Hopefully in the near future there can be a Combat patrol box tournament since they are supposed to be 500 pts, the start collecting point values varied too much, and also Deathwatch or BA, SW can be included this time >< instead of half roster of chaos.

We hope you enjoyed the game! Please don't post spoilers in the comments :) Did we mess up any rules? Well, we might have, we play games to have fun after all. Here's a few little mistakes and questions that people haven noticed so far: "You can't use a Command Re-roll for Morale tests!" You're right! You can only force an auto-pass with Insane Bravery for 2CP. Would it have changed the course of the game? Always a possibility. Were those "illegal" rolls entertaining though? YES! Don't forget to play for fun! "You called the Plaguebearers "Poxwalkers" sometimes. How do you plead?" GUILTY. "Disgustingly Resilient doesn't work like that anymore!" If this was Death Guard, you'd be right, but these Nurgle Daemons are using their 8th edition codex in this game, so we did it right. "... but you still can't use a Command Re-roll for Disgustingly Resilient saves!" You are correct, but I failed that one anyway, no harm done, I'm just an idiot ;) "You forgot about some "to hit/to wound" re-rolls" Yes. We did most of them, but when there are so many re-rolls, it's hard to keep track. Also, sometimes we did them in the game, but didn't narrate them. Toward the end, we stopped narrating all the minutiae of each roll to keep the pace of the video nice and tight.
Guy fought with his poxwalkers then his nurglings. After the mawloc had fought then Guy should have only been able to fight with one unit before the genestealers, not two. Also prettying certain you can’t advance when you fall back
@@TheOriginalDruidfish not true. All genestealer and broodlord units have that, regardless of hive fleet. Kraken is roll three pick the highest for advance, and the ability to charge after falling back
The only bad thing about this series is the wait in between battles. Seriously its great to watch, short and to the point coupled with some great edits to cut out the fluff makes for a great watching experience

You made a few mistakes so let me point them out for future games. - the plague bearers cant "choose" to make a morale save unless they have lost a model this turn - they things a CP can be used to re-roll have been limited in 9th and dont include morale or attrition tests. - flying units cant fall back and act as normal on 9th. Fun game and great video guys!
The paint job on those plague bearers is amazing. Honestly I missed everything you said after the first 10 minutes cause I was just staring at those eyes
This series is honestly such a refreshment from the normal battle reports on youtube. Nice and short, brilliantly concise and well spoken commentary. I love these battle reports! But at the rate they are going all the start collecting are going to be phased out and replaced with the "combat patrol" collections. Which is cool I guess. You can always start another tournament and work on those!
Mate, the upcoming Genestealer Cults vs. Drukhari is gonna be an absolute SLAUGHTER with the new Drukhari codex, lmao. Really enjoyed this one. Nurgle models are so damn good at sticking on objectives and just REFUSING to bugger off.

watched this with my boys, and this was their original army choices when they first got into the hobby. watching this was the closest we've come to cheering on a sports match. awesome
Nurglings' unique version of disgustingly resilient ("squishable") was FAQ'd to not work against mortal wounds. So that turn 1 Smite from the Broodlord would have just done all three wounds.
The FAQ didn't change anything. It just clarified it. Nurgling Disgustingly Resilient only works with *attacks* with a *damage characteristic* of 1. So it doesn't work against psychic powers, and while I'm not sure it came up in this video, it also wouldn't work on anything with random damage (even if you rolled a 1, since the *characteristic* is d3 or d6 or whatever)
Have you considered doing an age of sigmar collecting box tourney when the 40k start collecting tourney is over? Not only would it be interesting to see you get into sigmar, it would help us 40k fanboys see how the army’s play, as well as more awesome battle reports!

This series is excellent! I hope you can get back to it soon! I find this better than some "how to play warhammer 40k" instructional videos because it puts all of the components together in an easy-to-digest context, shows how you might play with a common first purchase, and cuts out most of the banter that turns a 30min battle report into an hour. Looking forward to the next one!
With only 2 of those plaguebearers left it was a waste casting miasma of pestilence. Wouldve been better to pump out some extra mortal wounds on the mawloc to get it off that objective. That being said this is some of the best battle report content on RUclips, defo up there with play on tabletop. Keep it up man!
Hi guys Morale can not anymore be rerolled in 9th 🙂 Neither can DR as it is not a "Saving throw" And neither can Combat Attrition and you can't advance when falling back. Enjoyed it either way but the outcome might have changed a lot.
Also they got the falling back rules wrong, the plague drone shouldn't have been able to shoot either, the only units that can without special rules are titanic units.

Yes!! Clear explanations and great quality as usual. A couple mistake I did notice: You can’t advance when you fall back. Did this with the plague drones After all charging units have attacked, you alternate units to attack starting with the player who’s turn it is. I think a few times you started with the other player. I’m sure none of this affected the game. I love this series keep them coming!
There were plenty of errors that absolutely would have impacted the game, in my opinion. #1 of these is not being able to CP re-roll morale. Nurglings should have fled Turn 1. No Nurglings blocking the Genestealers on their first turn would have made for a different game. A Plague Drone should have fled similarly at one point. Plague Drones advancing and charging gave them almost 20" of movement, the ability to fight, and positioning to block the Genestealers, all of which shouldn't have been able to happen in a single turn.
Fantastic series! Love all of these. The Mawloc is so underwhelming. The Trygon or T-prime are both really good since points changes and that kit builds into any of those!
I love these little battles! It really helps me get a feel for how the game plays, in an easy-to-watch format! Its well put together, going through all the battle stages without the tangential chatter that drags out other battle reports. Two thumbs up! 👍 👍
Guy, your batreps and this tournament are soooo much better than the alternatives. Something about the way you narrate and edit them without getting obnoxious makes them insanely easy and enjoyable yo watch. I know it must be rough with the lockdown right now, but I hope you get the proper battle reports going when things stabilize!
Love the start collecting deathmatch series, one of my favourite takes on the battle report. You could have started the Mawloc underground and had him rise from the deep behind the enemy line? - that may have helped with the objective taking

I watched this last night. The more i think about it, the more upset I get. Just because a game is for fun doesn't mean that rules mistakes should be excused when they are so bad, and so severe, that they absolutely would have impacted the outcome of the game. There were many errors on both sides (but most severe on Guy's side), but these are the ones that I think really turned the game and impacted the eventual outcome. - #1 - No CP re-rolls for morale. Nurlgings would have fled Turn 1 and Genestealers could have moved up unhindered on their first turn. This is huge for its potential to change the entire course of the game. - #2 - The Nurgling that survived (that shouldn't have) shouldn't have fought before the Genestealers. Genestealers shouldn't have lost that model. Doubly so because the Nurgling shouldn't have been there at all and again because they fought out of order. - #3 - Plague Drones cannot advance and charge. Moving them 12", then charging 8" and piling in 3" means you managed to move 23" in a single turn that should not have been allowed. This nearly doubled movement is significant because it helped block the center objective, and the fighting when you shouldn't have cost Ant wounds he shouldn't have taken then. If Genestealers had moved up Turn 1, the Plague Drones would have been open to a charge when they advanced Turn 2 (and couldn't go any further than 12") - #4 - Last Plague Drone should have fled. No CP re-roll for morale. - #5 - Plague Drones cannot advance while falling back, meaning they couldn't take that objective in Turn 3. You couldn't do it with your regular movement. But, the Plague Drone should not exist anyway, since it would have fled. If the Plague Drone was gone and therefore couldn't draw the Genestealers and Broodlord away from the center with illegal movement, the Genestealers, Broodlord, and Mawlock could have likely overrun the central blob of Plaguebearers in Turn 3, leaving Guy with only one unit on the board and Ant with complete control going into Turn 4. - #6 - Whoever goes 2nd should score at the end of the turn and not in the Command Phase on the final round. Tyranids ended the game holding 2 points (likely more if previous rules hadn't been broken), and should have scored more, giving a final score of 18. Discounting everything else, this alone should have meant Ant's victory.
This is how battle reports are done. I also love seeing how the board gets more character after each encounter (blood spatter, evidence of explosions, etc.). I look forward to this series continuing!
I love your battle reports because everything is explained and your intentions are clear which helps me learn the game BUT please invest in a Dice tray with a fixed camera over the top. So many out of shot rolls!

Very glad that this series is restarting! I'm a big fan of the in depth army presentation and strategy talk at the start, I think it ads a lot and is great for 40k noobs such as myself
I think what makes theses battle reports so enjoyable, and I believe unique to this channel, is that we've seen almost every step of the hobby journey that brought it all together, from the creation of the lovely arena to the sexy cabochon eyed nurgle demons. When you say that the video took 30-40 hours to make, it's only half the truth, because in reality it's been a journey going back more than 8 months that we've all shared in. Hats off to that Mr Guy!

I'm a smidge surprised the Mawloc's "Terror from the Deep" ability wasn't used turn 1 to mess with the Nurgle home objective or to try to get a big ol AOE hit on the clumped up units. I guess the lack of charging after using it makes it less useful here, hey?
I love your content and enjoyed this video, but I noticed some rules errors that bugged me. The Genestealers should have hit the Nurglings on 3s due to Miasma of Pestilence. The Plaguebearers should have held that objective despite the Mawloc, either due to having more models or Daemonic Legion's objective secured. The Plaguedrones can't charge after advancing, and they can't shoot after falling back (you mention the Fly keyword, but that was changed from 8th to 9th).
There were rules errors that bugged me. But, the obsec issue is not one of them. At the beginning they explained simplified rules which said that no units are obsec and contested objectives score no points. So, while this would be a thing in normal play, it was not with the simplified rules that they agreed to and stated before the game. Re-rolling morale is the first error. The Nurglings should have fled. Then the Genestealers could have moved up Turn 1 instead of being locked up and the game would have been entirely different. You also can't advance while falling back, which I believe was responsible for the DG getting 5 points that turn due to getting on an objective.
One of my favorite parts of the series is the effort you put into each army’s music. Do you think you’ll release each army’s song after the tournament or after they get eliminated?
Despite the errors it's a good video. I know playing a faction you've never played before isn't easy and Guy has a lot going on between the huge channel growth and his home life. While this wasn't my favorite video, I still quite enjoyed it. Not every video has to be a masterpiece, we're only human after all.
Seeing you guys reroll your dice into your already rolled dice makes something in my head tweak in displeasure, haha. You should roll somewhere where it won’t effect the other dice. Love this series tho! Keep em coming.
Gah! You can't advance on a fall back move. Between that and the re-rolled morale tests, sadly the rules mistakes had a big impact on the outcome of that game.
If I were running a game store I'd be recommending these videos to people thinking to pick up 40K, or trying out a new army. It's an excellent exhibition of what each Start Collecting box has on offer, their playstyle, and what's possible in terms of aesthetic.

They teach a newcomer, or confused player more without demoralising them. 2.Did you really make a battlefield for these deathmatch videos? I can see that the walls are integrated into the scenery and have been painted in the exact colour scheme. you also painted on the objective (circle) markings if I am not mistaken... That is dedication to your hobby, channel and fans and that is to be respected ! 3. those nurgle models look great! I would 100% believe that GW began the “Combat Patrol” starter boxes just to make your awesome tournament less relevant.
They announced their new boxes the day after I put out the first Deathmatch... not that I'm bitter about it.

A couple mistake I did notice:
You can’t advance when you fall back. Did this with the plague drones
After all charging units have attacked, you alternate units to attack starting with the player who’s turn it is. I think a few times you started with the other player.
I’m sure none of this affected the game. I love this series keep them coming!
There were plenty of errors that absolutely would have impacted the game, in my opinion. #1 of these is not being able to CP re-roll morale. Nurglings should have fled Turn 1. No Nurglings blocking the Genestealers on their first turn would have made for a different game. A Plague Drone should have fled similarly at one point. Plague Drones advancing and charging gave them almost 20" of movement, the ability to fight, and positioning to block the Genestealers, all of which shouldn't have been able to happen in a single turn.
Fantastic series! Love all of these. The Mawloc is so underwhelming. The Trygon or T-prime are both really good since points changes and that kit builds into any of those!

I love these little battles! It really helps me get a feel for how the game plays, in an easy-to-watch format! Its well put together, going through all the battle stages without the tangential chatter that drags out other battle reports. Two thumbs up! 👍 👍

Guy, your batreps and this tournament are soooo much better than the alternatives. Something about the way you narrate and edit them without getting obnoxious makes them insanely easy and enjoyable yo watch. I know it must be rough with the lockdown right now, but I hope you get the proper battle reports going when things stabilize!
Love the start collecting deathmatch series, one of my favourite takes on the battle report. You could have started the Mawloc underground and had him rise from the deep behind the enemy line? - that may have helped with the objective taking

I watched this last night. The more i think about it, the more upset I get. Just because a game is for fun doesn't mean that rules mistakes should be excused when they are so bad, and so severe, that they absolutely would have impacted the outcome of the game. There were many errors on both sides (but most severe on Guy's side), but these are the ones that I think really turned the game and impacted the eventual outcome.
- #1 - No CP re-rolls for morale. Nurlgings would have fled Turn 1 and Genestealers could have moved up unhindered on their first turn. This is huge for its potential to change the entire course of the game.
- #2 - The Nurgling that survived (that shouldn't have) shouldn't have fought before the Genestealers. Genestealers shouldn't have lost that model. Doubly so because the Nurgling shouldn't have been there at all and again because they fought out of order.
- #3 - Plague Drones cannot advance and charge. Moving them 12", then charging 8" and piling in 3" means you managed to move 23" in a single turn that should not have been allowed. This nearly doubled movement is significant because it helped block the center objective, and the fighting when you shouldn't have cost Ant wounds he shouldn't have taken then. If Genestealers had moved up Turn 1, the Plague Drones would have been open to a charge when they advanced Turn 2 (and couldn't go any further than 12")
- #4 - Last Plague Drone should have fled. No CP re-roll for morale.
- #5 - Plague Drones cannot advance while falling back, meaning they couldn't take that objective in Turn 3. You couldn't do it with your regular movement. But, the Plague Drone should not exist anyway, since it would have fled. If the Plague Drone was gone and therefore couldn't draw the Genestealers and Broodlord away from the center with illegal movement, the Genestealers, Broodlord, and Mawlock could have likely overrun the central blob of Plaguebearers in Turn 3, leaving Guy with only one unit on the board and Ant with complete control going into Turn 4.
- #6 - Whoever goes 2nd should score at the end of the turn and not in the Command Phase on the final round. Tyranids ended the game holding 2 points (likely more if previous rules hadn't been broken), and should have scored more, giving a final score of 18. Discounting everything else, this alone should have meant Ant's victory.
These battle reports are so easy to follow, I really appreciate the format, great work!

This is how battle reports are done. I also love seeing how the board gets more character after each encounter (blood spatter, evidence of explosions, etc.). I look forward to this series continuing!
I love your battle reports because everything is explained and your intentions are clear which helps me learn the game BUT please invest in a Dice tray with a fixed camera over the top. So many out of shot rolls!

Very glad that this series is restarting! I'm a big fan of the in depth army presentation and strategy talk at the start, I think it ads a lot and is great for 40k noobs such as myself
I think what makes theses battle reports so enjoyable, and I believe unique to this channel, is that we've seen almost every step of the hobby journey that brought it all together, from the creation of the lovely arena to the sexy cabochon eyed nurgle demons. When you say that the video took 30-40 hours to make, it's only half the truth, because in reality it's been a journey going back more than 8 months that we've all shared in. Hats off to that Mr Guy!

The battle damage added to the map after each round is an incredible touch. Love the explosion scorch from that spider exploding in the previous ep.

I'm a smidge surprised the Mawloc's "Terror from the Deep" ability wasn't used turn 1 to mess with the Nurgle home objective or to try to get a big ol AOE hit on the clumped up units. I guess the lack of charging after using it makes it less useful here, hey?
I love your content and enjoyed this video, but I noticed some rules errors that bugged me. The Genestealers should have hit the Nurglings on 3s due to Miasma of Pestilence. The Plaguebearers should have held that objective despite the Mawloc, either due to having more models or Daemonic Legion's objective secured. The Plaguedrones can't charge after advancing, and they can't shoot after falling back (you mention the Fly keyword, but that was changed from 8th to 9th).
There were rules errors that bugged me. But, the obsec issue is not one of them. At the beginning they explained simplified rules which said that no units are obsec and contested objectives score no points. So, while this would be a thing in normal play, it was not with the simplified rules that they agreed to and stated before the game.
Re-rolling morale is the first error. The Nurglings should have fled. Then the Genestealers could have moved up Turn 1 instead of being locked up and the game would have been entirely different. You also can't advance while falling back, which I believe was responsible for the DG getting 5 points that turn due to getting on an objective.
One of my favorite parts of the series is the effort you put into each army’s music. Do you think you’ll release each army’s song after the tournament or after they get eliminated?

Despite the errors it's a good video. I know playing a faction you've never played before isn't easy and Guy has a lot going on between the huge channel growth and his home life. While this wasn't my favorite video, I still quite enjoyed it. Not every video has to be a masterpiece, we're only human after all.
Seeing you guys reroll your dice into your already rolled dice makes something in my head tweak in displeasure, haha. You should roll somewhere where it won’t effect the other dice. Love this series tho! Keep em coming.

Great Battle Rep. Two minor points from Turn 1: Deny the Witch has a 24" range and Command Re-rolls can't be used on Morale tests.
Gah! You can't advance on a fall back move. Between that and the re-rolled morale tests, sadly the rules mistakes had a big impact on the outcome of that game.
If I were running a game store I'd be recommending these videos to people thinking to pick up 40K, or trying out a new army. It's an excellent exhibition of what each Start Collecting box has on offer, their playstyle, and what's possible in terms of aesthetic.

they are so different from the typical shoutcasting exagerated style you typically find.
they are so much more calm and accessible, whilst still leave room for (lore)jokes.
They teach a newcomer, or confused player more without demoralising them.
2.Did you really make a battlefield for these deathmatch videos?
I can see that the walls are integrated into the scenery and have been painted in the exact colour scheme.
you also painted on the objective (circle) markings if I am not mistaken...

Oooh! That title is radical, dude; to the max! Those pesky little Nuglings did better than I expected. It seems kind of odd that Genestealers only get one wound each; maybe they'll bet a boost in a new codex. The Eyebearers look so cool.
