Ceiling Light Replacement | Wiring New Pot Lights

Today's video will show you how to take out your old Ceiling Lights and replace them with new ones. It will also show you how to wire them in. All pot lights are similar in design so follow along and have your manual handy for your lights and let's get the job done.
**CAUTION** **ATTENTION**
**DO NOT ATTEMPT ANY WORK ON YOUR CEILING LIGHTS WITHOUT CUTTING THE MAIN POWER AT THE BREAKER BOX/CONTROL PANEL. TURNING OFF THE POWER AT THE LIGHT SWITCH IS NOT ENOUGH TO STOP THE CURRENT GONG TO THE LIGHTS. **
Pro Tip: Run a lamp from another room using an extension cord to light up your work area. Battery powered trouble lights are handy as well.

So where are the pot lights?

There are many types of pot lights. These are a dome pot light. By your confusion I am thinking you are thinking about the sunkin pot lights that lay flush with your ceiling. If you are going to go with the sunkin pot lights level with your ceiling you will have to drop your whole ceiling a half a foot or so and redo all the drywall. It is a labour intensive process that will cost you about 15 grand to do yourself for a 1000 square foot space. If you higher a contractor he or she will charge you 30 grand. I recommend the dome pot lights like the ones in my video. Best of luck.

Why does it look like the same fixture in the beginning and the end?

The client wanted the same style of light but more light. If you pay close attention when I’m taking the originals off they only are wired for one light. The new light fixtures I put in although a very similar design are wired for 2 lights per fixture. The new lights provide double the light. This process will work with a different design as well. They are all pretty much the same. Good luck with your lighting project.
