They did midge so wrong in the movie 😂. I remember happy family midge as a kid even tho I didn't have her. I actually think she was one of the cutest faces of midge they ever had along with the barbie life in the dreamhouse midge. I think many doll collectors have a soft spot for red headed dolls and therefore midge. The treatment of midge in the barbie movie almost feels ginger-phobic tbh lmao

It's a shame that Midge's first marriage to Allen didnt work out, but im so glad she found her second husband, Alan.
Midge was a terrific idea with terrible execution. I think her wandering eye problem is called being "wall-eyed" as opposed to "cross-eyed," but yes, almost all of the '60s Midges suffer from this affliction to some extent. I've seen Midge repainted with brown eyes and she looks much better.
I do love me some '80s Midge, though. First, the Steffie sculpt rocks, as everybody knows. And the diva sculpt, while not quite as good, is a huge improvement over the '60s version. I thrift '80s and '90s Midges whenever I find them and now have quite a few, including Happy Family (sadly missing tummy and baby), Cool Looks, and most recently, Earring Magic.

My sister and I each got an original Midge for Christmas in 1963. One had blonde hair and the other had Titian hair. I remember being not all that thrilled with Midge, tbh. At that point I also had a 1961 blonde ponytailed Barbie and a 1962 Titian bubble cut Barbie and I thought Midge was kind of goofy looking. I know, I know. But it didn’t really matter because the Beatles came along a couple of months later and that was all she wrote LOL. P.S. Love your channel, you have the most amazing vintage collection I’ve ever seen!!!

When Midge was introduced in the movie, I turned to the girls next to me and said that is not correct, she was Barbie's first friend, and she has come back more than once and not discontinued. I fell out of touch with the Barbie world in the late 80s through most of the 90s as the girls I babysat for were older and stopped playing. I was sad when she went away with The Mod era, but as a boy I couldn't own Barbies (until I was older!) Thank you for bringing some correct information about Barbie's first best friend!
Midge is definitely my favourite Barbie friend! Vintage Midge sometimes reminds me of Doris Day, especially the bend leg and wig wardrobe ones. But Midge is always cute to me! Never had one growing up (I had Barbie's other 90s friends but never Midge) but I've made up for it now haha thanks for another fun video :)

Oh Midge 💕😅 I had a pregnant Midge when I was little. When I was older I would mention that my favourite barbie was pregnant Barbie and people had no idea what I was talking about so I chalked it up as a fever dream….I was so excited when I watched the movie and realised she was real! 🤣🤣🤣

Midge and Teresa are my favorite Barbie's friends. The first versions are pretty cute!
Midge has had quite a tumultuous time of it. I mean, the name alone...Midge?? Given the responsibility of being Barbie's first friend (think of the pressure she was under - but her boyfriend WAS cuter than Barbie's!), mostly dismissed as ugly, only to be unceremoniously dumped in a few years. Then she's haphazardly brought back decades later in a few inconsistent reincarnations...and THEN suffers probably the worst backlash anyone in Barbieworld ever had to endure....the public pretty much wanted to burn her at the stake for being pregnant and unwed. Oh, and when Barbiedom finally gets the royal treatment with a blockbuster movie, Midge is nothing but a brief punchline.
I personally love Midge, especially the vintage version. She's got to be the most neurotic character in the Barbie universe considering all she's been through, and I'm totally there for her.

Wow well done ....* I found out many facts I wasn't aware of about later Midge . Which the collector in me is now on the look out for some of the later Midges. I was already collecting when the Midge wedding gift set came out , but was way to involved in completing my early Midges then . The later Midges are so cute & some of the prettiest ones as depicted in your segment ! Thnx again for creating the best content out there on Barbie collecting ! Cheers Matt Sky

I have a bunch of Midges in my collection, I love her, she is one of my best favorite Barbie friends ever! It's a Shame that Mattel does not produces Dolls with actual name written on the box, it would make such a big difference! Doll's with freakles and red hair with the "MIDGE" name written on the packaging would be more likable for kids and collectors!
I have the Happy Family MIdge with her baby ( I love the idea of pregnant dolls, I have few clones and I really like them)
I also have a quite rare MIdge, she was sold head only in 60's and her name is "Midge Wig Wardrobe" with Molded hair and a set of 3 wigs like the Fashion Queen Barbie from 1963.
I've always been a Midge fan and associated her with most red haired Barbies, for example Diva from Barbie and the Rockers. I know this is not the case, but it's my head cannon. It's interesting that Steffi Love has TONS of pregnant dolls including a pregnant Mermaid, but I guess times have changed.

I have a good size collection of vintage Midge,I love her, she's a goofball with her googly eyes, in my mind she was quite the comedienne and kept Barbie in stitches, I have the #1 Midge with teeth and the shorter hair with super googly eyes ( my favorite) and numerous others, she makes me smile

I think it’s funny that people are still talking about how strange pregnant Midge was and in the meantime Steffi Love has a pregnant mermaid doll and countless other pregnant variations (twins etc).. People Re so quick to place moral responsibility on Barbie and co but the knockoffs get no flack… and a pregnant mermaid is legit bizarre
I have a Midge I made from the Midge wig head on a Midge/Barbie body & I LOVE getting her different wigs. I have the Fashion Queen wigs for her, but I love some of the modern Monique brand wigs on her even more. I have one on her right now that makes her favor Mary Anne from Gilligan's Island. I find the pregnant Midge fascinating and am sure I'll add her to my collection someday. I can see how she was a fun punch line for the movie and was glad they acknowledged at least one Barbie friend.

I don't recall there being a wedding set with Midge and Allan dolls in the 1960s. There was a four-doll set featuring Barbie, Ken, Midge and Skipper, but Midge was wearing "Orange Blossom" in that set, not "Bride's Dream". I don't remember ever seeing a set with Midge as a bride or a vintage set that included Allan and Midge together, for that matter. At least not until the 1990 set with Midge, Alan, Barbie, Ken, Kelly and Todd. I still have that gift set from 1990 unopened, but I have all the adult dolls out of the box as well.
Also, you didn't mention the Wig Wardrobe Midge, who came with three wigs.
My favorite Midge dolls are the titian flips. That's just the quintessential Midge. Because I'm Gen X, my first Midge was 1987 California Dream Midge, but I have since collected all several vintage Midge dolls. She'll never outshine Barbie, I will always be partial to Swirls and American Girls especially, but I do appreciate a tidy, smartly dressed Midge.
I have life in the dream house Midge and I've paired her with a set of the quints baby dolls, red haired of course.

Im not a huge fan of Midge, but I found that I own a few out of recent doll lots. She is definitely cuter in the 80s/90s. But I just got my first derpy Midge and Im not going to lie, Im living for it

I love midge, mainly because her face reminds me of me, like everyone is glamourous and here I am standing in the corner with an uncomfortable looking face. I love her, she's so underappreciated. I just ordered a midge for about 30 something she's out of the box but she's vintage and I am so happy can't wait until she gets here my only vintage looking dolls are repros the next month I am going to buy dramatic new living barbie and a few more months francie then I am gonna work on the males. it sucks though i can't get pregnant midge at a reasonable price because I had that doll as a kid. i can't wait to dress her up!
Minor correction: the condition is called "Wall-eyed", where both eyes focus AWAY from the nose, like the walleye fish. Poor girl had the too-short Mamie Eisenhower bangs until her "Americn Girl" incarnation. Looked OK with Barbie's curls, but not straight.
I always considered Diva from Barbie and the rockers midge undercover. Like diva was her stage name lol.

I literally just learned like a month ago why they changed the spelling of his name. And it was cuz Barbra Handler was originally married to an Allan(spelled the way the first one was spelled) and when they divorced they didn’t want to continue to use the original spelling so the just changed it so “he’s different” hahahaha but yes it’s was cuz of the real life divorce of Barbra and Allan
Allan was actually the name of her son-in-law.
I personally think midge has one of the most beautiful faces. I love Barbie to my core but midge was spectacular! My favourite edition of midge is the Jewel hair mermaid. She is my number 1 favourite for sure 😍 but yeah I do personally think the movie left out a lot of important info

1. I loveeeee Midge in every era and I’m planning of buying one anytime soon because look at her, she’s gorgeous 🥰
2. I believe that ppl overreacted with the pregnant doll. I mean, as boy I didn’t grew up with dolls but every time I got the chance I’d stuff clothes to my Jessie from Toy Story and pretend she was pregnant lol. It was fun and I would’ve loved a pregnant Midge as a child!!

Midge is my favorite, and I look at her more as THE Barbie redhead than anything else. The Titian hair moniker is a unique and awesome one.

I love, love, love Midge! She is so cute, especially the original versions! And I love, love, love Allen too! My Nana received an early Midge and Allen for Christmas in the 60s, and now those dolls are mine. Midge and Allen are my favorite ship in Barbieland! Honestly I wish they would have portrayed Midge better in the Barbie movie but I was just happy to see her and Allan in the movie at all. Think if they made a sequel called Midge! (probably not going to happen but we can always dream) Or the could do Allen!

Midge has been my fav friend i remember my Sister she had the happy family and she never wanted the ryan and allan set she says midge was independent and i think they do wrong with midge they could do midge the same way that they did in life in the dreamhouse and be more the friend of barbie instead of the pregunta doll only

I have a vintage blonde Midge - near mint in original box and a vintage blonde Skooter ‘with lifelike bendable legs’ nm in original box and like to think of them as sisters - both so cute!
Also have two pregnant Midges - one I switched heads with Barbie so Midge and Barbie could be best ‘pregnant’ friends - they’ve crashed a couple of my friends Baby Showers and given birth there with the help of handsome Dr (obgyn) Shavin’ Ken.
Lastly, I have a Life in the Dreamhouse Midge redressed in a Colour Magic mod ensemble that really suits her!

You know I have not seen the Barbie movie. The previews kind of depicted Barbie and Ken as silly and goofy. Maybe that was the image of them for the last 30 yrs, but my Barbie and Ken are fashion icons and smart and smooth with those early outfits. I, of course like the original Midge. Who cares if she is a little cross eyed. lol
