I often wonder where he'd be today. Like so many "big" actors known for their comedic roles, John's comedy belied a lot of emotional potential, and he wanted to branch out into more serious roles. John was Uncle Buck to so many, and I formed a huge bond with him at a very young age. SCTV was filmed in Edmonton, Alberta where I live, and it was always something special seeing the same streets I walked, shared by this wonderful, talented man. I always suggest checking out the SCTV aired mockumentary "The Last Polka" with John Candy, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, and Rick Moranis. Available for free on RUclips, it's hysterically funny and poignant. I miss John Candy dearly, and there will never be another one like him.
I love your take on Tia. She is a teenager who felt like her parents ignored not only her, but what she wanted. Buck not only showed her that he was someone who cared for her, and would watch out for her, but that just because he was enforcing discipline doesn't mean that he was the bad guy. He didn't take her shit and stood his ground against the remarks and tantrums. Something I don't thinkk she had seen before.
All kids want is for adults to take their concerns seriously and treat them like human beings - especially teenagers. Parents ramble on about respect, but that’s only because they’re in a position of authority. It’s not based on their actions or behaviour. It’s about power.
This is probably my favorite John Candy movie. I love this character and the interplay between Buck and the kids. And wow, Buck's little monologue to the dog is really poignant.
@@thot717those are not his better movies. Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Only the Lonely and Cool Runnings are among his best, along with Uncle Buck. I really enjoyed Summer Rental though.
I absolutely love how protective he is of the kids even the teenage daughter who is being a beast to him. lol Just a great feel good movie. Always love your reactions, your the best!!
John Candy. He wasn't just on the TV, it was like he was there visiting or something. The perfect Everyman. A humble, real, and nice guy superstar - flawed and in the struggle like the rest of us. He's missed.
1. Many say Planes Trains and Automobiles but I say this was his best. 2. Of course it's Chicago. This is a John Hughes film. 3. Macaulay Culkin got the "Home Alone" gig because Landis loved him in this. 4. That's the same High School used by Hughes for "The Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Beuller's Day Off". 5. Making a stack of pancakes that big would take A LOT of work. 🙄(and money) 6. Tell me you didn't enjoy this. I dare you 😁
Man, it's hard to pick between Uncle Buck and P,T,aA for Candy's best performance. I totally get either choice. I would probably lean P,T,aA just because of the dramatic notes he gets to play throughout the film. He gets some of them here, of course, as well. But you know which scenes I'm talking about. They're amazing, and to me, are pretty much what make the movie a classic.
Leo, most people initially think TIa is a bratty little teenager when first seeing this film. I did when I was a kid lol. It is very insightful that your first reaction was to realize that she is acting out. That was not my first thought.
I was thinking the same thing! Most first time reactors miss that completely and Leo nailed it with her reacting to someone giving her love and attention for the first time.
This movie was iconic then and is still iconic. I love everything John is in, but this is probably my favorite. Who's Harry Crumb is pretty good, and The Great Outdoors. Also, can't forget Cool Runnings!
True Story: John Hughes liked Macaulay Culkin so much in this movie he basically wrote the first Home Alone movie specifically for Macaulay Culkin to be even more Macaulay Culkin.
I have an uncle or two that are kind of like Uncle Buck. Very rough around the edges, but down to earth and will drop everything for family. This movie, above all others, makes me miss John Candy so much. It gives me the same vibes as Robin William's Mrs. Doubtfire. He just comes across as the kind of person you always wish you had in your corner. I'm glad you liked it.
John Candy was one of the best! Gotta watch The Great Outdoors, Plane, Trains and Automobiles, Armed and Dangerous, Summer Rental, Who's Harry Crumb and although he didn't have a big part, he was also in Splash with Tom Hanks!!
I am 46 and this is still one of my favorite movies! I used to be that daughter, but now l can see it from the mom's side! John Candy was a comedic legend! ❤️❤️❤️
Love and miss John Candy! As a kid I always wanted someone to make me uncle Buck's birthday pancakes. 😂🥞 You need to watch The Great Outdoors.. John Candy and Dan Aykroyd are hilarious together! Since you like Macaulay Culkin be sure to watch him in his first thriller film 'The Good Son' which also stars Elijah Wood. You'll be blown away by his performance!
I had an Uncle who actually accidentally walked into the neighbors house thinking it was ours he was halfway up the stairs when he realized it was the wrong house.. he never been to our house before
You definitely need to watch Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. It's one of my favorite John Candy movies. It's also the only Thanksgiving movie that I know.
John Candy is my childhood, such a great, talented actor. Gone too soon. I recently visited his burial inside a church in L.A. and spoke at his crypt about how he was my childhood, and he continues to make me laugh, even as much as he did when I was a kid, especially Uncle Buck. After I returned to my hometown, Uncle Buck out of nowhere was on T.V. at the part where I told him a ''mouse and Sheetmetal'' scene was stuck in my head. I guess maybe he heard what I said because they don't play Uncle Buck on T.V. as much where I'm from. Crazy cool Coincidence. Glad you enjoyed this iconic classic film of his.
This is one of my all time favorites....my own uncle was and is a lot like this so I kinda have my own uncle buck ....John candy was a GOAT and I still miss him...... ps no one has mentioned stripes, John candy, Bill Murray, harlod Ramis and many others check it out really funny lol
MAN, I've been watching your Channel for years now I think THANK YOU FOR REACTING TO THIS MOVIE IT'S A FAVORITE OF MINE I GREW UP WATCHING! UNCLE BUCK IS COOL! ROCK AND ROLL MR. VIDEO!
When I saw John Candy it reminded me of another movie you could watch, I think it's called "The great outdoors" and I can't wait for your Transformers: Dark of the moon and The amazing Spider-Man reactions!
I'm glad you finally got to see this gem. Been in my yearly watch list since it came out. Makes me laugh, still, and a little sad that my loved ones that watched it with me are gone. Thank you for sharing and bringing about some good memories. 🐾🐾
John Candy and John Hughes are gold on screen! Still hoping for a reaction of Airheads with Brendan Fraser, Steve Buscemi and Adam Sandler or Club Dread with the dude from Super Troopers!
Thanks for watching Uncle Buck. It's always a movie you can watch anytime. Still got my eye on you for all your reactions and you make me laugh so hard. Love ya Leo. 👏😄🔥
John Candy's masterpiece, in my opinion, is "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" with Steve Martin. It would be a great film for you to react to when it gets closer to Thanksgiving.
Man there was only one John Candy, he was basically the entire world's big, fun uncle, in my opinion when he died and Chris Farley died there was an irreparable hole made in comedy. It looks like you've gotten a lot of suggestions for more John Candy movies so yeah watch em all because he's awesome and deserves to be remembered, Here's another suggestion that isn't a John Candy movie, but kind of has a good mix of feel good and comedy like Uncle Buck and I haven't seen anyone react to it yet, it's called Captain Ron, starring Kurt Russel and Martin Short, you should definitely check it out.
In an interview, John Candy’s daughter said that Uncle Buck was basically how he acted at home, RIP John Candy
I read that interview online 😁
God, I miss John Candy! ❤️😔

@@Psilocybin77 Do you mean "The Last Polka" from 1985?
SCTV alumnus.
omg yes, thank you! The Last Polka which is a homage to the documentary, The Last Waltz.
Had he have lived longer he would have had an amazing Voice over career as well as his acting career. I loved him in the rescuers down under
Everyone should have an Uncle Buck. RIP, John Candy, you were all heart.
John was my boy. Loved this guy. Shame hes gone. Thank you for watching and keeping his memory alive.
Both Johns.
If you haven't watched Plains, Trains, and Automobiles, you have to. It's another John Candy classic.
The freeze frame of Candy at the end makes me tear up every time. Candy was the best.

John Candy gave an incredible performance as uncle buck RIP you legend 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
John Candy had a reputation for being one of the kindest, sweetest, most genuine celebrities of his time. I have no doubt it was true.❤
Although Macaulay Culkin and John Candy weren't directly in a scene, it was so great to see them in Home Alone together essentially. Rest in Peace.
One of our Canadian treasures ❤️

@@JeffKelly03 My "issue" with PT&A is that as well as he played the character Steve Martin's character was a huge turn off. Just sayin'
OKAY IMDB THANKS
John Hughes, Robert Zemeckis, John Landis, Stephen Spielberg and George Lucas were the quintessential filmmakers in the 80s and early 90s.
Impossible to believe it's been 30 years today.
RIP John Franklin Candy (10/31/50-3/4/94)
Owned this on VHS, still in moms attic somewhere I’m sure, but must’ve watched this a million times growing up. One of my childhood faves for sure
