Way back in the late 60’s before I was “old enough” to have a real Barbie my mother bought me a knock off plastic Barbie at our local Acme grocery store. After I was a mature 7 years old and deemed responsible enough to be gifted a real Barbie (brunette Twist and Turn 😁) I relegated my Acme doll to be Barbie’s mother because they had similar eyes 😂. Fortunately my real Barbie could sit in a much more ladylike position unlike her plastic “mom” 😅

I think the baby doll/dolls with babies thing was less about training girls to be moms, and more about a time when a girl wanted to be like their mom. Kids want to be grown up, they look at the grown ups in their life and want to imitate them. The idea that a woman's primary role is to be a parent and housekeeper persists to this day. I think the attraction of pregnant dolls for kids is the mystery around where babies come from for them. It's like magic for them - how does mom's swelling belly = I get a new sibling? I think the only pregnant doll I had was one of those anatomy dolls. Whenever sis and I played dolls, we always made the men pregnant, kept them dressed like cave men, and beat them when supper wasn't ready lol.

Germany, right? They are progressive and not afraid of pregnant mermaid! 😂 I find those dolls factinating, and I am glad they are there. I think there is this phase in many girls lives when they start to be curious about the pregnancy, giving birth and such. I think that adults sometimes don't understand that for kids it doesn't do anything with sex, but more like this what is body capable of... Anyway I am glad those dolls are around so kids can explore this phase or whatever they like. I was 11 years old in 2002, so I was more into fashion dolls and Happy family didn't get my attention back then, but again, it is cool idea and I like there are also more mature looking dolls represented in the family. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

You forgot Miss Suzette by Uneeda Doll Company and her successor Wendy. They are very collectible today, actually pretty and well made dolls for the times. Both were straight legged and non posing bodies like early Barbie. I believe Miss Suzette came out in 1962.

This was hilarious! I love mermaid dolls, so now I'm going to have to try and get the pregnant mermaid doll! Did you know that Takara/Tomy brought out a pregnant Licca-Chan doll for the Japanese market? She's supposed to be Licca grown-up in the future. The doll came with the pregnant belly attached to her by a locking mechanism, and you had to send off separately for the key to unlock it, and the baby!

Beautiful brides. I did not know that all of these existed. Thank you for sharing. I think there are a few more that came much later than she missed. But regardless, these are great. And you totally should have a wedding Barbie shelf. That would be so awesome!👍

I was wanted to get her. But as an adult I have one and I also have a reproduction. The Peach and white dress was a nice change. instead of the pink many other Barbies dresses. Even though I love pink, peach was a nice change.

Not the mermaid having a worm inside her belly 😭😂 I actually had a pregnant Steffi Love in the mid 2000s as a kid! They looked EXACTLY like this 15-20 years ago as well with that same facesculpt, hair & the thin brows with frosted eyeshadow. It’s really odd that they never changed Steffi Love’s appearance ever again since the early 2000s again!

I would have loved a pregnant doll. I was just always interested in human anatomy. I doubt my parents would have given me one though. They hated “real” questions.

I found a pregnant, porcelain doll, M and antique store ones which are Beasley didn’t have the removing mechanism so she’s pregnant all the time. I obviously bought it because it was the most random thing I’ve ever seen. sorry for any typos I am blind so I speak into my phone and it doesn’t always get what I say correct

The merbaby set was everything. I do have a few Steffi's including a pregnant one but not a pregnant Merperson!

I had a pregnant Susy doll back in the early 90s. Her pregnancy gimmick was another one than the ones used by Judith, Steffi and Midge. Her belly flips around in a way that both the round and the flat belly can be on the inside, both with and without the baby inside (so the flat belly works as a lid for the round belly). I now have several pregnant dolls, including older Steffi Loves that are more square and have a larger baby that looks like something between Judith's baby and Midge's baby. And recently I got a pregnant Anlily doll. Her body is just like newer Steffi Love, while her baby is in one piece (no articulation) and is sleeping.

I literally laughed when you said we'll assume he's the father, who know's. Damn, I didn't know Steffi Love was like that. LMAO!

When it comes to Barbie, you guys really know how to do it!!!! You are a fountain of important information and you make it really FUN!!! Loved this video on the very cute and adorable Francie doll, infact all your Barbie videos are FANTASTIC!!! Cole is correct on the history of Twiggy that definitely influenced both the Francie doll and the Casey friend. BUT please note I believe the Francie doll was also inspired by Sally Field playing the quirky 15 year old teen scene maker at the time GIDGET ( 1965--66). Her character's ( Gidget) real name was Francie Lawrence and she definitely was a hip kiddie!!! Please continue to make Mod ( Barbie) doll videos because you guys ROCK!!! My nextdoor neighbour had Judith, it's was definitely fun to mess around with. I've been obsessed with that stupid mermaid family since I first saw it, it's so hard to not buy the thing.

My mother said Oh no you're not going to play with those.. sad that I had teenage friends that wanted to slob on the knob like corn on the cob. And I was like hey anybody want to play Barbies. 😅😂😅😅😅😅😂 No?! 😔 My mom said to me. No way I'm getting you that doll.. you're a working girl.. she bought me some business Barbie.. Let me tell you a little psychology. If my mother would have thrown more of those things at me. And treated career woman as know you don't want that. A child will always yearn for exactly what you speak against. Be careful what you speak against. Mind that this reverse psychology. Can actually help your child. Especially if directing them in certain means.. hey lighting a path is not illegal. And later in life I explained to my mother. She was the businesswoman. And I was the mother. I wore the apron.. I literally did.. but because she was such a busy woman and a functioning addict.. she never had the time to see that everything she did. Made me want to become the exact complete opposite. So she was ruthless. She could make money so quick. I'm telling you within a few days my mother could go from zero to $5,000. Shocking how she did that I don't want to know. Yeah it was probably bad. But literally. If you don't want your kid going down a certain road. Do not say, no you can't have that. No you don't want that. You will make it exactly what they thrive and Will survive for. Children will see all your wrongs. Your prejudgment. Of what your child should be. Be very careful with that.. give them an open range. Never direct towards one against the other. My mother did a great job. I love my life.. her shittiness was my triumph.. every detail I couldn't stand I thrived to be completely the opposite of her. She was a burn the bra type. And give me that apron. I didn't have my first child until I was 27. After I had a shotgun wedding. That's one hell of a story. Last year at my 20th. My husband says why do you always say that. I said Lord have mercy with all the technology we have today. You never bothered to look that up. He came back 5 minutes later oh my gosh I'm so sorry. 😅😅😅😅😅😅 I said that's okay. Hand me my apron. 🎉😂🎉
