Oh I have been there done that. I had my entire exterior house painted and then hated it. I had panic attacks. It was awful. And I couldn’t afford to redo it. But then…the sun came to the rescue (live in AZ). About a year later the color I hated faded to a color I could live with. And I lived with it for about ten years. Recently I painted my house a more neutral color palette, with a crazy cool hot pink/orangey/red door that everyone loves. Lesson: When painting your exterior house, save crazy for things you can easily change, like your door. 😂 I admire your honesty and your gumption in redoing your space (that is the GREAT thing about a small bathroom…it is good for experiments). Blessings dear Caroline! Thanks for being awesome.

This happened when my parents first painted the house they built. They did a test patch, but in a shady area, so the nice pastel yellow they picked turned out to be super neon bright in the sunlight. They hated it, plus neighbors complained, but they were super broke after finishing the house and couldn't afford to repaint. It faded to pastel after about 3 years and stayed that way for another 15.

So usually I would not say anything about it because it really isn’t the point of this video.. but as a digital artist.. I thought I should maybe put this information out here in case someone doesn’t know about this. These Art AIs use datasets that include all images- which means they include images made by all other artists too, current living artists who didn’t consent for their works to be used in training an AI. Without the work of these artists, the AI would be not be as good because public domain images are not a large enough data set on their own. With their work in there, it’s good enough to potentially threaten commercial art jobs. You could even use a particular artist’s name and generate work in the style of a contemporary working artist too. Although artists are not a monolith and AI itself is a very exciting piece of tech.. i do feel comfortable saying that the majority sentiment around this is that these AI, in their current form, are unethical. As Chat GPT, mid journey etc become more popular.. I’d say it’s at least good to know what’s at stake.

This is a really impactful transformation and I love the wallpaper. The cassic William Morris pattern exudes a lot elegance and transforms a small plain rental bathroom to a chic boutique hotel like powder room. To make the space feel warmer, I would have stained the trim the same colour of the trash bin, fixed wooden trims over the tiles showing from the shower also stained same as trash bin, paint the mirror frame to create faux dark wood visual effect or brass effect, and either hang velvety drapes over one side of the shower in a warm dark golden shade or paint the white walls in a warm toned colour a or two shade darker than the buds in the walllpaper with golden undertones. Good job! Looking forward to Part II!

    @jenniferlynn3537 Год назад +1

Caroline, while I would never say I like watching you in pain, your acknowledgment that you hated the main design feature you selected came as a HUGE relief to me. Really - this makes me so happy.
There have been times when I spent precious dollars on a decor item, only to be hugely disappointed once it was in my home. “What’s wrong with me?” I’d berate myself, “Don’t you even understand what you like?” I’d call myself impulsive, irresponsible, a spendthrift...
And then I’d beat myself up some more over how I clearly don’t deserve to be happy with my decor because I can’t be trusted to choose nice things or to spend money wisely. I’d get mad at myself, and give up.
I see now that these “errors in imaginings” happen to the best of us. Sometimes we don’t know how we’ll feel about something before testing it out. Sometimes we love the way something looks in someone else’s space, and it doesn’t work in our own... whatever. There are a plethora of things that can go sideways in any creative endeavor.
I guess the moral of the story is that we’re all just trying our best, and life is a series of attempts and lessons and adjustments and refinements. I’m not to blame... it’s just something that happens.
So thank you for this valuable life lesson! I’ll bet you never realized how much your struggle would end up freeing someone of their angst!

@@Caroline_Winkler Yes, the mirror was especially off.
I think what I like about your taste is that you find things that are mainstream tasteful and cool, plus vintage/thrifted/diy so it feels really smart, plus you always find things that have some element of surprise (which I think is a lot like your fantastic sense of humor, btw. Cool and smart with a surprise). Octogonal trash cans, framed stoic faces watching you sleep, lamps-turned-art, deejaying milkmaids.
I think with the curved porcelin and the curved chrome and the frosted shower glass everything was already soft and rounded, so the large scale soft sage wallpaper stepped even more in that direction and, I agree, doesn't really work, it's just too predictable. I think the checker tile broke the curves, which was nice. The trash can is beautiful on its own. The trim was surprising, I did like that, but the matching mirror is rough.
You would know more than me, obviously, but maybe the mirror could be black? I know it's a rental, but I think it would be so pretty as stained wood (especially with the bespoke trashcan).

The trashcan is beautiful and very renter friendly so not a bad expenditure at all , you will probably love it till you die. My problem was that you cannot change the tile in the shower and that warm colour glows through the shower door which is essentially, the biggest wall space you have. It's easier to lean in to what you cannot change to avoid a sense of disconnect every time you walk into the room. I cannot wait to see part 2! Bathrooms with no windows are tricky. Caroline, I so appreciate you being honest with your feelings about the result because it removes the false impressions people have about interior design. I think a lot of people hesitate to decorate out of fear of not getting it "right" in one go and that being talented at design means every project is mistake-free, when in reality it's a process and sometimes things don't go as planned.
The bathroom looks beautiful--IMO--and there were many good takeaways but I get what you mean about striving for maximum titillation in your space. You don't know unless you try. Looking forward to part 2!

Thank you for sharing this fail. I, too, have worked tirelessly to save things that I felt were not turning out well early on in the project and it has never worked! I think it is part of human nature to not want to redo work, there is just some part of us that mentally rebels against going backwards even though we absolutely know deep down that we are on the wrong path. We will tell ourselves anything to rationalize our actions and we’re not even aware of what we’re doing. I am so glad that you are redoing this bathroom and I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

i love this video because of your extreme reactions in both directions to the wallpaper and trash can. sometimes we viscerally hate things that others think are just fine or even beautiful. sometimes we love things deeply and desperately that others could not imagine spending that much money on. both are valid. that's what makes interior design so special! just because something is subjective doesn't mean it isn't significant.

I can’t see a damn thing without my glasses, but they were in the way of my bangs so I took them off. So I lined the scissors up to the absolute perfect angle, them promptly cut off half my eye brow. Good times.

Caroline .. Maybe one suggestion that could help with the final result. It is still possible to use warmer light tone bulbs .. If you are using 6500K ones try to buy some LED 5300K one or even warmer light bulbs.. I really think that that small bathroom came out really amazing so I´m not sure what else to suggest (if you don´t plan to rip it off a put a new one in) :D Still thanks for the great video..

I think maybe finding a wallpaper that could tie in some the warm colors of the original tile might make it feel more cohesive. Like the pillows on your sofa that are orange. So find a wallpaper with a bit of orange and/or gold. It also might have been more of a challenge to show people what they can do with tile they are stuck with. I do really like the styling on top of the toilet. That looked great.
