  • Meet Britain's Most Hated Big Family. The Hamlins. The dad works while the mum stays at home, budgeting fiercely to help keep the family afloat. They've got 12 children and have come to the terms with the fact it was their decision and want to take responsibility for all of them. However, they do still collect child support and working family tax credits. Neither of them ahs ever claimed income support., disability benefit or housing benefit. They'd like for their children to have a good example growing up and not think everything is giving to you in life. They pay for everything themselves and to save money they buy in bulk and don't spend anything on something that isn't a necessity!
However, all of this leads to a lot of media attention. The media are determined to portray large families as people who sponge from the government. The media claim that families like the Hamlin's have only had numerous children so that they don't have to work.

Not to mention the Dad should be equally responsible for their cost whether he lives with them or not. Then you have to consider that he is the one who wanted the big family in the first place, and he's the one who cheated on benefits. Where is your outrage at him? We knew Roy Han when he was small, and lived in Aberdeenshire. His father has a big law firm now. They used to live on a farm in Blamedie called Eggie Farm, and the father - George Han, used to fix my Dad's car, so we went out there a few times. I remember they had chickens and a goat, and the goat got loose (probably due to us teasing it) it started eating all the strawberries. We had such fun with Nathan, Roy, Virginia and I think there was another one on the way, before George finished at University, and the family moved back down to Newcastle. It is good to see Roy again, as an adult. Hoping Julie and George are doing well, along with all their grown up children.

Absolutely, children are precious and if they are loved, respected, well looked after, and given the attention they deserve, that's all that matters. However, allowing your 15 year old child to go out with boys without understanding that she *will* get pregnant, is *dumb* , and *irresponsible* . Every child deserves the proper care and opportunities to grow and develop into an adult.

I love seeing how my love exists within each household. My dad is from England, and his parents were from Scotland. My mother is African American. It was at some point in high school, when some of my cheerleading peers took note of how awkwardly I looked when I went in for a hug (we had to hug 2-3 football players each week during football season to drop off their good luck signs we designed). I was awkward because I really had not been used to any form of physical contact and affection from my family. And the same is true for other ways family extend their love toward one another. Now, my mother told me the family is the way it is because British people aren’t affectionate, don’t communicate, etc. And for a long time I really believed that. However, every time I see a British family in a documentary, I see unquestionable expressions of love, adoration, gratitude, and a longing to maintain closeness when children grow up and leave home. So I am not sure I really buy the idea of it being the norm that Brits are cold and distant. Can any Brits weigh in on this?

Rest assured we are not cold, dismissive or uncaring, we might appear so at a first introduction, beyond that not so. I believe the older generation might be stand offish, it was how they were brought up. If a problem arises we deal with it, we don't have time for the drama😊

Having that many kids is irresponsible and selfish imo. My parents were baby hoarders, I'm one of 9 (they told us they had so many kids because they loved babies and when we grew older they had to replace us with another baby). My dad worked three jobs out of state to provide for us, we only saw him on the weekends so our mom was essentially a single mother. The older girls had to help raise the younger siblings, which put a lot of strain on us as we were children ourselves. My mom lived in survival mode, neither of our parents were consistently emotionally and physically present for us and even tho we had our basic needs provided, food, clothing and shelter, we didn't get our emotional/psychological needs met which scarred us for life. It's not possible to give that many children enough of your time and attention for them to develop into healthy functional adults, there's just no way that's possible, even with two involved parents. Having herds of children also puts a strain on the marriage/relationship, finances (even if you're wealthy), health etc. It goes against nature to raise children on an assembly line, it's not fair to them.

To say any family " is the most hated big family" is unconscionable !
It has been getting away from family, family values, taking care of each other, sharing, enjoying the simple things in life...that has brought this world a lot of grief with the type of people it has perpetuated!

The radfords did claim benefits from 1989 up until 2011 they were claiming £68,000 per year as noel claimed he worked part time 16 hours a week so they were entitled to tax credits and child benefit but then the the benefit cap came into place and they were only entitled to £22,000 so he then started working full time an not long after they appeared on channel 5

Yes noel radford started a pie business but only worked part time so he was still entitled to child tax credits and child benefit of £68,000 per year but the government brought in the the 2 child cap in 2012 an the maximum they could claim was £22,000
