Hi there, I've been maintaining my own vehicles for over 30 yrs. I have experienced a few rounded off bolts/nuts, in hard-to-reach places. The set in this video, is not a true bolt extractor. The difference is a true bolt extractor, have spiral Reverse flutes on the inside. These Reverse spiral flutes get narrow as they travel to the bottom of the socket. This helps the bolt extractor to bit into the metal, as torque is applied to it. Sometimes, you have to tap the bolt extractor onto the bolt/nut, so it can bite into the metal to be removed. The tool in this video has vertical flutes only, which means they will not bite into the metal as torque is applied. This tool will not work on high torqued or rusted automotive bolts/nuts.
@@jurj97You are correct but this is not the most effective design for bolt removal. Being bi-directional comes at a cost, where it does not bite as well as a bolt extractor that cuts in as torque is applied in one direction. As Pk3_Garage mentioned these will not work well for highly torqued or extremely rusted bolts. Stick to the true bolt extractors in this situation.
Bought the first 8 piece set by mistake from Acme in July & decided to keep & try them. To my amazement, they work well, & glad for my happy accident purchase. Picked up another 8 piece set from Acme for $42.49 for my brothers-in-law (he just got his first impact 6 days ago💪🏼, he’s a DeWalt fan; but hey...we all can’t be perfect now can we😉🤣🤣). I call them “Back Biter” instead of Bolt Biter for some weird reason 🤪; & now I’ve got the whole family calling them Back Biter sockets 🤣. Great Video, see ya on the next one👊🏼
I wouldn’t use them for anything else you need these to be sharp inside to grapill be getting a set soon just finished removing one striped out seat bolt the old fashioned way drilling the center out and tapping in the extraction pins got lucky 1 1/2 hr later it came out
Yeah bro, understand just what you mean. I think if you a mechanic or in the automotive/body work line of work they would be great to have on hand, but a one of job you could order and have sent in less than two days.
I tried everything to remove a rounded off locking wheel nut, in the end I removed it easily with Halfords Laser sockets, two sockets with tapered left hand thread, removes nuts/bolts from 17 to 23.
How do you think these will perform on aluminum external screws? I have a stripped screw on my car and I’m considering these sockets... I’m just afraid that it will make the problem worse because it’s aluminum

I am going to have to get those. I've been looking at them. I am an Apex/gear wrench fan. They really think their products through. I just didn't think they would work. This is mind blowing. Those go both directions! Awesome. Way better then other versions I've seen for just reverse. You can make your own security bolts.
Yeah both ways Adam which I found really cool 👊

Hexagonal = 6
I’m impressed. These can essentially replace sockets right? I mean they go both directions and aren’t made for extracting only right?
Yeah case. They go both ways so technically you could use them as a regular socket set bro
I wouldn’t use them for anything else you need these to be sharp inside to grapill be getting a set soon just finished removing one striped out seat bolt the old fashioned way drilling the center out and tapping in the extraction pins got lucky 1 1/2 hr later it came out
The Channellock 410 and the larger 414 work extremely well on rounded fasteners.
Wow..impressive!! Dont deal with bolts that are rounded off often, but may buy them for that project when you get stuck. Very cool socket.

I assume you know you had the channel locks on backwards to unscrew. They are kind of like pipe wrenches, you have to put them on the right direction.
First off using a 12 point socket is the cause of rounded off bolts that s why you should be using 6 point sockets on hex head bolts
I normally do not do these gimmicky tooks however, I would try them because they are Gearwrench. Good luck with their tools in the past..

What about if bolt is rusted and torqued on very tight?
Does it damage the bolt afterwards
All well and good, but what about in extremely tight spaces, like the upper bolt on a Power Steering Bracket, hardly any working room up in there?
