Worldclass - they blew all away, not from this planet - they were a force
Everything I’ve ever heard Ray sing, weather it be a rehearsal, a demo or even messing around in the studio. He’s just incredible. He never half assed anything. He’s my favorite singer of all time, and it’s a shame no one knows who he is when I say he’s my favorite.
We all know what an amazing singer he is..I saw Badlands in 92 ..I have a signed photo and a used drum stick ..plus my tour tshirt still..Ray lives on through us and all the thousands of Badlands fans..🎸🇬🇧🤘
He's my number 1 among vocalists ,too . Always. A huge shame , his talent deserves greater recognition despite all horrible and sad story...
every serious rock n roll fan knows exactly who Ray Gillen was ....
An angel
The patron Saint of prisoners and sinners also protecter 6January.
Ray Gillen.. Legend.
RIP Ray Gillen !.. Jake E. Lee, the best !... I will always love Badlands !...
Very influenced by the Zeppelin sound
Word for word i agree and feel the same way!! Love Jake with Ozzy...Badlands and everything else he's put his music into !!!!🤘☢🤘
I was there that night. Watching them was like watching led Zeppelin. I never saw another band from that genre of hair metal rock that could play better than Badlands could especially with that singer. Incredible show.
But Badlands never was a hair band... you know It better than me, since you were on this gig. They weren't another cheap copy of Motley Crüe.
@@aIanzin every band I ever saw had hair. Get me now 😎
@@chriskroll4166 in fact, you're right hahahahah
but you know... this is more bluesy than any band of that period
@@aIanzin I like blues-based Glam hair metal bands from the 80s. I could always tell if these guys have been listening to black blues or not. Like great white or Cinderella.
if you watch the guitar playing here , he is one of the greatest players , has feel , has skill and emotion ..and can play anything
I had a tattoo artist friend and we used to hang at his shop. One day we’re sitting there and Voodoo Highway is playing in the background. I was like “JFC who the hell is this?” Dave has long passed from cancer but since that day at his shop I’ve never stopped listening to Badlands. Thanks Dave!
I was at this show. Changed my life as a guitarist, I stopped using the bar as a crutch. Jake and the band were absolutely smokin! The extended solos ripped my head off!
Hehehe...a number of years before, the same thing occurred watching him play for Ozzy (in a cast). Caught him a couple years before this in Toronto (with Badlands)...and 'BLOWN' away...indeed...the 'bar' was broken.
warren davis
Jake's playing changed me in 1983 when I heard the US Festival!!! saw him a number of times since - incredible. I got a special invite to see RDC the other night in Philadelphia, each time I see this guy I am re-inspired. JUST AWESOME!!!! going to meet him in a few weeks. Mark that off the bucket list!!!
;-)
Terry Tyderek Jake was incorporating grunge before grunge became popular.
You are quite fortunate to see this show. I CANNOT believe I didn't go to this show!
Haters will hate... but Jake is in the "virtuoso" echelon of guitar players.
Hands down one of the best
i've never heard anyone "hate"
They definitely are out there...We know who hates on him and its for about the stupidest reason too! Jake E Lee!!🤘☢🤘
Love his work too his guitar 🎸 solo in Bark at the moon 🌙 is legendary
I Love Jake!! And Ray-RIP!!!
Been a Badlands fan from day one. I'm in my 50s and still listen to their debut self title album every week. What turned me on to this band was when I heard the guitars and the fantastic vocals on Dreams in the dark for the first time. I was like, MAN who the heck is this on the radio it sounds bad ass! You were the best Ray. Thanx for the video!!
I can't believe I'm able to watch this concert. I'm absolutely floored as I was at THIS SHOW! Incredible concert and band. Amazing and spot on as you can tell. The opening act was Saraya if I remember correctly. RIP Ray Gillen, what a huge and unfortunate loss. Before the show after their sound check Ray & Jake (before jumping into a limo) signed many autographs and shook many hands. Not only a great band but good guys as well!
Saw the same show in New York city at the Ritz,,,it was Saraya, wicked cool show, ended up partying with Steelheart that night,we were tryin to get on any tour we could, chek out Heady Metal,Ghoastdance, you wont regret it,,,Enjoy my friend,,,Glencifer,,,,1
What a great band. Too bad they couldn't stay together. out of respect to Ray Gillen, RIP. He was such a great singer.
So much potential. 'DUSK' is a great CD as well
Recording quality can be nasty, but regardless, Ray's vocal talent still shines through every time!!
Kick ass!
And yes many thanks!!!
Great band great live reproduction!
Not many bands can do this
Jake very well deserved his contribution to the music excellent guitarist awesome licks
Randy has his place no doubt. But Jake was technically so much better in his prime. His stuff was really hard to learn and reproduce live. How many people still don’t play Bark at The Moon correctly after all this time right.? Any good guitar player can tell you that. He was a monster.
This was a great show and even greater band.
I was at this show.....this was the 2nd time I had seen them.....So Fucking good!!! Hands down one of the greatest rock bands ever!!!
Jeff Martin is quite the Badass on the drums!!!
I was at this show. SO good, got to talk to Jake afterward about his muscle car collection. Super down to earth dude! Still have the pick he gave me and the ticket stub from that night. Great band!!!
How cool
I remember when I first saw Jake I was floored how he could do it all. Speed yeah in spades,Jake had a way of melting a fretboard then adding so much feel to his style. When Badlands came out I jammed to it all the time. Ray and Jake made such a rockstar combo. Best era ever for music if you remember those days you know how great they were. So sad we lost Ray he was such a talent. Glad Jake is out there again. Greatly appreciate the video.
Jeff Martin should of been there from the beginning! Makes Eric Singer sound stiff. This band is just great. Would love to see a pro shot concert of this line up. I watch this every week. Thanks for posting.
I love this show too..Ive still got my tour shirt..signed 8x10 b/w and Jeffs used drum stick!!!..🤘🎸🇬🇧
Badlands. Was. Great. Totally. Great all around. Jake. Never. Stops. Till. Today. Still. Rocking red dragon. Outfit. One. Of y fav. Guitarists
Thank you for this! I miss this band so much and still listen to them all of the time. For me they are the Metallica of blues rock. When you listen each one is right there! What a great band. Songs don’t get any better than this!
I really dug them when they came on the scene. As a teen taking guitar lessons, it was refreshing to hear a new band that wasn’t like the other glam or pop rock. They were 70s riff Rock. For me, it was all classic Rock, Bandlands, G&R, and Aerosmith at the time. Ray + Jake + good songs, but the wrong time. It they came along 2 years earlier, I’m convinced they would’ve been bigger.
Saw the Dr. Feelgood tour and when Winter's Call started up after the acoustic part before the concert I swear that song got a bigger ovation than Crue did their whole show. I had already been listening to their first album quite often but, wow I had no idea they were so popular at the time.
you were high , I went to that tour crue were at their apex one of the best shows I've seen...
@@Streetstraystx are you sure YOU weren't high ?
1:02:24 🤯🤯🤯 My favorite guitarist completely blowing my mind with a guitar lick 30 years after the album was released.
DAMN I MISS REAL ROCK AND ROLL! This band was SO great! Thank you for posting this my friend!
go to a Red Dragon Cartel show - you will not be disappointed!
God Damn You Ray why did you leave us so soon !!!
I concur such a loss!
I agree, but the dude didn't "Jimmy Up" and, well...here we are
@@valyaostrander1858do we know that for sure ??? Busted a few Jimmy hats back in the day😮😮😮
They were amazing rays voice extrodinary ❤
Very special thanks for uploading this show!!! *Badlands* was so great... but times were changing, grunge was coming on and for some reason, this great band got left behind. Such a shame! I still miss *Ray Gillen*, one of the all time best rock voices ever! Right up there with *Plant*, *Coverdale* and *Dio* IMHO. Thank you so much for this show, what a treat you gave us fans of *Badlands*!!!
Did you ever the ear the stuff Ray did with Sabbath on here ???
Thanks for uploading. Massively under-rated band that just came out at the wrong time.
Wow!! Thank you big-time from the heart for uploading this!! This is the first time I get to see BADLANDS concert in full thanks to you!!! So killer and its back in the day!! Woohoo!!! Lovin this!!🤘☢🤘
This is a rock and roll show..... Best band, this side of Kings x.
Best band ever.
Whoever you are, you are THE MAN for uploading this!!! What a great band Badlands was. And we lost Ray Gillen was too soon. RIP
anthshar
such a great band. loved Reys voice. one of the best ever.
have all of their albums.
I saw em in Sept 89. Amazing show. They opened for Great White.
wonderful to see a full concert upload of the fantastic Badlands, no band could come near them during their unfortunately short existence. R.I.P to the brilliant Ray Gillen, what a voice!
OMG!!!! Thank you sooooo much for sharing this. I was there. It was a school night and looking back (22 years later) it was worth it to go and fall asleep in whatever classes I had that next day. Good times indeed!
Fucking dynamite video !
Saw TNT, Loudness and Badlands at Great Woods,Mansfield,MA. In July 89. What a fucking glorious night of guitar THAT was !!!!
I got to see this tour in a small club in SLC, UT. It was my first concert. One of the best shows of seen to this day.
I truly appreciate this ... nobody can get the any remasters or anything ... bless you man a true gift you have given 🤘
Wow. Thank you for posting this. This is the one band I would have loved to see live and finally I get to. Ray's voice is unbelievable and very consistent throughout the show. There are not a lot of singers that lose it after the first couple of songs. He was the man. R.I.P. Ray Gillen.
I saw this tour at Rock Candy in Seattle. It was a drunken brawl in a dive bar and I loved every minute of it.
Saw Lee on Bark at the Moon tour, I don't know How I missed this 🤔💯🔥
I was here at this show, I think it was recorded and released on Video shorty after. Too great of a band to be so short lived. Ray was on a Radio Call in show (RPM Real Precious Metal w/Scott Loftus) when in town, I was able to get through and asked how he had such a raspy, rough speaking voice, but could hit any note on the charts. He humbly just thanked me and credited his Rock-N-Roll lifestyle for his voice. RIP Ray---Jake is putting something ne together I here!
LOVE THIS!!! Interestingly, I'm friends with Jake's current bassist in RED DRAGON CARTEL and my BAMF BRO Greg Chaisson is banging the bass here. Check out his new band KINGS OF DUST!!!
I saw them in concert around this time as well in Fayetteville, North Carolina. I was sick as a dog recovering from bronchitis but there was no way I was going to miss them. The set list here is pretty similar to what they played here. It was a small club and Saraya opened. Anyone else see them in concert ??
YES .IN HICKORY NC. I COULD SEE THEM PLAYING HUGE ARENAS.UN BE LIEVABLE.
I wish I remembered everything from the two times I saw Badlands. So much talent.
I wish Jake would play "The Last Time" nowadays.... one of their best!
Fuck Yeah! I never get sick of playing that song. Pumps me up every time. Has to be LOUD! Ooh girl I'm losing you...
Yes but with another vocalist ..🙄
Was a big fan of Badlands , but by the time the tour around Voodoo Lounge was coming to London, UK RG had left … this sure makes up for it! Thank you. 2 class albums, a great guitarist with superb feel.
Your memory was be failing ypu - BADLANDS never toured without Ray. That was Ray on the 'Voodoo Highway' UK tour because they had to bring him back at the promoter's insistence. But, there was a lot of animosity on stage obviously (documented in a Kerrang! live review of the Astoria (wa it?) show). That was the last ever Badlands tour - they only did a couple of L.A. area show with Ray's successor, John West, before breaking up.
I never said they toured without Ray, my memory’s ok mate cheers.
BUT I do remember reading (presumably in a copy of Kerrang!) that he had left the band and a female singer was to replace him… and at the time my mate never got round to booking tickets for July ‘92 London show so at first I was ok with not going as I didn’t fancy seeing them without Ray singing , only then since to find out he did play! 🤦♂️
@pjym9686 Right, they were gonna tour with Debby Holliday from the LA band STILETTO and then had to bring back Ray so they would not be in breach of contract in the UK.
@@michaelschmidt9708ah that’s it! Cheers.
Still hope to see Jake one day, the man’s tone… and feel 🤘🏻
@pjym9686 I saw Jake with OZZY and several times with BADLANDS - those were his peak years. Also saw him with WICKED ALLIANCE (w/ Mandy Lion of WWIII and Ray Luzier on drums, 10 years before he joined KorN), as well as the second ever gig by RED DRAGON CARTEL. He was still good with RDC but only maybe at 70% of where he used to be. But, I'll always be a massive Jake fan.
1:02:26 WTF was was Jake doing? I've never seen anyone doing that. Amazing!
Thumb barre, huh? So hasn't Jake himself!
Makes sense since this lick has four notes played on the high E and dang how smooth is this slide on the 2nd!
If these guys would have come out in the 70's they would have been huge
Bill Wren; I 100% agree!
They already had a band in the 70's very similar, they were called Led Zeppelin
Little fun fact, I love this drummers style, very much like my own. He was also the vocalist for Racer X.
Jeff Martin - also the singer racer x
+MetalDisorder Wreck, your right that's Eric Singer on DRUMS , not the singer for RACERX !!!!!!!!!!!!! these people don't know what they are talking about.
+MetalDisorder Wreck the singer for RACERX was a skinny dark haired guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+steve kennedy It's Jeff Martin on drums. Eric always played a double bass kit, Jeff played with a single
Yes, Jeff Martin sang with Racer X off and on and he also played the drums on the Voodoo Highway album and on tour for Badlands.
These guys are as good live if not better than the record! I can feel my face getting ripped off!!!
Great Band Frozen In Time Here!!
JUST FANTASTIC,,,THESE WERE THE DAYS RIGHT HERE
ray singing was always in top shape weather singing high and hard or soft and bluesy he always put his all heart into his vocals. his stage presents wasn't much but he damn sure made up for it with his chops r.i.p ray
His lack of stage presence was his downfall for sure. Jake was more visually stimulating.
Dear God, I want REAL Rock back, and while you are at it please bring Ray back and reunite him with these boys. I still blast this bands jams through my truck speakers with the windows fully down and get looks like "Damn that dude is Jammin " !
I know there is a lot of controversy regaurding how Gillen conducted himself atbthe end of his life but i still love this band. I wish the records were available again. Ill never forget buying the 2nd album at my local used record store and being blown away
Jake is such killer guitar player🤘🤘🤘🤘
Damn I love this band. I just wish the person filming new the difference between a bass solo and a guitar solo for how to direct the camera.
Winters Call .... LIVE....are you freakin kidding me!!!!! THANKS!!!!!
I love them, they were awesome, it would be cool a reunion with Jeff Martin taking the vocals...
This was a great band and certainly deserved to be bigger than they were. Love this band and have from their start til now. I can't go for very long without listening to their albums. They had a lot of depth in their music and a good amount of 70's Blues and Roll which was great. Not many were trying to play this way except for Tesla. When the grunge bands came out and made hairbands extinct, Badlands got lumped in there and didn't deserve it. I hope that Jake E. Lee will come back soon!
i agree with dwayne i think he was ozzys best guitar player also
I saw these guys open for great white and tesla, had to be 90/91.. They rocked the place! Thanks for sharing!
Ray Gillen the perfect singer. Jake E. Lee the perfect guitarist. Badlands the perfect band.
Great footage. Thanks for sharing
Love them
There hasn't been a group of hard rock/funkabilly or whatever genre you choose , that has the talent of BADLANDS! Thankfully Jake has the creative juices flowing again ! And RDC is rockin but with a modern 5 FDP that I like because Jake is in, but really I am a fan of what doesn
't sell I guess because I take BADLANDS against anything and I don't look back! I hope that when I die Ray says man I heard u singing Rumblin Train and fkn loved it bro! Let's Jam! HEAVEN !
Thank you for posting this awesome concert of this outstanding group!!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Wish they could have gotten to do more albums, Sounds like they really could have built on this really great foundation. Acoustic Badlands would be really cool & interesting to hear
It is strange 2 me that we can forget about true artestry, the will 2 control ,an instrument,,,this is the gift...ZOSO 1
I'm reluctant to call Badlands a hair band, but dog gone it they had great hair. But Ray Gillen is unmatched. What a great singer. And Jake is such a badass. Greg's bass playing is so awesome. They flamed out fast. What an unfortunate end. I love this band.
Okay
Confirmed
Jake is my favorite guitar dude!
Was there a band in 1991 that was better than Badlands??? HELL NO
Hey Scott, saw these guys at the Ritz in New York city, same set list,it was AMAZING Jake is one of the CHOSEN guitarist in our lifetime, that was TRUE 2 his craft, even though he was screwed on his royalties constantly by his employers,,,we wont mention ANY names here,,,,FKN LOVE Jakee,Ray,Greg and Eric, these 2 albums were worth 2 Zepp albums,,,its hard 4 me 2 say that,,,but they mean that much 2 me....Glecifer 1...
This is great. Thank you to whoever recorded this so well in my home town.
These guys should've been much bigger !!! Great band. And much better with Jeff Martin on drums.
I wish they taped the cat club show in New York in 1989 when the first album came out on TITANIUM records.
Thanks for taking this show. Very nice.
awesome band! love it!!! thank you!
Jake is out of control and destroying the guitar!
I seen them twice in Chicago ! That was an awesome show ! Thanks🤘🤘
For me Rey has the greatest of all vocalists whether they be blues, metal, rock or hard rock. He had incredible range and power. Yes I think he's a better vocalist than Ronnie. No disrespect to RJD.
Happy Birthday in heaven today Ray Gillen !!
I sincerely doubt a dude who knowingly infected dozens of women with AIDS is chilling up on a cloud somewhere.
Was this@the Aragon Ballroom? If so I was there and remember being blown away. Ray Gillen one of my all time fave vocalists!
Thanks, great set so far!!! RIP Ray. :(
Jake is the man
Love it. Did u see last beat of 1st. song - drummer bounces right stick up above his head & nonchalantly catches with left without looking? !!!
Great show. I liked the part where he is taping another guy taping the show before the encore.
such an amazing band!!!!! !!
Bob, no shit, I was at that show. Flaming Mug was the name of the bar. I think it was summer of 92, and I think Jake and Ray were in "hate" mode as they played a short set and didn't interact much. Deep Purple song was the encore, Speed King or Black Night, can't remember, but I think Speed King. They didn't play 3 Day Funk, which pissed me off. Still, even with the tension between them a great, great show.
totally awesome what a great band they were!🤘
Rumbling Train jammmmm - yeahhh!!!!!!!!
Very underrated guitarist and band!!!!
Great, thaks
Thanks for sharing!!!!!
