Because if you drink and drive, you put other people's lives at risk, not just your own.
Because they know what they're doing in order to keep safe, but if you drink you are impaired, your judgment can be off and what you know how to do safely you might not do safely.
And because there are usually laws that prohibit you from drinking and driving, which can get you in trouble even if you aren't causing accidents, while there is no law prohibiting them from what they are doing.
I hope I clarified a few ways in which this is different from drinking and driving with your kid in the car.

Randomly one day, RUclips offered me your channel, and I've been having one giant panic attack ever since. I keep watching to desensitize myself to the terror. Eventually I may be able to enter a large cave, something I had never considered doing before. I will never be comfortable (or thin) enough to join you on your experiences, but I'm interested in dipping my toes in. Thank you for sharing. P.S. - I had to pause and do deep breathing exercises several times to get through this video.

Not all caves are this tight... these guys are legends for squeezing into the holes that they do... but some caves you can walk in and they're not as claustrophobic, but are still full of amazing underground features. Well worth a visit and you might even be surprised what you're willing to do when you're there...
There's walk near me with two caves, one called Ilam's rock and the other I think is nameless.
Ilam's rock has a large entrance that you only have to duck down into and is filled with a huge limestone waterfall (there's got to be a RUclips video).
The other has a short crawl of about 1 meter or less before opening up into a cavern, big enough to fit about 4 people standing, with a ceiling of about 3-4 meters and a ledge above the entrance. they're both great little beginner caves and doesn't take too much courage to make it inside and have a look around... but the exit is never more than a couple of meters away.
If you're interested I highly recommend having a look in your local area... its a lot of fun :)
Edit: I actually can't find a good video of Ilam's rock... ill have to make one soon

every time I see a video like this, I try and think about what the pioneers of caving felt going into holes like these with just oil lamps or candles, and no modern safety gear

    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes  Год назад +2

Well for one thing it was a lot darker. And you didn't get to see all the beautiful colors of caves unless you were a proficient photographer.
But this era of caving is the true pioneering era. Previously they just went as far as they could go. We can go much farther now with much better gear for not only lighting but mapping. As well as cave locating through GPS.
So it's easier now but caver's just push harder.

It takes strength and confidence in yourself and your abilities that demonstrate to your son how good people can be to each other. I wish more fathers and even mothers, could spend such quality of time with family. We've lost that over the years, so thank you.😊

I am marveling at how you and Jacob have avoided a Nutty Putty cave situation where everything went wrong , it must take incredible expertise and skill in all those tight squeezes especially when you are fighting gravity too . This is way beyond the average persons capability and mentality .

    • @CalvinHikes

Well as you said everything went wrong. It takes a lot for everything to go wrong. And in my opinion that's what happened in the John Jones situation. It's a one off and I bet you never hear anything like that ever again.

Only recently came across caving as a concept and I've since become addicted to watching these videos - they're exhilarating!
I sit in my bed at night with high levels of adrenaline and cortisol from the claustrophobic effect these videos cause.
I find the thought of caving terrifying, but part of me almost craves the experience. I crave to feel alive and these terrifying experiences seem to hold promise in satisfying that need.
I however don't think that I'll ever cave, partly because I feel I'm too large to do so, but also because the thought of getting stuck is petrifying. Excuse the pun...
Anyway, I'm just here to wish you guys safety and I pray that God protects you in all of your expeditions.
