  • Savage - Featuring Ray Gillen - 1981 - This video was recorded for the "Captain Mels Variety Show" which was a local cable tv show in the New York Tri state area. The drummer here is Donald Siudmak, who went on to found the band Platinum. Platinum is still together and making new music on Heaven And Hell Records.
The guitarist Marco Castelluccio is the brother of HBO Sopranos character Furio aka Federico Castelluccio.
Ray Gillen was 24 in this video. Savage then became Vendetta, and then Ray left to join Rondinelli, then on to Black Sabbath, and then formed Badlands with Jake E. Lee.

She is. She's on the Ray Gillen Facebook page, Armida Amy Gillen. I wonder is she's of Latin descent, and if Ray had some Native American blood in him. He certainly looks like he might have both, and "Sun Red Sun," seems to have Native American themes and imagery it. Ray commented in an interview that his song lyrics were "very personal."

Hi Everyone, I have the digital copy of this video I was the bass player- I will post it soon. To the few people that criticize the video about sound quality are complete assholes knowing where this was filmed -I grew up with Ray and he went on to do much better things obviously but we can take a look back at some of the things he did a 22 years old that makes this video special. What made This video special he would sing the Beatles, and Judas Priest and Led ZeppelinAnd Van Halen -he had tremendous range and great stage presence that you can see at a young age. I have some other photos much better videos this was the beginning of SAVAGE-we went on to do much better things better songs all over New Jersey clubs like the hole in the wall, Soap factoryMothers in Wayne. At the time the clubs had Twisted Sister, TT quick, Molly hatchet, and Jessie bolt, and white tiger. Best time of my life enjoy the video and don’t be too worried about sound quality and delay in the guitar. This video is about Ray- rest in peace my brother!!

It states that Ray Glllen was 24 in this video, however he was born on May 12, 1959, so he was 23, maybe even 22 if this was recorded before May 12, 1982. Nonetheless, at 22, 23, or 24, Ray had the power in his voice, & was a perfect fit when he replaced Glenn Hughes on the spot back in 1986. Three years later, he completely rocked on the debut Badlands album! His passing & the terrible circumstances surrounding his death in December 1993 hit me pretty hard at the time. I was so lucky to have seen him live three times, once with Sabbath in 1986 & twice with Badlands in 1989 & 1991. He kicked major ass at each show & I consider him one of my all time favourite vocalists. Of course, Ronnie James Dio is tops on my list!

The beginning of Ray finding his voice. Very raw indeed. Certain missed things here and the drummers timing and overall knowledge of the song is not great. Sorry, I just had to say it. Anyways ive sucked worse. HAHAHA.
