As a kid I loved going for rides in the car and as a teen I got the opportunity to help detail and even drive the car in the garage learning the importance of clutch modulation. The cars truly don't get the respect they deserve. Thanks for saving a car from another potential "1st Chep Ferrari" owner.
The Ferrari Mondial is definitely a cool car! I have a 1986 Ferrari Mondial 3.2 V8 Coupe and I think of it as the link between the Ferrari 308/328 and Ferrari Testarossa, it shares many components with it's siblings.
Great video -- thank you! One minor point: I'm not sure that Mondials didn't sell; after all, it had an over 10 year run (if you include the t's). I think the biggest problem is that the roll out of the Mondial coincided with the fuel injected (2 valve) motor, which was slower. Injected 308's were also slow, relatively speaking, but the Mondial got saddled with a bad rap, even though the later versions were good performers. Also, there were more electricals -- all those switches on the center console -- and electrics are not Ferrari's strong suit. But a great car -- I have a 3.2.
Mondials were a great seller for Ferrari back in the 80's nearly as many as the Testarossa in fact and the sales helped to fund the development of the F40!

I CAN work on cars, but chose a cadillac with an LS as my daily because I don't want to. That Mondial would be perfect for me if it had two more doors. I love fast four doors.
On my 1988 Mondial 3.2, I’ve had my Koni shocks rebuilt by Ian Gardiner Racing in Finedon, England. They are now like new. We are renewing the bushes now, using stock Ferrari bushes, not after market ones. Research shows stock are best! My car drives beautifully up to 83mph but I need new bushes for trackday’s! I’ve previously had it to 140mph at Silverstone and it was still wanting to go faster. It’s done 75,000 miles, & I love it. My previous Mondial was the 3.4t. Not as reliable and the engine out servicing was unaffordable. I joined the Ferrari Owners’ Club in 1982 & have owned 4 308 GT4’s & a 246 Dino, which was rusty. GT4’s are great but spare parts are hard to find, hence now having the Mondial 3.2! I’ve never had a bad moment driving it. These have ABS but no power steering. That’s mostly no hardship. It’s a great cruising car. They were built to take a family across a continent at speed in comfort, it is superb in that role! Mondial 3.2 QV wheels take modern tyres and can be fitted to 3.0 QV’s too. In England we have speed camera’s everywhere plus unmarked cop cars! I’m careful on the daily driving but using the Mondial on a track it comes alive!
I love my '85 QV Cab. Not really fast, but FUN and gives a great sensation of speed. Easy to work on as well. I swapped out the original 16 inch wheels with new 17 inch 348 wheels. (also turns heads) Cheers!

There was a Mondial for sale locally here in the midwest about 5 years ago or more, for like $20k.. I should have bought it, shoulda, coulda, etc, could have been 🤓
Great video. I couldn’t agree more on the Mondial being a great car. My first Ferrari was an 85 Mondial Cabriolet. There are so many haters. (Kind of the same story with my 928 which is also great). I now have a 348ts and love it but will always regret selling the Mondial.
I like 'em. I wouldn't *own* one these days, but I think I'm off cars right now. I had the use of a 1986 model 20odd years ago (courtesy of a former boss) and I genuinely thought it was a decent car. Of similar era cars I was able to drive at the time it was probably my favourite, the only issue I had with it was that it was LHD (cos - British). But then I also preferred my mates 944 S2 over his 964 turbo. It may not be the fastest nor the prettiest, but it was infinitely more practical to use day to day than a Testarossa I also got to use a couple of times, it just felt more 'usable' if ya catch my drift. I don't dislike the black wheels, as you pointed out the accents are satin black so they complement the car in that respect, silver would maybe date it a touch but appear more authentic, but whatever you do, please don't stick gold/bronze rims on the thing though...
Nowadays I LOVE its looks. If I had the space and money, I'd take one in a heartbeat. Even if it WAS a piece of junk. I'd park it next to my early '80s Esprit Turbo... that I would have too if I had the space and money. 😊
I don’t know that they are hated. The Spyders are certainly better looking cars than the coupes. They don’t bring the money that the 308’s bring but I’d buy one if I had $40-50k burning a hole in my pocket. I also hate myself because I love British AND Italian cars.
Gotta be honest I don't think the 308 is something people flex with. When people are flexing it's typically with the 2000s and newer but maybe that's a generation gap thing.
The motoring press pre interweb and now all the YT car ‘experts’ spent the last 30 years telling everyone that the Mondial, the little Dino thingamebob and the 400i were all crap, so no one wanted them and they remained affordable for the plebs like me. Now that everything else can only be bought with stupendous amounts of unobtainium, or by selling your first born and a kidney, suddenly all of the very same car ‘experts’ are now telling us how fantastic these cars are and how everyone must rush out and buy them. So guess what, in a few days time these will also be just as unobtainable for everyone except for the super-stupid (cough), I mean super rich. They’ve done the same with the 924, 944 and 928. We now have to pay air cooled 911 money for a 928. It drives me nuts.
#ihateallblackwheels but love you. I love the Mondial 100% for the same reasons you mentioned. I do have to get a newer one with body colored bumpers someday.

the Ferrari Mondial, in the public eye, is to Ferrari, what the 924, 944 and 928 were for Porsche. great cars, but no brand enthusiast will accept them as proper brand representations. which is a shame, because they are great cars, even if they were created, designed or build differently from the other brand vehicles. there's tons of cars out there like that, just brand underdogs, they either tried something to radically different from the norm, compete against another car and fail miserably, despite being a good car. or, as we see in modern days, the specific car just keeps getting bigger and bigger until they can release a new smaller model car and start scaling that up slowly over time. or a brand takes a beloved well known car *coughcoughintegracoughcough* and turns it into another bland 4 door sedan trying to bank on the nostalgic name and nothing else. i drive a third gen MR2. yeah it looks like a wanna be Porsche boxter spyder with a lack of power. but it's genuinely a nice fun affordable little underdog. and yeah, it tried to compete with "the" roadster, and was just unfairly tossed aside when it couldn't compete on the practicality front. but as a 6'1" with longer legs i don't fit in the driver seat of an NA or NB Miata without crushing my knee caps between the door and the steering wheel. and the NC is just a boat with a droptop, both in looks and weight.

Great video. I couldn’t agree more on the Mondial being a great car. My first Ferrari was an 85 Mondial Cabriolet. There are so many haters. (Kind of the same story with my 928 which is also great). I now have a 348ts and love it but will always regret selling the Mondial.
Good enough for Weird Science
Isn't this also one of a few Ferrari's that used the tail lights from a bus?
It’s an unrated Ferrari. Work of art. Just wait soon the haters will like it. I like the Mondial!
Casey, during your time working with classic cars as a mechanic, which one did you enjoy working on the most?
Ferrari Daytona
@@CaseyPutsch Did Ferrari use that V12 in anything else? It was the last FR V12 but they went with V8s and Flat 12s until the 90s right?
Love my Mondial T coupe more than my 348tb. It’s the best kept secret in the car world.
I like the black
Look past the internet you mean, Casey lol
#ihateallblackwheels but love you. I love the Mondial 100% for the same reasons you mentioned. I do have to get a newer one with body colored bumpers someday.
Cool!
they sold over 6k of them ,hardly a bad seller eh?
I LOVE IT!!!!!
Literally just commenting to point out the double positive in the title
Like I like the Ferrari 308 GTB rally cars. I always see the Mondial as two cars mashed together 🤷🏾♂️ I that it's easy to work. That's a big plus.
Casey: "Here in my garage, got my Lamborghini"
sorry had to 🤣
I don’t get it
@@CaseyPutsch The old youtube ad where the guy was like "Here in my garage, got this new Lamborghini here. Its fun to drive in the hollywood hills. But do you know whats more important than material things? KNOWLEDGE."
Not sure about the design of these, but black wheels actually look good tho.
I noticed the license plate! So does that mean it will be the Mrs' car?
This needs LB Walk wide body and it’ll be sick ferrari
I’ve always appreciated the Mondial
Keep the black wheels
i like the black wheels
I would consider it a classic ferrari, its not the one I would choose (F355 hardtop, and a hole in bulkhead for easy belt changes, in yellow please) but its a usable, yet sexy mid engined multi valved V8 thats gonna sing and scream in equal measure, have room for baby 👶 and associated 'accessories' 👩 🎒, and still not crucify you when its due a service!!
Playboy Express, for the discerning Gentlemen owner.......
The black wheels look cool tho, nothing wrong with black wheels.
Cool voices, they sold more Mondail coupes and cabrios than 328s or testarossa S. Ferrari considered it a sales successs
Mannnnn..... Not like I am a wizard of RUclips or anything... but... if you really wanna get some monetization from videos as a car guy...
especially for someone with your knowledge of cars... PLEASSSEEEE, show people how to buy a project car and maintaining cars... Good daily driver cars, some worth while classics, and even for some people who can afford supercars... Show how would you get a car from an auction and restore it to daily drive and modify it to get a blasting driving experience... Just like you are doing with your FERRARI. Why not do it with a Toyota Mr2 ? or a Celica? or a Honda Civic?? Believe me, I love your channel and I much rather hear your thoughts on this, than many of the young guys out there boasting about their first car... Also I am interested in your academy how do I get in touch???
Lmao your rants are a breath of fresh air.
the Ferrari Mondial, in the public eye, is to Ferrari, what the 924, 944 and 928 were for Porsche.
great cars, but no brand enthusiast will accept them as proper brand representations.
which is a shame, because they are great cars, even if they were created, designed or build differently from the other brand vehicles.
there's tons of cars out there like that, just brand underdogs, they either tried something to radically different from the norm, compete against another car and fail miserably, despite being a good car.
or, as we see in modern days, the specific car just keeps getting bigger and bigger until they can release a new smaller model car and start scaling that up slowly over time.
or a brand takes a beloved well known car *coughcoughintegracoughcough* and turns it into another bland 4 door sedan trying to bank on the nostalgic name and nothing else.
i drive a third gen MR2.
yeah it looks like a wanna be Porsche boxter spyder with a lack of power.
but it's genuinely a nice fun affordable little underdog.
and yeah, it tried to compete with "the" roadster, and was just unfairly tossed aside when it couldn't compete on the practicality front.
but as a 6'1" with longer legs i don't fit in the driver seat of an NA or NB Miata without crushing my knee caps between the door and the steering wheel.
and the NC is just a boat with a droptop, both in looks and weight.
Love the Ducati...s
The Mondial is a Pininfarina design.....and They did NOT design dogs🤨
It was always the appearance for me. I much prefer a 400i.
Pain in the flying buttress!
🔝🏁🐴👌
Every mechanical problem is just an excuse to buy more tools. I good excuse....
👏🏻
You don't look like a Russian Gangster from 2002.
You look like Jenson Button with a 'brighter' head.
