This musical piece is fucking legendary. Every single person in China knows it. And 40 years later it’s going global. This is playing in every Chinese person’s head like Star Wars’ Imperial March in the West. But what’s hitting hard is it’s finally going global. In the past China never had the soft power the US or even Japan had. Chinese Communist cinematic masterpieces don’t get recognized the same way Hollywood icons do beyond China’s boarders. People had to wait for almost half a century for this to go global.
Here is a 41 year old guy from Spain who discovered the ‘Journey to the West’ series in January this year. I have seen CCTV's Liu Xiao Ling Tong from 1986, Dicky Cheung's from 1996, the one from 2009 with Fei Zhenxiang, Stephen Chow's films, and the cartoon films, both old and recent, and I even read the 1358-page book. I fell in love with the story. Now I understand why all over Asia they respect the Great Sage equal to Heaven. For Asia, the Legend of Sun Wukong is like for Spain the Legend of Don Quixote, neither more nor less, and that is the beautiful thing, that people from many countries, hundreds or thousands of kilometres away feel affection for the Monkey King, and also for Zhu Bajie, that glutton who complained about everything, for the simple but noble Wajing, for the upright and serious Tang Monk, and above all for the Poor Horse whom almost nobody remembers. As a Vietnamese listening to the original version of this song every summer since childhood, this remake gives me serious goosebumps! All hail the Monkey King!
I'm in tears!! They did a version of the opening!! omg!! i cannot wait to hear this in the game and come up on this scene!!! This woke a core memory of my childhood!!
Seeing all the comments, I absolutely love the fact that they used such a famous theme for their game, that even fits the game. I personally don't think I've seen the TV show, but I can't imagine what it must feel like to know this track and hear it in your adulthood again in a videogame. This game was made with so much love, it's amazing. This is their first game, and they put all of their passion and love into it, and it absolutely paid off. EDIT: I think the world needs a Journey To The West animated series in the same art style as the ending cutscene.
I had a feeling already back when Game Science got permission from both CCTV and the original composer to use the TV opening and ending theme for the game that it would be a great game. 1986 TV series JttW is considered one of the all time great series produced by CCTV and they don't give out the rights to that IP easily. There's an interview with the original composer and he was enthusiastic about the game and said they used his theme to great effect to tie in the game to the original story.
western kids will never experience the feeling of us Asian kids wearing Wukong mask and waiving a bamboo stick while running around hitting each other with this track in our head
As a Vietnamese person, my childhood was also closely associated with images from Journey to the West, Sun Wukong, with plastic Ruyi Jingu Bang staffs and masks of the Monkey King. My friends and I often pretended to be Sun Wukong and demons, oops, not demons, I mean Yaoguai ("Yêu Quái" in Vietnameses)
And in every mid autumn festival, there were always fights among the boys who claimed to be the true Wukong. No one wanted to be Baije or other characters. Girls like me were always assigned as yaoquoai 😂😂😂 or fairy lady,

Can't wait for this to be included in the GOTY orchestra at The Game Awards.
Má nhớ xem Tây du ký với bà ngoại khi nghỉ về mỗi ngày coi nhớ tuổi thơ bây h nghe bài này làm xúc động quá 😭
EDIT: I think the world needs a Journey To The West animated series in the same art style as the ending cutscene.
they can't fail their childhood hero.
The original 1986 series is fully on RUclips! Watch it! (Episode 8 is the opening scene as seen in the game if you are wondering)

As a Cantonese, I can see that the Vietnamese name Yêu Quái is obviously translated from Cantonese, not Mandarin.
And in every mid autumn festival, there were always fights among the boys who claimed to be the true Wukong. No one wanted to be Baije or other characters. Girls like me were always assigned as yaoquoai 😂😂😂 or fairy lady,
@@MollytheFury So nostalgic, my friend, something like: "So beautiful like this can only be a yaoquoai ." or ""Sit still here, hold a cup or a stick as a magic weapon. Wukong will come to request and use it to fight the yaoquoai."
@@CodeJuly haha, we all know who is that Deity who sits on lotus, one hand holds a white bottle with branch of tree and white veil on top of her head 😎😎😎 another favorite character in my location is the bull king. I also remember they depicted aggressive dominant wife as the Bull king’s wife too

It is the sound of my core memories unlocking 😭😭😭
The most exciting thing about this song is that for Chinese people in 1986, this song is their childhood memory. The song was adapted from the opening song of the TV series Journey to the West, which was shown on Chinese TV during the summer and winter vacations and loved by Chinese children.
