I really don’t get the hype about Super Mario Wonder. It was okay. I like the aesthetic of it. But it was waaaay too easy. I honestly lost interest about half way through. I had even more fun with some of the New Super Mario games. Super Mario Odyssey on the other hand, is my favorite Mario game ever. I found almost every moment of it to be completely enthralling. Greatly appreciate hearing about your favorites. Probably too hardcore for most people but Dustforce is my favorite platformer(and possibly game of all time). Only Megaman X(2,4), Mario Galaxies and 64 come close to me. Celeste was alright too. Dustforce just has this extreme elegance about it. The momentum-based movement system is so finely tuned, and feels very analog. When you time your dashes well your speed will suffer. Or if you hit a slope wrong and fall well short of your target. But when you get it right, you fly... So satisfying.

When my mom got us a SNES it came bundled with Mario All Stars with Mario World separately. Then when it got stolen, and got a replacement SNES, we got Mario All Stars and Mario World again 😂
Honestly cannot go wrong with any of the 2D Rayman games. My favorite game of all time is Jak and Daxter The Precursor Legacy. It had 0 load times and each biome was fun to explore.
I'm a great fan of the classic Sonic games still remember playing Sonic on my Sega Genesis and bombing the first level. For a young gamer use to playing the more slow paced Mario games Sonic took a little getting use to as he blasted through the levels rather then leisurely walking through them. Also though he sadly fell into obscurity Sparkster was also a great game for the Super Nintendo gaming library.
I know it's just one dude's opinion, but it's kinda sad to not see Abe's Oddesey or Skullmonkeys not on this list. I knew right away that they wouldn't be as well, they're not TOO well known, but they're CRIMINALLY underrated. Truly masterpieces.
Great video. This is a genre that has been sorely ignored outside of a handful of companies that still care about 3D Platformers. I can only think it's because Nintendo has become so dominant in this genre that no one else really bothers to make them. It's a shame because I love them. It's one of the few genres outside of RPGs broadly that I still play.
All these titles are fantastic in their own right and however you put them in an individual order cannot be argued with. That being said, having SMG2 above SMO is heresy in my book. 😂 Still, great video. 😀👍
Yo this is my first time watching your channel and I’m a big lover of platformers too!! You got a new subscriber to your channel buddy, keep up the great videos!! 👍🏻👍🏻
My top 3 are: Shovel Knight Really solid game with a ton of content and proper sense of challenge and charm Spyro 2 Ripto’s Rage Not a big fan of collectathons but this game seriously clicked with me Rayman 2 The Great Escape My favorite game of all time, I love this game to death Eligible to change as I still need to play a lot of the Mega Man games but I’ve only made it up to Mega Man 3
I like your list, I think that Rayman Legends is the best modern era platformer. It's art design, fun difficulty curve and challenges are all top notch. Next up would be Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 they were really special. My favorite old school platformer will always be Banjo Tooie and maybe my favorite game ever.
Great list! I think Wario Land should be on this though, especially Wario Land 4 and Wario Land Shake It. Those are really underrated and great games, its like a Mario platformer but heavily remixed is the best way I would describe it
My best platformers are 1- the DK Country games on SNES (and they're not THAT hard, folks) 2- the 2D Sonic games from the Genesis era 3- the 2D Mario Bros games (such as 1-2-3-World and Yoshi's Island) 4- the 3D Mario games (specially 64 and Odyssey) 5- the Spyro games on the PS1 Honorable mentions: the RetroStudios DKC games, Banjo Kazooie and the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy
It’s funny you stated up front it was “your” list specifically…then proceeded to give one of the most unbiased lists Ive seen! 🏆🔥 IMO you were just factually correct. If I was doing one Id use Rayman Legends (includes Origins as unlockable) the Snes Mario All Stars that included Mario World, Sonic Collection, etc etc. same as with Spyro & Crash, just lets you cram more games in. Was mario-heavy, but…hard not to when they’re so good! Celeste, Cuphead, etc def deserve spots.
Mario Bros 3 must have been mind-blowing for kids that played Mario Bros 1. The graphixs were so much better, theres like 7 different worlds, and each world had like 10 levels. The level variety might be the best in any mario game. And had side content like toadstool mini games and mini bosses. The game was insane in 1990. I personally prefer Mario World because of the controls and the ability to speed through each level, making it more replayable.
I don't think I can make a full 25, but in no particular order.... Sonic Unleashed (don't know if it counts because of the God of War game play in the night levels, but I love playing this game and trying to speed run Eggmanland) Sonic Generations (2D Sonic was a bit disappointing, but still plenty of fun) Sonic 2 (nothing should be needed to be said) Sonic 3&K (again the game speaks for itself) Sonic Mania (just play it) Sonic 4 E1 (y'all can hate all you want, but I still have fun speed running this game and I think the tag moves in episode 2 slow down the game play in a way that I didn't like) Super Mario 3 (just play it) Super Mario 1 (just play it) Super Mario 2/Toki Toki Palace (just play it) Super Mario World (Nike: Just Do It) Super Mario 64 (I'm just repeating myself at this point) Spyro The Dragon (only played the first one so I don't have an opinion on the others) Ape Escape (SUPER SLEPT ON!!! Utilized the new (at the time) dual joysticks in an innovative way.) Donkey Kong Country (does enough to differentiate itself from Mario and Sonic) Doesn't count because it's a rom hack, but Sonic 2 Retro Remix 2016 Edition. I love speed running Chemical Plant Zone 2. Sonic 3D Blast (I wouldn't call it a good game, but I have nostalgia connection to it) If I didn't mention one it's probably because I didn't play it or didn't like it. I never owned a Cube so I wouldn't know anything about its catalog. I was busy playing SmackDown or MGS on the PS2. But if I had to pick one for the very best, SM64. Because of Super Mario 64 we got Grand Theft Auto III which got us GTA San Andreas which got us GTAV. Plus without even knowing that it was just a really fun game to play which had a really fun way to get around the cartridge limitations by having multiple goals in one level. I'm more of a Sonic guy than a Mario guy, but Super Mario 64 also gave us LoZ:OoT which is tied in first place of best game of all time in my opinion. SM64 was just revolutionary.
Decent list, but the absence of Banjo Kazooie is the one thing I’d critique.

DKC Tropical Freeze, Crash Bandicoot 4, Rayman Origins… they’re all in this top tier echelon of platformers to me
Honestly cannot go wrong with any of the 2D Rayman games. My favorite game of all time is Jak and Daxter The Precursor Legacy. It had 0 load times and each biome was fun to explore.
DK Country 2 is my pick for all time best platform game. Second is Dk Country, then the excellent Super Mario World.
I'm a great fan of the classic Sonic games still remember playing Sonic on my Sega Genesis and bombing the first level. For a young gamer use to playing the more slow paced Mario games Sonic took a little getting use to as he blasted through the levels rather then leisurely walking through them. Also though he sadly fell into obscurity Sparkster was also a great game for the Super Nintendo gaming library.
oh oh do a fighting game one! good video, super mario 3d world is so good.
My list:Oddworld,the adventures of batman and robin,metal slug,midnight wanderers,ghost and goblins,ice climber,contra
My favorite (non-Mario) platformers are Rayman Legends, Banjo Kazooie, & Psychonauts 2. Glad atleast Rayman made it on your list!
Psychonauts 2 was awesome 😎
I know it's just one dude's opinion, but it's kinda sad to not see Abe's Oddesey or Skullmonkeys not on this list. I knew right away that they wouldn't be as well, they're not TOO well known, but they're CRIMINALLY underrated. Truly masterpieces.
Hopefully we can add astrobot to this list in the future, rooting for the little guy. Great list tho as always.
1. Super Mario World
2. Banjo-Kazooie
3. Super Mario 64
Great list but Yoshi's Woolly World deserves to be remember, and so Wario Land 4.
My top 5 are Super Mario Galaxy, Tropical Freeze, Celeste, Jak and Daxter: the Precursor Legacy, and Sonic Adventure.
Still, great video. 😀👍
Yo this is my first time watching your channel and I’m a big lover of platformers too!! You got a new subscriber to your channel buddy, keep up the great videos!! 👍🏻👍🏻
First one who mentioned Blue Fire which deserves a spot for sure
Awesome list
Kirby superstar was n still is one of the best platformers on the snes
I love platform games. We need more of them before they go away. It seems open world is taking over
No Celeste or Hollow Knight is crazy
Proud to smash that like and subscribe button for a list that includes DKC at such a high spot. Yes those games are timelessly very good.
My top 3 are:
Shovel Knight
Really solid game with a ton of content and proper sense of challenge and charm
Spyro 2 Ripto’s Rage
Not a big fan of collectathons but this game seriously clicked with me
Rayman 2 The Great Escape
My favorite game of all time, I love this game to death
Eligible to change as I still need to play a lot of the Mega Man games but I’ve only made it up to Mega Man 3
I like your list, I think that Rayman Legends is the best modern era platformer. It's art design, fun difficulty curve and challenges are all top notch. Next up would be Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 they were really special. My favorite old school platformer will always be Banjo Tooie and maybe my favorite game ever.
Love me some platformers, I dig the list. I just picked up the Switch and I’m digging the backlog I have for platformers alone
1. Banjo Kazooie
2. Mario Odyssey
3. Tropical Freeze
4. Banjo Tooie
5. Mario 64
Loved your list. Some of my favorites are on your list. Keep up the great videos.
Never played It Takes Two?
Great list! I think Wario Land should be on this though, especially Wario Land 4 and Wario Land Shake It. Those are really underrated and great games, its like a Mario platformer but heavily remixed is the best way I would describe it
This video was awesome to watch OJ, Hits ya right in the Nostalgia.. A+ Video
No Haven Call of the King?? No Azurik Rise of Perathia???? Unbelievable!! 😂
My best platformers are
1- the DK Country games on SNES (and they're not THAT hard, folks)
2- the 2D Sonic games from the Genesis era
3- the 2D Mario Bros games (such as 1-2-3-World and Yoshi's Island)
4- the 3D Mario games (specially 64 and Odyssey)
5- the Spyro games on the PS1
Honorable mentions: the RetroStudios DKC games, Banjo Kazooie and the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy
I loved Donkey Kong Country Returns
My favorites are DKC2, Mario Galaxy 2, and 1001 Spikes.
Great personal list
Great list. I'd highly recommend playing Psychonaunts 1 and 2. I think those 2 titles would move you.
I don't think I can make a full 25, but in no particular order....
Sonic Unleashed (don't know if it counts because of the God of War game play in the night levels, but I love playing this game and trying to speed run Eggmanland)
Sonic Generations (2D Sonic was a bit disappointing, but still plenty of fun)
Sonic 2 (nothing should be needed to be said)
Sonic 3&K (again the game speaks for itself)
Sonic Mania (just play it)
Sonic 4 E1 (y'all can hate all you want, but I still have fun speed running this game and I think the tag moves in episode 2 slow down the game play in a way that I didn't like)
Super Mario 3 (just play it)
Super Mario 1 (just play it)
Super Mario 2/Toki Toki Palace (just play it)
Super Mario World (Nike: Just Do It)
Super Mario 64 (I'm just repeating myself at this point)
Spyro The Dragon (only played the first one so I don't have an opinion on the others)
Ape Escape (SUPER SLEPT ON!!! Utilized the new (at the time) dual joysticks in an innovative way.)
Donkey Kong Country (does enough to differentiate itself from Mario and Sonic)
Doesn't count because it's a rom hack, but Sonic 2 Retro Remix 2016 Edition. I love speed running Chemical Plant Zone 2.
Sonic 3D Blast (I wouldn't call it a good game, but I have nostalgia connection to it)
If I didn't mention one it's probably because I didn't play it or didn't like it.
No Astro Bot: Rescue Mission is a crime
Saying Donkey Kong Country 2 is hard?? I cruised through it when it released
Great list, I could include Banjo Kazooie.
No Banjo Kazooie?
