    Hi Eddie, how are you. First of all thank you for your lessons. They are great !. Reagarding this one, two things you said that don't fit with what I've learned on the subject. When you are in a MINOR pentatonic, in this case E minor, to find the relative MAJOR pentatonic, you must walk to your RIGHT and not to your LEFT. For example, if you are in A minor scale, and want to find the relative major (C Major), you must move 3 frets to the RIGHT. Another point is the shape of the MAJOR Pentatonic is a little different from the MINOR. You used both shapes (MAJOR and SMALL) exactly the same. I would be grateful if you could clarify these points.

    • @HenryAlexander321
      @HenryAlexander321 Месяц назад

      Hey Antonio, I know that you've adressed your question to Eddie but I thought I would offer my view on your questions in case it helps.
      Your first point is correct, but overly simplistic. You can also "walk to the left" (generally by 2 frets) and ascend to the next higher string to find the relative major root note from the minor root note.
      Your second point is an interesting one. There are basically two main ways you can pivot between parallel major and minor scales. The first way (which Eddie demonstrates in his video, and also happens to be my personal favourite way to achieve this), is to use a single scale pattern (the G-shaped pentatonic scale in this instance), and move it up or down the fretboard by 3 frets depending on which type of scale you're beginning with (major or minor). The second way is to stay in the same area of the fretboard, but to use a different scale pattern to play the second scale. An example of this would be using the G-shaped scale pattern when playing major licks, and the A-shaped scale pattern when playing minor licks. If you're playing in the key of E using this second method, your G-shaped scale pattern would have its major root note (played by the 4th finger on the 6th string) on the 12th fret, and your A-shaped scale pattern would have its minor root note (typically played by the 4th finger on the 6th string) on the 12th fret.
      Hope that helps!

    To any new players, THIS IS VALUABLE INFORMATION. Hes describing my AHA moment decades ago. In the first band I was ever in, I was filling in for the regular guy playing rhythm 12 bar stuff to a lead player in a blues band. (Its really all i knew at the time) Jeff, the lead player showed me this scale, just in a passing way, and I went home and sat for a week figuring it out by playing along to myself on a cheap cassette recorder. Figuring out different starting points and where octaves were etc, and expanding from there.
    This is a great video, described in such an easily understandable way, and will put so many new players on the right track.

    What helped make it click for me was comparing it to using only the black keys on a keyboard (which results in a pentatonic scale also). Same as there are spots on the keyboard where there's no black key, there are places on each string where you need to skip two frets instead of one.

    Mate I love these uploads. I've gotten more out of these tutorials than anywhere else. Keep up the solid work and I'm sure I speak for more than a few in saying thank you.

    Great pedagogy! You connect the dots for beginners where a lot of other teachers fail to.

    Thank you for this. I am a member of GMM. I have a suggestion of showing the fret playing video upside down. This matches what the player actually sees on their own instrument. I have done this myself because I cant reverse what I see other players show.

    This exact video is the reason I picked up a guitar again after 20 years off because I couldn’t do it :-)

    Listen, I play a 12-string acoustic. Starting anything on the 12'th fret doesn't work.
