Three weeks ago my family and I almost boarded our flight from Orlando en route to Charlotte which was our connecting airport heading to San Francisco. Our layover would have been 50 mins. Before heading to TSA I got a text that the flight to CLT got delayed to another 30 mins. This made our layover only 20 mins. GOOD THING I went to the American counter. Lady was able to switch our flight knowing we WOULD miss the 20 min layover. She switched us to an Alaska Air flight leaving same day but 2 hours later (6PM versus 4PM) and it was a DIRECT flight from MCO to SFO! I was grateful. I was travelling with my 4 yo son and my 70yo father who came with me to help as I am a single mom. Whew. American did something right and we didn't have to go through a missed connection. Always be proactive is key and never hesitate to ask for better accommodations.
What helps with connecting flights is to make sure you have an extremely comfortable pair of shoes in case you have to run. I like the food idea. I always seem to forget to do that. But it’s great advice. Also I’ve learned the hard way that you should always have an empty water bottle to fill after security because I had a flight that had some turbulence they did not serve any drinks at all and I was practically choking. I was counting on my free water from them. Love your videos. Thank you.

This information is gold for newbies like me. I am here because I noticed I have only an hour layover in a Paris Airport and it seems impossible to make that. Good thing I didn't buy that ticket yet
Global entry or nexus pass would be very helpful for short layovers in the US and Canada
I missed a flight when I got something to eat & wasn't close enough to hear the garbled announcement for boarding! Eat in the area where you will be boarding! Duh! Right?! Enjoyed your tips! ✈

I'd suggest to make sure your hand luggage is easy to carry. Running is way easier with a backpack and something that sits well on your shoulder (like a crossbody - that includes duffle bags with crossbody straps). Planes from Toronto to Munich were ALWAYS late (at least before Covid), so there used to be a lot of running involved. I flew that route quite often. A backpack with wheels and that crossbody duffle worked well for me. I really enjoy your videos!

Okay so we have a flight from Vancouver BC to Manila in October. Air Canada / ANA with the layover of about 2 hours at Narita booked through Air Canada. I believe unless something has changed in the last few years that the check luggage is automatically moved from the Air Canada plane to the ANA in which case our 2 hours for layover should be pretty easy and stress free? The last time I did this Air Canada and ANA both used the same terminal at Narita which was quite convenient since a connecting with JAL would be another terminal.
For the more mature (older) traveller it’s a good idea to ask for Assistance to cover the whole journey. You will be helped getting through Security and get to the gate on time. I once had to change between two long haul flights when the first (of 13 hours) was delayed. I had 15 minutes to catch the second flight (of 8 hours). Not an experience I wish to have again. I am loving all the information. As a “haven’t flown in 20 years” traveler, I honestly can’t remember a LOT. For instance, I’m flying from ALT to ALB with a layover in Dallas, I am not changing carriers, but I AM changing planes…will I have to go through TSA checks again in Dallas? Will I be able to just stay on the “cleared” side of TSA lines to wait on my connecting flight? I have an hour and five minutes between flights.

A lot has changed about air travel in the last 20 years, its crazy! You will not have to go back through TSA security during your layover. And if you're on the same airline, you might not even have to change terminals. If you do, they have trains that run between the terminals so it shouldn't take long to get from one gate to the other. 😊
I am worried about my trip to Edinburgh. From Denver with 1hr 8 min layover in IAD Washington DC. I heard united arrives on one concourse and departs internationally from another. So worried.

Always ask for alternate flights at the counter before going through security! I’m traveling to Mexico from New York on December 21. I’ll be going with my sister, so it’ll be our first time flying without our parents. The layover is 3 hours, so I think it should be fine. The only thing I'm afraid of is getting my bags from baggage claim haha

Finger cross I have connecting from Atlanta to Colombia in beginnings of Jan 2023. An hour 10 minutes layover. My concern is winter weather especially what’s happening in New York.

I have a flight to LA however I have a layover in Dallas, do i look for the flight to Dallas or LA? I know this may be a dumb question but I’m super nervous haha + it’s a 47 min layover ahh
There are no dumb questions when you are doing something new!! You will be issued two boarding passes, the first one will be for your flight to Dallas. So when you are at the airport where you are first checking in, you'll want to look for the gate for the Dallas flight and the gate number should be on your boarding pass. Then when you land in Dallas, you'll look for the gate for the flight going to LAX. If you can, download the airline's app so you can stay up to date on any changes and maybe access an airport map for Dallas so you'll know where you need to go when you land. And never hesitate to ask the airline gate attendants and/or the flight attendants for help!! Have a great trip 😀

Thank you! I don't have any experience flying through Tokyo, but that should give you just enough time. I would definitely let the flight attendants on your flight to Tokyo know your situation and they should be able to help you out if needed. 😊

Hi! Would love your advice. I have a flight from Los Angeles to Geneva with a connecting flight in CDG Paris. Super scared with the recent airport delays in Europe. What is your recommendation for timing for the connection? I have one option for 1 hour 30 min and another for 1 hour 55 min. Both flights are booked with Air France.
I would book the longer layover, giving yourself a little more cushion in case something happens. I would also consider getting a Tile or Apple AirTag to put in your checked luggage AND take a picture of your checked luggage before checking it, just in case it gets “misplaced” 😊
I am a Senior and had a health issue. Due to the lack of personnel it took longer to get people in wheelchairs off the plane it made getting to the next flight slower not faster. I was left in an extremely hot gangway for 15 minutes before we saw one agent for 11 people. I knew the airport and the luggage was not far, so I gave up and walked the rest of the way before I had heat stroke.
I will be flying into Miami from Toronto but my layover in Miami is 54 minutes. I have a nexus card though. Should I be okay?

So I’m so new at the 1 stop scenario so if it says 1hr45 for another destination I take it that’s the layover time It’s a flight from Mikwaukee to Atlanta then to Nassau Bahamas.
Yes, that should be your layover time and that should be plenty of time to compensate if your flight gets delayed and to make your way through the Atlanta airport. Have a great trip to the Bahamas!! 😊
Would 45 min layover in seattle be too short?
Hello hope you're well. I have a short layover flying from DC to Iceland. 1hr 10 mins layover. Same airline. Then going to Paris. I am really concerned. I haven't book it yet, but it is looking like the most realistic affordable ticket. What do you recommend?
Is your layover in Iceland? If so, their airport is actually fairly small and can accommodate a shorter layover, especially if its on the same airline 😊. Sounds like a fantastic trip!!
I am flying American Airlines from Charlotte (CLT) > New York (JFK) > London (LHR). I have 44 minutes between connecting flights and will be in the same terminal (terminal 8). Do you think that’s enough time? And I’m so curious about if that shorter connection will increase the likelihood of my checked baggage getting lost?

Well. Funny update: to increase my chances of making it I upgraded my seat from CLT>JFK to first class so I got off the plane first and my luggage had priority and then upgraded my seats from JFK>LHR to business class in hopes they’d pay a little extra attention if I wasn’t there.
My plane took 20 minutes to leave CLT due to traffic and then we sat on the tarmac for 15 minutes in NYC. By the time I made it to my gate at JFK they had finished boarding and were waiting for me. I was running to the end of the terminal and almost missed my flight.
Final thoughts: don’t do what I did, it wasn’t worth the stress. 😅😆😳😜. However, if you have to - I definitely think upgrading your seats will increase your chances of making your connecting flight.
We are an Aussie family traveling with a few internal US flights later this year. Our flights have a short connection (usually 1hr-1h15) but all with the same airline each time.
We are a bit concerned about catching the connecting flight, but more worried that our checked luggage will make the connecting flight. Can people share their experiences? Any lost luggage / luggage that didn't make the flight but you did?
I have a 31 minute layover in PHX in February (flying out to SAN from MCO on AA). Should I be concerned, especially since I may end up checking a bag?
That is a fairly short layover, especially with the amounts of delays that could happen when traveling during the winter months!

We were on the same aircraft between MCO to PHX and PHX to SAN. It was only a matter of getting off, and then re-boarding the plane.

I'm flying IcelandAir from Seattle to Dublin with a short layover in Keflavik (Iceland). I didn't think about having to get my bags and going through customs, then back through security before the flight to Dublin. Will I really have to do that?
Fun!! Ireland is high on my list of places to see soon :). I believe the only thing you'll have to do in Iceland is just show your passport and ticket and the Reykjavik airport is pretty small, so you should have plenty of time. For the most part the US is the one of the very few countries that requires the re-checking of baggage. Hope you have a fabulous trip!!
Both countries are in the EEA so it's highly unlikely to go though customs twice coming from the US. Best confirm this when you check you bags.
However you will need to go through passport control at Keflavic then again at Dublin.
My question: do you always have to go to baggage claims for your stuff? Because that means I have to go through security *again*

If you’re connecting flight is through a different airline they won’t transfer your bag and you’ll have to check you bag again
Only if you are flying internationally and you have a layover in the country you are arriving in before you get to your ultimate destination.

How about an international flight but domestic to domestic layover, do we still have to get our baggage and recheck and go through immigration?

Personal items are usually free, however many airlines are now charging for carry on bags, so it depends on your airline. As long as you have your personal item and carry on with you in the plane, you won't have to do anything except find your next gate. Also, if for some reason your carry on gets "gate checked", usually because there is no more room in the overhead bins, they will check that bag through to your final destination. Meaning you will need to pick up that bag at baggage claim when you get to New York. 😊
In one part of an upcoming trip, I am flying from Newark to Munich with only 50 minutes to get my connecting plane to Marseilles. We've read that you don't need to go through customs or anything since the flight from Newark is the same airline as the flight we are taking to Marseilles. Our tickets and seats are booked. We are taking Lufthansa. There was only one other option that was not much better. Is it true we won't have to do customs or anything in Munich since our gates will be right next to each other?
You shouldn’t have to do customs in Munich because you’ll be traveling on to another country. You’ll go through customs once you get to Marseille. Sounds like a wonderful trip 😊
I am worried now. I have a 49-minute layover in Miami on the way to Puerto Plata Dominican Republic and I can't change my flight time.

I have a 38 minute layover in Charlotte I'm going to new york from California and my only worry is finding the gate in time should i ask for directions or somthing because it's my first time flying and I'm going to be by myself
I would definitely ask for directions when you land in Charlotte, it can be a long walk depending on which gate you'll be going to. You might want to find a map for the Charlotte airport that you can download into your pictures app to refer to when you know which gate you'll be landing at and which you will be flying out of. As someone who has not flown a bunch, what would be the process of leaving the states to go to another country ?
There's really not much different when you are checking in for your flight to fly to another country. You will have to show your passport instead of an ID or Driver's License. Otherwise you'll get a boarding pass like normal and pass through normal airport security. The difference is when you land in the country you are flying to you will have to go through customs and every country has a different process for that. It's good to research where you are traveling to so you know what to expect 😊
I have a layover in Toronto for 1hr 32mins going to South Korea, do you think it will be fine. There weren’t any other options that fit my timeframe
Is your flight to Toronto from somewhere else in Canada? If so, you should be fine. But if you are arriving from another country and you have to go through the customs, that will be a very tight layover, especially if you are delayed getting in for any reason.

I live in Canada, but I'm hoping you have some advice for me. I'm going on a cruise out of Rome in a month, and my flights to Rome have a four hour layover, so that's fine, but on my way home my layover is a hour and a half at Toronto Pearson Airport which is having severe staffing issues and wait times. I'm going carry-on only. Do I need to go through security, or can I stay airside? If I have to go through security should I ask my travel agent to change my flight? I'd really appreciate any advice you have, thank you.
If Toronto is the first "port of entry" you will be coming into from Rome, you will have to go through Canadian customs and that could take some time. I would definitely have a conversation with your travel agent about options that would give you a little more time. Have a fabulous time on your cruise!! 😊

I will discuss this with my t/a, and I've also been told that talking the agent at immigration is a good idea, since they can take you to the front of the line if they know that you may miss your connection. I am traveling in a week from Frankfurt to Doha to Baghdad...my connection in Doha is 45 min...I am traveling from Qatar Airways...I also have kids with me...what would you suggest to me?
Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with those airports. My two suggestions would be to make the flight attendants aware of your short layover so they can help you in anyway they can. And second, make sure you have a downloaded map of the Doha airport so you'll know exactly where you need to go as soon as you disembark from the plane there. Good luck and have a great trip!
Can we now take peanut butter in carry-on bags?
It's still considered a liquid (anything spreadable is in the TSA eyes a liquid). So as long as its in a container 100ml/ 3.4 oz or less and its in your liquids bag, you can bring peanut butter 😊. Or you can always bring a PB&J sandwich pre made!

Hi. I'll be travelling Lima to Los Angeles to Sydney to Adelaide. I have 2h45mins layover at LAX and I think i need to go to immigration and get my luggages there is it enough time? Also in Sydney I only have 1 hr 45 mins layover and I think i also need to get ny luggages and need to move from terminal 1 to terminal 3 (Domestic airline). Is it enough time? Im really anxious
You should have plenty of time at LAX, I believe that since you are continuing to travel internationally and are not ultimately going somewhere in the US, you will not need to collect your luggage and recheck it. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the Sydney airport, but I would ask one of the flight attendants on your flight from LAX to Sydeny for their advice. Unless you have a major delay out of Boston, 80 minutes is usually plenty of time in ATL. 😊

Sometimes counter agents are arseholes and start to measure cm on your bags and slap 100$ baggage charge in you . I had that experience. 😢 they made me shove my bag in that measure stand and wheels won’t fit . I paid .
