I'd love to see a 'how cheap you could make a cake?' challenge, like go to a supermarket, get all the ingredients and create a wedding cake with like $20 or something
@@kaitlew906 exactly! And for all the things she bought, she could probably go to a supermarket and get the ingredients for everything a lot cheaper. I mean I'm from the UK so I don't fully know how it works in the USA but I could get things for a cake with that budget
The only way you could make a wedding cake for $20 would be if you didn’t have to buy any tools, or supplies and you made a small cake comparable to a simple birthday cake. However I did once make a wedding cake for someone for about $25 (usd), but that didn’t include the cake stand, or the fresh cut flowers, and it was about 10 years ago. It was very small and simple, but it was beautiful. It was exactly what the bride requested. It was a 6in, single tier cake with off white buttercream, and fresh cut flowers, on a pedestal. Then I also made them 200 cupcakes. So their order was still around $600.
With chocolate cake using soda, I think Dr. Pepper or Cherry Coke works much better flavor-wise. Also, our dollar stores have eggs and margarine, and we even have cake-decorating supplies like coloring and piping bags. I think it depends on the store.
Canadian dollar stores don't supply eggs or frozen dinners like the ones in the US. The only thing you can find in the fridge are pops and bottled juice.
Same. But I think we have the 99 cents and More chain here in the US, and those are the ones with refrigerated ingredients. The Dollar Tree/Dollarama chain does not, and it looks like that's where she went. On the bright side, it definitely made for more of a challenge.
Pro-tip: If you want to make a homemade pizza and put pineapple on top, strain the juice from the canned pineapple then put it on a lined baking tray and bake it at 375F for 20 or so minutes until the edges start to darken. It keeps the pizza from going soggy, and the caramelization of the natural sugars gives you a deeper flavor profile.

It sounds like a US thing to have eggs and milk cheap enough for the dollar store, if I'm honest. I've never seen those things in any of the dollar store brands in Canada.
@@ArtistLunataliaeah I live in Georgia and they have lots of different stuff in the fridge and freezers in the back at the dollar trees and dollar general
I know that was painful for you, Laurie. But it sure was entertaining and impressive how it turned out. Now we know if you're on a tight budget, the dollar stores got you. Most of our stores have eggs and dairy. ❤
Cooking the pineapple first, almost caramelized, is a great to make canned pineapple less watery. You do lose some texture, but the flavor is amazing! I would have tried freezing the layers of the white cake... but you were already doing the best you could with what you had.
My Dollar Tree has cake scrapers, icing tips, and other party cake tools. We also have eggs. I'd love to see videos of Laurie showing budget cake baking like this. 2:44 Like 15 years ago or something I got a cookbook where the devil cake recipe had a tiny bit Coca Cola in it, and it actually turned out good! It wasn’t enough to flavor the cake, and it worked great. It made the cake a bit more airy and soft, kinda. The amount was small enough to not affect the flavor, so I guess that might be the difference too, looked like you put a lot more in than the recipe I used had. My mom also decorates all her cakes with flower in the summer, but she only uses edible flowers though, since a lot of flowers are actually edible. Sooo entertaining, you are such a great sport. I loved the whole video! You are not afraid to have a fail, but it wasn’t a fail. You did great!
This was hilarious. Everything from the facial expressions to the commentary was perfect.
Wow! That cake turned out pretty good. Definitely looks better than mine lol. The flowers really make it pop. I never doubted you! ❤
I've dabbled with baking and THE AMOUNT OF ANXIETY THIS VIDEO GAVE ME lmao I would've cried😭!! But you pulled it together!! 💞
I LOVE the "pop" hack, only I use plain seltzer/carbonated water with boxed mixes so as not to add more sugar! Give it a try!
This was so funny to watch. "The sugar is getting to
me"😂 It got progressively sillier and sillier! Thanks for the laughs!❤
This was to fun to watch, what a challenge indeed! Yes, yes do it again!
Love love love your videos! Had me laughing throughout! Love your personalities and creativity! You should remake this cake using your recipes and show the difference
Given the materials, this is a masterpiece!
You did a great job I enjoyed watching
Wow, the cake in the front looks so good considering everything you had to deal with! Good Job! Also, you and Kevin are so cute together! 🥰🥰You are full of happiness and joy that make a massive difference in people's lives today! Never stop being the two of you!😘
