- During the development of the game, Game Science worked with several top 2D animation teams in China to create six animated shorts for each chapter ending of BlackMythWukong.
The colors in all of these original versions are absolutely stunning! But I'm kind of glad it was toned down slightly for the final release to better fit the overall story and atmosphere of the game.

Which is another reason i prefer Wukong over GOW in terms of graphics. Its much more immersive and on theme.
The difference is pretty crazy, i agree that it was good to tone down but man they are even better and more beautiful here. Very happy they released them for us to watch.
Absolutely adored how vibrant the colours were here, but I think it was that less saturated atmosphere in the game that just sold the bittersweet theme a bit better imo. Can't even count how many times I've cried to this damn animation-

There is a whole story behind the simple female lyrics of ""Night-blooming flowers" at 2:35. It is about "昙花一现，只为韦陀" (Tánhuā yīxiàn, zhǐ wèi Wéituó) (Đàm hoa nhất hiện, chỉ vị Vi Đà). In short, a flower waiting a few thousand years just to bloom for Weituo, a guardian/Buddhist dude, to express her love eventhough Weituo do not/cannot return the love because of his devotion.
The writer of the lyrics must have gone really really deep into the Buddhist stuff to come up with a simple, yet beautiful line.

Honestly I couldn't help but shed tears when I watched this for the first time, a romantic tragedy for Bajie and violet spider. In the novel journey to the west, Sun wukong killed all 7 spiders before continued their quest. But here the game modified the story that back then Sun wukong let Bajie to finish them. However Bajie couldn't make his mind to kill the one spider that was once a fairy in celestial realm who loved him. Violet spider was let go alive and after that the story of Black myth unfolds. Nice adaptation Game science!🎉
My favorite side story from the game, Bajie is wonderfully portrayed here. I feel like this is one of my favorite version of Bajie.
I think most people are either missed or confused about the part where she slowly transformed into the Spider Demon while Bajie slowly reverting back to his formed self, it’s because of regrets.
Bajie was transformed into the pig cuz he was punished for accidentally discovered the affair between Jade Emperor and Moon Goddess, it was involuntary and his life keeps spirals downward beyond that
While the the moon fairy felt in love with him, then once she heard the new of his punishment she asked around to know what form did he take in the mortal world and misheard “pig” for “spider” (they sound similar in chinese) hence why the spider form.
At the end of the song u can hear the female and the male vocals sing different lyrics

Because Bajie regretted his choice and what happened to them while Violet spider didn’t regret her choice, she chose exile to be with him.
That’s why in the animation u see her slowly transforming (she had no regret) while Bajie slowly reverting back (he regrets his choice).

i keep watching this everyday frame by frame, for me this is masterwork of storytelling combined by Art and Music, i want every person making this to know that ur work is appreciated by me like a man who have marriage to his wife for several year despite of that he still find his wife beautiful as they met at first time.

This cinematic has become my new favorite thing. It made what I had to get through to get here so worth it. Duskveil had me nearly quitting the game but I didn’t give up and got the needle that I needed to help beat the chapter 4 boss. This game is so difficult but so rewarding. Game of the year, I’m calling it now

The most diverse characters I ever seen in a game. XD
The animation is so emotional and touching. I've saw a lot streamers, they laughed at the beginning, and as the story developed, the smiles slowly disappeared, and somehow turned into tears in the end. Even didn't fully understand who those are in the story. Just being hit to the heart so hard.
As someone who has never read JTTW until after beating this game I was still able to understand the visual storytelling of this and it did bring me to tears. Such an unforgettable experiance.
It's really sad that these two monstrous yaoguais were once heavenly beings who fell in love with one another, but suffers a tragedy that keeps them apart, possibly for eternity.

Pigsy (Bajie), in his pursuit of Moon Goddess, accidentally bumped into Zi'er (the elder spider lady). Zi'er fell deeply in love with Pigsy at first sight. Later, Pigsy was banished to the mortal realm after exposing the illicit affair between Moon Goddess and the silver haired man who has a high position in the celestial court. Zi'er willingly gave up her immortality to follow Pigsy. Through nine reincarnations, Pigsy wandered, and Zi'er waited. Pigsy transformed from a demon to a Buddha, while Zi’er descended from a deity to a demon. Their destinies, once intertwined, drifted further apart. After completing the fifth chapter, we discover that Pigsy didn't deny their past but feared acknowledging it. Due to the Heavenly Court's persecution, Pigsy worried that being with him would endanger Zi'er, so he resolutely chose to embark on the Journey to the West.
Pigsy, mistakenly reincarnated as a pig, frightened another young lady at the beginning of the story. Yet, despite his pig-like appearance, Zi'er instantly recognized Pigsy's original handsome features in the hot spring. As their hands clasped, Pigsy's initial reaction was self-loathing. He did it so heaven would not attack his lover, which was supposedly inevitable if they stayed together. After all, since WuKong was defeated by heaven, BaJie was too scared to trifle with them.
He keeps his distance to not incur the wrath of heaven and also to seek his own redemption…
This segment of the ending cutscene from Black Myth: Wukong presents a tragic and complex love story involving Tian Peng (later known as Zhu Bajie) and the celestial figures in his past. Unlike traditional depictions, in this retelling, Tian Peng admires the Taiyin Star Lord (not the moon goddess Chang’e). Along his journey, he encounters a celestial maiden, one of the Taiyin Star Lord’s attendants, who holds the title "Chang’e" (since all of her attendants bear this title as an official rank, rather than as an individual name). It is this Chang’e who falls in love with Tian Peng.
Tian Peng's fate takes a sharp turn when he inadvertently stumbles upon a secret meeting between the Jade Emperor and the Taiyin Star Lord. Fearing that his reputation might be tarnished by this discovery, the Jade Emperor punishes Tian Peng by banishing him to the mortal world, where he is transformed into a pig demon.
The Chang’e attendant, unable to forget Tian Peng, sacrifices her immortality and descends to the mortal world, taking the form of a spider demon. She chooses this fate in order to be near him, knowing that it will lead to her eventual death.
When Zhu Bajie, now in his pig demon form, arrives at Gao Village, he mistakes a mortal woman named Gao Cuilan for his lost love, the Chang’e he remembers. Driven by his love and longing, he pursues her, but Gao Cuilan, terrified by Bajie's true form, rejects him. This mistaken identity deepens the tragedy of Bajie's emotional confusion.
As Zhu Bajie continues his journey westward, he eventually reaches the Pansi Cave, where he encounters the reincarnated Chang’e, now in the form of the Spider Demon. She immediately recognizes Bajie despite his pig-headed form. The two fall in love once again, and she gives birth to his daughter. However, due to her absorbing one of Bajie’s six roots (spiritual senses), her fate is sealed, and she knows that her death is inevitable. She chooses to stay with him until the end, waiting in the cave, hoping to show him their daughter.
Before her death, the Spider Demon poignantly remarks, “You’re still as foolish as before.” This statement refers not only to Bajie’s earlier mistake in confusing Gao Cuilan with her, but also to his reluctance to acknowledge their daughter and their love out of fear of retribution from the Heavenly Court. The Spider Demon understands that Bajie’s denial is his way of protecting them from the inevitable consequences of divine punishment.
Though Bajie is harsh towards her in their final moments, both he and the Spider Demon understand the emotional undercurrents beneath their words. Bajie knows that acknowledging his love for her would bring ruin upon them, and his cold words are an attempt to sever ties for their safety. Nevertheless, the Spider Demon knows that Bajie still cares for her and their daughter, and she accepts her fate. In her final moments, the Spider Demon dies with the knowledge that she has seen Bajie one last time.
The entire exchange is a bittersweet reflection of their doomed love. Both Zhu Bajie and the Spider Demon are ancient beings who understand each other's hearts without needing to say much. Their final conversation, despite its apparent harshness, reveals the depth of their love and the helplessness of their situation. The tragic reality is that they are both bound by the rules of the celestial and mortal realms, and their love, though powerful, is not enough to overcome these constraints.
The closing lines of their exchange also carry symbolic weight. The Spider Demon, in a wordplay on “spider” and “pig,” says, “You know what Tian Peng reincarnated as? He became a pig. Then I shall become a spider.” This reflects their inevitable, cyclical fates, predetermined by the heavens. Despite their deep connection, fate has written them into roles where they are destined never to truly be together, like a pair where one spins webs while the other is caught in them. This imagery ties into the ancient ideal of “man plows, woman weaves,” a metaphor for the domestic, agricultural harmony that is unattainable for them in their tragic love story.

In this animation, when Zhu Bajie reverts to his wild boar form, his tusks are intact. However, in the true ending animation, we know that Zhu Bajie's left tusk in his original form was broken by Sha Wujing. In the game, when we fight Zhu Bajie, his left tusk is also broken when he reverts to his original form. Therefore, this encounter with the Spider Demon can be inferred to have occurred before the events of Journey to the West.

In the game, the spider ladys have a mother-daughter relationship (which means that in the game's story, six of the seven spider sisters from were already killed by Zhu Bajie and Sun Wukong in the journey to the west. The young spider ladys in the game never experienced those events, which is also why, in the wedding banquet cutscene, the young spiders don’t fully understand their mother’s feelings.）. In the original story, there were no daughters of the old spider spirit. The daughters were created and adapted by the game's development team.

Game Science has made significant adaptations to the original story. In the original work, there is no character named Zi Zhuer, and the seven spider ladies were indeed killed by Sun Wukong. In the original story, there is a scene where the seven spider ladies secretly bathe in a pool belonging to the celestial maidens of Heaven, and they are discovered by Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie. Sun Wukong, in order to control them, steals their clothes left on the shore, and Zhu Bajie, taking the opportunity, transforms into a catfish, swims into the pool, teases, and eventually scares away the spider ladies. (This scene seems very politically incorrect, but please understand that this is a book written 500 years ago.) The spider ladies then seek their senior brother, the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master, to avenge them, but in the end, they are all killed by Sun Wukong.
Perhaps Game Science took inspiration from this scene, adapted and beautified it to create the love story between Zi Zhuer and Zhu Bajie in the game. The scene in the original work merely serves as an element to spark Game Science’s imagination. In the game’s storyline, we can infer from the dialogue between Zi Zhuer and Zhu Bajie that Sun Wukong didn’t kill all seven spider ladies but spared Zi Zhuer's life. Zi Zhuer was gravely injured and survived by consuming the corpses of her six sisters, which is why she says she hates the monkey the most in her life. I speculate that, in the game’s story, apart from the youngest daughter being confirmed as the child of Zi Zhuer and Zhu Bajie, the other daughters are most likely adopted by Zi Zhuer in the later years.

All the spider children are his kids, the reason his attitude is so shit is because if he shows even an ounce of affection l, they will be punished. By accruing bad karma, he is the only one to be punished, thus sparing his kids and love of any further pain. You can see this to be true when he is especially harsh with his youngest daughter, spider lady knows this which is why she is eternally nice to him.

This is what ive been saying!!! Gamescience mustve worked with at least 5 different animation studios!!! for the different cutscenes! Just those 5 studios alone = AAA polish and resources! more variety diversity!! And the Western journos saying this is an average, mediocre game with nothing to do between fighting bosses!!!??? and no women!!???
Hopefully the DLC or the next few games will have tons of women and waifus!!!! to shut the idiots up! in fact make a whole game full of waifus!!!!
