Sir this video is a golden nugget... I was having problem with my Ebay photo taking process. And by watching your video.. I learned a lot about Photography which is not my career. I am a truck driver but you're explaining things super simple to understand with comparable example . I am forever owe you this knowledge. Thank you so much for sharing sir Simpson..
i've been watching so many videos and nobody could even explain this simple stuff in a way that made sense, you did so well it really helped so much, thank you!
Excellent video not only did you provide an inexpensive set up but , but showed the effects of using the different lighting elements which is crucial for beginning photographers thank you so much best video on youtube!
Bro you definitely earned my like and subscribe. It’s the least I can do for you sharing something this valuable for free. Thanks so much for your help. You’ve made a difference.
Awesome video. I've done something similar, but wasn't aware that about using white surfaces on the sides and the "cloud". I will definitely add it to the setup. Here's a tip from me. You can buy a picture frame with glass for pretty cheap and put the glass flat on the surface underneath the item. It creates a cool reflection! Also, I put everything except the light source inside a large cardboard box (with 2 walls removed) which allows for the setup to be mobile.
I appreciate this video so much. I’ve been struggling with not having enough natural lighting at home for my photos and it’s making me less motivated. Your setup is what I needed. Thank you so much for your knowledge and willingness to share!
Agree! I’ve been doing product photography for over a decade using various cameras and tools. Never have I struggled more than after my recent iPhone upgrade.. I had an iPhone 12 Pro that made basic product photography dumbproof. Upgraded to iPhone 15 pro and my motivation to sell on eBay tanked. Why? Changes in how to take photos to utilize upgraded “features” provided by the iPhone 15 pro has thrown me for a huge loop. I’ve been struggling with camera setting, lighting changes, countless location setup experiments, etc for 10 months and am so over it! Looking back at nearly effortless great macro product photos taken with my iPhone 12 make me sick. Probably a combination of money spent on the upgraded phone, money lost bc I have no motivation to continue struggling with this, and time waste are all too much for me to stomach. Thank you for the cheap excellent tips!
Thank you so much. I literally realized I had my cubby (cube organizer shelf) unit that i could use the little cube as a light box. I already had a can light and diffused it and put a white board behind the cube section of shelf. THANK YOU!

I asked him a couple times, but he always said "well, it is hard to do at home". He died 5 years ago and never gave me useful tips. Thanks to you I know now, that I CAN INDEED do this! Your video is extremely helpful - you have my gratitude. 💚👏

You are GEM! This is exactly what I was looking for. I am planning to start a business, don't have the budget for professional photography but didn't want to have rubbish photos either. THANK YOU!
Personally, I like the natural light with nothing else the best for product photos. It clearly shows the correct color and allows the details of imperfection to come through. I think the examples you provided show that. I have the lowest return rate when I just take photos outside, instead of indoors with lamps and a box.
This is my favorite comment ☺️ I’m so glad you found it helpful. I look forward to what you think of my other videos. They range from beginner to advanced so you have a variety

Hey there! Nice tutorial, very informative on how to affordably set up your own lightbox. Regarding the hat itself, is there anything you would recommend for filling out the inside of the hat, so that the back of the hat looks really solid and not floppy with folds? Especially for a hat with a mesh back, like you're using here. Thanks!
thanks! as far as the hat, there are several "head molds" you could get that are made of foam. You could use like a stiff collar to but the hat around etc. Might take some looking but im sure you could find something to fit the hat around to keep it more formed. I had a similar product shoot with some flimsy bracelets. I needed to find something to hold them in a circle. I ended up finding a clear plastic container of appropriate size, cut it down and put the bracelet around it. After taking the photo just photoshopped out the plastic parts that were noticeable in the photo. Hope this helps!
@@willsimpsonphoto Awesome, thanks for the advice and for taking the time to give it! I've found myself in charge of taking product photos for the headwear company I work for, and have been looking around for tips haha. I'll hunt around for some clear plastic containers/objects that could fill it out with some modification and see how it goes.
Really great tutorial! I do LEGO photography, and I often find myself shooting indoors. I am a very beginner and this tutorial will help me a lot. I have used the "cloud" trick but not the bounce. But I have a question for you, if I may. I often have difficulty while shooting indoors, because of the ambient lights. I'll try to explain: if I have an ambient light, let's say from a window or from a roof lamp, I will have shadows coming from different directions. How can I avoid this? I am seeing in this video that you are using a table lamp but also some other source of lights, but no shadows are coming from the "not visible" source. As I was saying, I am a really beginner, hoping to get some advice from a pro. I am subscribing to your channel, cause I really like your contents!
couple options, you can turn off the ambient lights (if not outside light), or cover it up and just use your lights. You can also bring your light closer to the item to overpower the other light. The reason my shadows are less is because the white bottom, back and left side are reflecting the light and overpowering the shadows. Its all about just tweaking until you find what works. Hope this helps.

Thank you for making this! This is very very helpful for someone with no photography sense like me but need to take product photos 😭 will immediately try this!
camera settings are not really super important as you just want to set the camera for proper exposure. Start with: ISO 100 Fstop 2.8 (whatever the lowest the camera can go) Shutter 1/125 (use a tripod) Then adjust the shutter and ISO as needed to get proper exposure. Try keeping the ISO below 400 so you don't get too much unneeded noise. Using a tripod will allow you to do a long exposure on shutter as long as nothing is moving in the photo.
It’s so easy a caveman can .... get it done 😂
This video was super informative I have to try this 👍

Hey thanks for the video. Could you please make one on the camera settings?
camera settings are not really super important as you just want to set the camera for proper exposure.
Start with:
ISO 100
Fstop 2.8 (whatever the lowest the camera can go)
Shutter 1/125 (use a tripod)
Then adjust the shutter and ISO as needed to get proper exposure. Try keeping the ISO below 400 so you don't get too much unneeded noise. Using a tripod will allow you to do a long exposure on shutter as long as nothing is moving in the photo.
Best video on product photography. God bless this man 🥲
