I'm flying to NYC with a connection at Frankfurt this year with 75 minutes between flights and I watch it so get myself ready for this one hell of a ride.
Awesome video thank you. We have the same 1 hour 40 connection time in Frankfurt after arriving from LHR and connecting on to Los Angeles. We have managed to purchase a cheap business class upgrade and was hoping to use the lounge at FRA. Judging by your video we won’t be able to visit the lounge.
You might have time, just be aware of the 4s on your boarding pass. If you get that get to the gate early for the secondary security search which can take up to 15 minutes
I’m flying from Chicago to Frankfurt to Vienna this week and I have precisely one hour at Frankfurt to find my Vienna flight. Probably less as they close boarding down early. Worst case scenario is I grab a later flight and hang out in one of the lounges. It’s not easy being easy. 😊
@@JTsJourneys 1 canceled flight, 2 delayed flights, 2 missed connections and 1 international bus ride. Despite not even flying Lufthansa because of another airline’s mistake, LH put me on a later Austrian air flight to Vienna. 🙂 I don’t think I’ve ever cleared immigration faster than I did at FRA.
@@JTsJourneys It wasn't helped by them taking us straight to Gate Z and the cafe was closing. My wife is in a wheelchair, so we had little choice. The nice man who was closing the cafe, made us a coffee and I had some films on my tablet, that we watched. It was a long wait though.
Hello, no we didn’t. We arrived into a non Schengen gate and were deposited into the terminal where we could go straight to our next non Schengen flight
Well it’s only a few days left before head on our flights. I am not sure if you can remember but did the display board that displayed all the connection gates tell you to take a bus transfer to Z gate?( I hope that makes sense).
Hi, great video! l watched this with short breaks in between because of work therefore my following question. Since you travelled with Lufthansa from your home base to Frankfurt and then boarded another Lufthansa plane again in Frankfurt, l assume that they took care of your checked in luggage right? You didint have to check in your luggage all over again in Frankfurt?
Do you know if bypassing Customs from UK -> Frankfurt is a standard thing? Worried i might miss my short connection through Frankfurt if I have to check bags again + customs
Bags should get checked through if it’s a through ticket you’ve booked, even if not if you show them your boarding pass in the uk for the Frankfurt flight they might be able to check through. Seems to be hit and miss as to if you need to clear immigration and exit again depending where the aircraft gets parked
@@JTsJourneys Schengen to Non-Schengen flight and vice versa = Frontex check Schengen to Schengen flight = No border checks Non-Schengen to Non-Schengen flight = No border checks What can be hit or miss is the security checks, but you usually have to pass through one if you're connecting onto or from a US flight, and some other factors decide that as well, but security lines in Frankfurt are never that long. What you never have to do in Frankfurt is "exit" the airport and enter again, the terminals are designed for that. You may have to reclear security but that doesn't mean you left the secure area (if you correctly follow the signs).
I had a flight from Krakow (Schegen) to Houston via Frankfurt (Schegen) with just one hour. By just pure luck, I made my flight at the last minute before boarding closed. This was only because there was absolutely nobody in line at the TWO passport controls I had to pass through (yes, if you are going to the US you have to go through a second passport control near the Z gates). Honestly, with this airport, I would have a minimum of 3 hours between flights.
Remember that usually you don't transfer via bus in Frankfurt! It's either walking or by train. The only reason you took the bus is because the train is under construction as they're connecting it to the huge new Terminal 3 which will open in 2026
Thanks for that info, I wasn’t aware the usual transfer was via train. Hopefully once live and with the new terminal the process is seamless to connect
I did last year From Barcelona / Frankfurt/ Miami and was crazy.. too much people, walked long distance and two much checking points … minimum your need 2.5hrs
It’s a big airport, I agree though, for a comfortable connection 2.5 hours minimum, and even more if you’re travelling from outside of the Schengen area like I was
2.5 HOURS?! I agree that the US bound checkpoints can be messy at times and Frankfurt is nowhere near as efficient as Munich but even A Schengen to B Non-Schengen (let alone Z) is doable in 15-20 minutes, albeit not enjoyable. An hour is more than you need at FRA

Very tight, depends on the origin and destination really but sounds risky, especially if it’s a self connect

on the boards it told us which gate to go to. We followed the signs to that pier which directed us onto the bus to get there
Can I ask how long it took from when you got off the A320 to when you arrived at the gate Z25? Was it about an hour?
We managed it around 25 minutes, we rushed to get there so a casual pace maybe 35 mins
