I'm probably your oldest subscriber (70 yesterday!), but I wanted to say, please never apologize for who you are - you are wonderful!! I enjoy your decorating tips and shopping adventures, but I watch because I enjoy your personality so much!!
I’m 6’2 and I hang things high because it’s my house, I’m the one looking at it, and I don’t want to stare at the top edge to accommodate the rest of the world 😂
1st...as a government employee who leaves work every day at 2:30...just be aware I start work at 6am. LOL! Also the low glass bowl used as a vase is so gorgeous. Love your eye for unusual pieces being used in unusual ways. It's what makes your personal traditional style pop for me. Love you and your stuff. Keep posting. You are amazing.
Lisa Martin, my condolences for all the Saturday mornings you didn't get to sleep in. My dad worked for the Department of the Interior in the 70s and 80s, but at least in that job he still got Saturdays & Sundays free. Take care of you!!
Hi, Caroline. I was amazed by the framed watercolor you show at 13:19 because I recognize the place in the painting. It is Passau, Germany, a city close to my home. If you search images for the title of the artwork, "Donaulände", you will find photos showing the river cruise ships as well as the buildings and steeples that form the skyline. Donaulände means Danube Park, and there are several places with this name dotted along the river. Passau is one of the most famous ones because three rivers merge together there, and Linz, Austria, is another one. I just thought you might like to know a little about the art you chose. I'm originally from Massachusetts, but moved to Austria in '94, near Linz, and I have been to Passau many times! Love your channel and enjoy your commentary. Keep up the great work.
had to stop to see it again closely as well - I'm Austrian and lived in Linz for some years and was not sure in which angle that could be Linz...so thanks for saving me time to search for where this Donaulände is at :)
Re: guilty feelings with Mr. Henry street. I relate. You could send that man flowers. You could bring him one of your arrangements next time in Virginia. Sometimes kindness is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. He just made the first move. Ok I am editing myself. That last comment was waaay Hallmark. I hope that you see through that and know that it's meant to be ------ insert however you take this.
Per your suggestion I stopped by Henry Street Antiques when I was in Alexandria this past weekend. Paul was such a kind gentleman and I found this beautiful portrait of a Japanese woman in a kimono painted on silk. There was a portrait of a man too but I was really only interested in the lady. He told me that they were a married couple and I could tell he hoped to keep the set together, so he offered me a great deal on the other painting so that I could take them both home. Loved this shop!
You scored big time.. I am 73 years old and I only starting thrifting about 7 or 8 months ago. I have recently embraced Boho Decor and the Thrift Stores are a gold mine for scoring Vintage pieces. I have having a ball with it.
I'm sure Paul from Henry's Antiques would tell you he's running a shop and not a museum. Not only was he able to make the sale, he scored an A+ recommendation and possibly a repeat customer. While the other shops had lovely things, they didn't make the sale. I guess I'm recommending that you let go of your guilt. They were able to make some money, you got a deal that made you happy and your place looks great. It's a win-win-win.
Hi Caroline! I discovered your channel about a month ago and you are exactly what the world needs. It makes me happy to see your subscriber count grow literally every day! I predict that someday you'll be a household name. Specifically, I could totally picture you hosting a design show or gameshow someday. Maybe a design gameshow? Love your honesty and humor. It's also refreshing not to see barn doors or shiplap...Keep doing what you're doing!
Caroline I just love your energy! "I am a lot ruder in person" is probably a disclaimer I should put anywhere as well :D Beacause in a world where everyone is their edited self online, you have this fresh, bold energy that I like spending time with . Thanks for that! :)
Hello Caroline, Had a fun time thrift shopping with you today. And, I must say, the way you wrapped frames around that corner by the FP was genius! Everything looks great!
@@Caroline_Winkler awwwwww, thank you Caroline, too sweet! And I did watch the 1st part of the bedroom makeover at your Mom's. I had actually seen it before and really like it. And wow, all those trophies. But am not surprised! You are undoubtedly superior at anything you put your mind to. Looking forward to seeing Part 2 of the makeover. Loved the mirrors above the nightstands!!! And a good tip about making a room look larger. You go girl!
I worked at Goodwill for longer than I care to admit but we always had a staggering amount of artwork. A lot of 90s still life's and what looked to be failed 4th grade art projects. But every once in a while, there would be a nice watercolor or vintage print or clown portrait. Never knowing what you'd fine was definitely part of the allure for a lot of people
I always look forward to your videos❤. I've been struggling with my identity after dealing with the pandemic and then cancer. Your videos have helped me feel so much more optimistic. I can't explain why but thank you!
Omg you were in my neighborhood!!! I live in Old Town and absolutely adore it there. Next time you go, I’d recommend checking out the Torpedo Factory by the riverfront! It’s a great to shop original art pieces directly from the artists at a variety of price points (they sell originals as well as prints and printed canvases that usually run for much cheaper). Such an incredible array of artistic styles too. I’m gonna have to check out Henry Street Antiques now! 😁
"Look at me assuming I'm going to heaven." 😂 Loved this video. And I also share your love of vintage glassware. Also, I'm betting Paul was thrilled that a young person appreciated his items. Don't feel guilty!!
Your lust for original artwork doesn’t need to be shelved till your income gets better. Consider buying student art. Attend some art school shows, there’s a lot of really great works to be found by some folks who are bright, innovative, talented……and poor! Also, keep being your hilarious genuine self! We love your channel!
Can I just say you've been a breath of fresh air. I'm 67 been decorating and redecorating my whole life, just ask anyone that knows me. You candid approach is youthful, inspiring, and real. We all have our stuff to deal with. Keep up the good work!
Loved the flowers and the fact that you took these apparently so-so objects and made them beautiful in your apartment. The way you arranged things on the wall, gorgeous.
Thrifting is my jam, and it happens almost every weekend, it's what I grew up doing and I love my finds. I would say the majority of what I own both clothing and decor is acquired through a thrift store or antique. I like your humor it's the one reason why I subscribed
Sold my house in Phoenix this summer and moved back to Central Kentucky, nearer to my children and granddaughters. Brought only what fit in my little sedan, which easily fit into the basement room I rented from my sister. This is temporary while I look for the ideal modest home, 8-900sf, for a single, still working grampa at 63. No hurry, arranging financing and letting the local market cool. Know what I want, semi-minimalistic elegance. Your home is the perfect model, down to the zero live plants. The cut flowers bring a constant refresh without rearranging the furniture. Genius. Been kind of binging, for your presentation on all subjects, ethics and integrity are so refreshing. You don't always wear makeup, which is healthy and unnecessary, but when you do it's the same approach, minimalistic elegance. Also understand you feeling lonely, yet comfortable in the freedom of being alone. A conundrum indeed. Thanks for being here for us. We appreciate your presence.
I just subscribed. I live in Canada and love interior design. I’m 79 y/o and enjoy decorating my condo. You have such good taste. Nice job choosing your artwork and hanging it just right. You are so genuine. Really enjoyed this video. Look forward to more. Thanks 🤗
I live in the DC metro area. I like the Antique Emporium on Prince St in Frederick, MD, the antique store on Broad St in Falls Church, and antique markets at the Dulles expo center. I find Alexandria a bit pricey for antiques. I will try these shops you visited, though.
LOL Well I am 71 (so right there with you!!) and really enjoy her creativity, humour, and the fact she, even at my age is giving me lot's of ideas. She's great!!!
I found this video at exactly the right time. I live in Maryland and just finally moved into my own apartment so thrifting is very much on my horizon. I’m using this as a personal recommendation
I appreciate so much that you openly talked about loving some pieces and understanding their value but just not being in the budget “right now”. So many design influencers I follow have a huge budget compared to me and it creates some unrealistic expectations and I will admit it, some jealousy on my part! It’s nice to see a real human doing design :) ps. Please be more rude and funny, we’re here for it lol
The artwork on the walls looks fantastic! And dying at the comment about the people in the crosswalk, "I want to help people but then they give me a look... and they're on their own." 🤣🤣🤣 My feelings exactly
1) It’s hung too high. LOL Hung a tiny bit lower than the mirror keeps the mirror as the main focal point. It’s fighting. But you do you! 2) Senor is Santa in disguise. 3) Love a good mat-thank you for reminding me 4) Where do you get mats? Do you make your own? I find antique prints don’t fit. 5) You are on my “ What I’m thankful for” list this week. Thank you.
I lived in your neighborhood 30 years ago & used to shop for cheap vintage furniture on Columbia Rd. in Adams Morgan. Probably not so cheap now. Great design tips mixed with introspection. 😀
I hate how much I love your channel. I need some kind of Caroline detox program! Content. Energy. Authenticity. Creativity. Honesty. Bad-assery 😉❤️ I know you have a few other jobs to do but I would sure love more content from you. Fellow designer here and you get my creative juices flowing when I feel stuck. Bless you, cutie!
That gallery corner in your bedroom. Whoa! It is seriously amazing and I've never seen anything quite like it. Very inspirational. The way all your purchases came together was exciting!
Today’s blog is perfection. 👌🏼 Just the right blend of information, interesting things to look at and your fun personality and honest conversation. Nice work! 🙌🏼
If you ever want to take a longer drive, come on out to The Old Lucketts Store in Loudoun County. They have amazing affordable finds, food trucks, a wine garden, and an incredible design house updated by season. It’s about an hour away and a perfect day trip from DC!
I don’t remember in which video a subscriber mentioned there is a Seinfeld-esque way about you, which was weird cause that very thought had crossed my mind several times. Yes, and someone who is ‘somebody’ is gonna recognize you for All things Caroline (my suggestion for the name of your series) & make you an even bigger star than you are to those of us who have already recognized your value. We love you. Stay centered AND off kilter. You’re a natural - keep on keeping on, Caroline.
Oh, yes--the balance of introspection and fury. I donate and shop at Goodwill. It's very pleasant and easy to donate there, and I appreciate that. When I'm shopping there, I try to have in mind the cost of things in real life. More than once I have seen a used item priced for more than it costs at Target (or somewhere else).
I could not wait to get back home today for your video. Loved shopping with you. Keep doing you and tell everyone else to 'stay in their lane'. You always make me laugh. Have a great week Caroline. 😀
I seriously love your videos! I too am working towards being more offensive towards people, 😂 I have an issue with being too nice and allowing people to take advantage of me,...a gift my saint of a mother passed down to me...but I'm so over it, and at the age of 30, as a mom of 3, I feel like it's about damn time I learn to speak my mind and become less concerned with people getting upset with me. Thank you for sharing yourself with us all, your videos so much fun to watch! ❤️
I absolutely love you! I’m 55 and have finally reached the age where I don’t give a flip about what people think of me. I’m old and bitchy and proud of it. As Dr Seuss said, or maybe he didn’t, those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind. Either way, just be you, and your tribe will love you, and the rest can feck off.
Hi Caroline! I, too am an older fan. 74. I think 😂. I discovered you two days ago and have watched so many of your videos. Like 20 at least. I enjoy your running dialogue so much. Thank you.

I'm sure he was happy to make her a good price because she was appreciative and excited about her findings. I'd give a customer a better price if I saw he loved the stuff a lot.

Thank you.
Your spirit is electric
You're great! Almost crying when asking for people to subscribe, I love how open you are in these videos. :)
You are a breath of fresh air ❤️❤️
Love your honest, vulnerable, self-depreciating, wicked humour. And the decorating hacks and ideas for a budget are an added bonus. Keep doing you girl

Took me a minute but I like that you just say what you want & NEED to LET OUT at that moment without being a phony or TRYING HARD and feel you need to "act" to BE LIKED by us out here watching you on our divides 📺 📞 📱. Don't like watching those who try hard to be liked or are copy caters that mimic & copy other you tubers.
PLEASE keep ture to yourself and good things will follow 😊
Love, love, love your videos! ☺️💖 Born and raised in DC and it’s just so much fun to see you out and about in the DMV. I enjoy your style very much. I need more art in my life!

I'm sure he was happy to make her a good price because she was appreciative and excited about her findings. I'd give a customer a better price if I saw he loved the stuff a lot.
