  • Impostor syndrome can be crippling. The fear of being exposed as a fraud; the feeling that you don't know what you're doing and everyone is going to find out. But what if you could turn impostor syndrome into your superpower?
Louise shares some of her insights into impostor syndrome, and how, instead of letting it rule her life, she now sees it as a positive influence that makes her feel brave.
Impostor syndrome can be crippling. The fear of being exposed as a fraud, the feeling that you don't know what you're doing and everyone is going to find out, is something many of us deal with on a daily basis.
But what if you could turn impostor syndrome into your superpower? What if, when you started to feel like an impostor, you used that feeling to spur you on and do great things?
In this talk, Louise shares some of her insights into impostor syndrome, and how, instead of letting it rule her life, she now sees it as a positive feeling. She shares tactics to help you remove all the fear from impostor syndrome, and start to embrace it. Louise suggests that if you can start to treat impostor syndrome as a superpower, just think of all the things that you'd feel brave enough to tackle. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I’ve watched a lot of talks on IS but Louise is brilliant. So funny how it’s usually the most capable, smart people who feel inadequate. It doesn’t add up! I love the small mindset shift she mentions. Switching to ‘I care deeply about this’ or ‘how lucky to be with such smart people in a place I can learn’, it’s very clever.

This is the best solution I have heard and why we have to call it a syndrome like a disease. This is very empowering and thank you so much!

That's a perfect reframing! I think a lot of us are probably perfectionists.

I love this so much. Permission to be imperfect. Permission to learn on the go. Permission to have your care be enough to give you a chance to contribute! If you got yourself there, you deserve to be there.

I feel this so hard. I graduated college with almost a 4.0, I landed on the honor role, and my professor always told me how smart I was, but I always felt like he said that because I was the minority woman in a male industry, and he was just trying to boost me. Now I have imposter syndrom because I landed my dream job, I scored 12 points higher than the next person under me during interviews, but I also knew the questions ahead of time, so I was faster with recall and I knew more information. So in that regard I feel like a fraud and that sooner or later they will find me out. I really needed to hear this today.

I love the way she puts it. It‘s so simple.
When I noticed that this feeling has been going after me, my first instinct was to run away.
But hey why not turn and look it in the face ? Let‘s dance with it and enjoy it.
    ^^

31M subs and less than a 1000 views is crazy

    • @imissjokesonpurpose

It's because people subbed when they saw the popular ted talks. Subs are nice but it really only matters if people see the videos so if a video happens to be popular then good for them. However if it doesn't it sucks for them.
