@@xicufwm me too
@@xicufwm Warhammer is super fun, you should totally play it. It's an awesome hobby, on top of a fun game, and the community is generally very welcoming.
@@cibo889 the painting and assembly is like my favorite part lol. It’s very enjoyable. Not to mention you don’t need all the rules. You can play with the basic (free) rules and not care about the big rule book, since it’s a tabletop game. All you need then is your codex which you can just flip through when you need to check unit stats. That’s how I played for most of 8th Ed and had plenty of fun.
As somebody who wants to get into playing 40k, thank you so much for doing this in a beginner friendly format.
No problem Robert! Glad you found it useful to get your head around things :)
Great report. I really like the smaller, short game. I find myself zoning out of the huge 2+ hour ones.

Thank you so much! That's very kind to say. A lot of time goes into the edited, so I'm glad you think it's worth it :)

Nah, even if they all died, the orkz would be having the time of their lives.
Is it not obvious? Orks have one of, if not the best codex. While tyranids have one of if not the worst, they have a 30% win score... Still love the tyranids, but gw needs to show them the love they deserve for being the enemy of man

"Worst flamers in the game"
*nearly wipes out entire Gaunt/genestealer swarm*
Guess this goes to show that "worst in the game" doesn't mean it's actually bad.
Imagine if they were good flamers! Haha
@@MidwinterMinis You know what SURE! Put together an army that has what you deem good flamers and let's see what they do. I'm curious now. I've also been anticipating one of the most epic battles in history: MWG(you) vs MWG(you). I've heard these two's tactics and mindsets are so similar they're confused for the same person. If you can convince the other MWG to fight you, try and convince him to use Flamers as well.
I remember back in 5th(?) when burner wagons were madness incarnate
It's in the numbers. Burnas roll a D3 for attacks, the standard Imperial Guard flamer rolls a D6.
.
Of course there are trade-offs and the weapons are used differently in each army, but the burna is mathematically the worst flamer.
"can't miss" is always pretty good.
40K: Come for the lore, stay for the game
The plan worked perfectly ;)
Imagine jumping into a horde of Tyranids, surviving, and then calling all the boyz to watch as they run away. Absolutely fantastic, gotta love Guy's amazing 6s at 28:00!
Just to be clear. Even if your opo pulls a model from 1" of a model as the unit attacks at the same time it wouldn't matter. If it was a separate unit then yes they would not be able to activate.
Absolutely, forgot about that in the heat of battle. Good job though, otherwise we wouldn't have had the tale of Jeff the Genestealer.
True, but also remember that you get a pile in move before a unit attacks.
Jeff the genestealer could have still survive if the orks that were left out just missed their hits XD
Wilberto J Cruz Gonzalez yep, all charging units get pile-in regardless of finding themselves outside of 1”.. if they can’t get there after the 3” pile-in, then they can’t fight. Nice Vid!
damn, wasted my time typing this out too.
was going to say 1 unit resolves all its attacks in 1 sequence
FIGHT SEQUENCE
1. Choose unit to fight with
2. Pile in up to 3"
3. Choose targets
4. Choose melee weapon
5. Resolve close combat attacks
• Make hit roll
• Make wound roll
• Enemy allocates wound
• Enemy makes saving throw
• Inflict damage
6. Consolidate up to 3"
-some people will speed roll with different coloured dice representing the nob attacks
Love the fun lists and small game size! Keep up the battle reports!
Rules notes:
At 7:40 you can't deny attacks from the same unit for removing casualties. This is because at step 3 (before rolling any dice) you choose targets and once you've chosen targets you get to make those attacks regardless of casualties that may be taken away. (NOTE: you can deny attacks from a different unit this way. just not from the same unit)
At 9:40 the wierdboy smites. Smite Always targets the closest target so it would have hit either the genestealers or termigaunts not the broodlord. (there are other powers which can target specific units)
You're quite right! Thanks for pointing that out, we'll remember for next time :)
@@MidwinterMinis No problem (still watching through the video, one last note is that when a unit charges it can still be activated in order to pile in and attack. Thus the boys at 23:40 would get to move up to 3" to try and attack (if no enemies are with 3" then they're out of luck however)
Look forward to more Battle Reports!
@@paladinwiggles7896 He also rolled a 9 to deny, which with Shadow In The Warp would have denied the smite.
@@suchasnack6015 been looking for this comment to check if I was right that it shouldn't and I'm glad I know my shadow in the warp rule ☺
Love these little batreps. Here’s some clarifications that may make your games more enjoyable: if a unit charges, it can still pile in and attack and consolidate. So you can’t actually pull termagants out to keep your orks out of combat unless it leaves them over 4” away and they cant reach with a pile in (you can still pile in 3”). Then Consolidate another 3” (you get both of these movements even if you kill a unit and other chargers didnt get to activate against that unit yet). You still get all of your attacks for your squad after the Nob killed the termies too because they are part of the same squad. Super smite is 11+ and all Smites go against the closest enemy unit. You can only choose a Smite target if two potential targets are equidistant from your psyker. And don’t forget, your psyker gets pluses for being next to boys, I think. Hope this helps.
Keep em coming! (Great paint jobs as usual!) You both had fun and it made the video fun to watch.
Thanks Kevin! Good points :) The only one that didn't apply was the bonus for having Ork infantry near the Weirdboy, it never had enough Orks close enough to get a boost.
BTW love that youre helping other youtubers get more subs. Really cool. But the monty python rabbit made me a faithful viewer. Gets my vote for the greatest model of 2019 (beating Abaddon). Lol
Beat me to it. Good constructive response though! This is the kind of interaction is what the hobby needs more of.
@@joebochinski1693 It always amazes me how hateful people get over rules and stuff, as of they never made a rules mistake or forgot something. Love the "Synthwave" nids! What a perfect description of that color scheme.
I really liked the presentation style! Way easier to view than most other batreps
Thanks for watching Brian!
Love the way the the Battle Report is made, everything is well described and detailed, but I'd like to go over some parts of this match that would be considered mistakes by the book, for anyone who would be interested and maybe for the players themselves.
Bear in mind that this match could have some "homebrewed" ruling that wasn't explained or other rules agreements between the players, and that I am also aware of this.
- 7:40 The ork "out of range" after the Power Klaw attacks could still fight in the Genestealers because the attacks are declared and counted for the whole unit at the same time, not a model at a time.
- 9:42 Smite targets the closest visible unit, so it couldn't target the Broodlord.
- 10:05 The smite was -1 to cast so the roll was an 8, the Broodlord got a 9 on deny, which is over the 8 and should've denied.
- 15:36 Smite deals D6 mortal wounds on a charge of more than 10, not 10+
- 18:10 The orks coming out of the destroyed Trukk should've taken a casualties on 1s, rolling a d6 per model that survived the disembark.
- 18:24 The Termagants could've been selected to attack because they charged. That would've let them pile in and consolidate towards the surviving orks, but not attack them as the Burna Boys could not have been declared as a charge target.
- 23:10 Again, the Burna Boy and Weird Boy would've been able to be selected to fight because they charged; And for the same reason the Boys woud've been able to fight even when out of 1"
Amazing summary, thanks mate! Yes, you're totally right. A few things missed here and there, but we still had fun :)
This is probably the best comment for this video. Thanks for taking the time to explain these rule discrepancies for a newcomer like me.
I LOVE the opponent describing the turn. It makes it seem that both players know each other's armies and I like that for some reason
Yeah! That's the aim, really :) Glad you like it
Also, these narrations on the bat reps are epic!!!
Thanks mate! I enjoy doing them :)
Man no idea what's better the amazing paint job by you guys or the awesome battle reports! You guys are the best
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed it :)
This whole thing was just a good time for Da Orkz. Dey got some good fightin' in!
13:17 This whole deal of the truck ramming Jeff reminds me of the cinematic for StarCraft Terran mission 3. "Looks like you mashed some poor feller's dog, sarge."
"That's a Zerglin', Lester."
Yep, this channel has recovered my faith in Wh40k, that was an excellent battle report and just with a few points, much more interesting than the gigantic battles. Also I'm absolutely in love with the theme, is so catchy...
Keep up the good work!
Thanks mate! Glad you're enjoying the videos and the music :)
Your opponent earned, nay DESERVED you pulling off the four sixes save for all his cheesy "tactical termagant removals"…
Haha, you've gotta have a little cheese in a 40k game, just for flavour ;)
It does feel a little cheap and weird.
As far as my knowledge goes for 40k games, if you're meaning the removals at around 7:50, the squad attacks at the same time (as initiative is a thing of the past); so there shouldn't have been a chance to remove models to prevent the Ork models from being part of the fight.
@@frostmagemarii I think someone else mentioned something similar. I'm also not fluent in 8E rules, but just the thought that someone might think that's kosher guarantees they're not the sort of opponent I'd like to (or willingly) play against, especially if the rules don't allow for those sorts of shenanigans; it's just baseline unsporting.
@@Kingboy Against the Genestealers it wouldn't have worked, because the Boss Knob was in the same unit as the Boyz, so they'd all attack at the same time.
Against the Termagants it would have worked, because the Burner Boy wasn't in the same unit as the Boyz.
Also note that after you choose what to attack with, you pile in, then you choose targets.
So if even one the the Boyz was within an inch of a Termagant, they'd be able to be chosen as a unit to fight and they'd have 3 inches to work with to get some Boyz in range.
AND if another unit was closer to some of those Boyz you could actually pile in some models toward that other unit. You just have to move each model closer to the closest model when piling in, it doesn't have to be toward the unit the attacking unit is already within an inch of because you choose targets after piling in.
However, units that charged in the turn cannot target a unit they didn't charge in that turn.
After the attack you can consolidate up to 3 inches which again has to be closer to the nearest enemy model.
This can put you into melee range of a unit that wasn't in range before, which can have the downside of opening combat with a unit that wasn't in combat previously, but has the upside of being capable of locking them out of shooting if they can't kill enough enemies to disengage from combat.
It's all quite nice to know if you're using Hormagants rather than Genestealers.
While Genestealers are generally more deadly, Hormagants can slip through defenses to tie up shooters and sometimes dodge some overwatch fire that Genestealers would have to worry about, due to having 6 inches for piling in and consolidating.
Again, you can pile in on a unit you didn't charge, if it's closer to your models, you just can't declare an attack on it.
Or I guess now you can give your Genestealer's Adrenal Webs instead of taking a Warlord trait and let them consolidate 2D6 instead of 3. Holy hell.
Your battle reports are the only ones I actually watch all the way through. The little story bits at the beginning and end are excellent. Overall reminds me of the tasty "hands only" cooking videos. Boils the game down to its essentials and you don't spend half the time in pointless non-game related banter. It's the perfect battle report, I wish there were more like it.
Exactly! Thanks Howard, we put a lot of effort into these, it's good to know they're enjoyed so much :)

@@MidwinterMinis that was a good list honestly. Using 2 units that aren't considered "meta" in larger games. Gotta love the diversity orks bring.
This was great I've always struggled to understand how everything works and you guys just made it all so easy to follow and fun to follow along with. New subscriber and I'll be watching everything as time goes :) Great work gents thanks for the content!
8:00 _Hits 11 coin tosses from a possible 17._ "Oh dear, that is a lot of misses." *Huh?*
Love these 500pt games!
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
9:40 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you can only target the CLOSEST visible enemy unit with smite.
You're right! :)
Also the best videos on RUclips for warhammer battles. Please make more! :)
Thank you Deiter! :) We'll do our best
23:30 boys can be activated and pile in. They have charged this turn. It was in FAQ
Nice! We'll do that next time :)
they did it wrong both times, no tactical deaths work in this scenario, pile in happens when units are selected to attack, and in the previous one, targets are chosen BEFORE weapons are chosen to start doing damage, thus range no longer matters, as you have already completed the units "choose targets" section which has the 1" of 1" rule.
It is like shooting, It doesn't matter if you shoot your long range and then your short range with the same units, the measures have already been taken for range. This is unlike previous editions, because they wanted to bring back the ability to choose which model dies, however this was removed previously BECAUSE people chose tactical deaths.
Now we don't have much "deathscumming" and is the best of all worlds.
My favourite battle reports, always looking forward to a new video from you Midwinter!
Thanks Oliver! We love putting them out :)
7:35 Far as I know you can't remove models to deny attacks in that instance because you roll for the "unit", so the Boys fight the same time as the Nob. Now if he were a lone surviving Nob from a Nob Squad, then yes those boyz would have lost attacks.
You're right! We'll remember that for next time :)
mate, these reports are awesome, I love the small skirmishes. Keep them coming!
We'll do our best :)
Penny's voice is a bit off at the start...
She just woke up ;)
@@MidwinterMinis so that's what necrons sound like when they first awaken....
That slow zoom-in on the one from the reroll for the burna is such a mood.
9/10 not enough proper sneaky purple Orkz
I like the timing tho, just last Sunday i fought Nids with my AdMech and wiped the floor with them pesky buggers
Maybe there were more, you just couldn't see them? ;)
This battle report was GREAT! It was especially fun to have the player doing the commentary for their opponent's turn.
I don't even care for 40K much (love the models, not that into the game) and I still watched all the way through and was quite excited with the outcome.
That's what we love to hear! Thanks for watching mate :)
I feel like these games are decided at the list building stage.
We only let each other know what army we are, not the list. Don't worry, it's winner stays on, best of 3. Ant's next list will be specially designed to take this on.
@@MidwinterMinis Fair enough, just 'guants and the like were going to have a hard time against something like a Deff Dread. The battle report itself is solid. The battle itself was a little underwhelming though.
@@Terrat1na Nah. It was tight. Helluva first turn.
Really enjoy these battle reports. Just getting interested in warhammer and although the 2000+ points battles are cool yours is much more realistic for myself. That and the commentary is really well done. Love how you swap between the two of you. Keep up the good work
Cheers mate! It's a fun format to make, honestly :)
Keep up the awesome work and i look forward to the next one😁
Any painting tutorials coming up for that paint job on the Tyranids? Been looking for that synthwave aesthetic theme for AGES
I've asked Ant to show me his dark arts, maybe he will!
@@MidwinterMinis One can hope!
I really prefer these skirmishes as opposed to huge battle reports where its difficult to keep track of everything going on. With so many lords or war and all kinds of other nonsense it’s nice to see the infantry and smaller vehicles get some love. Thanks for the great video!
Yes! For me, 40k will always be about the "bread and butter" units slogging it out. That said, it would be fun to see some big things taking chunks out of each other too... maybe one day ;)
Midwinter Minis So you’re saying a Warlord Titan speed paint video is on the horizon?
