- Hey guys, a lot of you want to know how I get that medium golden brown hair color that you see in my hair tutorials so here it is! How to dye your hair at home without using bleach. This tutorial is for those with black hair who want to achieve a light brown color. Thumbs up if this was helpful. :)
In the video, I used a light brown box dye (L'Oreal Feria #60) but if you want a light ash brown with no warm undertones, go for an ash blonde shade that will cancel out most of the red tones. One that I've used in the past and liked is Garnier Nutrisse #81. Of course your hair will be lighter so it will require more root touch ups.
After a month or two, the dye will lighten up and turn brassy, To solve the problem, I use this purple shampoo a few times a month amzn.to/1IqriId

Disclaimer: I know there are some people who are against using box dyes and honestly, I've used what the pros used a few times and I didn't feel or see any difference. To be frank, not everyone has the time and resources to see a stylist every month. That's why box dyes fly off the shelves at drugstores. This is just a how-to video for people who want to use it.

Great video. You mentioned the top of your hair taking dye faster. That is how the sides and front of my hair is. It is so porous I end up with black even when using light brown. Should I love those areas on less time? Thanks!

Hi! Love your videos as always but I have a question. My hair has been dyed red before and now I want to go lighter brown. My hair is naturally very dark (nearly as dark as yours) so I did a tester on a random strand of hair. However, it dyed my virgin hair (roots) but not the hair which has been dyed before :-( what do you suggest I do? X

Letting the mix rest from 5 to 10 min before applying helps getting an even color

I've never dyed my hair before its naturally black. and I've been wanting to dye it to a chocolate brown color but I don't want to spend a ton of money at a salon and rather do at home. So would this work for me? and what color do I get? would the same one work?

Mid shaft down it isn't as light. When going light to dark always start 1/2 inch away from the scalp. Cosmetology is my all 3 :)

You should use the dye again over these areas or try toner.. good luck next time 😉🙌

I need help for some advice ladies
My hair type is dark brown I wanted to dye my hair to cover the grey hairs. So I went to the shop bought a box drone L’Oréal number 4 that also said natural brown but my hair turned black I cried. Now that this happened to me I really need to dye my hair back to number 6, my question is I dyed my hair last week washed MyHabit 3 times now it hasn’t faded do I just go ahead dye to number 5 will it do anything ? Or would I have to bleach my hair to go lighter number 6 ? Help
I've had past experiences with box dye, and when i was finally allowed to get my hair colored professionally, it took us 4 hours to remove the box dye from my hair. We didnt use bleach, we used Olaplex, then resulted to using bleach the lasttime. Box dye has chemicals in it that makes it harder to dye your hair a lighter color. So i reccomend you using a vegan hair dye to not damage your hair.

Would this work with purple based black hair? My hair looks super purple in direct light and I was told by my work that it looks unnatural so I have to dye my hair but I never liked the look of basic black so I was thinking of going back to my natural-ish light brown hair color.
No you need to.bleach because color does not lift color
Bleach it and add a yellow toner to elevate the purple. Btw I suggest you seek a professional

No! It will only dye your regrowth
NO IT WILL TURN ORANGE! DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS ME. Buy bleach or go to Sally's and buy the dark to light hair dye
You can. Just eyeball it every 5-10 min. When you see it's light brown you need to wash out immediately. Try to wash it out a bit before it gets light brown so it doesn't end up orange/brassy. But it's completely fine. It'd just be done faster and do more damage since its bleaching(because it's blonde) then it would with a dye like the one in this vid. But then again it's all damaged nonetheless!:) good luck!
I did this and it turned red, just buy a brown dye and if it still looks orangey buy a toner to balance it out or a purle shampoo
You either get a color remover or go have someone remove it professionally. Her hair isn't black like she says so it's easy for her but for you because you do have black it will take a while.

So my natural hair colour is black and I want to go a dark brown colour (3 ish). The thing is I've already dyed my hair to a light brown colour in a 2-step process - bleached it and then dyed it to a very light/ praline brown colour.
After a month I dyed it a dark brown (3) colour and while it was meant to be permanent, it slowly faded within two months. Now I am still stuck with my light/praline brown hair.
Any explanations as to why it faded (despite being "permanant" hair dye), and any tips on how to make sure it stays dark brown this time? Thanks a million !!!

ckrisjnk Try getting a colour before kit, it removes the dye and takes you back to your previous colour, I think it may be a bit more difficult with black but just look it up!:)
