So I realized I called the "pair" button on the top of the controller the "share" button like severalllll times in the video. In the heat of the moment of an intense tear down I guess "share" sounded better to me than" "pair" lol. Hope you enjoyed the break down of these controllers.

Love and appreciate your videos, taking the time making them, having correct information and the sarcasm along with it lol.
*However can you please STOP saying the Elite 2 Core has “cheaper plastic material”… it doesn’t. It has the same exact made plastic material as the Black version does. Literally every part and grade material make is identical to both. As myself and you have done a tear down on the Elite 2’s lol.
I get where your coming from because it’s different and “Feels cheap” but that’s because They gave it a Matte finish/feel in White, with a slightly rough surface feel on purpose to be unique compared to the Black Elite version.
Same Shell and strength, Just a different finish. They did that on purpose, one of the reason is because it’s harder for fingerprints and smudges.
      - Xbox community complained about the first and second Gen Black Elite being so easy to see any marks and oil from or hands.
Both Elite 2 controllers are identical besides the finish.
However if it was a “cheaper plastic” Microsoft’s sales revenue would actually cost More if they had a “different/cheaper” Plastic. Because alll Xbox controllers are made with same plastic material, just different finishes, therefore having another grade plastic would cost more and make no difference since all the internal parts are exactly the same on the Elites, thankfully Microsoft didn’t try scalping us with any cheaper parts on the Elite Core lol

My number one complaint with the Elite 2 is the bumpers, they’re the only components that have broken for me. I don’t want to take it apart and fix it because then I would void my warranty which I have a 2 year extended warranty which i’m glad i bought because of course the controller broke. If they fixed those then I would be happy with this controller. If it weren’t for these quality issues this would be the best controller on the market

Part of me is surprised they're still using the 1797 boards instead of a modified 1914 or newer board, but part of me also isn't surprised considering this is just an Elite Series 2 with new shell plastics. Speaking of the plastics, I wonder if they're actually different, or if just the surface treatment is different. Guess we won't see much until a Series 3 exists.
Though the pots are different, they're not the typical teal-colored ALPS that the original ES2 run had used, and what most first party products use. As far as I know, the DS5 and 1914 controllers, the two newest models of first-party controllers, use the teals still. Although, interestingly, the Steam Deck is using blacks like the ES2-C is using, though I'm not entirely sure if Valve is sourcing from ALPS or a third party; similarly, these pots could just as easily not be ALPS as well. This change has seemingly happened within the past year or so, because I've seen original ES2s with teal pots, yet your ~9 month old ES2 has the same black pots; maybe this whole 'quality control' thing Microsoft is boasting has been in the works for awhile, they may also be testing pots for quality before assembly for all we know, but I have a feeling the black pots contribute to this. I'm also not sure about third parties, because not all (if any?) are sourcing components from ALPS, I know K-Silver is one of the other big suppliers, though there's probably a handful of cheaper suppliers supplying the bottom of the barrel third parties. Given how ALPS has had a massive drop in quality over the past generation, I'd be curious to see if the black pots are ALPS, ALPS of higher quality, or ALPS at all.
An alternative to a heat gun is also a hot bag. Ifixit sells them, other vendors sell something similar, or you can just microwave a bag of water and rice; I would recommend this over a heat gun in the vast majority of cases, never use a heat gun unless the tool is actually needed for the job. The rubber grips may also need a thinner than typical tool, alternative type of pry tool, or there may be an alternative trick to getting the shell to separate nicely, such as using a suction cup or 'massaging' the clips out of place without a pry tool by flexing the shell correctly, if the shell has enough give; there has to be a way to not mar the rubber.

stripped down 100s and never damaged rubber grips. insert plastic prying tool between shell and RB or LB has close to the rubber grip has pos without touching the rubber and twist the tool may take a few twist or a cpl of swaps to the oposite side and eventually you will feel the side you are working in will lift up, work a second tool in to the gap and work your way around the controller carefully popping each clip has you go job done. ps nice vid and love caydes ace of spades

They changed the warranty for the elite series 2 a while back. I bought one back in March 2020 and almost a year later in Feb 21, my bumper was only working every 1 out of 5 clicks. I went to the Xbox website, and they have these notifications sometimes when you go and check. One of them said due to frequent whatever the warranty was extended to a year. thankfully I was able to get a replacement almost right at the cutoff point.
This was great then, but now the rubbers are coming off. This one a problem I had with the series 1 I never expected to have with the series 2. it's like the rubber deformed over time. I wish they would either make the grips a rubber sleeve with nubs that socket in, or just have texture on the plastic and spray the sections over with the rubber coating they have on the face plate. Also, they need to put a little adhesive on the rubber tips that go over the trigger stop switches. Those things fall of and disappear. If you do get a new elite2 remove them and put a tiny touch of glue.
One other tip, if you're playing a game that is heavy on bumper usage, map them to the paddles. The arm that depresses the actuator for the bumpers is a built-in point of failure on all one/series controllers, its long and brittle. They used to be worse on the first version of the xb1 controller where the bumpers were a single mould across the front of the controller, that could snap at the flex point.

It’s so good, comfortable, and great battery life! Unfortunately the right bumper failed on me during warranty so I had to change it….and got a refurbished one. I would think that there has to be SOMETHING that's different from the OG 2 or else MS couldn't say that it has "refined components that are built to last." Maybe they look the same but are made of a (slightly) different material??? Also, maybe the "cheap" white plastic is the same that the Series S is made out of?

Sent my Series 2 Elite in to MS, twice within the warranty for a non responsive/mushy A button. Both times it was sent back with nothing done. They claimed it was fine. Both times I submitted a ticket I included a video showing me pressing the A button 20 times, less than 10 of them registering. I took it apart and fixed it myself but it didn't last long. I tried just using a paddle button to replace A but years of muscle memory didn't go away. Needless to say I won't be buying any premium MS controllers ever again. My XB1X launch controller is going strong, 4 years on though.

I don't quite understand what the problem is with the controller. I've had zero problems with any of mine and I got 2 kids that are constantly dropping them on our hardwood floor. It would had been really interesting if you measure the parts with a calliper and maybe make a deeper assesment on blends and chamfers made on the corners. Either way, very interesting video!

@@akaoz2617 Oh wow! This looks so much nicer than on the preview photos! I got a Dreamcast inspired one (European Pal region cd case inspired) with a blue top and bottom, everything else on black except fully colored ABXY and red thumbsticks and of course a Dreamcast written on the controller.
The blue was one of my least favorite colors in the preview but i had dreamed of getting a Dreamcast inspired controller just 2 weeks before Xbox added these to the custom program and even asked Sega and Xbox to make one.
The blue color is much deeper and darker and it fits with the black grips really well. The fully colored ABXY are also so amazing it's hard to describe. The colors are super vibrant. I also love the bumpers and cross shaped d-pad in black and they look even nicer than the gunmetal parts in the standard black elite.
The top and bottom plates aren't the soft material like on the black one but that's because the black top and bottom are the same material as the grips and that couldn't be painted. I think the painted one feels incredibly good to the touch and it doesn't constantly look dirty like the black one. I'm constantly wiping the black one clean even though i always wash my hands before using it and don't snack when i use it.
All buttons and sticks work perfectly. I have 4 Elite Series 2 controllers and i have had a really good experience with quality control. My first one had an RB button that didn't register some of the time but it fixed itself after a few months and has been working perfectly since.
I really recommend mapping the left and right stick clicks to the smaller paddles on the bottom of the controller because i believe that will save you from any stick drift issues because you never have to press the analog sticks down. I got stick drift on my very first Elite v1 controller and got that replaced under warranty and mapped the clicks to the paddles and the replacement is still working great.
I can't wait to order more of these.
I posted 3 pics on my Twitter @EPICON8
The photos are a bit dark because i wanted to show how dark the blue is and still only the last photo where it's next to the black elite s2 shows how it looks to the eye.
