      12:45 Hi
      I'm going to Orlando from London (UK) with a layover of 1hr 34 mins in Chicago
      Will I have enough time to get to the connecting flight. 2ndly di I have to go through customs in Chicago?

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  Год назад +1

      I would think you would go through customs in Chicago, yes, since it’s your first point of entry into the us, and then transfer to your next flight. It can definitely be tight, so I suggest carry on’s if you can, and not stopping if you can help it (use the restroom on the plane before landing, no shops) until you get to your gate.

    I am one of those very seasoned travelers and I still watch these videos because we can always learn from each other and we can always assist other travelers in the comments!
    You are so right about CDG. I wouldn't say it's my most anxiety ridden airport but I've had a few close calls. I've actually gone to the extent of flying into Frankfurt and then taking train or other transportation to other major cities in Europe as during the tourist season you can get slammed on a layover.
    I love that you are stressing, over and over again, *do NOT stop and shop because you've got an hour before boarding* .. Especially if it is your first time in an airport definitely go DIRECTLY to your gate then you can relax and get something to eat or freshen up in the restrooms.
    Please always be aware that there will always be a line of standby flyers and if you are not checking in at the gate in the proper time before your flight (~15 minutes or more)... your seat WILL be given away. It does not matter that you were there at the moment of departure you were not there at check-in time and your seat will be given to a standby flyer.
    As a season Traveler I actually never use words like anxiety! I say Elelectric and yet I've been known to refer to it as nail biting... but once you get into the flow the electricity of a airport and seeing all of these different faces flying to and from all these different places in the world is mesmerizing. I simply love it. And here's another point.. more and more airports are becoming destinations almost unto themselves! Airport hotels are integrated, better restaurants are coming to airports and if you get to the point where your travels put you in the executive level and you can enjoy the lounges.. that's another world entirely! You can get off of one flight and go to a spa for a half an hour massage before your next flight!! It's a whole different world.
    One of my favorite airports has been all over social media for a couple of years now but I was there when it first premiered. Singapore's Changi airport! Google it! Not only is Singapore an interesting crosswords for the entire planet but the airport itself is absolutely glorious with so many multilingual help desks, floral displays, a butterfly exhibit (!) and a world famous indoor waterfall.. airports are learning to make travelers feel the excitement of new things in their travels.
    _Happy travels everyone!_

    Just some advice about boarding passes if you are checking in online, always print a paper copy to take with you as well as the one on your phone.
    Mobile boarding passes sometimes do not scan well, your phone may die or be accidentally damaged.

    Great video! I think I went through ALL of what you talked about (except CDG). My favorite layover is Heathrow. When planning a trip, any layovers that I have to make are always 4 or more hours. I have issues with my knees and sometimes walking such long distances can take me a little while. But I have always done like you, bathroom, long lines, then straight to my gate. As soon as I get to my gate and check my flight info again, THEN and only then, do I do a bit of a walkaround the terminal. I love people-watching, luggage-watching and backpack-watching, plus shoes, I love shoe-watching. Strange? Not really. Complimenting somebody on their luggage, backpack, shoes or anything else, is a great conversation starter and I end up meeting somebody new, and always learn something from them. I love traveling! :)

      People watching is seriously the best activity ever! I definitely look at luggage and backpacks a lot… now I’ll start looking at shoes, too! Make a scavenger hunt out of it! It’s seriously so fun.

    I recently just booked a trip to London & Paris for the fall, and this video is SO helpful! I used my Delta SkyMiles and got an INCREDIBLE deal to LHR. I really want to do Paris too, and in order to cut down on jumping between hotels, I decided to book a British Airways flight to CDG around 4 hours after we land at LHR so we can wake up and already be in Paris the next morning for the first half of our trip. I’m a little worried about the process between our 2 flights (going through immigration and security again) but this video makes me feel more at ease. And after watching your channel for over a year, I ALWAYS know to only pack a carry-on LOL! Your knowledge has helped me tremendously on all my recent trips. 🎉

    I’ve never flown before let alone by myself but I want to take a round trip next year and I’m terrified of getting lost or missing my flight and getting stranded. I bought a ticket without knowing it that had a 55 minute layover in Atlanta and when my friend informed about how massive it is I quickly refunded the ticket less than hour before buying. Luckily I found a flight with more layovers but seem to be more beginner friendly. I hope things go well thank you for this advice!

    In September I’m flying to Nashville without my wife, so decided to make it an adventure and get the most miles I can. I flying Delta 95% of the time. I’m leaving Fresno to Salt Lake City (2 hr layover) then to Phoenix (11 hour layover) and take a red eye to JFK (1.5 hour layover) then final to Nashville.
    I take advantage of the Delta Sky Clubs whenever I have a layover. The 11 hour layover is going to be the longest I’ve ever had.

Thought I'd mention that we were going to try and submit for the 'global entry' program, but earliest appointment time several months away [after we're back from the UK]. So, people might want to check when they might be able to get that. We were able to at least get the 'TSA Precheck' KTN [known traveler number]. That might help some anyway.

      I would assume you would go through customs there, and then have to do security again to get back in the terminal, unless there is a swift line for transfers with a short passport check. Everytime I’ve gone from Canada to US, I’ve actually driven because I’m so close, so I’m not entirely sure.

      It can definitely be hard, especially if your flight is delayed, or you are sitting in the back of the plane. By the time your plane lands, goes to gate, and everyone gets off, that can be 45 min, or your next flight can already be boarding. Hopefully all will be ok. Move quickly and don’t make any stops. Def carry on your luggage

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  9 месяцев назад

      It really depends on the line, I can’t really give an answer to say yes or no. Sometimes customs can take hours, sometimes minutes, plus the return through TSA security again, and if you have to re-check your bag.
      Also, your boarding time is usually 30-45 min before take off, and hopefully your flight in is on time.
      My advice is to move as quickly as possible until you get back through security. No stops :)

    We're going from DTW -> YUL -> NRT and our layover is only an hour and 7 minutes. It's all Air Canada. Why would they even make the flight that way?? Now I'm scared. What happens if we miss it? We have insurance. Seems like their fault they made that even an option. Would we have to fly out from the same airline? bc then we'd have to wait an extra 8 hours and get there a whole day later! eek! Actually, all the airlines get there a whole day later! Do I need to cancel and rearrange everything? :( It was a pretty good price (comparatively) and short flight.

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  10 месяцев назад

      Hopefully it’s a quick easy transfer. But honestly, by the time you de-plane and I’m sure the other flight starts boarding at least 45 min before, you may have to run. If your plane out of DTW (my home airport!) is even 7 min late, it will be bad.
      I’d try looking up where the planes come into and take off from, terminal wise. I’ve never been to that airport, so I don’t have experience.
      If you do keep the flight, try and buy a seat as close to the front as possible, and do not check luggage

    • @ItsTheKellys

      I definitely do not recommend checking a bag, only Because there is always a huge chance that it could be lost or that tighter connections can lead to it not being on your plane. (My whole channel teaches you how to pack carry on only for any situation)
      But as for the layovers, move as quickly as possible. If your flight is late, you may have to run, only because international flights board 1 hour before take off, meaning you really only have 30 minutes.
      In Frankfurt, you may have at least 1 passport check/control so have your passport easy to reach so go straight to your gate!

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  8 месяцев назад

      ESTA looks like it’s an electronic visa for entering the US. Global entry is just for US citizens and is basically skipping the line to re-enter the US.
      When it comes to online check in, it depends on the airline. Most airlines give you a mobile boarding pass upon check-in that you can use and go directly to security. However, some airlines will tell you to visit the check-in desk, once you attempt to check in online. This is basically for a passport/visa check and a paper boarding pass.

    Arriving in the Terminal 1 un JFK the line to go through customs was at least 3 hours and the first agent I went to, to ask if there is any way I could go faster wasn't helpfull at all and told me there was nothing he could do.
    As it was my first solo trip I started panicking and having a breakdown because I already saw myself getting stuck in JFK for the night.
    I took my courage and went to ask another agent who was so so helpfull and let me pass all the line super fast.
    I ended up running to the airtrain to the Terminal 5 and arrived 5 min before de door closed.
    What I remember from this trip is to never check any luggage if you have a layover in the US comming form another country, because if I had to go through the baggage claim, and then rechecked my bag, I would have been scewed. So I'm so happy I watched your videos prior to my trip and only packed a carry on !

      Wow! I’m so glad you made it, and I’m so glad you listened! JFK is such a huge airport, going between terminals is insane! Yay team carry on!!! 💜💜💜

    I am flying from Delhi and I have layover for 12 hours in Chicago and then I have to go São Paulo. My questions is that in 12 hours layover , can immigration let me out from airport ?

      I’m sure you can leave, that’s a good amount of time!

    And what happens if I miss my flight at the layover?

      You would have to contact the airline, either on the phone or in person at that connecting airport and they will put you on another flight :)

    Layover from one airport to another? Wow, never seen that. Interesting, I don't know what I think of that.

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  2 года назад

      It’s not ideal whatsoever, and everyone should try to avoid it! I see it a lot for New York and London.

      @@ItsTheKellys NYC & London make sense! Yeah, either one would suck. Do they expect you to taxi/bus/train on your own? I know there are some "bus" flights that American? maybe, is doing now. Is it something like that, I wonder?

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  2 года назад

      Right, who knows what they expect. But between traffic and security, there could be such bad delays. There is probably some sort of bus or train situation, but I still wouldn’t book it.

      You can still do a carry on for 5 months, because you have the ability to do laundry! That’s even easier! I know people who are traveling for a year in a carry on only :)
