When in Rome. While tipping is not common in Europe, I can’t help but notice, in my business travels, when they serve Americans the servers expect a tip and don’t turn them down.

@@jameretief8327 Why would you turn down a tip? In Europe it's not needed but not always unexpected. In fact, in Europe you tip out of courtesy but not necessity. Doesn't mean tou don't tip over there, you just aren't required to.

@@PaddyRoon7 Its only big in America, but Canada as well. If you go anywhere in Quebec there is instantly, 20% added to your bill. The rest of Canada and as far as I know, America is similar. In every other province other than Quebec & America, the servers make LESS than minimum wage. They reily on tips to make due.
Here where I live, is $14.25 min wage an hour, servers get $11/hr.
Your tips as well as going to the servers to make up for their shitty wage, also goes to the kitchen staff. Assuming the restaurent has a good manager.
Kitchen staff in Europe/England are generally better paid than those in the same jobs, in North America.

I don’t want things too loud because I’m trying to sleep so to hear Karl on some episodes it’s at a level where Ricky is incredibly loud!
It’s a fine line between hearing Karl and getting the arse scared out of you by a sudden Ricky cackle. Gotta be so careful

Honestly I’m with Karl on the tip story. I’m American and the tip system is awful, mainly because it’s a gray area and no one is consistent about it. Plenty of people won’t leave a dime and yet you’ll have generous people leaving 25% of their entire bill. On top of that, the idea of the waiter running back to give Karl the tip back is just rude and insulting. It’s not Karl’s fault we have this system in place, the waiter was an entitled brat. If you’re going to work that job, you have to expect that some patrons won’t leave a tip. At least he tried. Most service jobs would fire you over that kind of behavior

Tips are given because of business owners paying wait staff like $2-$3 per hour. I do think its shit they put the salary on the backs of customers, but some people need to get over it. Cooks barely get tips, if ever.

Karl, the poor waiter only makes 3 dollars an hour. (Which is actually well below the minimum wage required by law for all other jobs in America. It’s a ridiculous law)The guy cleaning tables makes 3 times as much if not more. Waiters very much rely on tips. Giving 60p is like spitting in his face. That’s why he took the trouble to find you and give it back. It’s an insult.

Wonder why a western country would make it legal to not pay people proper wages, but instead let restaurant owners put the customers i a pseudo employer relationship with their waiters, all so they don't have to pay their own employees.

Yes, tips are a dumb idea. That doesn't make it ok to avoid giving them. It isn't like your protest is going to change anything. All you will succeed in doing is living off of what *other* people paid. (The servers probably wouldn't be able to afford to work their without tips, so the decent tippers are paying for the shitty ones.)
I kind of agree with Karl that America gets on my nerves. Really only the past 4 years though, all I've heard on the news is Trump being stupid and his legion of idiots defending him until their last breath, really makes you sick of the fact America exists.
Hopefully they can quiet down a bit this year so I can go back to not minding them.
