The most basic one, the Land Cruiser 1958 cost $57,345, fabric interior and as plain as you can get it. I'm having a hard time swallowing nearly $60k for a I4 turbo with all black basic cloth interior at that price. That's before dealer mark ups.
Doesn’t include power seats either
Not even a diesel
What is wrong with an I4 Turbo?
@@youngblood23rb Usually nothing, especially in diesel, but at the fully loaded price, it's kinda pricey for what you get don't you think?
@@gpaje I agree
Just buy the new Lexus GX 550 Off road model. It’s really a no brainer.
Definitely over the Launch Edition Land Cruiser
Question is will you actually be able to find/buy any without markups
@@czwhat328 good news I’m in no rush to buy a new vehicle so I can wait a few years so by then the markups should be gone 😁
As someone who has experienced the difference between a Toyota dealership and a Lexus dealership. I agree.
@@stranger-ed5ju + REAL bad MPG.
The GX550 Overtrail is $69,250, Overtrail Plus is $77k per their build configurator. The LC I built was similar to Romans at $69k. Overtrail for me…
LC HE for me
I like the GX but no hybrid setup with onboard power at this time makes me prefer the LC.
$75 G’s for the First Edition with a 4 banger ?! You’d be off your rocker not to get a GX with the turbo 6cyl….
Some people want that Land Cruiser name on their vehicle...
@@BROON71 It's a Prado, not a Land Cruiser
@@RJ-vc2juthe Prado is a Land Cruiser you muppet. Do some research. The LC250 shares the same platform as the 300 as well.
@er7 The muppets was a good show. As someone that's driven pretty much every version of a LC since the late 70s, and done so in Africa, the Prado does not share the heritage of the Land Cruiser in the true sense of the name. The new Prado, although sharing frame architecture with other Toyota platforms, in the same way that the new Tacoma shares the architecture with the new Tundra, does not make it worthy of the LC name. Unfortunately this now also applies to the shameful excuse that is the LC300. After all these years, the last remaining Land Cruiser is the 70 series, still sold in certain markets. For everything else, the Land Cruiser name is being used as a marketing scheme by Toyota, at great harm to the heritage of that name plate.
Obviously, we don't have to agree on this.
@@RJ-vc2ju no, it's actually called the "Land Cruiser Prado"...
unless you're set on the LandCruiser name badge, waiting until the 4runner comes out makes most sense. IMO. and that's what i'm doing!
The 4 runner for 40-45 is the max most people are willing to pay, and even that is out of reach for many.
For who? Most new cars bought are at that price.
If you pay less, you buy used in most cases.
The Lexas GX550 Overtrail+ is the way to go for me.
Two things about the new LC made me consider it as a replacement for my GX 460. The improved mpg and the possibility of getting a base model with the sway bar disconnect. I’ll be looking at other vehicles. Too few options for what they are asking for it.
I’ll take a Bronco Sasquatch or a Colorado ZR2 Bison for the same price. These come standard with rock sliders, fancy interior, and also has much more improved off-road capability. 4:48
Will be interesting to see what the next gen 4-Runner will be priced at. The 5th gen TRD Pro is already upper 50’s.
I am torn as of which one I would get. From one angle, Lexus GX550 off road model. More towing, and nicely equipped. BUT I am not happy with the MPG for the Lexus, PLUS it will need premium gas. From that side, the Toyota wins!
Great info guys .. on it as always 👏👏
That's way more than I was expecting, by about 10k
My Sasquatch bronco was 38k, I realize they're not 1 to 1 vehicles but 4x4s in general seem to be out of reach for most people these days
Where did you find a Sasquatch for 38k? All the ones around here are 52k or more.
You also bought ford quality
@@thomas735 There used to be a barebones "Base" trim back when the Bronco launched that started just under $30K. Sasquatch package would have brought it up to just about $38K if you didn't spec the 2.7L Ecoboost or automatic transmission. Nowadays the cheapest Bronco you can order is a two door Big Bend which will start at around $39K.
@@WilliamRivera343 oh, they must have been losing money on those I’m guessing kind of like when they released the maverick. My local ford dealer has broncos and getting one equipped like this LC with full time 4wd is like at least 57k
@@thomas735 Higher profit margins on the more expensive trims to from a corporate standpoint it makes sense even though it sucks for the consumer. I'm just waiting to try out this new LC and the 6th gen 4Runner before I decide whether to go with the Bronco or not. I used to have a 2006 Range Rover I bought CPO in 2007 and ran that for 12 years with surprisingly good reliability after 135,000 miles. Outlasted both an 08 Pathfinder and 05 Sorento that I also ran during that time.
Currently in a Mini Cooper S but wanted a proper 4x4 SUV as a second vehicle. There's already two Broncos in my family and they've been pretty solid which is why I am interested in getting one of my own but I am not a brand loyalty type of person and these Toyotas certainly piqued my interest.
Custom ordering from Ford is better than buying off the lot as neither Bronco in my family cost more than MSRP or paid any dealer fees, just sales tax and tag. I suspect those you mentioned will stay on the lot until dealers start offering more incentives now that supply is starting to match demand.
The pricing makes the GX550 look like a better deal. A price comparison against a Bronco and Wrangler will be very interesting
Guys, it takes like 5 minutes to cut down and edit, didn't need to see you struggle for 30 seconds fighting about how to use the computer lol (also in the future, maybe just have a tab for each model trim so your not fighting the buggy configurator)
GX 550 for me. Too bad all the LCs don't have the round lights.
For the price you might as well get a lexus or bmw.
Supposedly an easy change
Yeah looks like a Lego lmao
Apparently, the round headlights will be available at any Toyota Parts Counter. And that you can easily swap them back and forth...
@@SA-xf1ebLexus (GX550) yes, but there is not a single BMW with the off road capability of the new Land Cruiser lmao. Even notwithstanding price
Add me to the "makes no sense to buy the LC when the GX550 Overtrail is the same price" crowd. Putting the 4-cylinder in this truck is going to kill the sales.
Why does cylinder count matter?
i’m not a fan of the engine, but people will buy whatever toyota pushes out, hence the stupid high prices of all their products these days.
I agree about the powertrain in comparison will not do it any favors. Maybe parts cost and the cost of insurance and registration for a Lexus will be so much more it will push some folks to the Toyota LC instead??? I don't know.
@@ALMX5DP larger displacement engines offer a different feel, especially when naturally aspirated. Plus, small, turbo engines typically are stressed more = shorter life of operation of specific components.
@@AutoEnthusiastJC different feel sure, but the assumption it’s stressed more doesn’t really hold up.
There’s way more overlap in price with the GX here than I think most people were expecting. I guess in hindsight it makes sense. This creates more room to move the price of the 4Runner up as well.
Roman must be very proud of his son. Every time I look at their videos it makes me emotional to see the son following his dad's footsteps. If I would have been Thomas I would also be proud to work with my dad like this. Keep up guys!
Might as well get the GX
A midsize suv with an I4 that gets less than 25 mpg highway….. for $60k? Can’t wait for the $100k 4Runner.
460 ft lbs of torque just saying
Is 25 mpg not good?? Lol
@@xm3ntal620 I think the issue is 25mpg isn't bad, but it is just meh/okay; I feel like these 4cylinder engines aren't really worth the effort. I am not seeing the massive gains in mpg based on all these upcoming 4cylinder engines. My 2020 ram 1500 from 4 years ago gets over 25mpgs highway (diesel) and that is a V6 3L (I can get 26mpg or 27mpg in the real world on highway with offroad tires and a lift). That is also with a rooftop tent above the bed. The smaller Land Cruiser can't beat that with a 4cylinder 2.4L and 25mpg is probably like perfect conditions. Real world, highway, for the Land Cruiser (stock) is going to be closer to 22mpg, I am guessing. After you add wheels, lift, and tires, the highway mpg is going to be below 20. That doesn't include adding tents, and gear, etc.
@@keith9388 how can you compare a diesel to a gas car? 25 mpg for a SUV that size is EXCELLENT with 465 ft lbs of tq. Problem with diesel is that they require expensive/complicated emissions related systems to keep them running clean. I'm sure you know about the 2 billion dollar fine for Cummins diesel defeat devices from OEM. Also the engine you speak of has huge reliability issues. The main bearing oil holes are too small and get clogged up by diesel soot and die a premature death. Everything has its tradeoffs. I think we can expect extreme reliability from Toyota and the NiMH battery under the rear seat is designed to be replaced easily for not a lot of money. They have been testing these hybrid systems for almost 2 decades now.
If you compare it to the current 4runner, you get a 35% increase in efficiency and over 50% more torque.
The 1958 is pretty cool. You get a basic cloth interior, but you still get all the goodies like full time 4WD, locking rear and center diffs. I'd go for that, but my spouse probably wants the "nice" stuff like leather, etc.
Toyota just priced out the Land Cruiser. Its $5000-8000 more than it should be.
But it’s what other people will pay
@@brohammer sure there are people that spend 10k over sticker price on things. There will always be sucker's. Toyota just recalled their LX 600, Tacoma and tundras for now I'll just enjoy my old vehicle that doesn't give me any problems.
Im kinda digging the '58 model, enough to get around on the trails since its including the locking difs, and you can add the rock rails
LC with the LC trim, paint protection, door guards, rock rails, and all-weather mats. I would get it in the trail dust color with the Java softex interior.
I have one big question though. Can I swap over my wheels and tires from my ‘16 Tacoma? 285/75 R16
Sorry, that comes in at $64,575. I don’t think the premium package is worth it. Might want to sit in a softex seat first before I make that decision though.
Man, I really just want to wheel one for a couple of months and see how far I could get it.
I priced out the mid level Land Cruiser and Lexus GX 550 Over-trail. The prices were within $2000 of each other.
Surprised the GX offers you lots more off road accessories as options
Great channel - I really enjoy the Toyota content and the depth of your reporting and comradery with all the folks you associate with. I always come away learning something.
My question is what is the "duty cycle" of the new land cruiser?
I was fortunate enough to own and enjoy a 1997 80 series Land Cruiser for 14 years. I sold it in 2021 and bought a 2021 4Runner TRD Offroad Premium. My understanding is that Toyota designed the 80 series to have a duty cycle (or life expectancy) of 25 years. Mine was 24 years old when I sent it off to an enthusiastic new owner and was in great condition for it's age with zero mechanical issues. It will be interesting to see how well the '24 Land Cruiser holds up. My sense is that it won't approach the 80's duty cycle. How is your 80 holding up ? I'm glad to see it on your channel from time to time ;
My new dream car. Opinion here, the basic one is the one to get. The other stuff is just sales fluff to widen market appeal.
I think here we will get a 2.8 Diesel (that is in the new 70 series). Time to caress my credit rating.
I’m seeing (roughly) 67% more fuel costs in the GX vs LC. Colorado premium @ 3.59 vs 2.91, and 17 vs 23 mpg. Did I do that math right?
If you are spending $60k plus on a vehicle do you worry about fuel?
My configurator doesn't have all the options you guys are showing. Strange
23 combined? I’d be okay with that if it were a straight (or V) six hybrid. I get that it makes decent torque, but the old pentastar V6 with etorque gets similar fuel economy, and the twin turbo hurricane straight six isn’t that far behind. Pretty sure the old V6 engines from toyota will be missed, but people will buy the new products regardless. 🤷🏼♂️
4:17 well, you learned from experience how Toyota works. You don’t get to choose the options. The distributor will add steps and things you may not want at the port. Fun fun.
I went to Toyota’s website and found the Land Cruiser build option under SUV/Crossover. I was able to build out all three trims too and use my back button. I was doing it at 9:30am Hawai’i time Sunday February 25, 2024 though so maybe they fixed it from the time you guys shot your video.
1958 with rock rails. Kinda can't wait to see more on this from TFL.
Is it 8,000 or 9,000 towing capacity for the GX 550? Their website still says 8,000 lbs. The 9,000 lbs. was leaked to Roman a few weeks ago but you'd think Lexus would've updated their website by now.
Starting price should be
4runner: 35K
Land Cruiser: 45K
Lexus GX: 55K
I will wait for the redesigned 4Runner to come out before getting on board the Land Cruiser train
Interesting the GX requires Premium fuel (if true). The same engine with higher 389hp output in the Tundra is designed to run on 87.
I think the best one is the middle trim and no options except maybe moonroof. That puts it at $63Kish. Gets you all the off-road mechanical features. It gets you the middle sound system and upgraded infotainment screens. And versus the GX 550... well the Land Cruiser is significantly more fuel efficient 23MPG combined vs 17 MPG of the GX 550. You're saving roughly $6K up front and then $700ish each year. You get the 2400W inverter for camping too. Personally I think both models together you can basically pick exactly how fancy or efficient you want. Personally I do not need, or even want, the "Convenience package" features in my off-road vehicle. The price of the First Edition literally doesn't matter. Its a limited run and basically if you didn't already reserve a spot with a dealer you won't get it for MSRP anyway.
I don't know what you're seeing with the 550 Overtrail non-plus starting at $75k. I've got mine configured with rock sliders for $70k.
Not including sales tax.
Should compare the GX550 premium plus vs the pancreases with the premium package. Both 69k
In Europe the first edition is like 98k euro with the diesel from the hilux (have one).
Would like the hybrid petrol instead and a lower price so I opted out.
You know it’s too expensive when it costs the same as the GX…
Too expensive. Pushing $70k with options. I would love to have one but refuse to pay that much.
Couldn't use a screen capture with audio over top of it?
I wish the Land Cruiser 1958 trim would be available in Sweden. :( We only get "Frist Edition" with round light and "Executive" with square lights ...
Hoping to see a Tommy/Roman workout series. Get healthy Roman, we love you
Seems like the only Land Cruiser they really sell is the 1958… otherwise you just buy the GX. Funny, they only give you 3 colors to force you to go to the higher trim. If the base was offered in the same colors they wouldn’t sell the higher trim at all.
Just wait for somebody to trade in a 1958 when they upgrade to the Gx. Buy that one.
The whole world mostly buys any sort of land cruisers just in solid non metallic white.
I doubt 1958 will sell. Yeah it has the off-road goodies, but it's too basic for the price. It's a $30,000 ‐ $40,000 vehicle for almost $60,000
If you go with the GX it also take premium gas and I don't need to tow more than 4k are the main reason I would choose the LC over the GX
When is your ineos coming in?
Just looked at their spec sheet for the LC. It says it only has 26.7in of second row legroom??? That makes no sense, why would they go smaller in that area on a vehicle nearly identical in size to the GX and smaller than the current 4runner second row? Doesn't make much sense
I really am disappointed they eliminated the clamshell style rear hatch. That was an iconic Land Cruiser feature.
Most people don’t need the rear locker. The Base GX550 seems like a bargain for $64k
My local dealer has a TACOMA TRD SPORT FOR $55.000! YIKES. waiting for 4runner
that is a very interesting price and mpg the base sequoia is 61275 and also 21/24 mpg
how are they only getting 22/25 out of a 4 cylender crazy
Land Cruiser trim in Blue with options
The headlights remind me a bit of the 80s series
Wow very pricey
Because everything is.
In your mind but the US spec LC200 is more pricey than the LC250
@@chaarleess honestly 200 was way overpriced for its time. 86 g's in 2021 was incredibly insane but these days it's really not that bad considering the Sequoia TRD Pro is 80 grand.
The customers have been clamoring for a barebones, no frills offroader on which they can bolt on aftermarket accessories. Toyota delivered it. Albeit at a price $10k too expensive. The GX Overtrail wins hands down.
Unless you got lots of cash laying around or make a large down payment, in today's loan rate of nearly 7% its hard to justify any car over $50K+!
Im getting a land cruiser id like to get base model buy add in a good few features
Aside from a locker, the only things worth getting are the rock rails and roof rack.
Those Toyota Dashcams are $330. I have an after-market dashcam in my 4Runner, but if you have a 2018 or newer Toyota, you can install one of the Toyota dashcams. When I have a free weekend, I am going to install the Toyota dashcam in my 4Runner.
land cruiser trim for me you get that front sway bar disconnect!
I still like the 1958, but I doubt I could justify any higher trim
They may have trouble selling the launch edition at $75k. At $65k maybe.
1958 in UN white & maybe wrap it a better color?…( I’m a sucker for brown seats though)…leave the top white..
OMG. You guys are too funny. "Oh God. Tommy!" Just a treat as a parent.
Eh. Going to keep my 4runner. I like the round headlights but the interior does seem basic in the 1958 model for $55k. I’m guessing the new 4runner will be a turbo 4 with an option for the hybrid like Tacoma. Hopefully it get the sway bar disconnect option.
Anyone who buys LC 1st Ed is doing it to say they did it. Not because it's a good value.
^^^ Tommy clicking to try & get back to original screen 😁
I’m so spoiled by my badlands bronco. I mean it did cost an arm and a leg, but it’s an absolute Billy goat and I’m like, “what do you mean only one locker?!”
The round headlights should be an option, Toyota...
It’s up regular on the website
Hopefully the next Fourunner will be available with NON hybrid drivetrain with traditional 4x4 NOT AWD, like the Tacoma AND be at least 10K less! Plus the styling really needs to be better than this last Gen. You know all the things we wanted this LC to have we aren't going to get.
In Canada the mid version with tax is 100,000$, financed over 3 years would be ~3100$/month.
That's crazy. Almost better getting the base GX550.
What’s the use of Toyota having it top out at 80k that was the problem with the 200 LC
FIRST OF ALL, what happened to the nice tweed fabric seats we saw in the pre-production 1958 Tommy did a first look video on? That is a bummer! I kind of like some things about it but overall I'm sort of disappointed by it. The smaller engine ( I don't understand why they didn't put the GX 550 engine in it) and the 8 inches of ground clearance are pretty uninspiring (Subaru's have more than that). These things, and the price, make me want to wait to see what they do with the new 4Runner. I suppose that parts for a Lexus will cost more, as will insurance and registration...so I guess there is that argument, but most people spending that kind of money are probably a little indifferent on that at that point.
GR Sport+ Gazoo Racing ??
1958 is a solid deal, but if you want the other two variants, pick the GX550 instead :D
At 8.7” ground clearance, isn’t this competing more with a bronco sport which is 1/2 the price?
Hopefully the inverter is pure sine, the one on my 4Runner isn’t , therefore it’s pretty useless for my application.
And to think these guys was fusing at the Ranger Raptor and Colorado ZR2 Bison for being $55,000+.😅😂. Don’t worry TFL I’m still a fan. 😅
The base 1958 model should come in more colors. Also, you should be able to option leather seats and the larger screen on this model..
seriously, and black grey or white? If they had done a green, tan and mustard or blue 2 tone, would have been so much more appealing.
I just built the one I’d buy and it was the same exact price as my Defender with the i6
I'm hyped up for both the LC and GX but for the price I'm going to stick with the 4runner. I can bash the 4runner without guilt. But for a daily driver with the family I'll just hop to the GX
If its $69K, basically, for a Land Cruiser + Convenience package then the upcoming Tacoma TRD Pro is going to cost at least $65K. Which would make it $10K more than the Ranger Raptor and $15K more than a ZR2. I'm anxious to see everyone's reaction.
Anyone out here looking to buy a new vehicle in 2024 needs to have their head examined… stop paying these prices and the manufacturers will stop marking them up. The manufacturers also need to get their dealers in line as well. All the mark ups the last 2/3 years are insane!!
I totally agree. Crazy how much people out there think these prices are ok. For crying out loud see how many comments about the GX550 overtrail is the most sensible one to buy. $75K+ is more sensible…Really!!!!
Waiting to see what a next-gen 4Runner looks like....
If only Australia could get the 4Runner, it would be a killer here ... but we only get the 300 series and this Prado coming but with old 2.8L Diesel powertrain and lack of 4x4 capabilities unless you're in the top spec. Toyota is crazy to be charging this ...
I’m buying one 😊
The problem is that a responsible spec Defender is the same price
Would be great without the hybrid. Can that, and start the base price lower.
"Thats a lot of torque, dad." LOL
I got a question. Why buy a Landcruiser for off-roading unless you just a Toyota fanboy?
Spec'd a Land Cruiser trim to how I liked and was just over 68k, at that point I'd much rather have the v6 tt, with similar options and accessories, and nicer interior by Lexus for 2k more.
Finally, a Land Cruiser price that won't make me faint! Time to start saving for that trip to the moon 🌕
@BevPyfer Comparing apples to apples in terms of equipment, the new baby Land Cruiser Prado is only $6k-$8k cheaper than the outgoing 200 series.
After the 1st edition is gone I bet they will offer the 58 in more colors.
This makes the Lexus GX Premium+ look like the way to go for 90% of people. Most buyers don't need the rear locker and the GX has pretty much everything else except the 2400w inverter.
Mileage isn't great on the GX. But if you're spending $70k on a vehicle like this, you can probably afford the extra $500 a year in gas.
They made it priced to close to the GX. Just get that instead for a lot more features.
