Sophomore year of college, one of our D&D friends decided they weren't going to shower or do laundry for at least a month or more; I didn't keep track at that point. Those of us in the surrounding rooms gave him a choice: he could either take a shower right now or we were going to hog tie him, drag him down to the lake on campus, and throw him. He threw the typical childish tantrum going on how about how we couldn't do that to him, his rights were being impeded, and then pleaded his case to the hall RA (resident assistant, either a junior or senior at the time). RA looked at him and said those were his options. He took a shower later that day.

😂That's hilarious. Although I'm guilty of the same; I only showered about twice a month when I was depressed after I lost my job. I think depression is a common reason for someone's lack of hygiene but it could also just be that someone is inconsiderate of everyone else. And gross.

You can get a fungal infection on your scalp (and probably elsewhere) from not bathing. Plus it’s observable that it guys specifically that don’t shower often enough have thinner hair like the streamer in the video. Probably damages the hair follicles
showering isn't just for smells, it stops you from getting infections or diseases.
It's also good for your mental health
as a society, we havent had to worry about that part of the showers for a few hundred years.
If you just sit on the computer you're not picking up the kind of dirtiness to get infections and diseases which would probably require an open wound as well. As long as he was washing his hands and cleaning his mouth he would just smell bad. Still disgusting, but not the same as a construction worker not showering for a week

I'm a mental health nurse and worked in acute male wards... Knew a patient who only washed at most 3x a year, would refuse to do anymore... Unfortunately you could smell him a mile away, he looked severely unkempt and his room smelt terribly. Yet he would insist he had no odour on him nor his room.
If you 'can't smell' your body odour after 10 days of not washing, it's not because you've reached a "plateau", it's because you've gotten used to your own smell.
I hope this guy is OK in all honesty, it could be something to do with mental health or perhaps a sensory issue with water, maybe he has a neurodivergant condition that makes it difficult for him to want to wash.
There’s something definitely wrong in his mind to think that this behavior is “okay”. At least he realizes that it’s far from normal. It’s really a sad way of living. We as people need social interaction which I guess you could argue he gets online but he just said that he hasn’t been streaming either… it just makes me wonder what kind of life goals someone could possibly have for themselves living like he does.

This video made me get up and take a shower at midnight. I felt so unclean watching it. I feel bad for him because I can understand how this can happen to someone. I've become a shut in due to mental health issues and can see how this can happen. Aba is 100% right the state of your room and daily habits are a reflection of what's happening in your mind. Mine is a mess and it shows in my surroundings but I still try to bathe and eat everyday.

I used to be homeless in Montreal, would go months without a real shower or even rarer a bath.. But i was a junkie...Chasing the highs and no other care/bother in the world.. We would jump in fountains and wash in there. or good old ''Mexican shower'' in some public bathroom when we could..

Subjectively, taking care of your needs isn’t always easy. A strong will and self-discipline is required. How many of us go “oh I can skip doing this for one day/night, it won’t hurt me” be it with showing, brushing teeth, medication etc. It seems like Asmongold has neither a strong will nor any self-discipline. It really does give off the vibes that he’s depressed. He shouldn’t try to play it off, it doesn’t send a good message for those that are in a similar position as him. Take care of yourself people, the physical affects the mental and vice versa.

I guess, but even me. Im a lazy fucker and I put off self care sometimes. But even I have limits. And usually that laziness stems from a lack of routine, like when I was in between jobs and was kinda depressed stuck in the house. But Asmon seems extremely proud of his lack of self care. Its not just that he is neglecting himself, he views it as a matter of principle that he doesnt need to shower just because, in his mind, conventional wisdom dictates that he should. Thats mental illness.

As someone who during my freshman year of highschool lived in a situation where I often was UNABLE to take showers for up to a month at times I fail to understand why anyone would willingly do this to themselves. I felt horrible, I looked horrible, I smelled horrible. My friends didn't want to be around me. Girls would just ignore me. Add this onto being in 2 sports and you can imagine how bad it got. I just don't get it man.

Luckily there are different forms of depression and types of people. Cause when I was in my deepest darkest pit, I was taking long baths all the time. It was comforting...being dirty is something I could never stand. Maybe my form of depression did not include hating myself that much, that I didnt cared about my health and look. I hope Asmon does a 180 turn one day and really surprise us all.

Bacteria/fungi/virus/ect are opportunistic beings just doing their job decomposing or in the case of virus', updating our dna with some new code
Living in an environment with excess sterilization using antibiotics, antifungals, antimicrobials etc... only creates a host with a weaker immune system.
Some of the most deadly bacteria, are highly prevalent in sterile conditions, such as hospital operating rooms. Why? Because we kill off their competitors by sterilization. For surgery this is necessary because by cutting open the body, you're bypassing all of the immune system's defense mechanisms.......
But otherwise? When the skin is intact? A sterile environment is always worse on the immune system than one which is biodiverse because after all without certain microorganisms and even virus', humans would cease to exist. We need them for optimal health. You can't simply kill off the "bad" bacteria without killing the "good".

i used to shower like once a week (if that) when i was a teen then i moved out got my own place. i took a bath and could visibly see the dirt coming off my skin. was kinda shocking, i basically became addicted to getting dirty then getting clean.
it would bother me if i bathed and wasnt dirty enough. it got really bad, i would help volunteer for the dirtiest jobs at work just so i can go home and bathe. going into sewage tanks, carrying cement, working with fiberglass, rolling around in mud.... i was the IT guy.
i've been addicted to alot of weird things in the past but bathing off dirt has to be by far the weirdest.

After my husband died 6 years ago, I ended up living in a motel for 4 years. I was in a serious depression. I did shower but I lived in pure filth. My floors were covered in garbage. I had mold issues and wouldn't allow the motel entrance until one day the door broke off. I was humiliated, of course, for them witnessing it and knowing I allowed my state of mind to take me to this dark place. My reason for sharing is that Aba is correct about what he said (Paraphraseing) it is an expression of your overall existence. I'm glad I found my way. ❤

It’s not bad for your health to shower everyday. It’s just marginally better for your skin to be caked in oils rather than stripped of them. But if you moisturize then it’s fine. And if you exercise everyday, the BIGGEST factor on your health, then you should shower everyday, so then showering less would be unhealthy because that means you are exercising less

It's the reason why when you take a shit, initially it smells really bad, but if you're in there for awhile, you start not to smell it anymore. But if you were to leave the bathroom for awhile, then go back in it'd hit your nose really hard again. This is also why people have a hard time realizing they have bad BO. Because they're too used to their own bad BO that they can no longer smell it anymore.
And he thinks sweat alone is what makes you nasty. No regard for dead skin cells and oil from the skin.

Not sweating as much as another person is one thing, but your skin is still shedding and replacing dead cells daily.
For someone with adhd, it is a lot of mental work. Each step of taking a shower is another spoon and sometimes we run out of spoons. Someone with sensory disorder is going to dread the cold wet feeling after the shower.
I have forgotten showers like that, time management and distractions make things take longer to get to and this perfectionist trait makes it easier to not do something than risk doing something imperfectly.

Its easier for me to deal with other peoples messes. I stay cleaning the common areas. But my room is utter chaos. Its a problem thats completely fixable. Im just utilizing productive days. Exactly, when I am in a supermarket just as another customer, and I turn into an aisle where some stinky person has been in before me and their smell is lingering in the air....I get so angry and grossed out. People should be stinky at home on their own.

The only people I’ve ever met who went weeks or months without showering had *SEVERE* depression, like borderline nonfunctional.

I’ve gone a month without showering, dozens of times, because I go backpacking for 30+ days at a time. The entire ultralight community is in the woods for longer than 30 days and there ain’t no showers out there🤷♂️

I remember reading that back in the olden days when people were getting plagues and illnesses, some dude discovered that bathing would prevent them. He would teach people about this and they discovered that illnesses and plagues were actually prevented by staying clean. Even in my country if you don't pay your bills, they'll turn everything off EXCEPT the water, not only because it's a basic right but also to prevent disease by allowing people to shower.

There's definitely some truth to it. A lot of people that are truly depressed can't get up out of bed and leaving the house is difficult for a depressed person, so him actually getting up and out to the convenience store says a lot. I'm not exactly depressed, but I'm not in the best of places right now in my life and I don't feel like leaving my house half the time unless it's for work. Going to the gym, to the track to run, stuff like that, I used to be on top of it when I was happier, so there's some traction in what he says.

I can respect the independance, confidence, and honesty. Cleanliness is both a self-care practice and a maintenence routine. You can prevent a lot of skin conditions by showering or bathing by removing the buildup of dead skin. This is especially the case for more sedintary people who aren't shedding skin through activity like some. It is also an oportunity to do healthcare like checking for lumps or discoloration. While the soaps and shampoo debate can wage somewhere else on the internet, the habit of bathing regularly is important for most both physically and mentally.

I had a classmate who did the same thing, I don’t quite remember for how long, but HOLY DAMN, whenever bro entered a close space everyone in there could feel it. When he took off his shoe in the locker, people would literally gag it was so bad. And someone risking passing out being near him wasn’t even the worst part, it’s the shit that it does to your skin. So mate has long hair, and it hanged on the back of his neck/upper back, and holy shit that area looks like it was carpet bombed by pimples. And that didn’t go away after he started showering again, it still looks goddamn rancid. Tl;dr If you interact with people irl, don’t negate your hygiene.
I had a similar experience during a summer school semester. We had assigned seats and I had the unfortunate seat next to a kid who smelled like spoiled fish and dog shit. I can see dandruff all over his shirt, flakes of dead skin over his oily scalp and chin, even his pimples had dead skin. I had to ditch class a few times because the smell was so awful it gave me diarrhea. Makes me want to kick Asmondgold's dumb ass as much as I wanted to kick the guy I was assigned to sit next to. 😅

That has nothing to do with not taking a shower. It's bad dietary issues. If your over weight and unhealthy you will smell bad. If your skinny and healthy you smell good, shower or no shower is irrelevant. Ive smelled much worse after a shower trust me lol. Showers will make you sick all the time. Overrated.

Right?! I was trying to figure how his hygiene was detrimental to society. I don't think people realize how wealthy he really is. He's got two successful steaming channels with one of them monetize, youtube channels that combine get over 2 billion views a month, part owner of OTK, part owner of Starforge and now a publishing studio. On top of that, he doesn't spend any money what so ever I've been watching him since the very beginning. I started as a hate watcher but "baldy" grows on you. Dude is down to earth, relatable and highly intelligent. I find it hilarious all these "perfect" people with their "holier than thou" attitudes projecting their beliefs onto him. Love him or hate him, he's living his life on his own terms and that's what anyone would want in life.

It's not healthy, the smell is from the bacteria and fungus consuming your bodily discharges. Your immune system is under constant stress. Oral health in particular is Paramount.
You're literally removing years off your life. Causing permanent damage to your skin and teeth. Even after you do shower/clean, the effects are extremely noticeable, like you have a permanent rash.
I was in Iraq for 7 months back in 2003. The lack of access to water was probably the worst part. Baby powder and baby wipes became my best friends. The IED's were a secondary concern....
Gonna imagine a sedentary US lifestyle is a lot different than being in the hot Iraqi Sun all day carrying 200 lbs on your back walking up mountains. Thanks for the service.

baby powder was not safe last I heard,maybe vaseline or something else that makes your skin temporarily waterproof or create a barrier on the skin,can't imagine why you need baby powder if you already have no access to water,on the other hand if you are constantly sweaty and damp you might be inclined to reach for that,still a bad choice...plus it will clump up in areas where the skin is broken,it will not help fix it and will make recovery slower and possibly cause more cracking and bleeding and is not at all recommended for use on damaged skin...like we don't even use that stuff on babies here in my country since the 90s...to call it baby powder is wrong when it can be the worst for them....I have psoriasis and would not let that be applied to another person in the same room let alone my vicinity ....

As a mother this is a prime example of why I want to do a good job preparing my children for life…so they don’t do stupid sh!t like not taking a shower for attention.

I'm mostly content with the way a live life. There's not much I really want, but showering and brushing your teeth, at least twice a day, is a must. I have a Job and have hobbies I really enjoy. I don't have too much responsibilities, but those I have, I make sure to fulfill them. I also like doing things when I want and how I want. I don't think I could compromise that, and that's why I had to accept that It wouldn't be wise to enter into a relationship. I respect the way he wants to live his life even if it's not how most people do things. What's important is to be honest with yourself about why you're doing it.
