@iggy_bunny Me, a Westerner who's been a Xiyouji fan since 2018 & watched PLENTY of Chinese/Japanese Adaptations & hyped for this Game's release since it was initially announced back in 2020: "Sobbing with Tears of Absolute Joy hearing this PERFECT Rendition of the Song"
For those who don't know what the animation is about, this is a flashback recap of Journey to the West in reverse. - 1:20 [Chapter 100]: After bringing the sutra back to the Land of the East (China), Sun Wukong, Sanzang, and the others pilgrims completed the Journey to the West and thus were granted Buddhahood by Tathagata Buddha. Wukong became the Victorious Fighting Buddha. - 1:38 [Chapter 99]: The pilgrims successfully received all the sutras from Tathagata Buddha from the Spirit Mountain (India) and brought them back to The Land of the East. However, during the trip, they were thrown off in the middle of the Heaven-Crossing River as their final trial, since they failed to make the promise with the Great White Turtle (back then in chapter 49) to ask the Buddha about his cultivations and future. When the pilgrims fell into the river, all the sutras were wet and some were torn, thus making them imperfect (as natural as heaven and earth). - 1:57 [Chapter 87]: The pilgrims saved the Phoenix-Immortal District from a heavy drought by completing 3 trials created by the Jade Emperor of the Celestial Heaven. - 2:06 [Chapter 78-79]: The pilgrims crossed the Kingdom of Bhiksu, where children were captured to create an elixir for a sickened king, as advised by the White Deer Spirit who disguised as an elderly Taoist (appeare in 2:12) as well as the king’s father-in-law. - 2:14 [Chapter 74-77]: The pilgrims passed Lion-Camel Ridge, where they encountered 3 Yaoguai kings, the White Elephant King, the Azure Lion King, and the Golden-winged Great Roc King. This was probably one of the hardest trials that Sun Wukong has ever faced, and the Tathagata Buddha had to directly help him. - 2:21 [Chapter 67]: The pilgrims crossed Tuolue Village and saved them from a giant Python Demon. - 2:39 [Chapter 62-63]: The pilgrims crossed The Sacrifice Kingdom, where the Nine-Headed Beast had stolen a Buddhist Sarira. Wukong, and Bajie had to fight the beast, and they even invited Erlang to support them in killing it. - 2:35 [Chapter 56-58]: Wukong confronted the Six-Eared Macaque, who disguised himself as the fake Wukong to steal his identity. Even all the celestial gods and Buddhas across three realms were unable to identify which one was the true Wukong, except the Tathagata Buddha. - 2:43 [Chapter 50-52]: Wukong and the pilgrims faced the Single-Horned Rhinoceros King, who was able to use a magical diamond armlet to steal all the weapons that Wukong, Bajie, Neiza, and the Celestial army had brought to fight him, even the very abstracted weapons like fire or water. Only the Supreme Exalted Laozi was able to subdue the Rhinoceros King, his personal riding green bull. It turned out the diamond armlet had been used to subdue Wukong when he fought with Erlang in chapter 6 (during the Havoc on Heaven). - 2:47 [Chapter 44-46]: The pilgrims crossed the Cart-Slow Kingdom, where they encountered three Taoist magicans, Tiger Power Great Immortal, Elk Power Great Immortal, and Antelope Power Great Immortal, who were also the royal advisors. These Taoist magicians challenged the pilgrims into a contest of summoning rains, chopping heads, cutting open abdomens, or even bathing in boiling oil. - 2:51[Chapter 40-42]: The pilgrims approached Mount Roaring, where they encountered Crimson Boy, the son of Bull Demon King. Facing the Fire of Samadhi, Wukong almost died from all the smoke, wind, and flames (mainly smoke; the probably only weakness Wukong ever had) if Bajie hadn't saved him with his Heavenly spell of healing. - 2:56 [Chapter 27-33]: The pilgrims faced White Bone Ghost-lady, who transformed into a young village girl, an old woman, and an elderly man to trick the pilgrims. Wukong successfully killed her after the third time, but Sanzang was tricked into believing that Wuking had murdered innocent people and thus banished him away. Later on, Sanzang was captured by Yellow-Robed Yaoguai in the Precious-Image Kingdom, and Bajie had to invite Wukong back to save him again. - 3:06 [Chapter 24-26] The pilgrims arrived at Five Village Abbey, Long Life Mountain, where The Great Immortal Zhenyuan (who is the patriarch of all Earth's Immortals in Taoist) presented Sanzang with some Ginseng Fruits, a baby-shaped fruit that granted immortality when consumed, far more precious than the Immortal Peach. Wukong stole some fruits for himself and other pilgrims, and later, he uprooted the Ginseng Fruit Tree when his crime had been discovered. He had to invite Guanyin Bodhisattva to revive the tree. - 3:14 [Chapter 22] Sanzang, Wukong, and Bajie reached the Flowing-Sand River, where they fought a sand demon, who turned out to be the final disciple, Sha Monk (officially Sha Awakening of Pureness). - 3:22 [Chapter 14] Sanzang had just begun his Journey to the West and arrived at Five Element Mountain, where he freed Wukong by lifting Tathagata Buddha's seal and recruited him as his first disciple. Later on, they subdued Zhu Bajie (officially Zhu Awakening of Ability or Zhu Eight Rules) in Chapter 19 as the second disciple. - 3:43 [Chapter 7] Tathagata Buddha challenged Wukong to escape his palm, but Wukong failed. He was then imprisoned and sealed by the Buddha's palm (as the Five Element Mountain) for his crime against heaven for 500 years. - 4:08 [Chapter 4 - 7] Sun Wukong the Great Sage challenged the Celestial Heaven and battled with Erlang, Neiza, the Four Heavenly Kings, and an army of 100.000 Celestial Soldiers in his second havoc toward the Heaven. He turned himself into a three-head, six-arm body to fight all the celestial generals at once. Notably, Wukong fought with Erlang for days, both in combat and magic. Both are equal, while Erlang proved himself to have the upper hand slightly. Erlang only subdued Wukong with the support of the Supreme Exalted Laozi and his magical diamond circle. - 4:28 [Chapter 3] Sun Wukong got drunk and havoced the Underworld, where he crossed his name and every monkey's name out of the Book of Living and Death, thus making his soul not be managed by anyone. - 4:40 [Chapter 3] After receiving the golden armor and the Jingu Bang, Sun Wukong (literally translated as Awakening of Emptiness) gathered other Yaoguai, including the Bull Demon King, to drink together and become the swon brothers. But the scene is actually in chapter 5, where Wukong proclaimed himself as the Great Sage who Equal to the Heaven and started his first havoc toward the Heaven.
Rather than translate WuKong as Awakening of the Emptiness, I think it should be understand as "the study and understanding of nothingness" - a concept root deep within Buddism. Basically means only when you have cleared everything surrounding you, you can see yourself for what it truly is. WuKong, Bajie and Sha Monk's Buddish name (you gain one when you are officially accepted as a buddish monk) are Wu Kong, Wu Neng and Wu Jing. Which is the progress one soul must gone through to reach Buddha state. Wu Kong is the finding of your true self. Wu Neng is to understand the limits of your being. Wu Jing is to make peace with all that realizations. Then and only then you can embark on the path of a Buddish monk.
@dylanchua5197 Zhu Bajie was actually implied to be pretty big in the original Novel, Sha Wujing was said to be 12ft tall, while Wukong was basically less than 4ft tall...
bener, walaupun adaptasi kera sakti era mnctv bukan dari yang the og 1986 journey to the west, tapi tetep merinding pas maen ini. nostalgia at its fineet.
I'd give it an 8.5. It's gameplay is nothing revolutionary, it's mostly nostalgiabait for those who love the mythos. For those uninitiated to Journey to the West; it's just confusing. People outside of East Asia will have a rough time.
@tevisyauwerissa4084 Uh, no. It's not. The story is heard of in the same way Heracles is heard of outside of the West. It's a popular tale that people know is associated with another culture. But know little of the details. Don't exagerrate its popularity outside of East Asia.
@@stephenjenkins7971 The combat is fun Idgaf about it being revolutionary, you think I give a shit? I'd take this combat and lies of p combat over any souls.
@dkducanh I didn't grow up with the 1986 Series, but as a Xiyouji (West-Journey-Record) Fan since 2018 (Thanks to OSP & 1961/1964's Da Nao Tian Gong), hearing that FANATASIC rendition of it's theme song still hit REALLY hard for me! It felt like the cherry on top to an already Amazing Tribute to the Original Novel...
The ending may confuse some western audiences, but during the ending of the game, you can see the Destined one getting some of WuKong’s memory back, while carrying all 5 relic pieces, the old monkey said there’s still the last piece of relic that’s missing which is his memories / mind that was lost. However, if you completed all the secrets in every single chapter, and have bested ErLang Shen 二郎神at the secret mountain of Mei etc, in the secret ending / true ending, you see the Destined one getting the final piece of lost memory back, which was the memory of his journey to the west in an anime style told from the ending of the story to the very beginning. Unlike the normal ending / bad ending, right before the crown was put on him, the Destined one is no more, he is now Sun WuKong, receiving the final piece of his memory back which was his lost mind / memory ( before the translation it makes a lot more sense in Chinese ) Holding all 6 relics and finally free of the control of the gods ( the crown was made by Buddha and put on by Guan Yin 观音菩萨 in order to control WuKong who was the lady / god at the end of chapter 1 anime ) Since no one can kill WuKong, and he can not remove the crown by himself, his desire for being free, fuck destiny and the gods in his fashion like he said during the anime talking to ErLang Shen 二郎神 he simply gambled, and killed himself in order to be free of the crown / gods control. And in the secret ending the Destined one which is one of WuKong’s clone all along ( judging by being a piece of WuKong’s fur everytime you die and respawn ) successed and now lives free and no longer be in control of the gods! Who looks exactly like him, fights like him and have all the relics and his memories. So WuKong wins at the end, he is the exact same WuKong but now no longer being controlled by the gods and without the crown! The celestial Symphony classic JTW theme song hits so hard during the ending anime! WuKong is many’s childhood hero, including me, glad to see the devs do him justice in a dark twisted new story, except he is missing a cape on his armour that says 齐天大圣, missing the epic scenes where he swings his mountain size staff and his real title, 花果山水帘洞美猴王齐天大圣孙悟空 / the handsome monkey king from the flower and fruit mountain, the Great sage equal of heaven!
@@leodelonix155 The two-dimensional hand-drawn, stop-motion figure animation and Chinese ink painting that appear at the end of the game chapter are actually very expensive, and the consensus of Chinese players is that the money to buy the game is actually used to watch the animation, and the game is almost free.😅
Is very expensive to animate these as they are hand drawn frame by frame, painted and aggressively review and revision, way too expensive for commercialized China nowadays, Wukong game developers probably paid massive funds just to get the 2d animation done in 4 years.
@@ihatecabbage7270 their total budget for the game was around 80 to 100 million $. They already got more than they spent in the 1st day of the game's launch. Though expensive, they knew people will be captivated asf (one of them is me), this shit was way too good to pass up.
I couldn't bear to hold my tears with this ending. Me and my sister all night long playing as monkey king everytime we finished watched the tv series from vhs tape. whole family just laugh as we could recite all the words even we can't speak mandarin. grandparents, parents, uncles, aunts sit in circle watching us playing and chats. Back in 80s, we only have probably 2 tv channels, not as much entertainment like nowadays. the Journey to the west really nostalgic. Brought back all those memories.

Holly shit! the music for the ending is literally a direct homage to the 1986 TV series of Journey to the West, which me and many Vietnamese children grew up watching!
Go watch Sun Wukong and Black Lotus (I kind of forget the actual name, it has been so long) series. it is the sequel of "Journey to the west (1986)". That is super dope and you will see how insanely powerful Wukong is.
Mongolian national TV used to run the series during the 90s and as a kid growing up in the 90s, we also watched and loved it. The nostalgia hits hard. I'm not talking about Inner Mongolia by the way.
To many people in China, Wukong is our childhood superhero, just like Iron Man and Spider-Man. Wukong symbolizes the spirit of freedom and resist rooted in China culture.
You know who is worthy to be compared with Wukong? Goku because Journey To The West inspired Akira Toriyama to make Dragon Ball and Goku is Japanese version of Wukong.
Goddamned, the old classic theme song. I'm vietnamese, people of the western world have no idea how much this song mean to us vietnamese and chinese😭, our fking childhood😭😭😭
@ProToken420I agree. It's quite ignorant to think that the 'western world' doesn't know about Jttw. I love the book and the adaptations. The nostalgia isn't ONLY for their side. It's for us too.
This is not just some random cartoon, it is a replay of some of the most classic tales of the Journey to the West, a replay of Sun Wukong's memories. Along with this music from the most classic tv potrayl of the Journey to the West, this is just gold.
@@nghiaduong7888 yes they do, I visited North Korea back in 2011 and they did have TV in hotels. But at that time there was only 1 TV station so basically no need for a remoter, idk about now tho.
This is what games should be all about About passion, giving people a good story to remember their entire lifes and even pass it through their families, enjoy good gameplay, music and a good memory to last and be happy about, this is why i enjoy play games, not for a crappy cosmetic but for these moments that compels me to the bottom of my heart and make me feel like im just witnessing the result of many days of hard work, love and passion of many people that love what they do! Im not an asian but i feel so honoured to know more about their stories through this game, for me this is not a masterpiece, is a work of love which sometimes... Is even better than that
Whenever I hear the voices singing, I can't help crying. It reminds me of my childhood. Sun Wukong is a symbol of resistance and freedom, when he was called the “Da Sheng”, he was so unrestrained, innocent and lovely, his life experience and we are the same, as the more deeply into the society, the more bound, as long as you grow up, you will be worn invisible "jingu". The reason why I love Wukong is because he can protect his good heart with strong strength. In this game, Wukong died, but his will has been inherited, although you are not as strong as him, but as long as you are also willing to maintain the original heart, then you are Wukong
Just started watching it on RUclips. Da Sheng was a menace in the peach garden Currently at the point where jinchanzi is leaving on his journey so I guess the prologue is done and the journey begins.
So our protag has received the original Sun Wukong memories and the transformation is now complete, he is now the new Monkey King, but what comes next? Are there any cliffhangers for a possible sequel or DLC left in the game?
Most Journey to the west projects use the song, so definitely predictable but still appreciated. As a Sun WuKong fan, not really digging the whole disrespect towards him in the ending, I wish this true ending would have had English subtitles but don't think that it changes anything sadly. But I just think of this game as a myth definitely a black myth ⚫that is bs. But still enjoyable to play. Would have enjoyed a game based on Journey to the west story more but hundred chapters is impossible to be one game. So understandable that they didn't try it.
I often listened to this song when I was a child. Now that I'm grown, listening to it again always makes me sad and sometime cry, partly because of the hardships the characters face throughout their journey, but above all, because of the difficulties the entire film crew endured during the filming process.
I can't help but shed tears; 😢listening to this piece of music, reorchestrated so magnificently, feels like a hero from long ago returning with his achievements. Seeing him is like seeing a savior.
This version is about wukong has recall his true memory which fight with erlang in the past.the god erlang was laughing on wukong because if he win or lose he stills have to wear jinggu gave by rulai god and wukong was angry and said i will took it off. Then, the movie review of the legend journey to the west. wukong experience eighty-one difficulties and finally became god called overcome battle god.but it's not true himself. at this time, when player experience all of the story in this game, wukong realize that he wouldn't accept this jingu, instead he will fight as the qitiandasheng (a god who ability as strong as sky, and this name was traditional Journey to the West wukong himself) to fight with the whole heaven god by himself. this is my personal conclusion, perhaps something wrong because my English is very poor.
from the up to date known endings, the real wukong was trying to get rid of the gold hoop (which was put on by Guan Yin Pu Sa (观音菩萨), you can consider her as one of the mighty Buddha). The golden hoop is the way the God court and Buddha to limit and control wukong. The context of black wukong story defined that the golden hoop is still on wukong’s head even though he became the Buddha after the journey to the west. So wukong pretended to be defeated by ErLang Shen(the opponent in first scene) and break apart to six pieces, and the main character we played is one of the six pieces, 意(I’ll translate it into spirit), the main character has to fight against all the bosses to recover the wukong’s entire memory of the journey to the west. (If we didn’t fight Erlang Shen, we will miss this and have the first ending, putting on the hoop and reincarnation)And remembering all the past and merging with other five pieces and rebirth as the wukong. And the reborn wukong will reject putting the hoop on(second ending, wukong remembered everything and decide fight against and god court and Buddha) resist his life. Hope my understanding make sense to you. My understanding on the potential third endings: In second ending, wukong remembered everything and revisit his memory of the journey to the west, but at the end he found nobody is around him. I think the the third ending could be achieved if we don’t kill any demon boss, but only kill the God boss, and we meet Erlang Shen and remembered everything, then wukong will finally see his peers and they fight back to the God court together.
This is still not the final endings tho, not yet. If the theme of the game is aline with the prologue, then there is still more endings to it( just needs to fight and fight for that ultimate ending)
Every summer, at least 1 among TV channels in Vietnam broadcasts the 1986 version of Journey to The West. Ever since we were children, Sun Wukong and his journey had always been a great figure in our minds. It really brought me to tear as I heard the 1986 series OP song.
To anyone who may be confused by the good ending, the cartoon flashback (it is actually not a flashback, but more like a connection between past life and current new life):
If you know wukong stories like me as a chinese, you will understand the good ending, the cartoon very easily. first of all, the book "journey to the west" is such a big story, it is considered one of the Four Greatest Classical Novels in chinese history, and the novel ends up with wukong being assigned as one of the buddha and the headband off.
I love the transition at the end where Wukong faces invading troops led by Nezha and Erlang - fearless and unbending staying alone like „come and taste my iron rod you celestial bastards“ 💪😎
It's a shame that many Westerners didn't enjoy the game simply because the characters belong to a culture they don't know. Still, there are many Westerners like me who were happy to get to know Chinese culture and its incredible mythology. May more games of this level come. Congratulations Game Science, it was a privilege to have seen this. From the south of Brazil.
That's a given since people play to understand and have fun. BMW is a good game with a lot of love behind it, but it is NOT a game that welcomes newcomers to the mythology. It assumes you know all about Journey to the West already.
Let me, a pure Chinese, explain to you what this video shows! The old monkey was about to put the tight hoop on the man of destiny, when the man of destiny remembered Wukong's memory. The setting of the tight hoop is that the wearer must be willing, and once put on, it cannot be taken off. The memory adopts the flashback technique! In the first scene, this should happen when Wukong returned to Huaguo Mountain (Flower and Fruit Mountain) after becoming a Buddha and was persecuted by the Heavenly Court. That is, the opening scene at the beginning of the game, Yang Jian (Erlang Shen) mocked Wukong for still being imprisoned. In the second scene, Tathagata canonized Wukong as the Fighting Buddha. In the third scene, after Wukong went to Lingshan to obtain the scriptures, the scriptures fell into the water (nine x nine = one of the eighty-one difficulties), and in the fourth scene, Fengxian County (Phoenix Fairy) was punished by the Heavenly Court to prohibit rain. Then it continued until Tang Seng (Wukong's second master) chanted the spell to remove the imprisonment talisman on the Five Elements Mountain. Then Wukong urinated on Tathagata's palm and wrote "The Great Sage Equaling Heaven was here". The so-called Five Elements Mountain is actually Tathagata's palm! Wukong made a bet with Tathagata that he would be punished if he could not fly out of Tathagata's palm. Wukong's somersault cloud did not jump out of Tathagata's palm, but he thought he had flown to the end of the world, so he wrote "The Great Sage Equaling Heaven was here" to prove it to Tathagata. Then Wukong fought Erlang Shen and Nezha, and then Wukong made a big fuss in the underworld and crossed out his name and the names of his monkeys and descendants from the Book of Life and Death. Then Wukong and his brothers prepared to revolt in the Water Curtain Cave in Huaguo Mountain. When Wukong put down the wine bowl, the scene returned to the beginning of the game again. Wukong was alone and ready to fight Erlang Shen! All of Wukong's brothers were gone. It should be that when Wukong became a Buddha and returned to Huaguo Mountain, the Heavenly Court did not want him to be undisciplined, so they persecuted all his brothers and friends! Therefore, Wukong chose to commit suicide at the hands of Erlang Shen in the end. He just wanted to get rid of the shackles of the golden hoop (the ever-present pressure from the heavenly court). You can understand it as getting rid of the golden hoop on his head, but the original novel seems to say that when Wukong became a Buddha, the golden hoop on his head had been removed by Tathagata.
By the way, Buddhism belongs to the West Heaven, and the Jade Emperor belongs to the East Heaven. They are all ancient gods, but they are divided into two factions, each occupying one side of the world! They all want to win over powerful people like Wukong for their own use! Wukong's first master, Bodhi Patriarch, belongs to the neutral, hidden faction. That is the so-called Taoism. We can see this from the Taoist animations we often see. The Taoist school emphasizes that mortals can be promoted to immortals through practicing Taoism. So Wukong is a natural stone monkey, who happened to meet the Taoist master Bodhi Patriarch, and finally he was ranked among the immortals. When he finally saw the truth that the ancient gods of the West Heaven and the East Heaven were actually using living things to make elixirs for immortality and prolong their lifespans, he was unwilling to go along with it, so he chose to return to his hometown, Huaguo Mountain! But knowing the truth and being extraordinary, how could he just leave, so his story is destined to be full of twists and turns!
For those wondering, this flashback the Destined One receive is Wukong's life journey in reverse of it's chronological order. The first scene of the flashback is after journey to the west where after he gains budhahood he abandoned it and try to live in peace in mount huaguo but in return the circlet is put back in his head however the celestial court is offended when he refuse to live among them so they try to kill him and Wukong is defeated because the circlet is put back on his head and sealed in a stone afterward.
HOLY SMOKES!!! The moment the chords started at 2:10 its like I got zapped right back to my childhood, running home to watch JTTW with my family! My heart is so full, so warm that our childhood lives on decades and decades after the 1986 JTTW film ended. Thank you for making my childhood, and many others, so magical
Na it'll definitely get a few prices. Competition last year was way harder and it is a really solid game - 9.5ish/10. Story and storytelling is 10/10. Graphics/Environment 10/10 most of the time besides a few hiccups. Music is great as well but might be hard to win cause other games have great composers as well. There it'll come to a style preference. For me the best game I've played this year fs. Not reinventing the wheel but solid craftsmanship and no micro transaction bullshit
@@Ruuod Literally everything. I had to do a lot of digging just to understand the prologue. Look up any Western reactor playing this game, and they're all confused. It takes those knowing Journey to the West explaining things to them in the comments to understand. But unlike other games in this genre, the game doesn't have items that explain the series of events. Just enemy lore that makes no sense without background info of Journey to the West.
1:18 If you stop right here and turn the screen upside down, then you'll find this very important hint: *the true essence of the entire Celestial Court is a one hella masive yaoguai cave ..... hidden under the disguise of noble Gods and Saints* 🙊 Wukong fought so hard to reach the top, only to come to such dark full realization and joined the ranks... and eventually, with a deep sense of betrayal and guilt, Wukong decided to break free from the restrictions and attempt to reverse the the order of the whole system like how Neo did with the Matrix 👿 I think there more 'true endings' to come -- *the reincarnated new Wukong is starting a revolution!*
There's indeed more ending, and this one obviously not the true end (there're 4 ending in total, stated in the Achievement, but just only 2 have been found)
Since I was young I knew that one day they would remake this into an epic movie with this exact piece of music and it would rock the world. I never imagined it to come true as an epic game.
I think that song makes people born in China, Vietnam and other countries who were able to watch the CCTV TV show in the 80s feel the same as people who watched Avengers: Endgame, the part about the heroes coming back. My respects to the Legend of the Monkey King, whether it's the Dicky Cheung or Liu Xiao Ling Tong version.
correct me if im wrong, but this true ending where destined one opens his eyes means he have fully downloaded wukong memories and will not let the old monkey bond him to the headband, thus he is reborn and unleashed.
To me it’s probably like the Avatar Cycle in The Last Airbender, the destined one might not be Wukong in the literal sense but instead channel his power, wisdom, and memories as a successor. Here, Wukong becomes a guiding force, with the destined one carrying his legacy while maintaining their own individuality. In the animation, we see Wukong die after a battle, only to be revived at the end of the game. The opening line, "Open your eyes and see," shows Wukong refusing to put the golden crown on his head. The final moment shows Wukong returning to where his brothers were previously sacrificed, leaving behind only bloody weapons. He turns his back and begins his journey of revenge

Most of Western: Huh, neat song-
Vietnamese and Chinese: *Replay the whole childhood and nostalgia in their mind*
VIETNAM
Fun Fact : Every year during the summer vacation in Vietnam, at least one TV station will re-air this Journey of the West 1986
@iggy_bunny Me, a Westerner who's been a Xiyouji fan since 2018 & watched PLENTY of Chinese/Japanese Adaptations & hyped for this Game's release since it was initially announced back in 2020: "Sobbing with Tears of Absolute Joy hearing this PERFECT Rendition of the Song"
we watch it every day in indonesia, the hot dessert and the centipede arc is my childhood
I believe most Asian people knew about it, at least South East Asia
Yeah, same when I saw this ending, it makes me want to see the Journey to the West again.
有一种说法是如果从结尾看到开头这会变成一个完全不同的故事😮

Unlike the normal ending / bad ending, right before the crown was put on him, the Destined one is no more, he is now Sun WuKong, receiving the final piece of his memory back which was his lost mind / memory ( before the translation it makes a lot more sense in Chinese ) Holding all 6 relics and finally free of the control of the gods ( the crown was made by Buddha and put on by Guan Yin 观音菩萨 in order to control WuKong who was the lady / god at the end of chapter 1 anime )
Since no one can kill WuKong, and he can not remove the crown by himself, his desire for being free, fuck destiny and the gods in his fashion like he said during the anime talking to ErLang Shen 二郎神 he simply gambled, and killed himself in order to be free of the crown / gods control.

Im not an asian but i feel so honoured to know more about their stories through this game, for me this is not a masterpiece, is a work of love which sometimes... Is even better than that

童年的回忆太强烈了,想起当时无忧无虑的自己,眼里有泪光😭
I lived in Indonesia, but I watched the 80s and 90s version of journey to the west. I gotten say, the nostalgia is hitting deep with the theme song 🫡
This really bring tears to my eyes, it's like my whole childhood has just returned 😢
Da Sheng was a menace in the peach garden
Currently at the point where jinchanzi is leaving on his journey so I guess the prologue is done and the journey begins.
Wukong’s voice actor is just so good. The raspy voice fits perfectly. 😩😭
I'm working on subtitles. Just a few hours.

2:02 no way they got the music from 1986 journey to the West TV show a bit of a no brainer but still an awesome call back
Most Journey to the west projects use the song, so definitely predictable but still appreciated.

2:35 The best Journey to the West project ever created and the best representation of the characters, that song is legendary.

traditional Journey to the West wukong himself) to fight with the whole heaven god by himself. this is my personal conclusion, perhaps something wrong because my English is very poor.

from the up to date known endings, the real wukong was trying to get rid of the gold hoop (which was put on by Guan Yin Pu Sa (观音菩萨), you can consider her as one of the mighty Buddha).
My understanding on the potential third endings:
In second ending, wukong remembered everything and revisit his memory of the journey to the west, but at the end he found nobody is around him. I think the the third ending could be achieved if we don’t kill any demon boss, but only kill the God boss, and we meet Erlang Shen and remembered everything, then wukong will finally see his peers and they fight back to the God court together.
Im thinking the same as you do !!!
Holy sh*t nice! Great summary and theory! Maybe that is how to achieve the 3rd ending.
This is still not the final endings tho, not yet. If the theme of the game is aline with the prologue, then there is still more endings to it( just needs to fight and fight for that ultimate ending)
I guess this is one way to put it
In the original story when does wukong get the golden loop? Is it before journey to the west to control his rampages??
Every summer, at least 1 among TV channels in Vietnam broadcasts the 1986 version of Journey to The West. Ever since we were children, Sun Wukong and his journey had always been a great figure in our minds.

The Chinese version has the original music from the 1986 movie series, which is different from the English version.
Is there a possibility that you didn't trigger the good ending?
It's a shame that many Westerners didn't enjoy the game simply because the characters belong to a culture they don't know. Still, there are many Westerners like me who were happy to get to know Chinese culture and its incredible mythology. May more games of this level come. Congratulations Game Science, it was a privilege to have seen this. From the south of Brazil.
That's a given since people play to understand and have fun. BMW is a good game with a lot of love behind it, but it is NOT a game that welcomes newcomers to the mythology. It assumes you know all about Journey to the West already.
I'm glad that after all these years Wukong finally journeyed to the western audiences in a video game

OMG the music. Childhood ost from tv series !!! So much memories
We Malaysians are familiar with this story since childhood.❤👍🥰
I NEED an animated Journey To The West series in this art style.
i really like the artistic detail of them showing these memorise in reverse.

@Ruuod Storytelling is nor 10/10 ar all. Game assumes you have read the OG Journey to the West. So basically; people only of East Asia.
@@stephenjenkins7971 nah. Where in the main story do you require knowledge from journey to the west to understand whats going on?
@@Ruuod Literally everything. I had to do a lot of digging just to understand the prologue. Look up any Western reactor playing this game, and they're all confused. It takes those knowing Journey to the West explaining things to them in the comments to understand. But unlike other games in this genre, the game doesn't have items that explain the series of events. Just enemy lore that makes no sense without background info of Journey to the West.
1:18 If you stop right here and turn the screen upside down, then you'll find this very important hint: *the true essence of the entire Celestial Court is a one hella masive yaoguai cave ..... hidden under the disguise of noble Gods and Saints* 🙊 Wukong fought so hard to reach the top, only to come to such dark full realization and joined the ranks... and eventually, with a deep sense of betrayal and guilt, Wukong decided to break free from the restrictions and attempt to reverse the the order of the whole system like how Neo did with the Matrix 👿 I think there more 'true endings' to come -- *the reincarnated new Wukong is starting a revolution!*

correct me if im wrong, but this true ending where destined one opens his eyes means he have fully downloaded wukong memories and will not let the old monkey bond him to the headband, thus he is reborn and unleashed.
This might actually make sense since the sage monkey said wukong has died and only his mind is empty and when we defeated broken shell we get all his memories well if you don’t put on the headband that is
I've watched the Journey to the West movie a few years back and honestly seeing that animation brought back those memories by. MK is the best!

This is the beautiful ending of Wukong.
