I just wanted to say that low porosity shampoo & conditioner a No. I brought the oil which I like as it smells good too. Whoever the owner is need to run me my money back or just send me two bottles of the oil. I took it to my hairstylist she even was like No. Then I tried later at home. It still was a No and a WHY. 4c low porosity

Hi Tonya! First I wanted to say thank you for this channel and your videos. You, Green Beauty, and WholeElise are pretty much the only hair care RUclipsrs I ACTIVELY follow. As I've been watch a few of you videos about oils and grease, a though popped into my head, "What about using lard or tallow on the hair or in recipes?" I know most people gravitate toward plant-based sources, but I'm a believer in using all of an item. If the animal died to feed my family, we should honor it by using all parts of it that we can. In you "Secret Life of Oils" (?) video you mention saturated fats and monounsaturated fats as being good for our hair... if I'm remembering properly. When I looked up lard it was made up of 85% saturated and monounsaturated fats. I also remember using it as a hair grease as a child as well as to treat wounds and stuff. I was just wondering if there is a place for it in hair care too?

I did search and destroy and realized it was hopeless and had to cut it all off. Bottom line- avoid search and destroy because feeling for the knots creates them when your hair is prone to them. I’m happy to have the chance to start over.

You've good points and I get where you're going ... I would just tie the "loose ends":
    1) define single strand knots first,
    2) then causes of the knots ... which automatically ties in with prevention,
    3) then, how to resolve the already existing knots.
    From the presentation:
    1) how does "pre-pooing and detangling" before shampooing prevent the knots (I, would tie this in with the "shampooing technique" thereafter),
    2) how do "oil rinses" prevent knots ... doesn't "conditioner" also contain "oil" ... as well as the rest of the "styling products" thereafter,
    3) is there no friction at "ends" of "twisted hair" when sleeping ... or on clothes, or when "fluffing" (I, would focus more on position of "ends"),
    4) do "protein treatments" resolve "split ends", causes of "split ends", "friction"... and how?

I tried oil rinsing for the first time on my last hair wash date. It is a game changer. Usually when I finish detangling on side of my hair, the other section is dry and I will have to wet it again. With oil rinsing I didn't have to re-wet my hair again. My hair was soft and easy to manage. I have high porosity 4c strands that loves to wrap around each other. I mixed babassu oil with castor oil.

My daughter gets them fairly often. I can't do oil rinses- I need to put moisturizer before I put oil, or her hair will be so dry. I can't protein treat because her hair is protein sensitive. I don't pre-poo because she has fine strands and I try to detangle as little as popsicle. That leaves me with search and destroy 😓.

I do the search and destroy method and it just takes me so long..it’s depressing. I want to accept them but my hair just breaks wherever the knot forms. I was never one to put honey on my hair so, I decided to get over my phobia and I melted some honey and shea butter and added it to the henna I was using to condition my hair. My hair is on the thinner side so after I wash it, I have to keep spritzing it with water because it dries out (horribly) before I can finish doing my protective style. Let me tell you!! My hair was so darn moisturized from the honey/shea butter! It was so shiny and healthy looking, and I was able to do all my twist without any spritzing. I didn't have to use anything but my fingers to detangle because it wasn't very tangled at all. Even if I am not going to do a henna, I have decided to add warm honey & shea butter to any conditioner. I couldn't go past a mirror without looking at my hair. I didn't recognize it.

Finger detangling before shampooing. No products maybe a light water spray if my hair feel super dry but that’s unlikely (for me) because I wash my hair every week. I pull my hair vertically first the in a downward motion to remove my shedded hair. Shampoo and conditioner is definitely easier and quicker. You can also use the pressure of the water to detangle if you don’t want to prepoo or dry detangle. Meaning spend a little more time when you wet your hair prior applying your shampoo and start finger detangling. That would also give your hair time to get more hydration.

My favorite product that I detangle with is my Aloe Vera oil that I make and the Garnier Whole Blends Conditioner line because it has Aloe Vera in it. And the The TGIN Miracle Repairx Protective Leave-in conditioner Yes!!! Everything you say is so true. I have already incorporated these methods. Oil rinses are a game changer for me. On your recommendation I started using oil rinses. All winter long I did oil rinses. It moisturized and kept my hair so soft and manageable. Plus it grows the hair as well. I also do a pre-poo every time I was my hair. I notice since doing the oil rinses I don't get any fairy knots. All these tips work. As long as you are consistent with your hair routine. And at night when I set my hair. It's in twist. I just put my hair up and use my silk scarf. Love all of your amazing videos. Thank you for sharing Curly Chemistry! Sending you, Curly Chemistry and everyone here love and light.🥰🥰

My favorites are Oyin’s Oh My Glide and African Pride’s Aloe & Coconut water. First I spray my hair with water mixed with Kinky Curly Knot Today then detangle with a gloved hand. I have fine, coils strands that will tangle and fairy knot because I wear a wash n go 98% of the time.

When I wear my hair out I wrap it at night then put a scarf/bonnet & comb my hair out the next day from ends to roots so it won't knot up plus it helps my sebum distribute all over my strands.

I accidentally left a piece of hair out a got 3 fairy knots just from that little piece. Your hair will also split right before the knot as well so be careful.
I'm gonna try one of those split end trimmers as well

This is great! I feel like fairy knots have singlehandedly been the restriction of my best hair growth. I do search and destroy a lot probably too much because I don't do the other things on the list as much. I think I will add in the oil rinsing. The My Black is Beautiful line of products has been great for detangling during my wash and conditioning process with a wide tooth comb. Thanks so much!

What I do to prevent fairy knots is too always keep my hair stretched. I never let it shrink. And also when I take down my hair from protective style I don’t wet my hair because I feel like if I wet it or I use conditioner I get those knots instead I coat my hair in oil and take it down. Since I’ve been doing it I’ve noticed less knots. (sorry for my English)

I wash my hair in mini twists. It has made my wash days easier. Detangling is usually at deep conditioning.
After prepping at the beginning isn't it too much oil to also oil rinse at the end. Won't this get in the way of the hair retaining moisture?

I don't have the luxury of time so, I just section my hair into 4 places and shampoo with the technique I learnt from Afrikanhairgod then use my conditioner to detangle which is extremely slippery and this has helped so far.
I just took 3-4 inches from my hair which has also helped with detangling.
Hair Doc, how have you been?💖

Hi there Curly Chemist 🤗I'd like to know, apart from the others causes of fairy knots, let's say my cuticles are lifted up/ opened and end up linking up with the others hairs/cuticles...
Why is it that those same "opened" or "lifted" cuticles dont seem to be actually opened as I experience dry dry dry hair and when I moisturize my hair, the product only seems to sit on my strands and not absorb into my strands...
Please help in this regard 😩🤒
Will be waiting on your response ❤❤
