  • How I made a set of DIY lighting flags for tabletop photography. Product photography lighting setups are similar to traditional portraiture lighting setups, just on a smaller scale. I realized I needed a way to block my tabletop lights from the camera (to prevent flare and haze) and from other objects in the scene, including the background.

    If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to put together a little "cut-out" sheet (pattern) PDF for the leg/base pieces. But it's simple enough to come up with the template on your own. Just remember the notches should line up so that the base is flush. Also, you can use white foam core to create little bounce panels for fill light!

    Can I do this with cardboard sheets ?

      Yes. Really any material that will stand on its own. I prefer a black surface for flags, and white for reflectors.
