I love their raw ballsy rock sound. They were different than a lot of bands at this time because they used less effects and they weren’t overproduced like a lot of bands during this era. All the musicians were super talented as well. Like a super group.
Hello MrCalifornia💥All’s Band are great... or bad🤷♀️LEE, he ANNOYS me🌚What cinema to play his guitar... Others are largely at your level without all this Trafalgar... and time after time: Discordances RAY/Lee🤷♀️🎶i’ like very nice RAY🎵🔥And Badlands is death ( RAY was the LEADER🔥💋)
I saw them London Astoria one of the final shows. We got tickets by shear fluke as we were passing on Charling Cross Rd and i spotted on the schedule they were playing the next week. Best guitar player I've ever seen. I sang In a Dream at my brother's funeral so this band and songs means a lot to me. RIP Ray.
I rank Robert Plant as the best natural pure rock voice of all time and it is obvious to me he has been a huge infleunce upon legions of singers (including myself) and I hear his influence in the singing by Ray Gillen here, and dude from Greta Van Fleet, but Ray was a man on par with Plant, just a phenomenal voice, maybe even better (Plant was the first though so respect please, he broke the ground first) and a pure talent. Buddy from Greta though, and I love the band though they mine Zeppelin and only Zeppelin for look, sounds, even song framework but that singer just ills me out. He took Plants worst vocal malfunction that showed itself maybe twice in his whole recorded carreer, and made it the focus of his whole tone. Sorry, not a talent, a mimic with bad taste.Badlands was the real shit, the change to Jeff Martin on drums turned out to be a huge jolt of inspiration for a bande that was stellar already. Voodoo Highway was just mental, and I still listen to it regularly, wow what a fantastic album, I still listen to it on my heavy rotation, just like Zeppelin,Bad Company, Purple, Floyd, and even some metal, like Priest,Sabbath, and Queensryche, and like every good Canadian, Rush. But my playlist has no room for wanna be Gretas, they are not the deal. Once again, Badlands should have been mega huge, they were so,so, good. Thanks Jake,Jeff,Ray,and Greg for Voodoo Highway, and thanks also to Eric for stellar drumming on the debut album.
This video is way too short. Seeing Jake in this, he's so young. What a talent, they should have been HUGE. So many Jake/Badlands fans still out there to this day, still supporting him. RDC is awesome too, so glad he returned after his hiatus and still making music! 👍To my favorite guitarist 👍, I thank you.
Saw these guys at the Bacchanal in San Diego back in '91...to date STILL one of the best shows I've ever seen (and I've seen a few..!) Between Ray's amazing vocals and Jake tearing it up on guitar, EVERYONE in the venue was blown away by this performance..even the sound and light men..! Truly a huge loss when Ray passed... These guys should have gone on to WAY bigger and better things... RIP Ray...
I bought the 1st Badlands and Blue Murder (as well as Impellitterri's Stand In Line) the same day and those 3 cassettes were basically all I listened to for close to a year
@@kingofdragontown9680 Lynch mob's 2nd disc was a masterpiece.. if you never listened to it.. you should. they got a different singer (robert mason) and he killed it dude!
Jake is one of my top favorite guitarists of all time and Ray has such an amazing voice. I've been singing in bands for years and what Ray does is pretty amazing. Hitting notes that are higher is one thing. The real challenge is having a great tone to your voice throughout a range like that. I wish things ended up way different.
Mainstream media sucks! Badlands was an amazing wakeup call! Unfortunately media had other directions it was focused on... Thanks Jake E Lee and company for your amazing contribution to our World.
I saw these guys back in the day at Arnold Hall on the Air Force Academy Base in Colorado Springs. The theater seats probably a couple of thousand people maybe 3,000, but there were literally only about 100 people there. I felt so bad for them but they did do a good show from what I remember...
Such a great voice. I never heard of him until somebody came up to us after one of our shows yrs ago and said I sounded like Ray...I went to check him out and was very flattered. For the record...his voice is way better then mine. Lol
The more I listen to those first two albums, the more I;m convinced they are the best band of that era. Not a weak note on either album. They should have been much bigger than they were, and possibly could have if they lasted.
I've been into this Jake E. Lee/Bandlands/Ray Gillian mood. I love this old shit. I saw Bandlands in San Francisco at a club called The Stone, with Saraya opening. Man, that one of the coolest shows I've ever witnessed Gillian and Lee were just off the rails! I was front row and Jake opened a can of Sprite and it splashed up on me. Too bad Gillian is dead. One of the best voices in music history! Hands down!!!!!
I saw these guys back in '89 on their first tour. Kicked ass. It's a shame Gillen passed. He could sing some of the old Sabbath songs well. Great vocal range. Jake E. Lee on guitar just made for a well rounded band.
He was and is every bit the guitarist Randy Rhoads was, didn't get near enough credit severely underrated! There I said it, especially his rhythm playing very complex rhythms, watching him play the US Festival and playing over the mountain the whammy bar parts and just using both hands on the neck to do it!
I lived in SoCal from 1984 thru 1994. In the 80's I rode up to Hollywood every weekend, met allot of bands, and have to say that these guys were one of the most down to earth that I ever met. I cried when I found out that Ray had died........
Such an under rated band full of top shelf talent. Their albums still hold up today & by God you can't help but hear their influence on bands like Guns & Roses who came much later. RIP Ray Gillen.
Out of all those bands that Jake mentioned, Jellyfish stood alone in every category with perfection. The one band I would love to see come back before the end. Though I did see Badlands back in 90' at the Palace in Hollywood and was stunned by they're performance. Ray's vocal's would hit you right in the heart while the band laid down some tremendous grooves non stop.
Killer band, consider myself very lucky to have seen them in Aug 1991 touring for Voodoo Highway. Ray's voice live was absolutely incredible, only seeing Alice w/ Layne (for the Facelift tour) beats out seeing Badlands with Ray as my favorite live show (as far as vocalists go). I had totally forgotten until i watched this video that I caught one of Jeff Martin's drumsticks, still have that thing stored away somewhere...
With all the drama in this band and the tragic death of Ray Gillen...these guys ended on a high note and left a great legacy behind them. Who cares how much or very little credit they got. As an individual, I am a happy camper. This is coming from a 44 year old who had Voodoo Highway when it came out and did not like it. I revisited the band 2 weeks ago and I am hooked...for life.
At 23:23 "Whiskey Dust", my favorite drinkin' tune. I always come home from work on a hot summer night, crack a cold one, throw my headphones and crank this song when I'm outside sittin' on the deck.
Badlands /jake had this swampy sound like a hard rocking Harvey Mandel and Ray had an amazing voice and no one else seemed to sound that way. It's such a shame Ray passed and they couldn't keep it together. I thought they were really really good and had something really unique.
Straight forward Rock! I respect how they stayed away from overproduced tones, multi layering everything and just wanted their own band. Jake E Lee is still carrying on the music in Red Dragon Cartel.🤘
Saw these guys play a bar in San Diego in the early 90's. Gillen was a no show, so Martin sand and played drums. It was a great show, no curfew, they must've played for 3 hours.
Roommate and I saw these guys and bang tango in Austin TX at the back room. Fucking awesome. Tommy Best if you read this holla at me, still in Lubbock.
Monster band brimming with talent, liked them since the first LP. Still have this on PAL format VHS from Australia & bought it to the States when I moved 20 yrs ago hoping to one day getting it converted but thanks to you I can watch it here. Thanks a bunch man!
I just recently discovered this band months ago, I LOVE the vibe and interests of this group! They do things what they truly feel and their way, so I respect them all the way! I would add Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble with Jimmie Vaughan and Joe Satriani as part of their ultimate rock show. xD
Man, what a flashback. Such amazing music. So sad too, as much as I love the guy, hearing and seeing Jake here makes you realize how much of a wreck he has become.
Weird we got the same name I'm a junior though I've been playing guitar since I was 8 and sounds alot alike I was told my dad was dead but from Jake Lee Jr. To you Jake Lee your badass dude !!!
"Ray's not feeling well, so he decided he didn't want to make the trip" - very eerie if you know the whole story
I love their raw ballsy rock sound. They were different than a lot of bands at this time because they used less effects and they weren’t overproduced like a lot of bands during this era. All the musicians were super talented as well. Like a super group.
In my opinion, Badlands is one of the greatest rock bands in the history of rock and roll. Ray/Jake partnership was magical.

When people want to talk about how great greta van fleet is I wish they would take time to listen to Badlands. This was a phenomenal band.

Thats funny Greg Chaisson turned me on to Greta Van Fleet.
You are so right. I was looking for them for long time. I can listen to Ray and the guys playing. They are so great.
Ray was such a shining star that was lost way too soon. RIP man, you're missed dearly brother. xo

They still give me chills when I listen to them play. So glad that I got to see them 3 times in concert. What a Great sound they had. So much talent.
Same here. I 🖤 this band. Miss these days so much.

Ray had such a tremendously soulful voice! Loved his voice! Jake was/is definitely a great player!
The lineup for the 2nd album "Voodoo Highway" - Ray, Jake, Greg and Jeff - is the BEST Hard Rock'n' Roll Band EVER.
There were 3 "shoud be huge" bands in the late 80s and early 90s, Badland, Blue murder and Lynch mob
I bought the 1st Badlands and Blue Murder (as well as Impellitterri's Stand In Line) the same day and those 3 cassettes were basically all I listened to for close to a year
Never dug Lynch Mob truthfully. Love Dokken and Sacred Groove is perfection, but couldn't ever dig Lynch Mob.

The music sounds as unique today as 30 years ago. Badlands is it's own genre.
Badlands first 2 records are really good. Jake is up there as one of the greats.
Man. What a band. Full of talent.
Best bluesy hard rock band of the 80s 90s.

Still no one tops this.
Oh boy what a loss to music.
Also Ray looks sick!
I have no doubt he was an addict.
He died from aids not too long after this. He was probably already sick.
@@jasonsmouse6570 Yeah he was an heroine addict as well.
Well he was a hella good singer and a cool front man, too bad he couldn't break free from that garbage. Some do many don't

I still regularly listen to the 1st album, don't think I'll ever tire of it. And RG, what a singer.
Great tribute to Badlands! Wish they were still making music...
I've been into this Jake E. Lee/Bandlands/Ray Gillian mood. I love this old shit. I saw Bandlands in San Francisco at a club called The Stone, with Saraya opening. First row for Saraya would've looked good.
Prophetic words!! He indeed did “GIVE IT TO YOU”😢😢😢 that’s why I can’t stream the music anywhere
The most underrated band of all time! That's that!
Ray Gillian poss best singer / frontman ever. Right there with Plant Rodgers Tramp Roth etc..R.I.P. Ray🎸🎸🎼🎼🎵🎵💜😎😎👍👍👍🔥🔥🌈

Saw them at Irvine Meadows. Great show! Loved the first album.
Absolutely love badlands! They kick ass,RIP Ray gillen, one of these days on my bucket list is pay respects to him and visit his grave here in nj
This band is as bad ass as they come! R.I.P. Ray! Gone but NEVER forgotten!
When this band came out in 89 they blew me away!!! I was into Thrash but loved this band. The best hard rock blues band from the 80s imo 🖤🤘
This music has really stood the test of time well, classic songs!
Even breaking up, they were legends, that London show was so f'ing good and they were literally feeding it from their impending split!
Jake n Ray, two of the best
Always wanted to see this, never seen it back in the day. First 2 Badlands albums, both classics
At least we still have their albums
I LOVED BADLANDS!! RIP Ray Gillen!! Why????
Badlands one of the best band
What a guitarist. His playing was always exciting and full of energy.
Jake E. Lee namechecks Alice In Chains and King's X back in '91... Pretty damn cool.
A.I.C. WAS GREAT ORIGINAL BAND ( THE ORIGINAL FOUR) LOVE THEIR MUSIC ITS COOL THAT THEY MENTION THEM
Jake's solos were so obscure !! that's why they were awesome !!
Ahhh Jake..Ahhh Ray.. I never get tired of it

Jake is a better showman than Randy was, Jake is an animal on stage
Great band. I wish they wouldn’t have took them off of Spotify, it sucks listening to them on RUclips lol
