    Just recently I was riding the Autopia near the abandoned Peoplemover and after the structure of track near Finding Nemo and Autopia near the waterfall as the cracks seem to worsen over time and the golden paint on the track seems to crack off and reveal the former peoplemover track color the grey and white. There is mostly cobwebs and weeds and plants already growing on the track.

    Nerd rant incoming:
    To be honest, I’m kind of glad that they didn’t go through with this. In part because the old Carousel of Progress building could be made into a working carousel theater again. Though it hasn’t moved in 10+ years, I’m willing to say that there’s a chance that the old drive system is still underneath (I believe you’d have to take the building out to get to it).
    Additionally, why rip out something so iconic like the old station? It could still hold potential.

    I work for an applied science company, meaning we don't just make one product, we develop the technologies that allow other companies to produce things. One of our technologies is linear induction tracks. We actually have a very small 1/8 mile maglev track at one facility which is fun if you want to ride a flatbed train car back and forth for no reason. Anyhow, since Tomorrowland was about future technology, not past I kind of hoped they'd bring it back but without the 1964 idea of wheels rolling under the cars. It would be cheaper and cause less stress to have a single maglev rail propelling the whole thing. You could even adjust speeds up/down or stop for loading. I'm not saying you could go full on EMALS with the thing but you could make up the speed later in the ride so the end result would have been similar to a continuous moving People Mover. So much regret.

    I know for a fact that it will never come back.. not with the same track.. and I mean any of that track and it's not because it's cracked. It's because of new codes. The track would need rails and walkway on each side of the track in case of breakdowns. This fact came from Bob Gurr himself. So it would have to be more like WDWs version where it hugs the side of buildings.

    • @eb2k445
      @eb2k445 3 месяца назад +3

      I wouldn’t mind that

    • @SignsofAmusement
      @SignsofAmusement 3 месяца назад +2

      @eb2k445 it's more about the cost to do that and other codes for other parts of the track.. means it would cost less to start over. Disney is not ready to start redoing tomorrowland thus everything is just sitting there. Disney forward and possibly a 3rd gate has a higher priority.

    • @FM7Studios

    It would cost millions to design new people mover cars and upgrade the track
    They are not interested in the people mover at Disneyland

    There is almost no way PM will ever return. It would need tons of renovation but the the larger obstacle would be making it compliant with current code and capability for evacuation. Since they tore down the original ride they would not get to grandfather code.
    The whole Tomorrowland refresh was an abysmal failure, which seems to be the result every time Disney tries to do a project on the cheap. This is why the Rocket Rods was put in, to do quick and dirty E-Ticket attraction while spending as little as possible. Just a few problems, like horrible guest throughput making for massive lines, and having no re-ride value because honestly it sucked unless you got a "walk on" which was pretty much what the PM was, and because it was a maintenance disaster with constant breakdowns and of course the well known structural issues using a guideway for a slow ride and putting a fast and heavy ride vehicle on it.
    Too bad they did not instead keep the PM and reuse the carousel and do an updated carousel of progress, both of which are still enjoyed and frequented at Magic Kingdom, and has massive guest throughputs.

      Agree about Paul Pressler, can't agree even a bit about Eisner, he saved the company and brought forward thinking ideas with him; what screwed him over in his final years was him being rushed to run the financial side of the company once Wells died, which he had no experience with, coupled with the fact that this happened not too long after the disaster of Euro Disney, caused the shareholders to eventually get the better of him, which in intern, caused the budget cuts that brought the the PeopleMover and the atrocious Tomorrowland retheming a few years down the line down with it.

      @Toast0808 3 месяца назад

      @@bryanrodriguez7636 Michael Eisner didn’t save the company, the Bass brothers did, as they were the ones who stopped the hostile takeover. Secondly, it was Michael Eisner who started the whole “let’s shove IP into everything trend”, as well as the one who hired Paul Pressler, made him the president of Disneyland, and approved all of Pressler’s cost cutting, which not only brought the quality of the park down, but resulted in the deaths of two park guests. Ultimately, Eisner was the man in charge and held ultimate responsibility for these things.
