the tuna can, I guess I would have to water 1 lawn section for 15 mins and then move onto the next and do another 15 mins?
Hey Jake, Hope you don’t mind another question. We are expecting a lot of rain here in the northeast come Thursday and Friday. Can I apply an application of Milorganite in combination with another fertilizer? I’m waiting on delivery of Yard Mastery Stress Blend with high potassium to help with potassium deficiency but it won’t be here til 13th. Would like to green up my lawn and thought applying Milorganite will jump start that as well and get it watered in. Thanks again for all your input. Much appreciated.
I think it's a great product If you're looking to cut back on water. For me that's not much of an issue most years as we do get a bit of rain help and I Don't water the lawn very much.
Great video Jake! I’m having a serious issue with my lawn. Notice my lawn pulling up easily and many brown spots. I thought it was from overwatering but found out my root system is weak possibly due to over applying my pre-emergent/ fertilizer in early spring. I believe I measured the square footage of my lawn wrong and applied at a heavier rate. Is my lawn a lost cause this season or is there away to strengthen my root system? I have a combo of KBG/annual rye/ red fescue.
I would ensure you're not watering too much and getting down a good 1/2" each time as I stated in the video. That may be the issue from what I'm hearing.
@@JakeTheLawnKid Yeah, that seems like the way to go. Also, would you consider distributing flyers as Soliciting? The towns I'm trying to work on (Closest ones) require a Soliciting Permit. I'm not sure if i could really obtain that with out a Company, and i was wondering if leaving flyers on doors are considered Soliciting, because if they are I'm not really sure how to get customers.

Solid very solid video Jake. Great content especially at this time of the year. Funny thing is the monsoon that central IN has had this isn’t really applicable right now. Lol Currently deployed overseas and this would be applicable here. Everything is BROWN!!! Lol Keep the great content up my friend!

You speak the truth. In Wi we just came out of a bad drought with temps in the 90s and now were getting walloped by rain. Water is king.
@Luca I hope you get some good rain soon. I was out with the sprinkler today testing out a new hose reel.

Proper watering goes a long way my friends. Deep and infrequent has helped the lawn out more than last years watering every day.
I use Revive every summer, green lawn all season long. Revive liquid on dry spots.
Always learn something from watching you. Thanks for what you do.

Melnor Spike style.
