I think it’s because he’s not a super talented actor. Great standup is rehearsed ad-nauseum and then made to look as though it’s the first time it’s ever performed. Ricky’s never been the best at that. But his in-the-moment piss-taking is second to none. As is his enjoyment of Karl’s working-class profundity.
