  • Meet Courtenay. A true inspiration to all mothers around the world. A mother of six children, one of her children, Demar, was just five months old when she contracted meningitis, leaving her unable to walk or talk. Her parents were told she'd never survive, but to Courtenay and her husband Matetu, they deemed that unacceptable. Today, they are now celebrating Demar's 21st birthday. This family live full on but with love and communication, they get past the daily struggles to make family life work.
In this inspirational and uplifting series, discover how children living with mental and physical disabilities live life to the full with the help of their families. My Perfect Family celebrates the fantastic parents who raise their children with a creative, pragmatic and positive attitude.

This video is from years ago.
    Demar is 28-years old now.
There are a couple newer videos with Courtenay and Demar, and some NZ magazine and news articles, although not any widely available over the last-few years.
I have followed Courtenay for years.
She is a very, very special and beloved woman.

Yes, affording the cost for a group home setting is a challenging topic to discuss but it is needed because the parents can't take care of her forever, due to their own advanced ages in the future. To have a great place to visit their child is important to because then they know she is in good hands if she outlives them.

Amazing job mama, hope your fam always stay strong ❤
But I amnot actually okey with the title, my mom has some reason that she couldn’t be by my side through my childhood but to me, she’s still a true definition of MOM due to her affection and her support for me 😊

That’s a crappy thing to say!! Have more empathy. Anyone can have a disabled child. Watch what you say, you or a family member could end up with a special needs child!

Contracting a disease like meningitis has nothing to do with genes…
