So, for all those confused by the end animation of 5th chapter, here is the explanation. Everything in the animation happened, it's just that the events shown are not linear. Hundreds of years back, before the journey to the West, Wokong and the Bull became sworn brothers, and together they rebelled against heaven, which is the mid part of the animation where the Bull and Wukong fought side by side against the celestial army. That rebellion was also the first time Wukong fought Erlong (the three-eyes dude from the beginning of the game). They lost that fight and Wukong was captured and eventually imprisoned under the five-finger mountain for 500 years. Then the journey to the West took place, during that journey, Wukong and his gang ran into the Bull again. Wukong and his gang were blocked by this fire mountain and needed to borrow the Plantain Fan from the Bull's wife to quell the flame, but lots of shit happened and they made the Bull into an enemy (Bajie even killed his mistress). The Bull was so powerful that Wukong had to call for help from the celestial court to subdue him (he was defeated not killed, losing a head is nothing), this was shown at the part when Wukong and Bajie were talking down to the Bull. Then the journey to the West concluded, and time forward to the beginning of this game. Wukong fought against Heaven again, this time, the Bull and the four bosses from previous chapters joined Heaven's force to defeat Wukong. Hence 5 of Wukong's 6 senses were given to them as rewards, this is the part at the beginning of the anime. When the Bull held Wukong in his arms, he started to reminisce about the past. They didn't show Wukong fought the 5 of them in the intro, I guess more combat went on after Erlong thrust Wukong into the mountain. After that event, at some point, the Bull's son finds out about his own lineage and wants to take Wukong's "body sense" so he can become strong enough to avenge his people (rebel against Heaven like his dad and Wukong did). But fear for his son, he refused, thus the father and son are at odds now.
Those “lots of shit” could be explained more deeply but in short, Bull demon King life in the game is pretty fucked up with many of his bad choices. First, he could not become brother with Wk and live his life peacefully. Second, he could forgive Wk (now on the journey) for beating his son away, attack his wife, Bajie killed his mistress and just give Them the Fan ( Hes now raging because living a demon life is powerless to the Heaven and Buddhism Paradise ) Finally, after Tamed by Heaven, he can chose to throw off the WK sense away but chose to keep it, waiting for Destinated one, knowing the sense could erode him slowly. Or just give its to his son ( he will not ). And about why WK messed up with Bull in the journey, that because he believed if he follow buddhism, he could escaped the demon tragic life and freeing all the powerless animal down there. According to the book, the author described the demon as the common people, being exploited by the High class, all the demon Wk killed were the one who not related to the heaven , others are being like some huge ass profile God cameback to take them away without anyharm, Wk realized his fellow could never be treated like the same way even He is a Buddhist rn . In fact, Heaven give him to Buddhism to control him, but he refuse to stay, so they afraid that when get back, he will teach other animals magical stuffs, leading to a potential rebel. Anyway i accept debate since alot of Eastern term can not be described correctly to West culture

In the end, at his wits end and feeling he would be killed, bull king pleaded them to spare his life so he could become a buddhist monk to repent and was taken away.

Is restricted by an item. wukong by his head band and Nezha by the magical tower hold by his father (the men on the left at 4:29). Actually wukong didn't betray him, the journey to the west means expiation for both of them. But the bull demon king didn't get that and didn't dare to cooperate with Wukong again.
Desperation and hopelessness were all caused by bull's own stupid choices while there was no betrayal. He stubbornly held grudges against wukong even though he spared the life of his family members several times while he and his family tried to kill him over and over, being uncooperative until they had no choice anymore.
The bull king made three choices in his life: 1. bull king + wukong vs. celestial court (before the journey) 2. bull king vs. wukong + celestial court (during the journey) 3. bull king + celestial court vs. wukong (after the journey) All these choices were wrong from outsider's perspective. However, he never had any option, there's not much he could do.
One detail is that Wukong fell down, but he saw the bull demon King come and pick him up. At this time, Wukong wanted the bull demon King to draw a line with himself and chose to side with the monster, but the bull demon King did not do so, and was ostracized by the monster
The fates of Yaoguai will never be fair, to be stamped down like a vermin and forever be cast down from the empire of heaven to the ground. For Bull is the only reason to save his people by overthrowing the celestial court and elevating his people from the eyes of the court. He has a choice but what kind of outcome he would have? All is bad and never be a good one.
He didn't really have any option because it is rigged by the gods. They let Rakshasi marry Bull King on purpose to not let him cause a big scene cuz that will affect his family just like Bajie refused to acknowledge spider girl as his daughter. The court did many shady things in the dark to keep those yaoguais afraid of defying them
What I liked most about this cinematic is that while we see the consequences of those bad decisions, we also see the physical/emotional pain of the Bull with his looks without him having to express a single word.

In the novel, he precisely says he hate and loathe wukong when asked by his wife rakhasi which is why he still refused to give the fan when pushed back to his last forces and surrounded by foes until he was beaten so close to death he begged for mercy and said he would become a monk from now on.
Three choices that the bull king made wrong: 1.Helped Wukong fight against the celestial court. (before the journey) 2.Didn't give Wukong the fan and help them pass the flaming mountains.(during the journey) 3.Helped the celestial court to kill Wukong.(after the journey)

I'm pretty sure the part where wukong got beaten up so badly is after the intro fight of the game where wukong got stabbed, you can clearly see the 4 yaoguai kings besides erlang.
IMO, fighting with WuKong wasn't the wrong choice; choosing to live his own life outside of the celestial "Institution" instead of following a "Master" (as did WuKong to Guanyin) after their defeat was his original "sin". The next wrong choice was refusing to cooperate during their Journey; "the only way out" that WuKong told him meant exactly to be a part of the institution and gain protection from a "Master". Doing as he's told, he followed the order to kill WuKong, only to be shaken to the core when the dying WuKong's last words made him realize what WuKong did to his families during JttW were all for their protection, hence once again he regret his choices.

I believe that this is the truth, Sun wukong under siege of six yaoguai kings and Erlangshen, and what happens in the opening scene was nothing but the old monkey's narative. For some reason he lied to the destined one. Perhaps the most complex character for me is the old monkey. No idea who he actually is so far.

For guys who is still confused about the explanation for chapter five, I know it's still struggling to figuring out everything. Let me sorting the events on cutscene in time order: 1 bullking and wukong fight against celetial court (happened before journey to the west, also the first wrong choice made by bullking) 2 bullking's wife talks to him about the birth of Red boy(should be slightly before journey to the west, depending on the real age of red boy,but it doesnt matter) 3.Wukong joins journey to the west. When they meet Redboy, wukong seeks for help from guanyin. Guanyin subdue Redboy and make him her disciple.(matching wukong's line"you kid, I have given away) 4.Wukong and his team reach The coutry of female. Tang monk and Bajie drink from the river of childbearing and be pregnant. Wukong obtain the spring water for abortion(which is legal in China lol) by beating bullking's brother.(matching his line"your brother, ive disciplined"） 5.Wukong's team reach the flaming mountain and want to borrow the fan to go across. Bullking refused and fight against wukong and celetial court. He failed and subdued. The scene where Rakshasa gives up the fans, wukong puts staff on his neck, bullking becomes a bull and be decapitated all belong to the event.(His second wrong choice) 6.Redboy escapes from Guanyin and return to flaming mountain, which is not shown in the cutscene.(should be slightly after journey to the west） 7.Bullking fights against wukong with celetial court, including black bear, yellow brow, erlang etc, and gains wukong's relic: body. Is restricted by an item. wukong by his head band and Nezha by the magical tower hold by his father (the men on the left at 4:29).
This tower is like a trap formation and is the only reason Nezha listen to the heavenly court.
Both of them hate the court and have great pre-celestial court story.
Insanely good, the colors in this one are amazing. Hope we see more animations like this in the future.

The Bull King got angry, refused to lend the fan, and chose to fight, which led to Heaven intervening. That’s why the Bull King was beheaded, and why Wukong said he never made the right choice.
The Bull King chose to tolerate his wife’s situation, decided not to reveal his son’s true parentage in Red Boy’s case, and obstructed matters involving the Monkey and Pigsy. He thought it was Monkey and Pigsy who had caused his family to fall apart. But in reality, it was all under Heaven’s watchful eye. If Pigsy hadn’t gone to the Jade-Faced Fox, the little fox Pingping would’ve died. If Wukong hadn’t sent Red Boy to Guanyin, Red Boy would’ve died too. It wasn’t until the very end, when he had to sacrifice his own kin for the greater good, that the Bull King realized, once again, he had made the wrong choice."

The moment bull king was beheaded is depicted so well. Feel such desperation, hopelessness, and heart-breaking betrayal.
Actually wukong didn't betray him, the journey to the west means expiation for both of them. But the bull demon king didn't get that and didn't dare to cooperate with Wukong again.
There is no one betrayed here. Only Heaven's plot is cruel, making sworn brothers fight each othet 😢
Desperation and hopelessness were all caused by bull's own stupid choices while there was no betrayal. He stubbornly held grudges against wukong even though he spared the life of his family members several times while he and his family tried to kill him over and over, being uncooperative until they had no choice anymore.

This is probably my favorite out of all the chapter endings! The animation is so clean
The bull king made three choices in his life:
1. bull king + wukong vs. celestial court (before the journey)
2. bull king vs. wukong + celestial court (during the journey)
3. bull king + celestial court vs. wukong (after the journey)
All these choices were wrong from outsider's perspective. However, he never had any option, there's not much he could do.
One detail is that Wukong fell down, but he saw the bull demon King come and pick him up. At this time, Wukong wanted the bull demon King to draw a line with himself and chose to side with the monster, but the bull demon King did not do so, and was ostracized by the monster
The fates of Yaoguai will never be fair, to be stamped down like a vermin and forever be cast down from the empire of heaven to the ground. For Bull is the only reason to save his people by overthrowing the celestial court and elevating his people from the eyes of the court. He has a choice but what kind of outcome he would have? All is bad and never be a good one.

He didn't really have any option because it is rigged by the gods. They let Rakshasi marry Bull King on purpose to not let him cause a big scene cuz that will affect his family just like Bajie refused to acknowledge spider girl as his daughter. The court did many shady things in the dark to keep those yaoguais afraid of defying them
What I liked most about this cinematic is that while we see the consequences of those bad decisions, we also see the physical/emotional pain of the Bull with his looks without him having to express a single word.

In the novel, he precisely says he hate and loathe wukong when asked by his wife rakhasi which is why he still refused to give the fan when pushed back to his last forces and surrounded by foes until he was beaten so close to death he begged for mercy and said he would become a monk from now on.

@@johnneymc It's not her choice, the celestial court forces her to bear the child. In the original novel, Red Boy is truly Bull King's child, Rakshasi never did anything wrong, but Bull King still abandoned her and chose to live with the fox.
I'm pretty sure the part where wukong got beaten up so badly is after the intro fight of the game where wukong got stabbed, you can clearly see the 4 yaoguai kings besides erlang.
IMO, fighting with WuKong wasn't the wrong choice; choosing to live his own life outside of the celestial "Institution" instead of following a "Master" (as did WuKong to Guanyin) after their defeat was his original "sin". The next wrong choice was refusing to cooperate during their Journey; "the only way out" that WuKong told him meant exactly to be a part of the institution and gain protection from a "Master". Doing as he's told, he followed the order to kill WuKong, only to be shaken to the core when the dying WuKong's last words made him realize what WuKong did to his families during JttW were all for their protection, hence once again he regret his choices.
This animation is absolute peak! Got me so hyped up! Such incredible art and animation put together. Reminds me of an actual anime, idk what, but it's giving me Naruto vibes.

Absolutely goegeous animation.🎉 This animation contrdicts with the opening scene on how Sun wukong has been defeated. I believe that this is the truth, Sun wukong under siege of six yaoguai kings and Erlangshen, and what happens in the opening scene was nothing but the old monkey's narative. For some reason he lied to the destined one. Perhaps the most complex character for me is the old monkey. No idea who he actually is so far.

despite what wukong said, the ox king fighting alongside wukong against the celestial court showed that he was the only one with camaraderie and loyalty amongst wukong's sworn brothers

We see him holding it in the animation, then use it to restrain Demon Bull King while Nezha uses his sash to further restrain him and then beheads him
For guys who is still confused about the explanation for chapter five, I know it's still struggling to figuring out everything. Let me sorting the events on cutscene in time order:
1 bullking and wukong fight against celetial court (happened before journey to the west, also the first wrong choice made by bullking)
2 bullking's wife talks to him about the birth of Red boy(should be slightly before journey to the west, depending on the real age of red boy,but it doesnt matter)
3.Wukong joins journey to the west. When they meet Redboy, wukong seeks for help from guanyin. Guanyin subdue Redboy and make him her disciple.(matching wukong's line"you kid, I have given away)
4.Wukong and his team reach The coutry of female. Tang monk and Bajie drink from the river of childbearing and be pregnant. Wukong obtain the spring water for abortion(which is legal in China lol) by beating bullking's brother.(matching his line"your brother, ive disciplined"）
5.Wukong's team reach the flaming mountain and want to borrow the fan to go across. Bullking refused and fight against wukong and celetial court. He failed and subdued. The scene where Rakshasa gives up the fans, wukong puts staff on his neck, bullking becomes a bull and be decapitated all belong to the event.(His second wrong choice)
6.Redboy escapes from Guanyin and return to flaming mountain, which is not shown in the cutscene.(should be slightly after journey to the west）
7.Bullking fights against wukong with celetial court, including black bear, yellow brow, erlang etc, and gains wukong's relic: body. This event is shown in the beginning and ending of the cutscene.(His third wrong choice)
8.Redboy call his father lapdog. He knows the truth of his birth.(after wukong is dead and bullking gets the relic)
Regarding the facts about bullking family. They are all correct. Bullking and Rakshasa live separately. He is happy with the concubine fox guai who is pretty and rich. Bajie also kill the fox in both game and original story during the flaming mountain event.
Regarding the interpretation of the relic, bullking's experience is just like this two-head pig. His whole life is in such two-sided dillema. He has to choose between brother and family. In the first time he chooses brother, in the last two he chooses family. But none of them has good end. He loses his best friends and family is also broken, making it so tragic.(Please keep in mind that in original story, only event 3-5 is correct. The rest are only in the game!!!)
