Coming from an f-body fan/owner, I LOVE my Challenger R/T. I'd choose the Challenger 392 over the Camaro SS any day of the week. My Challenger is a daily driver, and it always puts a smile on my face.
The Challenger just looks so good. It's 2023 and it still looks amazing. The lastest models still have the same shape. Yes, an enthusiast will recognize every change but it's basically looks like it did when it came back in 08. And yhat's good.
I'm a Mustang fan and I do agree that the Challenger is better as a daily, more comfortable, looks retro, better visibility and a straightup muscle car. But, After losing to a few 6th Gen SS's.. The SS has better performance no doubt about it. These guys are obviously comparing comfort over performance.. in that case, go buy a Honda Accord Sedan.
Rrd T I'm 6'02" and have a 2SS Camaro and find its very comfortable. No sight issues which I think is something that's blown way out of proportion by guys that don't own one. I think the Challenger is decent looking, but obviously I think the SS is way better looking lol. I had a Charger before and honestly it had too many problems including pulling out almost the entire interior including dash to fix some electrical gremlin. Of course once I got it back it was all creaks n groans ugh nightmare. IMO that's Dodge's biggest problem. Reliability. You hear it from guys that own em so if you wanna plop down a ton of cash that's all you lol.
Ray Rocco well, I can tell you why they choose the Charger cruisers over the Taurus it because it's bigger. I'm a cop and our agency has Taurus, Explorers and the remaining Crown Vic's. I still have a Crown Vic (thank god lol). The Taurus is ok for smaller guys, but way too small for bigger guys. Plus the trunk isn't huge and my friends that have them have trunks stuffed to near overflowing. There have been no chronic issues with them mechanically. I wish they were bigger because all striped up they look cool. For most agencies these decisions on manufacturers are made by city hall. We wanted to go with Tahoe's, but they got slightly less mpg than the Explorer (not too mention that now GM has jacked the price on them and even agencies nearby that were buying them aren't anymore). Don't think that police departments can just say this is what we are getting cuz it doesn't work that way. I still remember the Chevy Impala (the previous smaller ones) fiasco with ours where they shoved em down our throats because they got better mpg than the Crown Vic. After cycling some in it quickly became apparent that they were much too small, too slow and issues where cages weren't fitting well where you could reach an arm through them lol. So they stopped getting them and had to yank ones one the street, remove the cages and issue them to sgt's and detectives. All politics man.
Ray Rocco thank you. Like I said, I don't have a choice in what cruiser I get. Chargers aren't in widespread use in my area although the highway patrol contracted for em. I've had a Charger and a Ram truck in the last 15 years and both had lots of problems. People I know have Chargers and Challengers and they've all got their share too. My buddy has a newer Ram truck and he's not really had any issues with that. Don't get me wrong, the classic Mopars of the late 60s early 70s are my favorite classic muscle cars, but it'll be a long time til I buy a newer Dodge car that's for sure lol. A lot of 80s n 90s GMs sucked (I've had an early 80s Z28 and an early 90s Firebird that both had lots of issues), but this 17 Camaro SS I bought a few months ago is tight n right lol. The build quality honestly seems to be as good as the BMW I traded in on it.
Charger? Yea ok. The charger is a paper weight in the race world. And the interior is cheap you get about as much room in the chargers backs seats as you do in a challenger and it weighs more with the same hp which equals slow and the challenger itself is slower than the stock 455 hp Camaro. Love challengers look don't get me wrong but it's definitely the slower of mustang and Camaro. And if you getting a muscle car for looks rather then performance you're a pussy and shouldn't own either specially if you getting them for space and comfort. Their race cars not family cars. Smh
@@PsalmMiracle With that logic, people should get used Vettes (C6 Z06 and up) and call it a day. Other than the 2 small butt shelves and an extra inch or 2 of ground clearance, the performance of a 6th gen SS and a base C6 Z51 are quite similar in acceleration and cornering.
i really want either of these 2 cars. Im waiting for the challenger T/A or Camaro SS 1LE. Camaro is a serious track performer that will run laps around a challenger any day all day. But that muscle car spirit of the challenger holds a very special place in my heart, its a straight line warrior, and its much more practical car. its gonna be hard for me to choose :(
Awesome cars. Nice to see a review based more on day to day performance instead of track or canyon carving. Those are great buy for the majority of people buying these they want to drive them often.
@@richgirlappeal Not sure if my reply means anything to you anymore but I'd personally go with the Camaro. While I thinks its slightly uglier, I prefer smaller, lighter cars and I like the tighter interior of the Camaro more than the SUV-like space of the Challenger. With that said, I got a C6 Vette and the a beater hatchback as my combo. Sports car for most days and the hatchback for practicality needs and extreme percipitation
I think it should have been noted that the 6.4L challenger is also available in the Scat Pack variant. The SRT is at a higher price point due to the larger piston brakes, suspension differences, wider wheels and a few more things. Its confusing when you say the challenger is $50k when you can pick up the scat pack for in the high $30k
The styling of the Camaro had always been a favourite for me. The only huge downside for me is its dashboard, I just hate that the instrument panel just 'pops' up out of the dash, its just too bad. I did go and test drove a Challenger srt, and cannot wait to pick it up next week!
Ok so i was thinking about getting my first sports car. I was debating between the challenger and the camero. Im just your everyday driverthat wants something reliable. Which one should i get? Don't be bias tho
I have never heard of the clutch being "stiff" in other Camaro reviews. Also as a side note, GM made the new Camaro as a direct competitor to the M4, C63s AMG, and the RS5. All European sports cars. Don't compare the two as muscle cars, as the Camaro has left that scene and has definitely grown up.
What's funny is they both have the exact same tremec manual transmission in both of them but one shifts like butter...Lol🤣. The old man didn't like the spring on the clutch pedal it is a little stiffer than the Challenger. I got rid of my Challenger because it became rather boring after a year or two. I now own the Camaro 2SS 1LE it's not a cruiser it's a sports car and it hasn't got boring yet! I just go through tires quickly 🤣 $$😢 but so fun 👍
They should've kept it a muscle car. Imo nothing beats a chevy camaro 1967. A true old school classic of the muscle cars. I like the challenger way better because it pays homage to the classic ones.
I don’t now much about pony car do please some one help me out : im looking for a track ,drag and daily driver which would be the better option zl1 gt500 or a challenger?
These cars are legendary! The heritage that comes with these pony cars is stuff of legends! As long as Ford, Chevy, Dodge are around, these types of monsters will keep tearing up the streets!
Is it me or is it that people forget the Corvette has been out much longer and has an extreme racing history? Did they forget the Vette b/c they don't care for it or is it b/c it is in such another class (above) that we don't bother mentioning it amongst the 3 pony/muscle cars?
I also like the challenger more. Just because it's bigger. Performance wise, I would be happy with either. Unfortunately, GM refuses to offer bigger performance cars anymore. Chrysler has about 5 or more models with plenty of room and more than 400hp.
I heard that theres a stereotype when joining the army that you buy either a camero of challenger with the bonus check that comes with an I believe 4 or 5 year contract. So naturally, im checking out my options xD
Might wanna check out for mistakes, in the vid the guy said it's a 2016 challenger. But in stats board, it says 2017. It's a small one of course :p but still for later references
I have a 2019 Challenger R/T. I wish I had a 392, but even the 345 is fun. Both the Camaro and the Challenger are amazing cars, and I will seriously look into the Camaro SS the next time I'm shopping for a car.
Not sure if my reply means anything to you know, but have you considered a used C6 or C7 Vette? In my opinion if you have the space, a used Vette and a beater hatchback would make a great combo all year round. A 6th gen SS is similar to a base C6 but the Vette has more trunk space and is "more special" if you care for that sort of thing
No comparison, I traded in my challenger srt for an SS and haven't looked back. I'm more than satisfied with my camaro. The hardest part for me is not driving it to work and piling up mileage. It's all up to the individual though, one of my partners traded his SS for a 392 ( dumb trade imo) and he loves it.
Challenger 8-speed over the camaro and mustang manual or auto anytime. Maybe when the 10 speed is available for the other two I'll change my mind. Having driven all three the challenger is the more satisfying car.
I purchased a new Camaro SS in 2010 and it felt like I was in a submarine, it had horrible visibility. The new Camaros do not look retro enough either. I love how true the Challenger is to the 1970 model year, and it has WAY better visibility. I will say the Camaro was a thrill to drive with the six speed manual transmission, however, I got rid of it after six months because I just did not like the poor visibility...
I turned away from the SS because they made it a complete sports car. Almost no one will ever take their Camaro on the track. I'd like it if it was a little bit bigger.
ohhhhh I love that Challenger... the 392 SRT is what I want again.... because why spend the EXTRA 20-25 GRAND for the hell cat powertrain........I miss my 2012 SRT.. but the new one.. Ugh GOD my pants are getting warm.....now.. would be nice if I could get a job like you folks have :P
not hating on the dodge but if im looking at 2dr sports cars i want the feel of a sports car that aggressive attack mode feeling if i was looking for comfort then i would just look at sport suv and remember weight does play a role when it comes to racing throwing high hp numbers at a lighter car = win.
Wow that surprises me. The Mopar gets almost 4mpg more than the SS and has 30hp over it , that says a lot for the 3gen hemi mill but especially considering the wt dif. The chally is true to its muscle car roots but both the SS and GT are euro style of cars
Yeah, man. I am a Chevy guy! Peeking at my dad's 69 427 Vette at 5 years old. Always loved Camaros and Firebirds. But they have no idea how to market these cars. Ford's marketing is soooooo good. From the actual advertisements, to their pricing structures, to the value proposition they put their cars together with, Ford Mustangs are always a really good package that balance livability and performance.
Have a Hellcat and drove a ZL1 some, my Hellcat, in a straight line, seeing as how I have a normal job and am not a professional driver, blows the doors off the ZL1.
Gutsy review. I see much hate in the comment thread. On a side note: I had a choice between a Camaro and a Challenger and went with a challenger because it fits taller people better and is a more comfortable daily driver.
Everytime I see one of these drive by I ALWAYS get mixed up and think it's the other. The overall shape is the same. I'm not a car guy btw, I can never tell the difference with these
A challenger is a beast as long as it's not racing a Camaro or mustang or BMW. Other than that the only thing a challenger smokes is mustang's and astronauts.
A challenger is a beast as long as it's not racing a Camaro or mustang or BMW. Other than that the only thing a challenger smokes is Honda's and astronauts.
Blake Swan I tested the manual and loved it, but opted for the auto. My heart wanted the stick, but I've had surgeries on both shoulders and my back from injuries and had to think that over time, or if had more problems it could be a problem driving a lot with manual. Sometimes you gotta compromise I guess. I will say that auto in the SS is a good one. Buy what you like and enjoy it.
The auto in the new SS in simply fantastic. Extremely fast, feels great using the paddles. Faster in a straight line than the manual. And the ZL1 A10 is even faster... which is crazy and awesome.
I rarely saw a challenger in the 70's it was always a Camaro it was really America's choice it was back then and still is today who cares about visibility reduction on the Camaro you have 2 side mirrors rear Camera assistance if you can't see with these you shouldn't be driving.
I can appreciate that Chevy did do a good job making the Camaro look good. But to me I just couldn’t justify driving one, something about it just doesn’t let me take it seriously
6gens not that much faster then srt and this video shouldve compared the lighter scatpack challenger vs 6gen camaro srt more like the Mercedes of dodge scatpack is the one that sacrifice comfort for speed
The gen6 SS is an outstanding Sports car, & the SRT Challenger is a Drip Sexy Pure American Muscle Car..both cars are bad ass at what they do

Gutsy review. I see much hate in the comment thread.
On a side note: I had a choice between a Camaro and a Challenger and went with a challenger because it fits taller people better and is a more comfortable daily driver.
good choice
Everytime I see one of these drive by I ALWAYS get mixed up and think it's the other. The overall shape is the same. I'm not a car guy btw, I can never tell the difference with these
You're bugging bro, the challenger is a much bigger car
Alright I was gonna buy a camaro but this video changed my mind now I want a challenger
Challenger is where it's at
Wtf that young minded generation. The older guy understands the autos are faster and better now. And younger guy saying no.
Maybe manuals are more fun?
looking retro? nope they just didn't evolve with the design, but some like that 70's look apparently
They will Evolve in 2018--2019 !!!!! Dodge Gonna kick some Ass !!!!!
Love that SRT... The exact one I eventually want... 6.4L NA 6MT... Gorgeous!!!
The Challenger is a beast
A challenger is a beast as long as it's not racing a Camaro or mustang or BMW. Other than that the only thing a challenger smokes is mustang's and astronauts.

You might want to check those highway fuel economy specs.
They're in L/100km not MPG
comparing performance cars for anything other but their performance is ridiculous...
Not true 99% of people don't want to drive a track car day 2 day they just aren't as comfy...
An auto? How old is that guy?
They forgot to mention How much more sexy the Challenger looks then the camaro. Camaro is nice looking but challenger is easily the Sexiest
You guys have the city to highway mileage backwards in the beginning.
I rarely saw a challenger in the 70's it was always a Camaro it was really America's choice it was back then and still is today who cares about visibility reduction on the Camaro you have 2 side mirrors rear Camera assistance if you can't see with these you shouldn't be driving.
“Who cares about visibility reduction” 😂😂😂 just fuck everybody else on the road huh? Who cares if I can’t see them, I look cool.... 🤡
I hate these videos where they compare muscle cars without racing them vs eachother. 🤨😑
challenger all day
I have a 2018 camero 1 ss it’s amazing car never could go to another car 💯🙏🏽✅
I can appreciate that Chevy did do a good job making the Camaro look good. But to me I just couldn’t justify driving one, something about it just doesn’t let me take it seriously
It's a serious performance machine....all of the 6th gen Camaros are serious.
All this debating but at the end of the day nobody even notices a Camaro when there's a Challenger present.
other way around buddy
I chose a Camaro anytime over a challenger It has more style and alot sharper Ss2 is a badass car over any car Thank you
Even a v6 would eat a Prius for breakfast
Came here for sweet comments and came to find a bunch of people shit talking camaro
*camero
As soon as he said the automatic is the way to go, i turned off the video, lol.
So in other words the 6th gen is just too ahead of the challenger lmao.
6gens not that much faster then srt and this video shouldve compared the lighter scatpack challenger vs 6gen camaro srt more like the Mercedes of dodge scatpack is the one that sacrifice comfort for speed
The Camaro front end looks squished.
That exely what my big sister camaro it red.its a v8.its a 2017 camaro.
Automatic because you have to think of comfort? It's a fire breathing 450hp sports coupe and track car.. if you want comfort buy a Cadillac CTS-V.
Craig Tschirhart for nearly 100k, I think not lol I'll just wait for the hellcat jeep for that price
My mistake, ATS-V.. similar price and horsepower to the camaro.
You can have the caddy
hey Driving.ca
Fuel consumption is the other way around!
