Hope that someday you can at least get better about this fear, even if you never overcome it entirely. Arachnophobia is bad for both the arachnids and the people who fear them. Phobias are underratedly harmful to people. They are, after all, an anxiety disorder. It's not just being 'a little scared.' It really is a mental disorder like any other.
@@catpoke9557 (The panic attack bad got reached only once. Maybe not the level of what ppl with anxiety disorder experience but holy it was bad: enclosed with a fast moving and beefy one in the bathroom...) Yep I know, and can somewhat manage daddy long legs. Thanks anyway since it is all in good faith !, Like I could watch this and be fine but yikes. Idk how to word it better x) Dumb anecdote time : While strolling at a park with a friend, noticed she had a tiny spider in her hair (maybe a quarter of a pinky nail). Needed like a minute just to gather the courage to remove it. Then another minute to stop shaking. While joking and 100% aware about it. (Most definitely a coping mechanism attempt) It's like a reflex thing where im hardwired that "see 8 legs thing = FIGHT OR FLIGHT". And not specifically spiders : managed to jumpscare and almost drop my phone seeing a cat sitting on a weird chair/couch thing where it really looked like a spider face to face view. It isn't even based on a "they are dangerous" assumption but really that as soon as my mind recognizes the shape, it goes into fight/flight/panic mode.
I've watched a handful of videos about caving, and the descriptions of crawling through a space where you're forced to belly crawl have always terrified me. really just twists my stomach. normally enclosed spaces aren't a big problem for me, hell sitting in a closet is actively comforting. but it's when I can feel something pressed around my body that I just lose it. always reminds me of that time as a kid I was trying to make a snow fort, but upon realizing I'd made a tunnel I didn't fully fit through it felt like I had a damn heart attack rambling aside, one of the things about caving that's always stuck with me is the idea of "why is this just big enough for me to fit through? why wouldn't it just be too small?" and this video really put that feeling into perspective for me. caves like this were never made with humans in mind, but not only is it just big enough to get into - there's even this convenient little "room" that's just big enough to manage to turn around. just wild to see
Imagine you hear pouring sounds and realized it's raining. Andrenaline pumping into my veins would drive me nuts if I'm in that situation heck I can't even stand being stuck inside a closet.
Jacob is absolutely adorable and lovable. I can't imagine a more uplifting boost to morale in such a situation, than the voice of an upbeat and confident kid near your side. That might sound weird, but considering all of the factors, the tight space, the encompassing panic, ect, that really would be the one thing I'd want by my side..
I wonder if that's why I enjoy his caving company? There is a very harsh environment with the cave but the innocent reality of a young person may counter balance it. I understand what you're saying and I appreciate the perspective, if only because it isn't like EVERY other comment.
It could also be that you are distracted from your panic because you feel the need to look after someone else. Especially with an an upbeat kid, their calmer and optimistic energy rubs off on you too and can give you the strength to not panic and protect/look after them instead!
I love your channel, I am super claustrophobic in my old age but I can't get enough of your incredible channel. You and Jacob are awesome dudes and whatta a team you make!! Keep up the good work and stay safe! Greetings from Australia....🇦🇺
Just stumbled upon your channel, here in Namibia. At first, the fear gripped me but there's something about being in places that a fraction of a fraction of the world's population will ever set foot on, that's quite relaxing^
Tighter roof. If you can lay flat, you can pretty much get through anything. But if it's tight on the sides... you're going to have a bad time. When you turn your body sideways you just lose almost all leverage. *Good question... and we have a video coming up in the next couple months where the tightness is sideways.
going down headfirst must be terrifying, mad respect for jacob (and you! being the biggest one in the cave is definitely scary too) also loved 'my shirt is no longer with us' lol

Jacob-There’s no reason to panic, the worst thing that could happen is that you get stuck and you can get unstuck the same way you got stuck. Well if I got stuck in that cave I would make a brand new exit! Way to go Jacob love y’all’s videos, the best caving RUclips channel by far!!!!

Dumb anecdote time : While strolling at a park with a friend, noticed she had a tiny spider in her hair (maybe a quarter of a pinky nail).
Needed like a minute just to gather the courage to remove it. Then another minute to stop shaking.
While joking and 100% aware about it.

@@CalvinHikes makes sense
I've watched a handful of videos about caving, and the descriptions of crawling through a space where you're forced to belly crawl have always terrified me. really just twists my stomach. normally enclosed spaces aren't a big problem for me, hell sitting in a closet is actively comforting. but it's when I can feel something pressed around my body that I just lose it. always reminds me of that time as a kid I was trying to make a snow fort, but upon realizing I'd made a tunnel I didn't fully fit through it felt like I had a damn heart attack
rambling aside, one of the things about caving that's always stuck with me is the idea of "why is this just big enough for me to fit through? why wouldn't it just be too small?"
and this video really put that feeling into perspective for me. caves like this were never made with humans in mind, but not only is it just big enough to get into - there's even this convenient little "room" that's just big enough to manage to turn around. just wild to see
Imagine you hear pouring sounds and realized it's raining. Andrenaline pumping into my veins would drive me nuts if I'm in that situation heck I can't even stand being stuck inside a closet.
