    20:00 this is one of those great things that’s actually so consistent between base game and dlc. In the base game you see the sun explode and think “my goal is to stop it.” In the dlc you see a lot of focus on a chained up thing and think “my goal is to unchain it.” Both times wrong - what’s done is done and your goal exists in light of it. You can’t undo what has been done or is happening.

    • @DavidCornell1
      @DavidCornell1 7 месяцев назад +8

      I mean you break the chains in the dream world, but not in the real world; but in a more metaphorical sense you think your goal is to free what’s trapped inside there. In the end, there is no freeing it, because its prison is death, and the only thing you can do it comfort it and help it move on (and fully die, I guess)

    • @benji-menji
      @benji-menji 4 месяца назад +3

      I guess. You do break the chains in the real world, but even if you somehow knew the code to disable the towers (which was only found through data mining) the prisoner is still a corpse.

    The number of people who are surprised by the big bang destroying the previous universe is tbh really surprising to me. I understood that immediately when i first saw the explosion at the end of the basegame. I guess I'm more familiar with the scientific concept of the big bang than the average person, so the ramifications were more clear for me? And I guess not everyone picked up on the 'death' theme on the base game. That tendency to not understand it is tbh why the DLC is so very important to the story and the themes in it- it really makes sure players GET that death and the beauty of life and death is part of the game... and an integral part of real life. This game is therapeutic, for real.

    12:07 I find it odd how many people don’t get that the first time you enter the stranger, you’re on a different side than when you enter directly from timber hearth. It seems like folks think they’re warping into the stranger like dark bramble instead of just moving past a cloaking field.

    • @wortwortwort117
      @wortwortwort117 9 месяцев назад +21

      It's way easier to understand that after you've already played the game and have flown to the stranger alot.
      It's a completely normal and logical first observation.

    • @landerwamsley6552
      @landerwamsley6552 9 месяцев назад +6

      I think it has something to do with the power of that first time you go through the cloak field. The music is so unsettling and the scene is so dark that it really does feel like you've gone through a portal to somewhere else (or at least that was my experience), and I think that sticks in peoples brains even as they're presented with some evidence to the contrary. You really need something to slap you in the face and say "Hey, you're still in the solar system buddy!" before you break that preconception.

    • @Shirospyre
      @Shirospyre 8 месяцев назад +5

      Warping is something they've likely already experienced in outer wilds, so it makes sense they'd think this would function similarly before realising it's a cloaking field, something they haven't seen in outer wilds before.

      A few reasons most people would miss this:
      - Every other planet in the system rotates and revolves around the sun; every time you approach them you’re coming from a different direction, and you see something totally different when you get there (a different side of the planet). When you approach the stranger, from either side, it looks the same, all the way up until you go through the skinny light door into the ring. It makes sense to think that whenever you approach the stranger it’s the same, since it looks and feels the same from either side, unlike every other planet.
      - People generally have a really bad sense of 3D space, especially in video games. For most people it never clicks that the solar system is on the same planar orbit but that the stranger is way “above” it. So they would have no reason to know or think they’re approaching it from an “opposite side” unless they think hard enough about it
      - Mechanically, going past the cloak “feels” like a video game loading zone (and I assume it is, though I’m not actually sure). So a natural instinct for anyone who’s played games before is that you’ll load into the same place every time

    at least to my understanding the owl people didnt want to protect other races for searching the eye of the universe, i think that if one of them entered prematurely it would have ended anyways because "an observer has entered the eye" (didnt matter when), or maybe the universe would have followed its course till the end but because we dont know how time works at the eye maybe the first observer would feel like it ended instantly.
    you can even see in one reel that new universes are being formed out of their skull(memories) because in their vision they were the observer that entered.

      "how time works at the eye" I've seen so many people attribute weird additional time powers to this object whose whole deal is "affected by the eye of the beholder," and which clearly just slows/petrifies/entangles the atoms of everything nearby. I also stopped playing at that point, but only briefly. It wasn't the stress or jumpscares that got me, but my eyesight isn't great with poor light (in real life and in games), and I was angry that the game expected me to stealth around in very dim light (I assumed - it appeared pitch black to me, but I assumed it was just my eyesight). Fortunately, after sleeping on it, I cooled down a bit, and decided to just give it another go and see how far I could get without covering my light. With a bit of repetition, I learned where enemies were and how to evade them, and I got past that bit.
      And then after finishing the DLC and watching other people playing, I learned that most of the stealth sections could actually be bypassed if you didn't assume "the game has stealth mechanics, so that must be what the game expects you to do in these sections." 😁

They all involve using the rafts to complete a different section than the one you entered the dream world at.
      It was so frustrating to see so many people complain that they NEED to perform stealth sections and that stealth is not what they wanted out of the Outer Wilds experience, when the stealth sections are like trying to jetpack through the cactus hallway to the sun station, or to frustratingly squeeze in your ship to land at the black hole forge instead of taking the proper route.
