Dresses are not necessarily feminine ....in many cultures and during the middle ages men have worn "dresses" everyone wore dresses back then...I don't know how a piece of clothing could define femininity for me that's to shallow ...I personally think dresses are very impractical and I prefer wearing pants that does not make me less feminine or less in touch with my feminine side...

I feel more me in a dress, but it's not to say everyone should, its personal preference. I also feel men can wear pink ties , or a kilt to an event or a beard with a suit . so what? each of us will do what's comfortable in clothes for ourselves. if we enjoy breathing ... breathe. just my two cents worth.

My husband and I have 3 boys. When he was taking a lot of military trips, the boys wanted to wrestle with me, the way they would play with Dad. I started wearing dresses to show my young boys that there's a difference between boys and girls. I never expected that wearing dresses would make me feel different. Now, I wear them all the time. I enjoy that feeling. God made me a girl, and I am appreciating it.

But I have two little daughters now and feel a desire to model femininity for them, especially in a culture where it isn’t cherished. It’s interesting how gentleness and peace seems to come from embracing the delicate and feminine.

I’m 54 years old. In the 90s, I wore a dress everyday because I loved Laura Ashley dresses so much. I loved how I felt wearing LA dresses. After Princess Diana died, so did the popularity of Laura Ashley dresses. My MIL, who didn’t dress up, kept commenting how I shouldn’t be wearing dresses just to lounge around. I started not wearing dresses as much. I felt lost many years of who I truly am. About 4 years ago, I decided to start wearing dresses again everyday. I feel pretty all the time. I made a close friend in my early 20's that totally changed my perspective on clothing. Till then I wore blue jeans every day and dresses to church. Till I met this woman who was like a real fairy and she wore skirts or dresses every single day. She was very active and bouncy so she always wore footless tights with them. I found myself adopting a similar style which I continued with even after our lives sent us down different paths. It's now been 17 years since I met her and I still wear dresses and skirts 90% of the time. I love how I feel in them and and do agree that dresses are the easiest thing to put on, you don't have to match anything. Skirts take a bit more work having to find a shirt that goes well with it. What you wear really does affect how you act, because it affects how you FEEL! I’m a 25-year-old GenZ woman, and I too have gone through this transformation; 2 years ago for me.
I mistakenly thought throughout my teens and early 20s that femininity is the same as “girly”, and I associated “girly” with words like bimbo, vapid, silly, Barbie-like, attention-seeking.
I dressed completely androgynously, and acted very masculine (as a result). Most people assumed I was a butch lesbian, even though I’m straight!
But then 2 years ago I read “Captivating” by Staci Eldridge, and it completely changed my perspective on how _being a woman_ COMES WITH femininity, and femininity means being _graceful, soft, vulnerable, beautiful, kind, gentle, nurturing, sensual, and flowing as a dress._
And once I started wearing dresses, I felt the EXACT same way you do.
Wearing dresses and skirts makes me FEEL graceful, gentle, lovely, and soft, even when I’m just doing chores.
Then I can change back into jeans and a hoodie and I immediately feel more shlumpy, casual, average-looking, androgynous, and _not_ feminine.
It’s the biggest life hack ever to FEEL the way you want to seem - and then when you _feel_ that way, you _become_ that. 🥰

I started wearing and buying dresses for a few reasons. I love the feminine vibe I have when I wear a dress. I have lost 38 kilos since 2017 through diet and exercise and the best, most economical way to stretch your wardrobe is through dresses! Yes! It is one garment from top to bottom that is flattering your changing figure. If you choose the right styles for your body, dresses will last much longer than jeans as your body changes shapes. I was also very happy to love dresses by the time I got my abdo-plasty. Dresses are much more comfortable. I'm starting to date and in a dress I just feel more confident and put together. so long, we women have had to fight for everything we have. It's interesting you say that. I have been wearing dresses for the past three years almost every day, now officially every single day, and I thought that I would get comments like that, but I really haven't. I have only gotten one from someone I know very well who after a while of seeing me wear dresses asked how I feel about her wearing very casual clothes. But, I could tell it was a very genuine question, and she didn't ask it in a rude way. I just straight-up told her "absolutely not, I don't judge you by the way you dress". We are also both Christians so I told her that I admire her for so many other characteristics, especially her faith which is more important, and that she's beautiful either way.
Side note, I also don't do it for Christianity's sake or for modesty. I just genuinely like dresses better, for how I feel in them and because of how easy they are to put on. I didn't tell her that because she already knows. But, I don't do it for that reason so I also don't judge her for not wearing dresses for religious reasons either.

I’m a 51 year dress wearer! I’ve never worn pants publicly. (I wear them as PJs, or in the privacy of my home while cleaning.) I can tell onlookers three things about dress wearing: 1. It DOES feed your femininity. I wear a skirt even to snow ski and when people ask why I tell them, “I’m an ACTUAL feminist. I stand for my right to be feminine.” 😜😅 2. Wearing a dress doesn’t always feel special. I sometimes feel as blah in my dress as I do in my cleaning sweats. Because even the pretty dress becomes “just clothes.” 3. I don’t need a pant suit to be the boss. I am a creator and I constantly organize teams. I have to direct, lead, guide, tell, exemplify… all the leadership things. And a dress has never made me feel weak or less-than. And yet, I am fully engaged with the scriptural teaching of submission and subjection. And I’m sure that my efforts to be feminine (my right of fimininity😉) has made the nature of being in my God-made role easier.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VID. You did it beautifully!! 🥰

Full time maxi dresses/skirts (even for winter and home improvement) has gotten me thru years of chronic illness. Not only comfort but feeling put together when I feel at my worst. Thrift store dresses with some high end jewelry feels pretty good. And yes, an interesting social experiment is how people treat you in public… excessively courteous, opening doors, approachable, unassuming, but occasionally underestimated (charging more at the smog check, etc). But mostly it just feels good… I don’t need to conquer the world anymore.

Dress/Skirt lover for life here. When I was a kid growing up in China, I looked forward to the beginning of summer every year because we were only allowed to wear dresses/skirts in the summer back then. When I moved to the United States, people used to ask me all the time: What's the occasion? I was like: No occasion. I'm just wearing a dress. I still wear dresses/skirts every day, unless I have to wear pants for some outdoor activities. Wear whatever makes you happy and confident. Ignore what other people wear. If they want to be casual or sloppy, it's their business. I'm not gonna call them out. And I'm not going to wear sweat pants, shorts every day just because other people do that. Dresses are so comfortable too, much more comfortable than restrictive jeans or pants, but they are 100 times more flattering than sweats.

I used to always wear pants. Then a few years ago I decided to dress like everyday is a special day and not worry what other people think. At the same time I realised that wearing a dress is the fastest way to get ready since it's only 1 item! I also feel like I am always ready for anything as I don't have to worry about 'getting dressed' if someone knocks on the door or if I have to go somewhere. I also rarely wear make up anymore or even jewellry as a dress is a complete outfit and it takes only 1 minute to go from being in bed to ready to walk out the door. And yes it feels great and people are mostly kind to me as well.

I recently started wearing dresses more often and I noticed everything you did. You are not crazy. The clothes we wear affect our behavior and the way other people treat us. I feel better in a dress. Yesterday I almost wore jeans and a t-shirt so I would "look normal" while going to a class outing. I wanted to wear a dress because I like the way it feels and how it looks, but I didn't want to stand out and look "too formal." After trying on several outfits, mixing and matching with jeans and crop tops, I went with the dress. I wasn't comfortable in my jeans. Sometimes I feel great in jeans, but I'm tired of forcing myself to wear them so I'll "fit in" and "look normal" whether that's at work or school. When I put on that dress, I felt the change. I smiled and I felt pretty. I felt put together. I told myself that it wasn't my fault if I was the best dressed in the room, and it certainly isn't a bad thing. In the end, no one sneered at me, no one made a rude comment, and I ended the day feeling pretty and confident.
If you want to wear the dress because it makes you feel good, wear it.

I also often have men open doors, carry things, offer to help if the car needs oil, too many times to even count. Every time, I say, "thank you, sir," even to boys, because that kind of respect and care toward women is the mark of a true gentleman. It has absolutely changed my life! And now as a middle-aged woman, I still feel feminine and soft, despite being experienced and capable (54 years and 6 kids will do that to you!).

I love this! I’ve been wearing dresses almost all the time for the last few years and I definitely think all your observations are true for me!
It’s much easier to get ready in the morning and feel put together.
    -They’re more comfortable.
-People do treat you better and give you more respect (compared to people in athleisure or jeans). Especially men, it triggers the God-given chivalry and protectiveness in most men.
-They’re more modest AND more flattering.
-You don’t have to worry about your body.
-It IS more minimalist because you only need one item of outerwear and don’t need to worry about matching or keeping things in a color scheme.
As a tip, I always wear flowy slip-shorts under my dresses. I have about five and they’re a necessity for me. Dresses are more comfortable with them because the fabric flows freely without bunching or rubbing and especially with kids you don’t have to worry about exposing yourself if they lift your dress up or if you need to climb something to chase after them.

The comment she made about thinking about her legs or insecurities about what she looked like in close designated with me. Been a Tom boy my whole life and still enjoy sports and being competitive with the guys, but wearing a dress that is comfy and simple helps me focus on God and others throughout the day and not myself (ironic cause I get the most compliments while wearing dresses). I feel the urge to prove myself under man's standards rise up, but God's softening my heart and validating me that I don't have to be the strongest person in the room to be valued and respected. I started wearing dresses to church to match my handsome hubby's nice wear at church (I used to just wear jeans or sweatpants) but as the months go on, I feel more myself, less anxious, and more beautiful and gentle. Some suggestions about clothing in general (I think another comment mentioned one of them): in the days when women wore dresses all the time, they always had “house dresses” for casual dressing and working around the house or cooking and often wore aprons so the dress would not get filthy and would not get as worn out. And they had nicer but casual dresses for running errands and shopping. And they had some fancier dresses for social events or church or an important meeting, and then some also had travel outfits. So I suggest getting some more casual dresses for housework etc and saving the good dresses for out of the house. Also for chilly days you can get a pinafore or jumper so you have layers, made of warmer fabrics like denim or corduroy or flannel and wear long sleeved tops or long pullovers underneath.
One big problem and question I have is about shoes. With pants or jeans we can wear tennis or athletic shoes. But what about just casual when it is too cold for sandals? What kinds of every day shoes do you wear with your dresses? Yes boots in winter and sandals in summer, but what about the in between?

I started wearing dresses full time about a month ago. I was just sick of standing in front of my closet trying to find “something that went together”. I’ve come to the same conclusions: I feel good in what I’m wearing; I feel beautiful; more secure in who I am; have more gentleness….The same things you said. Be encouraged, you aren’t crazy, you are encouraging us😃. I found it interesting: the difference in your voice and your demeanor from when you wore the dresses and then the morning you were in the sweat shirt and pjs(?), after your son was sick all night, there was a kind of “roughness” to you. Then you changed into the dress and your gracefulness, and gentleness came back. It was a good wake up call for me to “pay attention”, that I might have the same thing going on, unconsciously. AND for me to decide: which demeanor, tone of voice, do I want to live in? Which one shows more of the Lord’s love for me and others? That’s the one I want to keep. Thank you for this video. You have a new subscriber. Have a blessed day!🦋💐🦋

Yes! you’re the only other person i’ve encountered that says this too, I’m in total agreement! When I switched to dresses & skirts a few years ago I noticed people treated me differently out in public. Not sure what that says about our society but we seem to be more influenced by appearance than we want to admit. …I’m still in dresses. 😊

I feel like this too when I wear dresses.
I used to wear all black before hand.. Black jeans, Black boots, Black leather jacket, metal band shirts etc..
It was very heavy and masculine.. Now I wear dresses and skirts more often.. And I’m not afraid of print and color.. I still wear my boots and leather jacket, but mixed with floral dresses fx., it takes away some of the heaviness and I feel so much more gentle, warm and feminine when I wear those skirts and dresses.. So no, you’re not alone. :)

Not crazy--or, even better, crazy in a good way! This was an interesting experiment. There was a time (a few years back) when I had a hard time finding a dress--that is, a dress for whatever occasion I was getting ready for. Thankfully, that seems to have changed. But isn't it strange that these days, to wear a dress every day stands out as unusual. For centuries, women wore dresses. I can't imagine working out in a dress, but for the rest of the day, way cool. You have inspired me to give this a try. I am just starting on a path of sewing some of my own clothes, mostly for the creativity of that. I'm starting off with skirts, and hope to have several made for the summer. Nice video, Margaret!

Lovely video! I was born again at age 30 through prayer, then Bible reading. It was a miraculous experience. I was in the Navy at the time, I was in for 9yrs when I became a born again Christian. My mom had always been a jean and t-shirt gal and was quite assertive. I was pretty much the same, never wore dresses except maybe as a very young child. After I was born again I felt the Lord show me one day how my clothes were influencing my behavior. I was in my office, wearing my cammie uniform and boots, I had this sudden realization that my aggressive speech, and the way I was sitting legs open like a man, my cammies and boots and other clothes were influencing me. I felt the Lord leading me to get some dresses. I am still working on wearing them more often but I've noticed that when I do wear them, I feel so feminine and behave more lady like and gentler with others. I also think it improves my work ethic. I feel like I see my dress and it reminds me I should be doing the house chores etc. lol. I've gotten used to wearing them out and about which was a hurdle for me. I just need to wear them at home more often. Everything you've said matches my own experience wearing dresses. I have also noticed that gentlemen, even tougher looking guys treat me with more gentleness and respect when wearing my dresses. Thanks for this lovely video!

I’m late to this discussion but want to chime in. I’m 61 and have worn skirts and dresses exclusively for forty years. All of your observations ring true to my experience too and, honestly, they’re designed to suit our curvy frames - pants/trousers are not. I don’t miss the feeling of my jeans making me uncomfortable when I sat and stood. Also, I appreciate your comments about colour. It has a huge impact on our frame of mind! I lived in north central Europe in the fall and few years ago and the buildings were beige/putty/cream, the sky was grey every day and there were no green spaces near my apartment. The lack of colour torpedoed my moods in a shocking way. I learned then why I enjoy the beautiful blue sky and the lush green spaces of my home region. 🇨🇦 I hope you’ve continued to enjoy dresses! They’re great in the winter too with warm tights or leggings and a blazer or sweater over top!

What a refreshing reflection! I love how this experience with dresses highlighted something so simple yet transformative. You know, it strikes me that sometimes the smallest changes, like choosing a different outfit, can have a surprising ripple effect on our day, our demeanor, and even our interactions. Watching you tap into a softer, more feminine side is so relatable-there's something uplifting about feeling just a bit more graceful in everyday moments.
Your 30-day journey offers a reminder that embracing our own unique style can influence how we feel and how we connect with others. Whether it's dresses or simply dressing in a way that feels true to ourselves, these choices have a wonderful way of uplifting us from the inside out.
And always, remember... every time you click the “like” button... an angel gets its wings.
