It's Because PRAISE BELONGS TO GOD. I'm just talented because there is sb who gave me this talent, and i need to honor him. We see this people of talent create things and observe their contribution and applaud them for their competence. And they are a creation and a Gift to us from God. He gifted them with talent. We are a receptacle, and he is a giver. what do we have? The exaltation which is due to him.
Really great! It just reinforces to me, the value of good parents. My father was as opposite to yours as is possible. Your dad sounds absolutely wonderful and you are the fabulous result.
Wow. Never have I heared someone talking about a healthy child-parent relationship like this before and neither do I know someone who experienced one. That's rare. Lucky you. I am happy for you and I mean it.
Practice telling yourself, no matter what others think of you, what you think about yourself matters the most Reframe your thoughts to celebrate who you really are, Strong, Courageous, and Brave. Thank you so much Dr. Toomer
Every single person on this planet cares about what other think of them--it is an innate part of humanity to _need_ to be included in the pack. It's wholly disingenuous to pretend otherwise, not matter your intentions.
This motivated me and Same time made me Sad. Because my Dad was like my SuperMan and Loosing him at Age 15 was so painful because My Cheerleader was gone and all our plans for my future were gone. I lived in self doubt because I only get that dad voice of.. 'I am proud of you " it took me time to internalise those words and tell me that to my self. It was hard but I am glad Of my Progress, even though it seem so slow but I am glad to be moving.. 😅. and I am sure my Dad is proud of Her 28 yr old little Baby girl from Heaven❤️
You are missing the point of what "imposter syndrome" originally meant. It is usually applied to when in the eyes of the public, which can be on a stage, or even having a book out with endless great reviews, but in any case associates with either a real stage or a metaphorical one. The important distinction with ordinary stage fright is that you have huge attention and enormous goodwill provided by the audience. You really feel like an imposter. This "imposter syndrome" it is more unsettling because you have a huge expectation from the audience, at least as you perceive, they you cannot mentally live up to. In your talk here, you have framed it as just related to achievements, which isn't quite right - it has to be when related to being in the limelight, and trust me, it really feels like you are an imposter. You can have very good self-esteem and a balanced psychological when out of the limelight, but when "on the stage" in some way, it feels understandable really weird.
Silly video. Imposter syndrome isn't limited to "marginalized people" (though, not a big surprise you'd try to reinforce that myth) and it isn't doubt and anxiety felt as one is trying something new. It's a persistent belief that nothing one has achieved was by one's own merit or abilities--it all came down to luck. Once one has reached a goal, all one can feel is a brief moment of relief, rather than enhanced confidence. Hence, _every_ challenge is seen as having the potential to expose one's insufficiencies, revealing one's "true" self to others as a fraud or imposter. The result is relentless stress (pressure to perform), anxiety (fearing the luck won't come through this time), and dread (one will inevitably find one's self alone and reliant solely on their "proven-to-be" insufficient abilities. I hope you've learned more about imposter syndrome since making this video three years ago.
This is powerful. Reframing your thoughts is a tool we all need. You are not an imposter, you are BRAVE.
ALX SE student i am marking register here > like to show that you pass by😉
Excellent! Thank you so much for this re-framing of our thoughts motivation.
Execellent work to Alx to reveal such information we tend to ignore.
God bless you ma for this.

He became the parent he wished he had. Ultimately, we become what we make of oursleves.

Thank you for the mindset shift Dr. Toomer.
This is an important perspective. We have to be careful in pathologizing natural phenomenon
Thankyou for stopping myself from going down a negative rabbit hole and instead reframing the thoughts of doubt I have as being normal ❤
